We had dinner and breakfast at Jessica’s (their restaurant). Delicious and convenient. Location is great for dropping our daughter off at Middlebury College. It was cold and the parking lot is a bit removed from the main house. You have to cross a small street. Not a huge problem unless anybody is mobility challenged.

- Barbara (5/5): Would have been nice if I could have had a different room. - The staff was nice, the breakfast was good. The gate house lodging is right on a busy road. I was up from 4:00a.m to 6:30 a.m. counting cars and trucks passing every minute to minute and a half. Tried windows everything, windows shut, three pillows on my head, etc. REally made me foggy in the morning.

It had everything a luxury hotel should have. And the snacks in the breakfast were just wonderful. We loved the location you could walk to downtown to dinner. Well, because it was historic, you are carrying your luggage up a flight of stairs

- Jennifer (6/5): Clean, comfortable and not at all romantic. - The listing on Hotels.com stated that our room would have a jetted tub and fireplace. It did have a fireplace however, it was not available for our stay despite the fact that we had a frost. The bathroom was so small that when sitting on the toilet, your knees were right up against the shower glass. I thought I was paying over $400 a night for luxury, we were very disappointed. We stayed in the Steward room and there were several signed photos of celebrities with that last name including Martha Stewart with Snoop Dog and one of the Star Trek characters. Not all at romantic and definitely not even close to being worth the price.

- Nancy S (6/5): Mixed messages - There were two small piles of beard clippings on the floor of the bedroom. There was a long cobweb hanging from the bathroom ceiling. The “cold” water faucet in the bathroom ran HOT unless you let the water run at least 3-5 minutes. Sometimes it was so hot you couldn’t hold your hand under the water! On the other hand, everyone was very friendly and the breakfast was excellent.

- Jean (8/5): Lovely setting - We loved so many aspects of this hotel: breakfast at Jessica’s, historical architecture of the buildings, helpfulness of the staff, etc. We stayed in a room with no comfortable chair, just a couple padded footstools. We almost needed a ladder to climb into the bed. The mattress was very firm. One day the towels weren’t picked up nor the room refreshed though we asked for this service. They did rectify this later in the day. Our room was on the second floor which was difficult for 2 older people without an elevator and hauling luggage up and down stairs. The gardens on the grounds are lovely.

- pattie (8/5): - I was not informed that we would be staying “off campus “, if you will. Would have appreciated knowing that. Walls very thin in our room and bath tiny. But—a very hefty price for cramped quarters and worn and shabby furnishings.
- J (10/5): wonderful stay, Khaim at the front desk was exceptional, breakfast exceptional. - excellent breakfast and staff, Basir and Stephanie did an outstanding job. The quaint appeal and overall decor is fantastic. The location, it is an easy walk to Main Street. Jessica's for breakfast was the shining light, great staff- OUTSTANDING, as well as Khiam the front desk young man. Very appreciative of them extending our check out time by an hour. very small issues- the carpet in room 33, ought to be replaced or cleaned,it was a bit off putting with some stains and overall worn appearance , slight sewer smell from the shower. Just more detail cleaning especially behind the bed etc.

- Leslie (10/5): - Although an historic property the Inn has been updated and we enjoyed a clean, well appointed room right down to a sound machine to ensure audial comfort and improve sleep! Freshly baked cookies and caramel apples greeted us in the foyer and a detailed and spotless coffee and tea bar was just outside the guest rooms. The custom breakfast served in the main inn was excellent. Warm scones, rich coffee, French toast with Vermont maple syrup and perfect eggs with sautéed baby spinach in front of a fire listening to Miss Simone and other classic jazz vocalists…..simply heaven Cannot wait for another opportunity to return.

- William (8/5): Friendly and helpful staff - Overall an enjoyable stay in this quaint country Inn. Some mould in the shower stall, and shower temperature inconsistent. Occasionally breakfast not always made correctly to order but service polite and attentive. Room above bar was noisy till 10 PM on Friday’s “ DJ” night. Windows but one were stuck shut. Dinner at Jessica’s very pleasant and well prepared. Lovely gardens and lots of tree shade to sit under and relax. No in room fridge and had to ask for ice at the bar.

- Joseph (10/5): - Beautiful inn with spacious rooms and an excellent restaurant on site. Optional Dinner was fantastic. Complementary breakfast was top notch. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Note that the inn has most of the rooms on the 2nd floor and there is no elevator, but that was not an issue for us. Grounds are lovely with nice flower plantings. Highly recommend for a small town Vermont experience. This town is the setting for the Newhart Show of the 80s to 90s and the Waybury Inn, that was the model for the Stratford Inn, is a few miles away and they offer informal tours and dining.

When I got to to the wrong area I tried to call and no one answered to help me figure out where to go. Of course it was in the middle of a snow storm and after dark. Restaurant was not open, I was told there was a bar but come to find out it was in an entirely different building.

- Suz (8/5): We really enjoyed our stay and will book again when I need to be back in this area next year. - We loved the room and clawfoot tub. The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. The breakfast was very good. The bar staying open until 10 pm was also very nice, as I had an obligation until about 9 pm. A small fridge in the room would have been helpful. Also, in the early morning hours there was quite a bit of noise under our room. I think we may have been above the kitchen/breakfast area, but it sounded like some furniture was being moved around. For how early it was, this was a bit disruptive.
- Martha (10/5): Exceptional - Beautifully decorated rooms and common spaces, fabulous restaurant (one of best Inn breakfasts ever) and lovely staff, plus so many thoughtful small touches such as fresh cookies, herbal tea and fruit available on landing. Short walk to downtown Middlebury. Loved the fabulous artwork and beautiful setting. Very comfortable bed. Very nice bar area and sauna. Room was a little hot, couldn't get TV to work. Would be nice to have a more causal space to "hang out"; lobby area in guest house was a little small for private phone call.

I could feel the springs which didn’t make for a comfortable night’s sleep. Breakfast included was superb, staff very friendly. Overall, highly recommend this property if in town for any MIDD events.
