Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (8/5): Bank Holiday Staycation - Lovely little pub/B&B with very friendly staff. Beautiful views and amenities.
Our room was very pleasant but we were right on top of the outdoor area which was a little noisy at night. It was bank holiday weekend mind you!
- Tom (10/5): - Very lovely boutique hotel, cozy and comfortable
- Sophia (10/5): - Cute place to stay. They paid attention to detail with the decor. I would recommend.
- Mark (10/5): Business stay , very relaxing ! - Another amazing few days at the Crab and Lobster, team are brilliant and can't do enough for you. Will be returning !
- Sean (10/5): - Awesome place to stay in Bembridge, Natalie was especially welcoming and made the whole stay really fantastic all round. The view from the terrace is stunning and the food is so so good. A real BnB gem for sure, and I hope to be back soon.
- Andrew (10/5): - I really enjoyed my stay at the crab. The staff are so friendly and make you feel welcome not just when you arrive but all your stay. I would definitely stay here again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it
- Stephanie (10/5): A Little Gem - This hotel is a gem nestling above the beach st Bembridg with great views out to sea. It is in a great location for coastal walks, a 10 walk to the bus towards Newport and Ryde. It is just 15 to 20 minute walk from the village.
Our room, Culver, was spacious and comfortable. The shower ensuite was particularly good, with a gentle monsoon shower at perfect temperature.
We ate there too the first night and the food was excellent. Breakfast was particularly good. It is the first hotel I've stayed in that offers smashed avocado with your choice of eggs for breakfast.
And with all this, the staff were very friendly and helpful. I woukd recommend the Crab & Lobster whole heartedly.
- Paul (10/5): Great Place - Amazing views in the morning! - Great visit, and a wonderful team of staff available during the visit, the room was quiet and comfy, offering everything needed for a night way.
- Jamie (8/5): - Beautiful setting, great service, good value. Would definitely come back.
- Lynne-Marie (10/5): - From the moment we arrived was a perfect fit, originally staying one night & booked another - great location and pub interior makes such a difference as soon as you walk in as exterior very traditional. Staff were super helpful, love it's dog friendly too as also makes a difference to clientele! Thanks to Phil, Drew, Hayley & Chelsea - fab service and local knowledge!
- Steve (10/5): - What an amazing place too stay food amazing accommodation amazing staff amazing nothing else needed too be said except going again
- Thomas (8/5): - Nice staff, lovely food the keys and locks on doors were catching a bit
- JO (10/5): Little gem . - Our stay was fantastic. The rooms are nicely decorated comfortable and clean
The staff, especially Bruce, Phil and Renata and so welcoming, friendly and helpful which really adds to your stay
The food. The food is actually breathtaking. From its presentation and freshness to its sublime taste.
Wish we could have, stayed there longer.
- Stuart (10/5): - Fantastic stay, even if it was only one night, I got there a little late, but the host opened the kitchen back for me. The beer was good as so was the open fire and views, room was great again with a sea view!! And comfortable compliment with a great breakfast in the morning, truly this place is a little gem
- Louise (10/5): - Great place to stay, staff helpful and friendly, rooms clean and comfortable. Beautiful setting by the coast.
- Elaine (8/5): Alone traveller - Lovely Inn in Bembridge, perfect for me travelling alone. Great views from garden, food good, friendly staff
- Robyn Butcher (10/5): Last night around the coast Walk - Had the most Fantastic room overlooking the sea. Great food. Very comfortable bed. Would recommend.
- Anthony (10/5): - I would recommend the place.
Good pub, good rooms. Great staff
- ANDREW (10/5): The Crab & Lobster week stay - I was part of a group of 3 couples who came for a week's holiday. We ate every night at the pub and really enjoyed the food and service. One of the rooms had a problem with their shower, but the manager got a plumber there very quickly. All of us would stay here again.
- Joan (10/5): Great place would definitely recommend - The room was comfortable and clean. The staff were very welcoming and helpful.
We had a great time and hope to go back someday.
- William (10/5): - The view was stunning from the terrace area however you could see the sea from our room but it was a limited view and that was the only negative I could find .
What a stunning part of the Island ,such friendly and caring staff that took a genuine interest in your holiday .
Loved it and would stay there again in a heart beat.
Picturesque setting.
- David (10/5): - The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were able to drop our bags off earlier in the day before check in. The room was small but clean and very comfortable. We had everything we needed for our 2 night stay.
- Peter (10/5): lovely refurbished room - We had the Culver Room which had recently been refurbished and was lovely, the only pratfall was the hot water didn't work, cold showers in May are not for the faint hearted!!!
- rob (10/5): - Very new, today rooms, lovely bed, great service. All good.
- Howard (10/5): - All spotless
- April (10/5): - We loved our stay at the Crab and Lobster. The whole team were really friendly and welcoming. The views from the front of the building were so scenic and the captains breakfast was amazing we had it both mornings.
- Amanda (10/5): - Superb location, lovely room (The Nab), excellent dinners, beautiful breakfasts, and staff who bent over backwards to make our planned and extended stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Would recommend in a heartbeat. Many thanks to Bruce, Michelle, Connor, Nats, Stu and Evie.
- Sheila (6/5): - Rooms very tired need updating, no bath mat in very slippery bath, no handle to hold onto.
Very unsafe. No fans to offer in this extreme heat. Staff first class, best part of the
accommodation. The view from our room was a brick wall. Kitchen fans running from
8.00am till around 10.30 very noisy. Food prices were ridiculous totally overpriced.
Definitely would not stay there again
- Verified traveler (10/5): What a gem! - The staff were very friendly & accomodating. Excellent food.
Amazing location.
- Paul (10/5): Excellent with very minor niggles - Booked sea view room (Nab) it was excellent. Large & airy with windows on two sides & excellent sea view. Only slight niggle, the bath could do with an anti-slip mat. Nearly slipped whilst having a shower. Also, grab handle on wall would be helpful for those of us not quite so nimble. However, that niggle was slightly countered by the fact that the extractor fan actually worked - most unusual!
The food in the restaurant was plentiful & delicious, apart from the pudding! The chocolate brownie had the rasberry gel missing and the Eton Mess had no ice cream. I think the chef was rushing to get home!
Breakfast was fantastic!
Staff were cheerful, friendly & efficient.
Bottom line, that will be the place we stay next time we go to the IOW.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good stay - Very comfortable, easy, did not bother me which was good
- Joy (10/5): - The pub had limited and difficult parking and was situated right in the middle of houses. The outside area could do with some TLC but the food and service was excellent.
The rooms although very clean could do with some updating
- Lorraine (10/5): - Enjoyed our stay, very welcoming.
- john (8/5): - was expecting more fish dishes on the menu, that said food wasovely and the staff made sure our alterations to our dishes were taken care of.
- john (8/5): A Bad Mussel Day. - Our bedroom (The Nab) was very comfortable and spacious with great sea views. We were surprised that our main dish of mussels (described as 1 kg but more like a half) was inedible - grossly overcooked with multiple empty or cracked shells. Amazed the chef did not notice when he plated the mussels. Anyway they responded instantly by taking the cost off the bill and giving us two desserts on the house, so all was forgiven and we will return.
- P (10/5): - What a fantastic location this is. The Inn is right next to the sea with excellent views and beautiful sea walks close by
The staff where brilliant and I thoroughly recommend this location for a visit.
- Valdis (10/5): - Excellent food and service and room modern, spacious and better than expected. Staff were very accommodating and enjoyed our stay immensely. Would rebook in a shot.
- Sadie (8/5): - Comfortable beds, helpful and friendly staff, great location by the sea
- Mrs CVickery (10/5): Friendly place to stay - Lovely friendly staff and our room with a sea view and king bed was very comfortable.
- Richard (6/5): Tiny and cold - Room was tiny and very cold. No heat coming from the radiator.
- Peta (10/5): - On the coast, 30 minutes walk into Bembridge itself. The IoW is not big so everywhere is a not far away but the road system on the Island is not brilliant. Don't think that a 15 mile journey (to say Osborne House) will take less that 30 minutes, it won't. And to finish, the dinner's were very good.
- Ian (10/5): Walking weekend - Check in was very welcoming and efficient. Shown to my room and all things explained with a warm smile
Breakfast was excellent with a varied menu.
I ate dinner on both evenings and highly recommend the food, service and local ales.
A relaxing stay and great value for money.
- John (6/5): - Sea views amazing local area very quiet .
- Fiona (6/5): - The location is fantastic. The room we had was near the kitchen vent so was a little noisy as the vent ran all day.
There seemed to be staffing issues as the rate included breakfast but after sitting and waiting for more than 1 hour we gave up on breakfast and walked into town with two other couples staying at the Inn.
- Julie (6/5): Eat and drink but don’t sleep ! - The food and location are always great and we have visited this pub several times over the years. The staff are very helpful but clearly struggle and it’s clear the kitchen staff struggled but they tried their best. However the room was awful, dirty doors, floor and walls, the bathroom wasn’t cleaned, the bathroom bin was full. The room was dirty and dusty and covered in cobwebs, the shower head kept falling down and the bed and pillows were terrible. I’d never stay again
- Karen (8/5): - Lovely spot, friendly service and excellent food
- Stuart (10/5): Jaunt to the island - Great service, dinner was good and very reasonable.
The views towards the mainland were excellent.
The room was good perhaps a little tired but I understand that is going to be addressed in low season.
Staff excellent, especially Nikki & Nathan.
Would come back again.
- Ann (10/5): Wonderful - Just wonderful. We stayed for 4 nights, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The views were lovely, and the food really was excellent. We regularly go to the IOW, and this is definitely the favourite now.
+ great Sunday lunch carvery, but need to book
- Bembridge is further from Ryde than I expected - more driving than anticipated, but well worth it. Cant wait to return.
- Kamani (8/5): - Nice location. Pleasant, polite and understanding staff. Dominic White, supervisor was kind and very considerate. Food taste nice.
From 22nd night to 24th March, hotel boiler was damaged therefore, had no hot water for our room. Last night, we found out it will take another week to repair/replace the boiler. This issue has created a very difficult situation for us.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Hidden little gem - Great staff, great food
- GRAHAM (10/5): Wonderful! - Wonderful location great friendly staff and service lovely location overlooking the ocean.
- Robert (10/5): Crab & Lobster has it all - Friendly, professional staff and good choice of menu.
Nothing too much trouble.
Great views from pub and terrace.
Have put it on our return list.
- Darren (8/5): - The staff are lovely and welcoming, especially Tracy and the cleaner who made a conscious effort to check every was ok with our stay. The food was exceptional every time and the pub downstairs was decorated beautifully to complete the ambiance. However upstairs in the bedrooms was a different experience. The initial entrance up the stairs is very poor, the carpet is beyond stained and urgently needs replacing, the paint is worn off the stairs, lighting poor this presented a grubby look as a first impression that is critical in any industry. The bedroom is dated, wallpaper peeling off the wall in places. The bedroom door rattles through the night, the shower is very loud, lighting is poor. Our TV didn’t work through out our stay and the heating comes on full blast in the middle of the night. Both of which we reported and was dealt with at the end as it couldn’t be fixed during our stay. No water provided to fill up the kettle. The bedrooms need investment to bring them in line with the pricing charged and deliver the same standard through out this beautiful pub. You can not fault the staff, location and food this was all exceptional.
- Richard (10/5): IoW summer break - Really enjoyable stay - spacious, comfortable, room - delicious food - very helpful and pleasant staff.
- Richard (6/5): Not impressed for a £100 a night. - On arrival I enquired about booking a table for an evening meal and was told that inside was fully booked but tables were available outside without a booking. However, at 7pm, when I arrived for a meal and found an empty table, I was told that they had "reached their capacity" and I couldn't eat. Given that there were no other local pubs/restaurants I had to settle for a sandwich from the local supermarket.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely accomodation, perfect for a couple of nights away. Good breakfast too
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The location and the views were amazing. Food was delicious and breakfast good choice. Staff were all friendly polite and very helpful. All seamed happy in their job and chatty with customers.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Comfy bed and pillows
- Maria (10/5): Very enjoyable stay - Lovely place to spend a couple of nights, a great restaurant, excellent bar and perfect location above the beach
- Lorna (10/5): - Great location. Very friendly & helpful, room very clean and the food in the pub was excellent.
- Phyllida (10/5): Go stay - Staff very friendly landlord a great character. Food very very good Bedrooms very clean
- Robert (10/5): Bliss - It was a surprise for my new partner.
It was all glorious we agreed that we want to return to the Crab and Lobster again and again
A huge thank you
- Johhn (6/5): Disappointing - We felt the name of the establishment a little misleading, as shellfish was not in evidence, although I had the crab salad, which had lost the very fresh sweetness, with brown and white meat mashed together. The table napkins were the size of a small tissue and sauces arrived in little sachets, typical of a cross channel ferry. The feel good factor would be greatly enhanced if these were replaced with pepper and salt grinders and sauces in pots and by the way, English mustard HAS to be Coleman’s. our bed consisted of two mattresses pushed together on a frame, fine, but one was higher than the other!
On a positive note, the kippers at breakfast were delicious. would have loved a proper coffee though!
- Jane (8/5): - All the staff were really happy & attentive.
The property is well hidden away, right on the seafront, was an ideal location for us as a base to work from to visit all of the Island.
- Carl (10/5): Lovely Staff, lovely Pub - Great little place to stay, friendly and accommodating staff make this place what it is. The food is great quality, the burger with bacon and cheese was a firm favourite of mine.
- Stuart (4/5): Car park view - This hotel was ok in a great location
I think we drew the short straw with our room it was called culver which overlooks the car park and bins which were overflowing and had dozens of wasps buzzing around them.
It also is above the toilets of the pub
Which the plumbing made some strange noises.
Also furniture in the room was very dated.its the first room you come to so everyone staying there has to pass your door so can be noisy.
The food in the restaurant was very good and the location next to the beach great so all in all not a disaster.
- Debbie (8/5): - We enjoyed our stay, room was light and airy, third bed was too small for our 14 year old son and he is only 5ft 9inches, shower didn't work but had a large bath with plenty of hot water, they only provided us we 1 toilet roll at a time. Friendly staff, rooms were clean enough although stained pillows under cases and quilt too big for the double quilt cover. Breakfast excellent 1st and 3rd day, not sure what happened on the second day, looks like chef was in a rush.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A quite place to stay; the staff were very helpful and it made for a pleasant stay
- Verified traveler (6/5): - An old pub full of character. Staff very busy but polite and helpful. Evening meals excellent. Room, communal entrance, stairs and hallway in poor decor, bath a little mouldy, carpet has seen much better days, Front rooms have (interupted) sea view. The Culver room at back (nicer room with a side room) overlooks carpark and bins.
- Richard (6/5): Nice room, nice location, disappointing breakfast. - Lovely comfortable room in a nice location. The breakfast was disappointing however. I was offered a tea or coffee with a cooked breakfast and toast. I was not offered any cereal, fruit, fruit juice or yoghurt. The sausage was not high quality in my opinion and I left it. I have stayed in cheaper hotels that provided more satisfying breakfasts.
- Neil (8/5): Ok but could be very good with minor tweaks - Room was ok, but no little milks for a drink (did report this, but none turned up) and remote for the TV didn't work (reported, but no spare batteries - was offered ones from the TV in the bar). Pillows not the greatest, and breakfast was average (poor sausages, and nowhere near as good as the 2 other cheaper hotels I stayed in during a long weekend away).
- Jane (10/5): Fantastic welcome and beautiful views. - Fantastic seaview room which was huge. Bed very comfortable. Breakfast cooked to order which is so much better than a buffet. Highly recommend as Owner and his staff go that extra mile to make you welcome. All Covid measures followed too.
- Grace (8/5): - An ‘ok’ room, clean but a bit tired. Needed updating especially the creaky bed. Nice location by the sea but down a dead end road proving difficult for passing cars and parking when busy.
- Dianne (10/5): - Had dinner here in 2014! Wanted to go back and experience Bed and Breakfast! Cancelled trip due to co vid shutdown!
- Susan (10/5): - Great place to stay. Friendly staff. Amazing food .
Will definitely return for pleasure as well as business
- Jonathan (10/5): - Excellent food and service, lovely rooms, great location
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely sea view and the service was great, nothing was a hassle.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Variety of food drinks
Friendly staff, clean & tidy room
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly staff. Overlooking the beach. Great get away.
- Sean (10/5): Must visit! - Great last minute mini break, highly recommend a visit great place, people & lobster & captains breakfast
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely room - we stayed in the one called The Nab - good choice at breakfast and friendly staff. We had great weather too!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Terrific view found by an interesting journey. Really excellent food and accommodation. Staff fun too. If you are eating suggest you book before you arrive - very popular
