- Karen (10/5): Boutique hotel in quiet, walkable city - Hotel Grinnell is a boutique hotel located in a quiet city; very walkable with a park for easy dog walking near by. It is a renovated middle school with wide hallways, unique common spaces and high ceilinged and comfortable rooms. We understood there was food on-site but the only thing available was charcuterie and we needed more after 11 hours of driving.

- Jennifer (10/5): Clean rooms with a great lounge and fun history - Hotel was easy to find and parking was easily accessible. Staff was very nice and helpful and check in was very easy, even after posted hours. Rooms were clean and cozy, although old electrical and plumbing makes for a constant humm noise. Nonetheless, the history and architecture of the building were fun to learn about. The restaurant "Periodic Table" was a fun lounge with games including Scrabble, shuffleboard, and skeeball, along with card games. If you are a gamer, you'll love hanging out in the lounge, bring an extra set of your favorite card game to donate as the games have clearly seen better days! Due to visiting during the off-season, breakfast was not available, so we received vouchers for nearby restaurants. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend booking here if you are visiting Grinnel College or just the town.

- Maria (8/5): - If you need to travel to Grinnell, this is without a doubt the nicest hotel in the area. However, the walls are paper thin and we could hear all the conversations from the room next to ours. The old hardwood floors are so squeaky that if anyone in the room adjacent to ours got up during the night, we would hear them. The elevator works good, but it makes an unsettling noise right before it stops, so loud that my son did not feel comfortable in it. The room itself is beautiful and in good condition. The hotel advertises that it offers free breakfast, but in fact it offers $10 vouchers per person for nearby restaurants that offer breakfast. The hotel does not have its own private parking lot, but rather street parking.

Temperature control was great and the bed and linens were comfortable. The air system has a deep rumbling sound that seems louder than it should be for a room. The toilet was wobbly, uncomfortably so. The shower splashes out of the shower given the design.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Beautiful, but not comfortable - Good and bad. The bed was pretty low quality -- despite the lovely four poster aspect, the mattress was too soft. I have back problems and ended up sleeping on the floor. The water faucet squirted all over the place every time we turned it on, soaking the mirror and counter. We had to request bedding for the pull-out sofa. Once received, the bedding lacked sheets. When I went back to the front desk to let them know, the concierge had walked away and left a phone number. Understandable in such a small hotel, but annoying because now it was late and we had no sheets. One good thing was the small bar/restaurant on the premises. They had a very good jazz trio, and the food was very good, both dinner and the free breakfast in the morning. The hotel was a beautiful building, but they need to work out the kinks.

The repurposed old school building was a pleasant surprise, with lots of space in the corridors as well as the rooms. I loved the modern clean design. The room was well laid out and spotless, with lots of privacy. We could park our car directly in front of the hotel. Our room was not serviced at all even though we did not have a "do not disturb" sign on the door and we were out most of the day. We had to leave our rubbish bin and towels outside our room hoping they would get the hint as there was no one at the reception to ask.

We were very excited to come back to the property to settle in after a full day and although there were customers that had seemed to be served, we waited around and no one was available or it was closed, perhaps a seasonal thing. Other normal services did not seem to be in place either and it was actually disappointing as we were looking forward to the normal, wonderful service from the property. If there are changes in services, for seasons or other, I would at least show that in reservation listings so that guests know what to expect...especially when we were excited to show the property to family for the first time. The heat wasn't working enough to keep the building warm, but management made sure people that needed it had a space heater. Shower water was hot. Thank goodness the pipes didn't freeze. Love the double head rain fall showerhead. This is my 2nd time staying at this property, and I have already made my next reservation. I would go out of my way to stay at this hotel.

- Stephen (10/5): I loved it! - Since I haven't been traveling much lately, I wanted to stay someplace nice--and Hotel Grinnell definitely was that. Since they repurposed an old school into a hotel, they used a school theme throughout. Rooms are a wonderful mix of new and old--nice, clean modern styling, but with the wonderful old hardwood floors from days gone by. Other guests made the same comments as I did, "This place is cool!"

- Christine (8/5): Clean and comfortable but too pricey - Everything was great! Very clean. Hallway on the third floor had a strange smell but not terrible. The shower has the new style with half of a door (no curtain) which is nice except the rain shower a hole that sprayed sideways and flooded the floor. The free breakfast was perfect. We were going to go to the restaurant the night before for an appetizer and have nachos but they were $25! Overall a very nice hotel but not sure it's worth the price. It is also strange that no one is at the front desk, you have to call them on the phone. If the price was much lower, I would stay again

- Gwen (10/5): Stay here if you have the chance! - Very charming hotel, converted from a former Junior High School. Retains much of the original wooden and tile flooring,just adds to the overall charm of the place. Staff very helpful and the free breakfast was delicious.

- Carol (6/5): Very good option for Grinnell - Location is excellent Breakfast was pretty lean - they don't have enough staff so one person was taking care of everything, consequently no coffee or fruit available at 9 a.m. until staff was available. Children jumping on/off bunk beds at night on second floor made quite a racket for us on the first floor.

- Roy M (10/5): - Very nice local hotel in a former school. Room and bathroom were clean and in excellent condition. Price was very reasonable. Only about a 10 min drive from interstate 80. Complimentary breakfast was excellent. My wife and I would stay here again if in the area. 4/5 stars for service because there staff is not always at the front desk and can take a few minutes for staff to arrive when called. However, did not detract from our staff.

- Joe (10/5): - We absolutely enjoyed our stay at Hotel Grinnell. The school theme throughout was wonderful and reminiscent of our youth. I cannot say enough about the wonderful staff, the great restaurant (Periodic Table) and bar. We attended race weekend and the “shuttle” service was incredible. The hotel owners, happy to say our new found friends, hosted us in their private motor-coach, front row parking at venue, and a weekend experience we will forever cherish. Please do yourself a favor, book your stay at Hotel Grinnell, you’ll be glad you did.

- Nanette (10/5): This is a true hidden gem. - This hotel is a real gem. We have been traveling cross country and have had to stay in boring, nondescript hotels all along the way - except for Hotel Grinnell! The staff was friendly and helpful, and the whole facility was so charming and clever in its decor. The town of Grinnell is cute and lively. There is a beautiful big park across the street from the hotel and they had a free concert playing that we listened to while eating dinner outside at the hotel restaurant. We were just so surprised to find such a great town and hotel.

- Mccurry (1/5): I didn't stay they supposedly canceled my booking! - I liked the location I didn't like how I received a text msg from a staff member telling me they went ahead and canceled my booking before 6pm the day I booked, saying something about me not having a real credit card! It was rude and misleading and very discriminating!
