• G6570PRrosam (10/5): Amazing service! - Hotel Mar de Plata is a comfortable and reliable place to stay. I have been there twice during my Camino journey, and each time I felt warmly welcomed. What impressed me most was Ana at reception. Her welcoming smile, warm presence, resourcefulness, and helpful information immediately put everyone at ease. Through the years, she has not changed; she still carries the same radiance. Susana in hospitality was also very attentive to my dietary needs and shared that same warmth. I was greatly touched when Elizabeth and Alicia from room service said goodbye, wishing me many blessings and a great Camino in life. These people truly represent the Camino spirit, and I am deeply grateful. I hope one day to return to this hotel.

• petrapA1320MB (6/5): Very hot, loud rooms towards the street… - The room was super hot, no aircon. So I has to leave the windows open. Which in the middle of a Spanish town towards the street (although it‘s a small street) does not work!! Even on a normal weekday…People screaming around, dogs barking…and the worst: cars accelerating like on a race track!!! Could not sleep at all….

• Marta (8/5): Todo muy bien, excepto el aire acondicionado - Habitación y baño cómodos y limpios. Hotel muy céntrico. El personal es muy atento. Las camas son muy confortables. Se echó de menos un aire acondicionado más potente, ya que había casi 40 grados en el exterior, y nosotros no aguantamos bien el calor. Tardó toda la noche en ponerse a la temperatura que nos resultaba cómoda. Afortunadamente, la persona que estaba en la recepción nos proporcionó un ventilador potente gracias al cual estuvimos confortables para poder dormir bien. Seguramente, para personas con más tolerancia al calor, esto no resulte ningún problema.

• Riccos (10/5): Day 1 Camino - Lovely staff who looked after us on arrival and at breakfast. Very comfortable room with clean bathroom and plentiful hot water. Good position for the bus station and the Camino. Very nice buffet breakfast. Not much in Sarria. Basic restaurants with ordinary food

• cathysN5453TB (8/5): Great place to start your Camino - We arrived in Santiago by plane, then hired a car to Sarria and stayed at Hotel Mar de Plata for one night. The communication with the hotel prior to our arrival was fantastic - they helped with drivers, luggage transport, and any other questions we had. The room was basic, but very nice - clean, spacious and a good bathroom. It was a great place to begin our Camino and I recommend.

Comfortable rooms, nice shower and a great breakfast, lots of choice with fresh foods. Supermarket literally 3 minutes walk away. Great start for the Camino walk.

Staff welcoming & helpful. Especially if starting or continuing the Camino. Rooms clean with the basics. Would have liked some sort of complimentary beverage in the lobby that is self-service. Even hot water dispenser with assorted teas &/or cocoa. Especially as there are no coffee makers in the rooms. Also, the lights turn off too quickly in the hallways. Had to really move my arms continually to keep the lights on while waiting for the elevator.

Next day we still have a leak even my friends who was on a different room near us had to the same problem

• eht17 (10/5): Fantastic for starting your Camino - Stayed for the night before starting our Camino. Lovely, friendly welcome. Our room was lovely and clean with a very good shower. There was a good choice of food for breakfast that was constantly being replenished. Felt that the staff were excited for us for our journey ahead and made it a very special start.

Everywhere in the hotel was very clean. Very pleased with size of room and bathroom. Quiet. Nice bar and TV area to relax (ground floor).

The food was good and there were restaurants, convenience stores and grocery stores that were walking distance. The rooms were spartan but comfortable. The highlight, was the kindness of the staff. They were helpful and understanding, called taxis and spoke Spanish to others for us. They were tremendously helpful and we really appreciated it.

• julie_higgins (10/5): Top hotel for pilgrims - Excellent hotel catering for Pilgrims. Staff obliging and dining room catered for my gluten free diet without any problem. Room was extremely clean comfortable beds and sufficient room for our two suitcases. The receptionist went out of her way for us as did the dining staff. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
• Craigp0017 (8/5): Prior to Camino - We stayed two nights prior to our walk. Reasonably located, good for walk commencement and 2 minutes walk to a laundromat, with several cafes around the corner. A little further away is the shopping area, restaurants and older features of town. Staff were great assurance, rooms were spacious, clean and quiet. Buffet breakfast and basic evening dining in a canteen type environment and the bar has a limited offering.

We speak no Spanish so the were able to converse in English, which was so appreciated. Breakfast was continental and just what we needed. The rooms are clean and comfy. Highly recommended.
