Guest Reviews
- Nick (10/5): Loved it! - Loved it, friendly welcome, staff that smile. Spacious clean room with great food and ale. Well done Red Lion, I’ll be back for sure.
- Debbie (10/5): - Been twice now, the staff are so helpful, rooms lovely and clean. Very comfy beds, so handy to Bury market which is a bonus.
Thanks guys see u soon x
- Paul (8/5): - Very little to dislike or find fault with, overall very good value. The staff and food were very good. The only slight negatives were doors, the main door into the room was a little fidly to open, especially after a few drinks 😉, and the bathroom door was sticking. Would definitely stay there again when you visit that area.
- Rebecca (10/5): - Are home away from home for 8days!
Absolutely amazing staff who made us feel very welcomed. The most delicious food and drinks. The overall atmosphere of the countryside was breathtaking and so peaceful.
- Andrew (6/5): Not as good as previous stays - Stayed here before, great location and restaurant. Room needs a good dust, you can see it all on the wallpaper. Hairdryer was missing which meant I had to leave with wet hair as we left before the pub opened. Radiator vibrates every time traffic went by, which kept me awake - we’ve never had this happen before but we were in a different room.
- Tiffany (10/5): A pleasant surprise - A hidden gem! Stopped here for a night on route to Cardiff for the Oasis reunion tour. Totally exceeded our expectations. It was a lovely friendly place, with nicely renovated features, tasty food and great value (Mon-Thurs 3 courses for £20). The breakfast was exceptional also. A great stay and excellent value for money

- DAWN (6/5): - Tired room in need of an update. Room not cleaned or serviced during 2 night stay. Waste bins not emptied and milk cartons not replenished- had to ask for milk on second morning. Staff friendly and obliging

- Katherine (8/5): Ask for a room at the back. - Our second stay here. Our first stay was excellent; we had a room at the back. This time our room at the front was quite noisy. Lots of pub restaurant noise, road noise, and the wall between rooms 1 and 2 must be paper thin as we could hear every word of the tv show they watching next door!
That said, everything is clean and tidy. The decor is classic country style, bathrooms are perfectly adequate. Staff are welcoming and the breakfast choices are plentiful. We had cokked breakfasts whuch were excellent.
- annette (10/5): - Convenient for our needs to visit family and friends. Friendly staff. Good choice of food, which is well cooked. The room this time wasnt as good as our last visit. But having said that we will stop here again.

- Verified traveler (8/5): - Overall I really liked my stay. However as someone travelling for business maybe not the best.
Within my room I could hear the bar which went on until 11.30 also the guest in the room next to me. Really not the best nights sleep
- mark (10/5): - Everything you want in a hotel will be useing again when I’m next in the area great staff amazing food immaculate rooms and breakfast that will last you all day
- Dorothy (10/5): - Lovely, comfortable room. Very disappointed to be told food order had to be in by 6.25pm as kitchen closed at 6.30pm. Couldn’t make it until 7pm so I had to go out and find somewhere else to eat.
- Steve (10/5): Will stay again !! - Lovely staff friendly pub good rooms great food lovely breakfast, no complaints at all
- Jonathan (10/5): - Lovely place to stay.
- Simon (8/5): Value for Money - Lovely place to stay, excellent food and good value
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good pub with rooms - Staff were very helpful and friendly. Room was basic but very clean and comfortable and very reasonably priced including an excellent breakfast. We had a very good stay.
- Pete (10/5): Great place - Fantastic staff and service,I couldn’t fault a thing, steak and ale pie one of the best, and I have eaten some pies !
- Louise (10/5): Lovely atmosphere - Lovely hotel, food was amazing and friendly staff. Would definitely stay again.
- Gillian (10/5): The Red Lion - The Red Lion is a beautiful pub. Everything about our stay was delightful. The staff are exceptionally nice and helpful.
The only downside is the car park is very full at lunchtime and evening dinner, a testament to the lovely food they serve I guess, also there is nowhere to sit other than on stools at the bar if you just want a drink. We would have no hesitation staying here again.
- B (10/5): - A teapot in the room says it all! Attention to detail and staff friendliness made my stay really enjoyable. Food awesome. Reasonable charges. On 480 bus route that goes to Bolton and Bury. Great dog walks: Holcombe hill and Peel tower and the Jumbles. We had a good time! Thank you
- Claire (10/5): - The staff are wonderful and friendly.
Superb food and lovely atmosphere. Nice clean and smart room.
- Jim (10/5): - The staff were excellent throughout our stay.
- Sheila (8/5): Helpful staff-good food. - One night stop over. Very large comfortable room with period furniture which just needs a little tlc but overall very good. Great food and helpful staff.
- Nigel (10/5): Good - Room was clean and comfortable, excellent breakfast
- Andrew (10/5): Yes! - Very friendly and very clean. Will stay again. Fully recommend here.
- Nina (10/5): Spacious room, lovely food - Lovely hotel - family room was very spacious and had everything we needed. Bar downstairs was dog friendly too! Breakfast was beautiful with lots of choice. Only thing I wasn’t aware of on booking was a £15 fee for the dog on top of our bill. This wasn’t in the pricing information that I could see on the website.
- Simon (10/5): Made a business trip feel like a holiday! - Lovely food, lovely staff, happy to help in every way! Made a business trip feel like a holiday.
- Allan (8/5): - Great stay, good value & excellent breakfast!

Breakfast was mega and the staff super friendly
- Janet (10/5): - Great friendly staff, very welcoming in all departments, especially the Housekeeper.
Lovely food and cosy little bar. Defo recommend. Lovely green area and walks to enjoy.
- Ronald (4/5): - For the standard of the room the cost £250.00 was very very expensive, The room was a basic double room and was overpriced by at least £125.00. If it hadnt been an emergancy l would not have stayed and will certainty not do so again.
- Vanessa (8/5): - Great pub with large spacious rooms and comfy bed. Staff were fabulous (especially the bar man)! Food was amazing especially the breakfast!
- Sean (10/5): Great stay - All ok staff very friendly bed very hard and shower cubicle quite small. Food was spot on for dinner and brekkie
- Graeme (10/5): - What a great discovery this was.
We wanted to stay in Manchester but due to the exorbitant costs chose the Red Lion instead.
What a discovery.
Fantastic food, great service and really well kept ale.
It’s also a short time into Manchester, and also on the doorstep of the Pennines if you wish to go into the countryside.
- Ian (10/5): 10/10 Excellent - Such a nice place with lovely, friendly, helpful staff, good food and a comfortable and well presented room. Thoroughly recommended

- Deborah (10/5): Our stay - It was great
- Colin (6/5): Ok - Nice rooms above pub. Bathroom needed a good clean. Dust on fittings.
- Brian (10/5): - Excellent friendly service.
- Michael (10/5): Revisiting Family - The shower pressure was weak, but overall it was a pleasant stay
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good but spooky - Room OK, food OK too, but we were a bit spooked when somebody tried our bedroom door handle/lock twice, once in the late evening and another at about 7:50 in the morning!
- Mark (10/5): - We had a short visit but the place was lovely . Staff welcomed us warmly . Had a beautiful room with all facilities.
Complimentary tea , coffee hot chocolate and biscuits . Breakfast was 10/10 . Bar has some wonderful beers and lagers on tap as well . Even has car charging ports . Well done to all the team at the Red lion . 5 star in our opinion .
- Edwin (8/5): Hit and humid room - Due to the hot weather during my stay, the room was quite hot. Another issue that worsen the problem was the small window opening which made it worst.
- Andrew (10/5): Great hotel - Fantastic little hotel, with friendly staff and fantastic food.
- Charlotte (10/5): - Beautiful room stayed in the 4 bed. Lovely decor, clean through out, Had a great stay with my family.
- Debbie (10/5): Excellent As Always - Another great stay at The Red Lion. It never disappoints. A lovely, spacious room with a comfy bed. Great food, both dinner & breakfast, and friendly, helpful staff. There was a slight hiccup with our room when we first arrived but, after speaking to a member of staff, the problem was quickly rectified.
- Jean (10/5): Red Lion proved an excellent choice! - Very friendly and welcoming staff. The Red Lion met all expectations after telephone conversation at time of booking few months earlier. Plenty of parking space available on site. Double room was good size with plenty of storage and seating. Comfortable bed. Very clean room. Light and airy, well stocked tray for tea/coffee etc. A good size bathroom with plenty of quality towels. A stool would have been appreciated there, as we are elderly and legs not so good ! Good breakfast choices and excellent menu for lunch and dinner. Very speedy service from well trained and very friendly staff. Large veranda to the rear provides comfortable additional outside seating in warm weather. plenty of cosy seating in the spacious inside area. Very happy with our two night stay and would certainly recommend. Ran a guest house ourselves for many years and know well the hard work involved in making a success of the business. Well done Red Lion staff!

- Cheryl (10/5): An Amazing experience - What an amazing hotel. Everything was just perfect. From the beautiful food to the friendly staff. Nothing could have made our stay any better. Every member of staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. I especially want to say a Thank you to the bar tender who was working on Friday night ( sorry I didn't catch his name). But what a breath of fresh air he was. Before we had even sat down he asked what we would like to drink. Offered us alternatives and really made us feel welcomed into the bar. It was a pleasure to s
see someone who really enjoyed his job. I couldn't recommend The Red Lion Enough. Thank you. You will see us again Soon :)
- beverley (8/5): - great check in and staff
- Erin (10/5): - Friendly and welcoming, perfect for a stay with great food :)
- Jason (10/5): - Nice place
- John (8/5): Everything was great except the comfort of the bed - Lovely little pub. Everything was great except the bed unfortunately which is in need of a replacement mattress - far too soft.
Upgrade the mattresses and this would easily be 9 or 10 out of 10
Food and drink were both excellent.
