Guest Reviews
- Sally (9/5): Great accomodation with warm friendly staff and great food. - Great location for us to explore the local area Nothing!
- Andrew (9/5): Ideal for a short stay -
- Graham (7/5): Nice place but not for me - It is a lovely pub in a nice location. The food was lovely. Parking was easy.
The room was clean and well presented. There was a smell in the room which I tracked to the shower. It was a musty damp smell even though the shower appeared to be clean.
I couldn't adjust the heated towel rail which made the room very warm.
The complimentary shower gel was the smallest bottle I've ever seen and is not sufficient.
Breakfast didn't start until 8am which was of no use to me as I was leaving at 7:30. I was offered the option of a packed breakfast.
- Mary (9/5): Great little gem - The ambience was wonderful ans the food was epic, the hotel room was wonderful The only thing i can say was the smell in the shower but was just water thats been sat there as noy used for few days, they could of just gone in the ensure the smell had gone
- ken (9/5): Convenient - Lovely setting great food ample parking comfy room Not much

- Carol (9/5): An excellent place to stay as we were visiting a local attraction the next day. - A very comfortable room with tea making facilities and a lovely shower. The room met our needs and the bed was very good. It was quiet at night although this was mid week at the pub. Friendly staff and plenty of room to park. The cooked breakfast was very good and plentiful No breakfast cereal and limited to one hot drink at breakfast

- James (10/5): Very satisfied - Everything Nothing
- Ross (7/5): Lovely place to stay . . A few simple things would really make it even better! - The decor and room were great . Really smart place . The room was freezing cold on arrival . No instructions or welcome guid in room for features. No phone so we rang reception off mobile and they turned the heating on remotely. No Internet connection to tv so could not use smart features like netflix or and apps . Rang and asked how to connect as it wouldn't connect to the WiFi or hotspots on phones but staff did not know how to connect it . We tried for some time . Just doesnt seem to connect to the wifi.. Just settled for normal tv in the end .
The bath was amazing! But only a mini soap and a tiny shampoo and condition. X1 of each for 2 people. For £126 a night i thought they'd be some decent bath bits to accompany such a nice setup . Lovely place , just a few more details would make it an even better experience .

- Lisa (10/5): - Beautiful location. Great food and rooms very clean Food was excellent
- Konrad (10/5): -
- Nigel (8/5): Relaxing comfortable stay - Friendly welcoming staff Last orders called at 22:00
- RHIAN (9/5): Lovely restaurant and rooms conveniently situated for Newport. - Very comfortable and clean bedrooms, although very warm rooms and no airconditioning there were fans available in every room. Had a meal at the restaurant which was superb! Staff very friendly and helpfull. The only negative we found was at breakfast..tea is delivered straight away in a mug and the breakfast came half an hour later after we finished our tea and if we needed another cup we had to pay for it. Also the bacon was so over cooked we couldn’t cut it. The portions were more than enough though, good value for money. This said, we would still stay again here.

- David (9/5): A great place for a lovely relaxing stay. - I thought the Ugly Duckling was decorated really nice, with a modern touch. It had a lovely indoor and outdoor areas, it felt a very welcoming place with great staff that were very helpful. There is nothing I didn’t lik
- Mark (10/5): Enjoyed my stay at the ugly Duckling and would definitely return. - Very stylish property with great outdoor space. Possibly best breakfast I’ve had on my travels
Great staff and very welcoming Only downside was the shower could have been better pressure wise. But everything else made up for it
- Lauren (10/5): -
- Cristeta (10/5): We had a comfortable stay in the accommodation. The facilities were clean, well-maintained, and conveniently located. Th - Closed to my work place None
- susan (8/5): -
- Molly (10/5): Very friendly staff, the room was clean and tidy and pretty views! - the cleanliness and the aesthetic looks. There was no issues with the property!
- Hockin (8/5): - The room, the location and the friendly staff. The loud banging music at 12.45 in the morning.
- Joy (8/5): Pleasant relaxed weekend. - Good breakfast menu. Large portions for those who chose cooked breakfasts.
Location suited me as it is on the edge of town although only a short drive from the town centre. The road is very quiet late at night and there is no light from street lamps so the bedroom is dark. I have no improvements to suggest. Everything was fine.
- Tim (7/5): Mixed - It was OK but won't be going back. - Was surprised coffee was limited to one cup. No fruit or toast offered. Premier inn breakfast is better value. Positively we had Eggs Royal which was very good. Fruit, cereal, toast, and coffee refill as part of the deal.
- Teresa (10/5): Very pleased with The Ugly Duckling, they have got the whole concept of dining, sleeping drinking and hospitality spot o - What a find!!! Stunning setting, excellent staff, highly rated, clean room. The wasps were annoying but you can’t control Mother Nature.
- David (3/5): The bar staff need training. - The lady serving breakfast was very nice. The staff in the bar on Sunday afternoon/evening were terrible. They definitely need a refresher course in customer service. Standing for ages at the bar waiting to be served. I could understand that if the bar was busy but it wasn't. Then the lady taking my order wanted to know my table number. I replied that there was no number on the table and she argued with me saying all tables had numbers and said she couldn't take my order without a table number. I asked her to show me where the number was located on the table and she reluctantly agreed only to then agree that those particular tables do not have numbers. Terrible!! And the food was only passable at best. Also the blind on the window in the bedroom didn't work properly. I won't be staying at the Ugly Duckling again!!
- Duncan (10/5): Exceptional - Comfortable and friendly. Excellent food.
- Brenda (9/5): Quiet, comfortable room, with great staff, and choice of delicious breakfasts - Lovely quiet room with spa bathtub and good shower. Attentive and kind staff were very helpful. Breakfast was excellent and more than I could finish. The room was clean with a very comfortable bed. Really I liked just about everything and slept well. The tub is quite high so one needs to be careful getting in and out. A non slip bath mat may make the tub less slippery.
Also I was there on quite a warm and muggy night. The quilt was too warm so maybe offer a sheet + blanket as an alternative. To be fair, I should have just asked - they were so accommodating that had I mentioned it, I know they would have brought them to me.
I wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again.
- Chloe (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast was lovely.
- Patricia (9/5): Superb - The room was very clean and comfortable. The weather was very very warm and the room was very hot. A fan had been provided but an air conditioner unit would have been better. As neither my husband or I could sleep Breakfast was great. Nothing to dislike only the heat in the room
- Anonymous (10/5): Beautiful place to stay, lovely bedroom and fabulous breakfast. We would definitely stay again! - Location was good as it was close to the festival we were going to. Room was beautiful and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was amazing. We had a lovely overnight stay, thank you. A fan in the room would have been good as it was over 33 degrees outside and a very hot day. We should have gone to reception and asked really but it was late when we arrived. It wasn’t too much of a problem though.
- Cathrine (8/5): Okay stay. - Lovely and clean
Good breakfast Noise from fan outside
Noise from party Saturday night...not told in advance
No manager or senior staff member to give feedback on departure

- Sharon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mackay (10/5): Exceptional - Bath, breakfast, friendly staff Quite expensive
- Sue (8/5): A good place for a stopover. - Room was comfy, nice shower. Food very good. Blinds at window were broken and wouldn’t stay half open so because of the outside lighting we had to close them up which stopped any air flow from window. Fan did help a bit.
- Ken (10/5): Peaceful , very nice food, hospitable , nice facilities and room - The breakfast was very good and was a very nice room with helpful staff .
- Anonymous (10/5): Perfect. Thankyou - The location was beautiful. The beer garden was amazing we sat out and could completely relax. The staff were all lovely and polite and did everything we asked from them with a smile.
The pub was beautifully decorated and it had a lovely, relaxed atmosphere.
The room a little on the small size but absolutely not a problem. We went on an extremely hot weekend and the room did get very hot but a fan was provided. The bed was comfy and the pillows perfect. Beautifully clean and well maintained

Bed was super comfy food was amazing at the restaurant and breakfast was plentiful and well presented Blind was broken in our room. couldn't get air in as blind was held up with the handle. Not a massive issue but told reception on leaving

- Ellen (8/5): Very good -
- Julia (10/5): Excellent staff - comfortable room - great breakfast. Ok VFM! - Location. Bright. Modern and comfortable. Warm welcome. Comfy bed. Nice temperature Bath felt unsafe - rail would have helped! Steep steps and awkward doors!
- Lauren (9/5): Relaxing and peaceful with good food and drinks. - The breakfast was lovely perfect portion size and good variety. The WiFi was quite slow but the only negative I can think of.
- Dr (8/5): Good value, near Telford - Breakfast was well prepared, all options had to be selected from the menu. One dish was included in the room rate. If you prefer a buffet breakfast, this was not available. Room had a limited view of the outside world, over the flat roof of one of the function fooms.
- Hilary (8/5): Very good -
- Patrick (9/5): Just what was needed when working away. - Staff, food, beer and bedroom were excellent. WiFi info in the rooms

- Rjmg79 (10/5): Quality establishment with very good food and drink package. Staff are attentive and knowledgeable - Excellent location, attentive staff, food and drink is great Little bit of rust came out of the bath tap which took a while to reduce.
- Philip (10/5): Brilliant, lovely room, great food. - Lovely room, great bar and food area. And the breakfast was probably the best cooked breakfast I have ever had. All perfectly prepared, lovely place to stay. Staff were lovely too. -
- Rhys (8/5): Very good -

- Vivek (10/5): Exceptional - Was nice and cosy not much noise considering the pub below It was good
- Josephine (8/5): Very good - Food was excellent. Rooms nice. Weather was particularly cold and I think the boiler may have been struggling to keep up. Hot water tap was barely warm and room temperature wasn't that warm either.

- Stephen (10/5): Great. We enjoyed it all. - Breakfast was great. We both had the American breakfast for a change and this was excellent. Not sure if we should have been offered fruit juice, cereals and toast in the morning as well as the cooked breakfast. But in the end only a minor quibble.

- Karen (7/5): Good - Bedroom and en-suite very clean. Breakfast excellent Above door in bedroom very bright green fire exit illuminated sign on all night making it difficult to sleep . We thought evening dinner expensive for what meal was
- Cathryn (9/5): Will be staying here again! - Rural but not too far from anything. Lovely place as a whole, nicely decorated, good ambience and very friendly staff. Room and ensuite was very nice, both very clean and in good nick. Bed was comfy and we both slept well. Double glazing does well at keeping road noise down to a minimum. Breakfast was REEEALLY good; huge, so bring your appetite! Couple of functional problems in the bathroom which we reported on leaving, they were very apologetic and seemed keen to sort asap.

- Anna (10/5): Excellent all round quality pub/hotel with good food, good atmosphere and friendly staff. - Lovely building and grounds with quality furnishings. Outside areas look fantastic and would have been enjoyed in warmer months. The bedrooms are comfortable, clean and cosy with everything we needed and the spa bath was a great addition.
Staff are lovely and happy to help with anything. Limited but good selection of meals/breakfast options and all food was excellent quality.
This was our second business stay here. It is not walking distance to anything but this was not a problem for us at all and we had everything we needed on site.
