• Beth (8/5): Wonderful experience - We had a wonderful stay in this charming, family run hacienda. The room was well appointed, the bed comfortable and the shower roomy and with good temperature. There was coffee in the room. Our only slight disappointment was lack of breakfast but we found a fantastic restaurant nearby. The location is just a short walk from the plaza, yet it was a quiet neighborhood. Perhaps best of all was a guided tour we took with Jupiter, the fantastically knowledgeable owner

We were a couple of hours early but our room was available and they lgave us access however I did message them the day before to let them know. Room is spacious and the bathroom is nice. Bed is comfortable. Location is an easy flat walk of about 10 minutes to the plaza where one can find lots of places to dine. Enjoyes watching the young families in the square at night enjoying themselves with an ice cream or crepe. No negatives!

We did the tour to the volcano, a coffee plantation, visited a wooden Mask Maestro and the museum in the old Hacienda. The museum was especially good and Jupiter lead us through the fantastic pre-hispanic pottery collection and the work of Alejandro Rangel Hidalgo. Amazing!! Considering the price point of this stay everything was acceptable. The bed was comfortable, the AC worked. The internet was a bit slow to allow streaming. I had my own wifi hotspot so not a problem

What kind of people are they.make you think about the other reviews. The way booking.com and the owner treated me. The husband Jupiter runs best tours of area, under company Admire Mexico Tours. Very knowledgeable and excellent English. The bed is comfortable and secure, and cute bathroom etc. Wish breakfast was available as restaurants don’t open until 930, making it hard if you want an early start. A bit of traffic noise on a Sunday night, cobblestones are noisy an hotel close to Main Street in town but a fan or white noise takes care of that. Minor issue compared to convenient location and comfort.

• Marcelo (3/5): Poor - Awful experience. They run 2 of my credit cards several times without my consent. My bank called me from the States, and I had to cancel both suspecting fraud. I booked 3 rooms for my son weeding. The rooms were ok. The staff, especially the Lady manager, she was in bad humor practically all time. Bad customer assistance. They don't have any training for international customers. They ruined 2 of my favorites credit cards. Pay cash if you decided to stay there.

Eneste minus var at den annoncerede morgenmad var sløjfet uden forklaring, men vi havde noget yoghurt i køleskabet. Comala er en meget lille by, så det meste foregår i Colima og det er en fordel at have en bil.

La unica observacion es que el servicio de desayuno (con costo adicional) esta suspendido por la pandemia cuando ya todos los restaurantes se encuentran abiertos.

• Verified traveler (10/5): Bien ubicado y comodo para el precio en Comala - El cuarto estaba bien y era lo que esperabamos de un pequeño hotel familar de 3 estrellas. Nada lujoso, pero todo limpio y funcionando bien, aire acondicionado, agua, electricidad, tv etc. Muy bien ubicado en el centro del pueblo, que aunque es muy pequeño tiene zonas mejores que otras. El unico detalle y que quiza lo entiendo, es que ibamos a la boda de un amigo y el grupo de amigos en el que ibamos teniamos reservadas 4 de las 6 habitaciones del hotel ... y como estabamos en la fiesta nos estaban hablando a todos para que "aseguraramos" llegar o algo asi se sintio algo insitente y molesto. Tambien que solo iba haber recepcion hasta las 10:00pm.... y tuvimos que salir de la fiesta para ir a hacer checkin. Fuera de esos detalles es una buena opcion en Comala, si quieres la paz y la tranquilidad de varios dias. Si piensas ir solo por un dia a conocer el pueblo o de fin de semana tambien puedes quedarte en uno de los muchos hoteles de Colima (que esta realmente cerca como a 10min) y aunque ciudad, tambien es tranquila y bonita. Y quiza obtengas mejor servicio por el mismo dinero.
• Brian (10/5): Great place in Comala! - Very kind owners who speak perfect English, if needed. Beautiful little property with a nice common area next to all the rooms. The room was fairly simple, but it was comfortable enough and had a very well-done bathroom. It's about a 5-10 minute walk from the main plaza, which I didn't find to be bad.
• jcervantes1999 (10/5): Hidden Gem in Comala - Once again, Casa Alvarada came through with all of our expectations. Jupiter is an AMAZING host, and an AWESOME tour guide. We truly enjoyed our 4 night stay in January of 2020. Breakfast was DELICIOUS, and Casa Alvarada is walking distance to a church, plaza, restaurants, and shops. I will forward to returning with my family in July of 2020.
• Kris051 (10/5): Lovely little inn in the middle of Comala - My husband and i recently spent six nights in the suite in Casa Alvarada. It was a lovely refuge - clean, well equipped with a kitchen, living room, bath and bedroom (two twins combined to make a very comfy king sized bed). You enter through a locked gate into a quiet, green courtyard with a hammock and hanging bed and lots of tables and chairs - it truly feels like an escape from the busy town (not that Comala is ever all that busy!). There are five rooms - I believe there is only one suite, however. Jupiter and Mara own the place, and both speak impeccable English. Jupiter is also a very knowledgeable guide - if you can, book a half day tour with him for bird watching, or kayaking, or hiking (Admire Mexico is the name of his company). Comala is a great little town, with an active plaza each evening and some interesting restaurants - Casa Alvarada is a perfect place to base yourself!
• Adolfopi (6/5): Average place - The hotel is well located in Comal walking distance to the main plaza. The room we stayed was in general clean and had a sofa-bed. On the down side the room was dark during the day very little light form the outside. In three days we never had hot water in the shower and also the drain was not working well. They fix the last thing but never the lack of hot water. The husband owner runs Admire Mexico and he give tours about the coffee and the volcanos, a bit expensive but recomendable.
• OddsBodikins (8/5): Pleasant place - Tasteful, very clean room, beautiful patio, and good location for exploring this “pueblo mágico” and the surrounding area. Hosts speak excellent English (and run Admire Mexico, which operates tours throughout Colima). Appreciated the in-room coffee maker. Getting in touch with the hosts (to arrange breakfast / tours / check-in and -out) always felt awkward, however, like we were invading their private space.

The staff went out of their way to answer questions and even personally drove us to the bus station . The courtyard was amazing as was the decor in the common area . Beautiful masks from the master carvers of nearby Suichitlan , Katrina dolls , and wonderous dogs of Colima . Local tours available right from home base . And yes ... the breakfast is splendid !
• r0ganp (10/5): Absolutely loved it! - We only had a one night stay at this beautiful, quiet, peaceful place, but sure wished it had been longer. The perfect place to stay when visiting the lovely authentic town of Comala, it is a very short stroll to the square where we experienced the endless servings of botanas (snacks) that they keep serving when you order a drink at the restaurants, it was amazing! We were also treated to some local theatrical entertainment in the square. Our hosts were so friendly, kind, and gracious! We enjoyed a delicious breakfast (make sure you order the breakfast, you will not be sorry!) The dining room is so tastefully decorated with work of local artisans, and very interesting folk art, We were fortunate to locate the famous carver of wooden masks in Suchitlan and were able to purchase some of his work, a highlight of our trip! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and hope to return soon, hoping to take some of their tours next time! Thank you so much for a wonderful stay, you are the best p.s. that was the most comfortable bed in Mexico!
• karenmR3408XT (10/5): Would Stay Again - Comala is a small town with lots of restaurants, shopping and culture with good access to the mountainous areas - and a good choice for those wanting a closer look at the volcano or area birds. We had a comfortable 4 night stay at Casa Alvarada and would return. The beds are firm (but softer than most in Mexico), the bathrooms are new, the fan and AC worked, and the room had cable. The B&B is very professionally managed with a tranquil ambiance. Breakfast was delightful. The owner also operate Admire Mexico Tours - so it makes visiting the area super easy.
• JackMackenzie (10/5): Small but wonderful - This small, five units, hotel is two blocks from Comala Centro. As you might guess it is family owned, Mom, Dad and daughters check you in, answer questions and tend to your needs. We had one of two king size bed rooms. Basic motel room with separate bath room. Both rooms a good size. Lots of hot water, very clean. No refrigerators in our rooms, perhaps in the larger suites. Secure parking for two vehicles, lots of street parking that appeared safe to me. No bar or restaurant but wonderful courtyard with tables and chairs. We didn't use the breakfast option, preferring to be out and about but other guests spoke highly of it. Very inexpensive. Any return to Comala will be a return to Casa Alvarada.

• ellenc789 (10/5): Lovely spot - What a great place! Friendly staff, delightful setting. Beds were firm and comfy with good bedding. Nicely remodeled bathrooms. Outdoor spaces are fantastic, with hammocks and the famous hanging bed to lounge around in. Quick walk to the center, plenty of good restaurants nearby. Highly recommend!
