Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (2/5): Don't Do It - Although the staff was pleasant, the building is old and run down. The room smelled very stale, sheets were questionable and full of burn holes from cigarettes. The bathroom was in better shape but not clean around the taps.
However, we did get to enjoy some of the local wildlife in our room, including silverfish in the beds, a very large black widow that had made her home in the entrance, and an ominous looking horned beetle watched over from above.
Probably should have just slept in the vehicle. They did appear to be doing some renovations, so hopefully things will improve in the future
- Philippe (8/5): - Spacieux et bien équipé.
Supermarché accessible à pieds
- David (8/5): - Nice room. Basic. No problem.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Unsafe, Overcharging, Worn Motel - The motel is old, dingy, dirty. Ripped comforter and stained and ripped chairs. There appears to be long term residents with many bikes and other things left outside. There are signs everywhere about being recorded. The window had no locks and only a piece of wood shoved in the windowsill to keep it closed. The room smelt musty. The mattresses are so soft you sink in far if you try to sit on them. I felt quite unsafe there. They also over charged me by adding taxes and fees again to the all inclusive Hotels.com price. In the additional fees tab it also says that pets are $10/night but they wanted to charge an extra $20/night. I requested a refund of the additional amount they charged and they put it through but reversed the refund after I left. Scammy, unsafe, overcharging place. They also make you sign the form saying you’re signing for the “no smoking agreement” before they fill in the amounts so they can put any amount. Make sure to confirm your amounts before paying. I will never stay here again.
- Wayne (6/5): - Check in was friendly. Parking lot was good. Beds are old but comfortable. An older motel but some eggy has been made to keep it in repair.
- Sandra (10/5): - Easy to find, friendly staff, very clean.
- Ted (10/5): - The man who checked me in was very personable and friendly. He made me aware of nearby eating establishments, and even helped me up the stairs with my luggage when I tried to take too much at once. Great PR value there.
The room was clean and comfortable, so no complaints there.
The only issue I had - and it's really a minor one - is that the packets of shampoo provided need to be cut open. Once you're in the shower, though, that's hard to do unless you've taken a pair of scissors with you. I had to tear it open with my teeth, which was difficult. I would recommend to the hotel a bottled shampoo as an alternative.
But all and all, I would highly recommend the Imperial Motel in Grand Forks. This was my second stay in five years, and both experiences were excellent. If you're looking for a lower-priced accomodation, you could do a lot worse.
- Leonid (6/5): - It was ok for Motel
- Catherine (8/5): - Needs some basic reno’s but the room was clean, comfortable, had everything we needed. We felt welcome and looked after.
- Jeanne (8/5): Pleasant stay in Grand Forks - The room was fine- nothing fancy but had everything we needed including a mini fridge and microwave. The people running the place were outstanding. We arrived early, and he was very accommodating to allow us to check in early. He offered many suggestions to things to see and do in the area. Such a friendly person, as well as the rest of the family. For a small town, Grand Forks has many recreational and cultural options. Unfortunately, the historical sites and museums were closed(covid?), but we enjoyed the parks, scenic drive and many fine old homes and buildings. We were passing through, but I would not hesitate to stop again.
- Wayne (10/5): - Front desk staff wonderful, courteous and gave me fresh muffins. Thank you.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good location, older building, rooms clean and spacious.
- Ross (10/5): Great place to stay - Check in was quick and easy. Host was very friendly and hospitable. Place was very clean and well kept. Great location, restaurants close by. Will definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Fine little hotel to stay a night as a pass-through traveller.
The room felt a bit dated, the lighting was very harsh and sparse, I had a few insect visitors of several varieties, some stray hairs in the bed but I don’t believe it was from previous guests, rather the fella’s beard who made up the room.
The clerk was an absolutely lovely man who attended to my request for fresh linens.
All in all it was an expected level for the price and I would stay again for a short stint.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - There were a lot of long term rental tenants hanging around qith shopping carts. It made me felt slightly unsafe.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very friendly and accommodating owner.
Very close to everything with in walking distance.
But with COVID most places were closed unfortunately.
- Jo (10/5): Excellent hospitality. - Thank you, Imperial Motel for your wonderful hospitality and the delicious dinner! That fresh chapathi was yummy. The room I had is clean and tidy. The bed is very comfortable. Will certainly stay here again when driving through for work.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This motel was spotlessly clean - it was large and had all of the amenities in the room that you might need. It was close to the river and within walking distance to the pub and restaurants. There was some road noise but this did not bother us. It was pet friendly as we were travelling with out pooch. The manager was very friendly and efficient- remembered my name and provided plenty of information about the town. All in all it was very good for a small town budget friendly motel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It’s an older motel, but it is well kept and clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was very clean affordable and sunny the manager went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed second time staying and would definitely stay their again
- Minda (10/5): - The place is nice and clean. Very convenient and close to everything. The manager and his wife is very nice. I will recommend this place and stay here again.
- campers2019 (10/5): Excellent friendly comfortable place to stay - My wife and I rode into Grand Forks on a motorcycle from Manitoba in July 2020. Upon checking a few motels in town we decided on the Imperial motel and ended up having a real pleasant experience. Rooms were clean comfortable and quiet. The young family from India managing the property were very friendly and accommodating. The young lady was cooking food in the kitchen which smelled delicious and even graciously offered us some to try. We couldnt have found a better place in Grand Forks and felt so welcomed. Totally awesome experience. Great people.
- Dave (10/5): - Very friendly office manager. Was helpful with local eats and attractions.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff was super friendly and made me feel very welcome. They were helpful in getting me familiar with the area and recommending good places to eat and visit.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great bed and excellent location. Good customer service.
- SteveK (10/5): - Good location, friendly manager, clean fresh smelling room, good parking, nice to have small sitting table right outside the room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice quiet place to stay. We will definitely come back, we really enjoyed our stay.
- Ryan (10/5): - Had a reservation for a room with a queen size bed, Sunny upgraded me to a room with a king no charge, also enjoyed a movie on a big screen TV. Bed was extremely comfortable, and the Motel was close to restaurants and shopping. Owner/Sunny was really friendly and accommodating, and the room was an affordable rate. Would definitely stay again!
- Carlton (8/5): - This i obviously an older motek, bit it looks like the owner is trying to clean it up. Great if you travel with pets, as they are allowed for a fee. There wasnt a plug by the bed, and i need one for my sleep machine. They found me an extension cord so i could actually get some sleep.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Was supposed to be newly renovated from the flood . it is still very old and falling appart . the work that was done is a joke.
- denniss709 (2/5): My out of town guests extremely disappointed. Stay away - Dirty linen. Holes in towels. Manager rude and ignorant. Really spoiled what was otherwise a great visit. Got my group settled into another place ASAP but they won't forget this flea bag flop house any time soon
- Sandi (8/5): - This motel is in the perfect location for us motorcycle riders as it is walking distance to downtown with restaurants, pubs and parks. Basic but comfortable and reasonably priced. Staff are super nice. Thank you.
- Lynette (10/5): - Clean room. Reasonable rate. Could have offered tea or hot chocolate for non coffee drinkers
- John13Tacoma (2/5): Don't go - Place is maybe a 1 star. Falling apart, dirty. Booking.com send us here and they will hear back. Staying in our car might have been better. No wonder only four car add in lot. Got to be better in town.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Motel had been flooded a.m. was being worked on. Very disappointed I thought the price was way to high
- Verified traveler (4/5): Old and uncomfortable - The bed is old and creeky has a funny smell. The floor is poor quality laminate and is stained and dirty. The chairs are not suitable for a hotel the toilet seat does not fit the toilet, the baseboards are falling off the wall and the list could go.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Basic stay - NO Tv functioning. Smelly and unkempt and thread-bear. Noisy near major road traffic. Received flood damage on ground floor.
- Verified traveler (6/5): A place to put your head - If you are looking for a place to rest for the night and close to the town this is the one.
Everything is walking distance
- Beverley (6/5): Work away in mosquito ville. - Flooding in Grand Forks affected this motel as well, first floor was being dried out,we stayed on second floor. There will need to be additional fixes after this due to possibility of mold and mildew. Was close to our area of business and reduced travel time. that's why we chose it-others were fully booked or unavailable.
- L4554ODvictorh (2/5): Terrible option for businesses - We stayed at the Imperial Motel while working in Grand Forks. It was an absolutely poor choice on our part! The rooms and beds are below standards. When staying for 4 nights and I lost my key I was charged $5 for a replacement and the room was never cleaned for the duration. The towels are only changed when requested and there is no replacement toiletries unless requested. The cost was $100 a night which should have included these simple common courtesies.
- sovereigns2018 (2/5): embarrassed by children playing and running around being kids. - got all booked in, and the manager paid. only to have the hindu play games and change his mind, and refuse us a room. based on the fact that our kids were running in the empty parking lot, and burning off steam. took our money, and wouldn't return it. avoid this METH addict flop house, go anywhere but motel 99 in grand forks. two worst run motels, i've ever had the displeasure of experiencing.
- Shannon (2/5): - This hotel is out of a horror movie, complete with hooker sleeping in stairwell. The room had a very distinct odor of old cigarette smoke and dirty people. The room was filthy. The bathroom tap never stopped dripping and kept us up half the night. There was an inch of dust on everything. The beds were like sleeping on cement and I couldn't make myself even touch the pillows because they were totally stained. We did a quick bed bug search before bed which showed us a ton of filth around the bed. We slept fully dressed and my children were terrified. I paid for two nights and after the first night, packed up and left. I have stayed in some sketchy motels, but this takes the cake. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy.
- Nuzz42o (2/5): Rotting old dump - Terrible place!!!! Bad smell in the room. paint falling off in bathroom. So noisy never got to sleep shoulda just kept driving!! At least sleeping in the car is clean and doesn't cost 80$. Lots of similar reviews that I wished I'd read first
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I had booked a two room unit, and confirmed, then on arriving, was offered a king size bed for my son and I. I declined this, and was offered two double beds for 5$ more a night. I accepted. The room was fairly clean, except one very stained washcloth, that had been washed, but maybe missed. No cleaning of room for second night after we stayed the first, and I had to call room service to get clean towels the second day. Used up the one little coffee provided, and no one checked to see if I'd like another.
- 966markz (2/5): The Difference A Year Makes - I rescind my previous review. My family and I decided to stop in Grand Forks as a stopover before heading to the USA. We arrived and the initial red flag was an empty parking lot. The owner was indifferent throughout the booking process and struggled to make eye contact. Our room, while consistent with smaller community motels, was rather drab (the photo caption is not an accurate reflection of 90% of the rooms). At about 9:00pm I overheard another couple make a comment to the owner regarding the mold found in their room. This quickly intensified to homophobic slurs and profanity by the hotel owner. The couple asked to leave because they "chose not to like the room". I later saw pictures taken by this couple - mold in every portion of the hotel, dirty unmade sheets and a massive buildup of dust around the washroom fan. The owner continued to swear and yell profanities while my children were trying to sleep. My experience does not appear to be isolated based on other reviews of this motel on other websites. Other reviews indicated the hotel changed ownership in the last year and sadly this was my experience. I intend to escalate my concerns further but please heed my warning...avoid!
- jennie (4/5): disappointed - Nice picture of red chairs and wood floor was not what we received!!!!
Over priced for what we got.
Would not stay there again
- Lennox (8/5): Cheap motel with not many positives - Not all that great. You get what you pay for.
- EdS172 (6/5): Going Down Hill - We have stayed here several times through at least three owners. We thought it was getting better but our two nights stay recently made us rethink this assumption. The motel is deteriorating and upgrades that were done to the room we last stayed in had a definite DIY disaster feel. The sink backed up a couple of times - major plumbing issues are on the horizon. The furniture is battered and stained. The laminate floor (not a good idea for a motel) was poorly installed and showing considerable wear. Ventilation is poor. The beds were comfortable. I don't think we will be returning.
- meag (6/5): - Place was dirty and falling apart. When our neighbour flushed a toilet or used the shower or sink it was extremely loud.
- June (6/5): Older Hotel, cheap. - Looks and is aged, needs upgrades all over. Outdoor carpet worn, only one outside chair beside each room. Chips of paint out of desk, chip in sink, grouting round bath at its end, light bulb in lamp not working. Beds older but not too hard. Easy to find, just over bridge.
- Geri (8/5): Right Downtown - Located close to the picturesque downtown Grand Forks shops and restaurants. The price was right as it is a dated motel but comfortable and clean.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Worn out bathroom, 3 different tile types in shower, paint coming off the walls.
- CanadianRunAmok (4/5): Well, it's a bed. - If all you need is a bed, this is the place for you. I have no idea where the room in the photo provided was taken, but it was not at this hotel.
The bed won't be clean or comfortable, but it will be a bed. The room is dirty. The bed is dirty. The bathroom is full on standing water. The rooms are noisy and bright even at night; on the second floor, a red light shins through. When a transport tuck goes by, the entire building shakes. You will not get a good night's sleep here. Drive two more minutes and stay at the Ramada.
- kerusso (6/5): Overpriced for an old motel - Staff were pleasant and the parking and location was good. However the rooms are very overpriced for an old and tired hotel. Our room was fairly clean but the pillows were paper thin and the bed was average at best. I would only consider staying here again if their prices were lowered to reflect the quality of stay.
- 945og (2/5): DISGUSTING!!! STAY AWAY!!! - DO NOT stay here!! As other posters have mentioned, the place is dirty and the owner/manager is rude!!! Called to reserve and they quoted $67/night but when checking in, he said the rate was $80/night for a premium room. There was mould on the ceiling in the bathroom, dust filled fan, dirty towels (see pics). Could not stay due to allergies and the owner/manager viewed the areas of concern said that there wasn't anything wrong with the 'cleanliness' of the place and refused to refund the amount charged for a 3 night stay!! He was yelling and swearing that he would not refund the money and said to "Shut-up". He WASN'T AT ALL tolerant of 🏳️🌈couples staying in the same room with one bed!!!!!
If there was a zero or below rating, it would still be more than this place would deserve.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean.Secure Modern. Close to Groceries and restaurants.
- 2d4tnm (2/5): WILL NEVER STAY HERE - EVER!!! - Booked by phone to stay 2 nights. upon arriving we tried to open the office door as the sign said OPEN. It was locked! Should have been our first clue. About 10 minutes later the manager came who was dressed very shabbily like he had just awakened up form a nap. The grounds were dirty and there was dust and dirt throughout the stairs and hallways that led to the upstairs suites. Filthy!! The internet site that tells about this motel LIE. The pictures LIE. The pictures show the rooms looking really nice - well there wasn't one thing in our room like those pictures portrayed on their site.. They stated it has been totally remodelled. NOT so. Shabby furnishings in the room they gave us. The room was smelly like there was mould somewhere within. We left to find some lunch at a restaurant - later we wanted to go back to have a rest and opened up the beds. Believe it or not.......the beds looked as though the sheets had never even been changed from previous patrons. They were wrinkled and not tucked in whatsoever. The bed spread had just been covered over. It truly was not a place you'd want to put your head on that bed and rest. We actually thought there could be bed bugs in the bed as that's why we opened both beds up to check first. We left. Asked for our money back and we were leaving!!!! When the "manager" said "OH Madam - I can give you a good room...." I said ALL the room should be good!!! Never, Never ever stay at this place. We will never book there again. EVER. Period.
- 121MarkM121 (8/5): Clean Room near Downtown - Stayed here one night while on a solo motorcycle trip. This place is relatively well maintained. The room was clean and the mattress was okay. I liked that I could park my bike right in front of the door which makes things easy. The owner is a good guy and was very accommodating. You can tell he does his best to make a good experience for his guests. I also like that this hotel is inexpensive and located only a block from the city center. The river is located just across the street and it was nice and calming to sit alongside it while sipping on a beer.
- 537rosemarieb (2/5): Disgusting, dirty place - DO NOT STAY HERE. Please read below!
This has been where I have chosen to stop many times over the years, while driving from the west coast of Canada to Alberta. In the past, it's been not luxurious, but reliably clean and not too expensive. This year (2017), and under new ownership, the price had gone up markedly, and the room was filthy, with dried urine on the porcelain rim of the toilet, also puddled and dried on the base of the toilet in front of the bolts; the previous guest's used coffee and filter were still in the coffee maker; there were dirty splatters on the back splash of the bathroom sink; the pillows are hard and uncomfortable; the floor needed to be vacuumed AND washed; there was dust build-up on the top of the tub surround, on top of the shower, door frames, etc.; the fridge was dirty and had someone's frozen chocolate bar in the freezer, etc. etc. The price had gone from $79/night (plus tax) to $100/night (plus tax). I did mention some of the cleaning deficiencies to the new owner before I headed out for dinner, and when I returned, the base of the toilet had been minimally wiped, the dried urine on the rim of the toilet had been cleaned, and the floor had been mopped (sort of). I will NOT be going back there again. p.s. I did mention this to the new owner as my dad and I left the following morning. I should have demanded either a total or partial refund. I have read other reviews and they must have been written by the owners, or friends of the owners. Ugh, stay away!
- 562mariel (2/5): Refused to stay in filthy rooms -was denied refund - 1st room had filthy shower. Complained and was offered another room. Approved 2nd room even though it obviously had not been dusted in awhile. After owner left room, lifted toilet lid and there was feces in toilet. Loaded luggage back into car and told him we could not stay there because facilities were very unclean. He got angry with me and would not give refund because I had signed paper with credit card number, deal was closed. We found another motel down the road which was very inexpensive and very clean and nice. Paid two hotels for one night, but would rather throw money out of window than sleep in filth. Biggest regret is that I did not document with photos. Lesson learned. Don't know how this place received favourable reviews. Stay away from this place, trust me.
- 212katherinew (10/5): Good motel - We stayed here for one night. The office staff ( possibly management ) were wonderful and helpful. We had a good sleep. It was quiet and the bed was comfortable. We slept so well. They were doing construction at the motel and even that was not a bother. They have really comfortable chairs and I really liked the windows. Although it is an older motel it was nice and I would recommend it.
- A3334BFnicholasc (2/5): DO NOT stay here!!!! - It would be a mistake for anyone to stay here. If you do make the mistake be sure to check the USED mattress for bugs. I have never stayed in a worse establishment in my life and will never go back. This is a new owner as of September 2016 so you should only use reviews after this date to make your decision.
- CastlegarHockeyDad (2/5): Terrible Experience in a Disgusting Room - Was in Grand Forks for my Son's hockey tournament. Tried to book about 2 months in advance but the only rooms left in town were at the Imperial, and there's a reason.
The motel is in a great location, just a block from a great cafe, so it has potential but the room was so disgusting (see the attached pictures) that it was a horrible experience.
When I talked to the manager, explaining that I wanted to complain and would like a partial refund based on the same uploaded pictures that I showed him he called me cheap and told me that everyone wanted a refund. I can tell you that I will never stay here again and I would highly recommend others try to find accommodations elsewhere.
- Bearbait-north (6/5): Interesting guests - Stayed week of July 18, 2016 for one night. This is your basic motel; TV, fridge and a/c. The beds and bathroom were clean though the carpet really needs to go. The room next door had engineered flooring which made a considerable difference. The toilet plumbing could use some improvement and the a/c units need to be cleaned. Could also use queen beds instead of doubles. There’s a BBQ which the couple next door used to cook breakfast.
The gentleman who checked us in was certainly very friendly with a sense of homour. There were a few long terms guests and at one point in the evening, while having drinks with the neighbours, we were entertained by Johnny Cash. Okay not really him but close enough.
It was actually a nice change, albeit a bit quirky, from the typical environments of the other hotels we stayed at. Just ask for a renovated room.
- deb-cooks-great (6/5): Ok Room - I stayed one night here, and personally found it ok.
The bed was hard, I had to remove cushions from chairs to put on the bed so I could sleep. Service was good and reasonably priced. This motel is close to a restaurant and walking distance to town.
