Guest Reviews
- HILLERY (8/5): - Clean hotel with air conditioning with reasonable price.
- Rumile (6/5): - The hot and cold shower wasn’t adjusting properly. The water was either extremely hot or very cold
- Christopher (10/5): - Good location. Quiet and walkable area.
- Catherine (10/5): - This hotel was just what we needed, very central to the town of San Ignacio but still a few minute walk which provided a bit more solitude
- Gretchen (10/5): - The best and most convenient place to stay in San Ignacio! We have stayed here many times and have enjoyed each stay! Everything you need, food, shopping, and taxis, are in walking distance and the staff is amazing! They always make us feel very comfortable and at home!
- Patrick (10/5): Relaxing - I came up for the 4 of July, and I want to go swimming.
- Kenneth (10/5): - Had an amazing ti
- kelly cristina (10/5): Good location - I like my experience on the maya hotel . And , I will recommend it certainly. But the absolute difference was the guide that they had indicated for me : Mr Abe . He is a gentleman, educated guide. Thank you for your service
- Morgan (10/5): - We loved Maya Bella! Close to everything we needed, very nice property! Would definitely stay again!
- Sareen (8/5): - Hotel staff was very friendly and recommend a great place to grab a bite. Room was clean and spacious with a great working AC! Close to places to eat and very close to the San Ignacio Market
- christine (2/5): - Booked 3 rooms arrived and pool was closed for renovations. No notice that pool would be closed so tried to cancel. Hotel staff claimed we would get a refund and now hotel claiming they cannot give refund as Expedia has not contacted them and Expedia claims hotel won’t answer them. Total scam. We never stayed but rooms appear to be run down.
- Jim (8/5): Maya Bella - Even though the hotel is located downtown, it was amazingly quiet at night. We slept well. The bed was the most comfortable of the trip. Super nice people, convenient, and close to many great restaurants. I would go back there in a heartbeat. Thanks.
- Alyssa (10/5): - The staff were really helpful and friendly! We were really confortable in the room. The shower had great water pressure and felt so clean and updated. The upstairs patio was our favourite place to hang out in the shade.
The location is great, with everything you could need being within a 10 minute walk.
- Syeed (10/5): - It was very convenient, with lots of walkable food options. Room was specious and clean. Evening receptionist was very helpful with my needs. Definitely stay there for my next visit.
- Idelfonso (10/5): - Very nice room and friendly staff.
- Ryan (2/5): - Pool was closed due to a leak. Outlet in room didn't work. Bed was uncomfortable. One single drinking glass for two people. No ice machine. Loud outside. We checked out after one night and no refund or even an apology.
- Joyce (10/5): - Enjoyed our stay very much. Loved the beautiful bedspread and red sheets. Staff was friendly and wonderful! Room was clean and very comfortable. We had a car and parking was available and easy.
The only complaint is that the pool was not open and there was loud construction going on. Didn’t spend a lot of time in room. Would stay here again.
Would highly recommend.
- Jason (10/5): - If you are doing tours it is literally the best location as they are all right there. Everything you need is on the street and you have good dining options. Definitely worth the price.
- justin (10/5): - The place was amazing, definitely would stay again
- Brandy (6/5): - Beds were very uncomfortable
- John (8/5): - Good location for walking downtown! Clean! Good shower! Good covered parking! The bed was hard, this is a negative for me!
- Guy (8/5): - Location is excellent - close to bus, taxis, shopping, restaurants.
- Eileen (10/5): - Old hotel, very basic. Quiet, helpful reception, refill water bottle dispensers, coffee & bananas for breakfast a nice touch. Close to restaurants, tours, bus, taxis.
- Janet (8/5): - Great shower!
- Anthony (4/5): Pass until the property is upgraded - The good news is that the hotel is in an awesome location. Exit the front door and you are in a pedestrian only street with good food close at hand. The farmers’ market is a short walk. A must on Saturdays.
The bad news. The pool can only be entered or exited on a ladder with round rungs. In your bare feet, it is extremely painful. The pool’s tiles are literally falling apart. There is a six inch pile of tiles on the pool’s left.
Our room had no nightstands. We had to “borrow” a couple of chairs to act as nightstands.
The staff is friendly.
Overall, the owners have not paid to maintain the property. Too bad. It could be a great hotel.
- Brittany (8/5): - I had a really pleasant experience overall. Ended up staying 4 nights. The only thing that was strange was the last night I had very loud pounding on my room door at 1:30 am. I was actually frightened and after the 3rd time I opened the door to find a lady with a staff member who said I wasn’t the right person. She was banging on all of the doors on my floor. To me I can’t believe that was acceptable at that hour, makes me wonder about security. Despite that, I had a nice stay and the hotel staff were sweet and welcoming.
- Tony (10/5): Great location - Great location in the middle of downtown and close to all the restaurants and tours! If you’re looking for a place that has easy access, this is the one
- William (10/5): - The hotel is in downtown San Ignacio which was very convenient for me as I didn’t rent a car. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance. The tour company I used, Maya Walk tours, was literally a one minute walk away. Nice clean hotel with a friendly, helpful staff. Small pool to take a dip in on the hot days. No elevator so if you have mobility issues you might keep that in mind. Perfect for my stay.
- Abby (10/5): - Excellent beds, best i've ever slept in. If they see this, I wish I knew what brand of bed it is. The restaurant made our anniversary special with flowers and balloons. Great stay!
- Andrea (8/5): - Nice hotel. Basic accommodations, but comparable to those in the surrounding area. All my needs were met and I was comfortable. The pool was an added bonus.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Maya Bella was perfect for us. We loved being able to walk everywhere, the rooftop pool just steps from our room and the pretty area to relax. Staff was very courteous. Coffee and bananas were provided every morning. We would stay again!
- helen (10/5): - I would recommend this!! There was parking! (you will need a ground guide since it is very tight). The property is well maintained and clean and the AC is strong. The pool was pretty to look at but the best thing about this hotel was free clean water from the water dispenser. Breakfast is just bananas and possibly coffee but there is a coffee shop next door as well as plenty of food options. Wifi was great too! we also had a load of laundry done for roughly $10 USD
- Shelley (10/5): - Friendly staff. Great location.
- Blair (10/5): 1st time in Belize. - This was my first time in Belize and this property was great! It’s in a perfect location to book tours and experience great food in walking distance. It’s also about a 5min walk away from the bus stop. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Check in & check out took less than 3 mins. I would highly recommend this place.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect location - Can't get more in the thick of downtown than this. Great rooms, hot water, and a lovely staff. Even though parking extremely large vehicles in their lot is a risk, they spotted for me and helped me out of a tight spot. Literally and figuratively! Would definitely come back.
- Jonathan (10/5): - The ladies at the front desk allowed us to leave our luggage in the hotel for a few hours while they prepared our room. (We were super early) They also allowed us to leave our bags for about 4 hours after check-out. This allowed us to thoroughly enjoy San Ignacio. We are very grateful for this.
- Gretchen (10/5): - One of our favorite places to stay!
- John (10/5): - Old fashion decor. Quiet area. Very pleasant and helpful staff.
- Nicola (10/5): - Great location, very helpful staff, basic room but everything you need. Endless coffee/tea/bananas available in reception. Staff went above and beyond helping with itinerary changes due to tropical storm. Lots of restaurants, bars, supermarkets close by. Highly recommend this hotel.
- Gretchen (10/5): - This was our second stay and it was just as wonderful as before! Will definitely come back!
- Katarina (10/5): - Centrally located in San Ignacio - very walkable. Small breakfast spot located next to the hotel with tasty options. Rooftop pool is a plus to cool down.
- run841 (10/5): Right in town with covered parking! - Coming from BZE the hotel was easy to find in 'downtown' San Ignacio. Loved the covered parking. I felt the car was safe. The hotel/room is clean and spacious. Towels creatively sculptured on the bed. Did not hear any outside noise. Room had a refrigerator - bonus. No elevator but a helpful Leo (Leon?) carried the heaviest bag up to the room for us.
Thought the receptionist mentioned a light breakfast - it was light with just a few very ripe bananas, coffee (& Coffeemate) & hot water for tea!
The hotel is in town so park your car and walk everywhere. We did though choose to drive out of town (barely) for dinner to Booze & Branches!
One could walk to Cahal Pech but the walk would be hot, humid with a steep hill to climb!
Enjoy.
- crystalsB7674FW (10/5): Great stay at Maya Bella! - Maya Bella is a great place to stay in San Ignacio. It is right on Burns Ave, which is the 'tourist sector' of the town. So, it is within walking distance to restaurants and shops, as well as the 'bus station,' where you can catch local buses. They also offer a parking lot on site (if you have a car).
It is a safe space! The rooms are clean. The bed is comfortable. The rooms offer AC, TV, and a small fridge. Downstairs, in the lobby, they have coffee and cold water. They also offer some food for breakfast in the morning. Although I didn't use the pool, there is also a pool on the rooftop, so you can swim and overlook San Ignacio.
Thank you for making my stay great!
- Tamara (6/5): - This is a good basic hotel to stay at. It's getting a little worn out in places, but that could easily be due to lower tourism during/after COVID and then damage from Hurricane Lisa in 2022.
- SteveSchlessinger (10/5): Perfect Location - Yes, it's on the main tourist street, but the location is perfect. Two minutes walk to the bus "station" with rest rest of the downtown just a minute away. Room was clean, spacious, and quiet. Good air conditioning. Spacious bathroom with cold water. When it's 100F, hot water isn't a priority for me. Rooftop pool was refreshing. Coffee and bananas available for brekkie. Also, if you have a car, covered parking is available.
- Luwam (8/5): - All about location. Basic and decent.
- Orlando (8/5): - Location perfect.
- Trail09071441198 (10/5): Excellent- Highly Recommend - I can not express how delightful we were with our stay, the room was clean, beds was extremely comfortable I slept like a baby. Pool was great bonus on a hot day, and for the price paid and having access to the great amenities it was just awesome. Mayabella will surely be my goto hotel in San Ignacio.
- Q4891WBmattc (10/5): Great Location and Value! - For the price and location, this was a great hotel. Located right in the heart of downtown San Ignacio we were within walking distance to restaurants, bars, shopping, and the weekly farmer's market. We were also footsteps away from Caya Inland Adventures tour company, which is what we booked our ATM and Maya Temple tours through.
The room was clean, the AC worked, and they had water, coffee, and bananas in the lobby for us. We also dipped our feet in the rooftop pool, which isn't very big, but was nice, and it offered great views of San Ignacio and the surrounding mountainous area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Cool outdoor space and pool. Breakfast would have been a nice touch. The coffee was good.
- Sofia (10/5): - I only stay here, its perfect
- Megan (10/5): - Great visit!
- whites160 (10/5): Love Maya Bella! - Maya Bella Downtown is a great place to stay in the heart of San Ignacio. Affordable and excellent customer care and service. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. Pool and a/c are a big plus. The location is perfect. I highly recommend staying at Maya Bella.
- Andrew (10/5): Kind, helpful staff - Convenient, comfortable stay in San Ignacio. We had a tricky time with a family member falling ill during our stay on a public holiday. Cesar and team helped find an additional room to help our circumstances as well as guide for a doctor available to help with meds. All very kind, helpful staff, thank you! Ps: lots of conveniently located electrical outlets also a big plus.
- Sandra (6/5): - I love the pool, the building are well kept, the only problem I had was my bed was too hard and I was unable to get a good night rest. I did ask about a softer mattress but the hotel was unable to accommodate me.
- Amber (10/5): - Maya Bella allowed us a comfortable jumping off point to walk around San Ignacio and explore. The staff was so helpful and Cesar was amazing.
- Ivan (10/5): - I love that the staff had fresh coffee brewed by 5am every morning. And very good and strong coffee! When you head out for a tour at 7am you'll thank them every time!
The rooftop balconies are amazing for hanging out when you've need a break from your room's AC.
A perfect stay! Thank you Maya Bella!
- Leigh (10/5): - Old world feel.
- mcagun (4/5): Not worth the money - When we arrived we were allocated a room on the ground floor (L2). We immediately asked for another doubke room, but non was available. The room is nowhere like what is described and nothing like the pictures on the website. The room was very small with the bed up against a wall, so one of us had to exit, either over the top of the other or via the bottom of the bed, only one desk type chair and a small shelf like table. On entry the linen was stained so needed to ask for it to be changed. The TV remote controller did not work properly. This room is next to the parking, 2:30am drunk people arriving very noisy. Room is very dated and tired
This room is definitely not worth the $75USD a night we paid
- Patricia (10/5): - The staff were friendly and eager to accommodate. Cesar was exceptional, went above and beyond to assist us. Great place, great location!
- Josef (10/5): Good Location - Bananas, coffee, water for free; nice Pool on the sunny side, good Location
- Terry (10/5): - This property is centrally located in San Ignacio. 3 very good restaurants within a couple of minute walk. Swimming pool on the roof is really great on a hot day. This was our second stay here and we would definitely go back.
- Carlo Alberto (8/5): - Good property, near a good selection of restaurants, perfect for day trips from San Ignacio.
- Crystalene (8/5): - It a decent place to stay. And they had simple but sensible rules to help keep everyone safe.
- Ali (10/5): - Good option compared to other hotels around. Spacious room and great staff.
- Aleisha (8/5): - This was the perfect location for us downtown San Ignacio. We had a vehicle, so the fact they had a parking lot was a big selling factor for us. There is only 6 or 7 spots, but we never had to park elsewhere.
There’s coffee made in the morning in the lobby, the option for tea, and fresh bananas which we enjoyed. Also water stations in the lobby to refill your water bottles.
The hotel is also able to do your laundry if needed and you’re a backpacker like we were.
Cost was average compared to other places in the area.
Roof top patio area and pool was a nice area to sit and relax.
There’s tons of good restaurants within walking distance. And several day trip tour businesses just down the street.
- Dylan (8/5): - Great place right in downtown the bed was the only feature in the room we were not happy with. Everything else was great!
- Mike (8/5): Great location in the center of San Ignacio - When rating hotels you have to keep in mind that everything is relative. The Maya Bella is not a resort. It is a conveniently located hotel in the center of town with convenient parking on the bottom level of the hotel and 24 hour front desk personnel. It's secure, convenient and comfortable.
- Gadis (8/5): - I booked the hotel for my son. The people are friendly and checking in was smooth. However, the room that he had was near the garage, it was basic.
- Nikolay (10/5): - Very good
- tina (8/5): - The parking garage was very, very tight for a larger vehicle. Coffee in morning was limited but good when it was available. Water was always available to fill your own water bottles. Bed was soft, room, clean, pool wonderful! Would stay again.
- Sarah (10/5): - Just the perfect sized place to enjoy quiet time right on the beach, with excellent staff and thoughtful touches throughout. Great value for a tourist resort area.
- Esmeralda (8/5): - The location of the hotel is easy to get around the city.
- Richard (10/5): - It’s the middle of town. Everything is right there. The pool and rooftop were nice at the end of the tours. The room was good. Ac, hot water. Nice, new, large.
- AsiatravelABC (8/5): Great place to stay - We moved here from a different guesthouse because we didn't feel safe there and this hotel was exactly what we needed at the time. Felt safe here and there is a 24/7 reception. Right in the centre of town. Has a small pool on the roof which is great fun.
They also have coffee and bananas which are complimentary in reception.
- Nailea (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay. Loved that it is located at the center of town easy to access restaurants and shops
- Robert (10/5): - Nice location right in town.
- Todd (6/5): It’s all about the sleeping conditions - The room looked immaculate, and the service was great, but our pillowcases smelled musky so either they were dirty or way too much detergent was used.
- marianne (10/5): - I had a spacious room on the second floor, booked 4 nights Sunday to Thursday end of March 2023. Burns avenue was not busy, very quiet, lots of restaurants were not open Sunday and Monday. Very easy to book excursions for Tikal and the Caves directly on Burns Avenue, I recommend booking with Sergio at Explore Inland Tours. Hotel is walking distance from Green Iguana Conservation Project, the chocolate workshop and Maya ruins Cahal Pech (to of the hill).
Staff very friendly, pool is always clean and in good condition, great to relax after a hot day. Hotel provides pool towels at reception. Bed and pillows are comfortable, AC works like a charm. Safe area, loved it.
- Marla (10/5): - Centrally located between several good restaurants, the market, tour companies and Cahal Pech
- 858jets (8/5): Perfect location of a very nice hotel - We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel after reading some not very good reviews. The hotel has the most perfect location. The rooms are spotless, spacious and quiet. The air conditioning works perfectly well. The bathrooms are very clean and obviously recently renovated. All blankets, sheets and towels smelled fresh and were changed daily by request. There was coffee and fresh fruit every morning in the lobby. The staff was wonderful, helpful and friendly. The only downside was the absence of closets, but there was a rack with hangers and several big shelves, so we didn't miss the closet space much. The hotel offered very good service but didn't break the bank.
We will definitely recommend this hotel!
- Ken (8/5): - Property was close to restaurants and tour operators
- Alan (10/5): - The staff was excellent, the hotel was very clean. The housekeepers were very good. Wish the tv would be a little louder, but the quiet and solitude there was great
- Richard (8/5): -
This is a nice medium priced hotel. Some of the rooms are better than others but the location is great and the staff quite helpful.
- Linda (8/5): - Nice to have the upper deck with pool to cool off and relax
Location was downtown near restaurants
- Suzanne (10/5): - On site parking, in town so walking distance to shopping & dining. Coffee/Hot tea in the lobby.
- Terry (10/5): - We really liked our staff at this hotel. Staff were great and the location is really good.
- Douglas (8/5): - Very close to our tour office and nice restaurants
- Dane (10/5): - Coffee and bananas in the morning.
- Amy (10/5): - This is excellently located with many restaurants in the vicinity. The hotel is very clean and neat and quiet. Excellent value for money.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Location and amenities - Beautiful city and the central location was amazing and easily walkable. The staff were great and the room was so comfortable!
- Liang (8/5): - Good location and nice staff. Hot water is very good! Room is spacious and clean.
- Elizabeth (8/5): - Lovely staff. Location was great. No fridge as promised, one of the lights was out due to electrical issue and the hotel could use an upgrade for the money. Nice to have the pool and parking, for sure!
- Eiesha (8/5): - Spacious room and soft bedding. The location cant be beat since it is right downtown. The only issue for me was the AC smelled like strong mildew when I turned it on, to the point I had to turn it off so I wouldnt get sick. I would recommend management schedule the AC unit filters and blowers to be cleaned. But other than that, it is a decent stay.
- Kris (8/5): - Great location friedly and helpfull
- Linda (8/5): - The staff at Maya Bella were so helpful in directing us to good local restaurants and sights close to the hotel. They also helped us connect with a local independent driver who was so helpful, upfront about expenses, and also arranged our sidetrip to Guatemala. The hotel itself is not fancy but took care of our needs quite well.
- Erikas (10/5): - Jolly good
- Melissa (8/5): - Great staff, clean rooms, quiet, nice pool and rooftop deck
- Delroy (6/5): - The property is in a great downtown area, however some upkeep and improvements are needed. The sink was clogged and blinds are needed for the windows as light passes through the curtains. I could also see into the property next door and suspect they could see into my room as well. I could also hear the occupants in the adjoining rooms.
- barbara (10/5): - Rooftop pool was nice!
