Guest Reviews
- Camila (10/5): - El lugar precioso, desayuno y cena muy rico
- Inaí (7/5): - The free coffee and cocoa all day is very nice It’s really far away, and even though we prepared for it beforehand, it’s still good to say it again. The road is very rocky and it’s 70 thousand pesos to get the 4wheel to minca. So if you’re with a lot of luggage and not so much money I recommend to stay somewhere else.
- Viloria (8/5): - El paisaje, demasiado hermoso.
A keilys e a mãe preparam refeições deliciosas.

- Jelmer (9/5): Amazing location, nice swimming pool, recommend al lot! - The calm surroundings! Kitchen could be cleaner
- Danielle (10/5): Amazing location, amazing birds - It was an amazing property. So many birds, nice pool. They upgraded us for free and we had an amazing view. The woman who was cooking and checked us in was really lovely.
Free drinking water, kakao and coffee. Free breakfast and food was nice and reasonably priced. 25k per plate for dinner.
The walk upto the finca took about 45mins depending on bags etc. Wasn't too steep but definitely some hills. Cool fresh juice and sweet treat cafe thing with a lookout on the way too. The bathroom wasn't super clean but not bad!

- Carranza (8/5): - Personal amable e instalaciones cómodas La piscina no estaba en buen estado
- Ana Carolina (10/5): - La comidas, excelente sazón
- Conall (9/5): - Everything Shower was a bit faulty, had smoke coming out of the head which was a bit worrying

- Evelyne (8/5): -
- hatimber (10/5): - The view and the Cacao Nothing
- Franziska (9/5): -
- Inesss8 (6/5): - We liked the tranquility and the array of birds around the finca. We were so much looking forward to go there, but were sooo dissapointed. The place is very rustic/basic and worn out. Very hard beds, no mosquito net - had to ask twice to get it. Syntetic towels, impossible to wipe us.
No thanks or goodbye at departure.
- Julien (8/5): -
- Jiri (9/5): A great stay at a coffee finca - It was a very nice place to stay, relax, take a farm tour or do things independently. I stayed in a 4-bed dorm with only one more guest, so no problems with space. Towel and mosquito net were provided, there was a fan. A simple breakfast a well as free coffee and cocoa were included too, price was very affordable. Nothing I could think of.
- Valentina (10/5): -
- Laura (5/5): - -the views are amazing
-great free coffee and cacao
-friendly staff -no hot water
-shower head was not working properly (water spraying everywhere)
-bathroom not clean (mold, dirt)
-coffee tour led by short term volunteers (there for 1 week) not the authentic, informative experience I was expecting
-no variety of food - expected diverse meals with fresh farm produce instead it you’re just getting basics (arepa, fries, rice, egg, apple, chicken - that’s it no more veggies or fruit)
-pool is visible dirty on the floor and more greenish colour
- James (2/5): -

- Léa (5/5): -
- Guest (7/5): -
- Tess (7/5): - Cadre magnifique
- Jay (10/5): Exceptional - Loved this accommodation so much. It was beautiful and quiet. We had the room upstairs at the end and it was the biggest and most beautiful room we’ve had in months of travel (photos aren’t updated on booking.com so the rooms actually look a lot better now compared to photos) It’s a bit far from town, about 40 minute walk. So for dinners you would probably want to eat at the accommodation. We did this a few times and then bought food in town to eat later for dinner for a few other nights. We probably could have gone into town for dinner but you don’t want to miss the sunsets here!!
- G (9/5): Great nature and friendly staff, well worth the long walk up the mountain. - Location is a bit far from Minca town, but we walked up the mountain path enjoying the nature and great views. A mototaxi or car is also possible. The staff at San Rafael is super friendly. Facilities are a bit basic, but everything you need is there and staff are very helpful. Waking up very early and watching birds zooming around the pool was well worth it. The road isn’t really a road, but many of the roads here are unpaved. It functions though. While walking, it only added to the adventure.
- Emma (10/5): Beautiful, peaceful stay in Minca - Our stay at San Rafael was our favourite in Colombia. The Finca is so peaceful, with lots of different animals and birds - it's the perfect place to relax and unwind in nature. There is coffee and hot chocolate available 24/7 which is a really nice touch. Breakfast was lovely and the staff were friendly and welcoming. We loved our room too - it was really spacious and airy. No negatives but you probably will need a jeep or moto taxi to get to the Finca if you have a heavy backpack or suitcase.
- Jonathan (4/5): Beautiful nature, kind staff, but inappropriate manager. - What stood out was the location with the nature in the mountain.
I also thought the staff where excellent, super friendly, always greeting me with a smile. The volounteer was also super kind and social, always open to have a chat when he wasn't working. The manager was very drunk the first night. He said some very disturbing and inappropriate things about his own staff. It was both sexual in nature as well as racist. It was something that made me very uncomfortable. It was clear that the rest of the staff were as uncomfortable as I was.
I also asked the manager about the tryck to Ciudad Perdida which I was very interested in. He talked with a motorcycle driver and said the driver could take me there for a certain price. The next day I asked him to call the driver to ask him to pick me up. I then had to go to the bathroom. While sitting there, I overheard his conversation with the volounteer where he was saying that it was not possible to do it, but that there was a tour there for 400USD. He then started basically laughing, saying that "He will never be able to afford it. He will never accept it hahaha".
In the end, I did go to Ciudad Perdida through a tour group. I would even happily do it again, but I will never stay at this place again after this.
- Evie (10/5): We loved it!!! We had such a relaxing time 🧘♀️ - Finca San Rafael is located in such a peaceful spot 🌿🌺. Surrounded by nature and with an abundance of cacao, it’s the perfect place to unwind. Not to mention the accommodating staff and the incredible sunsets 🌅
- Gerlach (7/5): Lovely, laid back weekend stay. - Location! It’s a real escape into the Minca mountains! The finca ‘has seen its best times’ somehow.
- Ondrej (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful surroundings, absolutely magical sunset. The staff was also extremely nice, helpful, and friendly. I felt at home. Especially the main señora - she always made sure that everything ran smoothly! Special place with special people.
- Danny (7/5): Started bad, ended great. - The amazing views. Hummingbirds everywhere. And the free upgrade. We were met with a young and very annoyed host. I didn't feel like he liked me being there at all. Until Manfred showed up and made us feel very welcome. He also immediately started to fix all of the neglected things like the pool.
- Michelle (8/5): Very good - Fun to ride on a motobike to get there. We originally thought we'd walk but with our backpacks it was easier on a motorbike. We did walk back and it takes about 40 mins to Minca town.
Stunning location in the cloud forest. There are a constant stream of birds in the trees surrounding the finca - toucans , humming birds plus a variety of coloured birds. It was so peaceful to just sit near the pool and take in the serenity of the place. You can hike 25 mins from the property to a viewpoint which although very steep is worth it.
You can buy water and beer at the finca plus your evening meal ( £5 equivalent) . Breakfast was included in the rate. Cocoa and coffee were readily available throughout the day and free. Take your mosquito repellent as they were vicious! Don't let that put you off going though!
- Jacqueline (10/5): Exceptional -
- Taggart (9/5): Lovely place with lovely people 😉 - Fantastic
- Jade (10/5): Exceptional -
- Valerie (10/5): Exceptional - One of our favorite place in Colombia.
The staff was the sweetest and felt like family.
The room are so beautiful and clean with amazing views and balcony. The homemade food was out of this world. It truly felt like a retreat in The jungle. We regretted not staying longer. Absolutely perfect stay! Thank you Nelson, Michael and all the team for making this stay really unique.
- Heather (10/5): It was very comfortable and peaceful - It was very peaceful. Wonderful sunsets, friendly staff.
- Luke (7/5): Good -
- Monika (9/5): Superb - Amazing place in a great location, but only for people, who are looking for nature, outside of Minca. Very helpful and hospitable Nelson.
- Heather (9/5): Superb - There is free coffee and chocolate all day, food if you want it, amazing views and walking paths from the door. The staff are friendly and helpful. The walk up the hill is not too much and there is a cafe half way there
- Matthieu (6/5): Pleasant - The location is amazing , up in the mountains it's very calm and peaceful. The dorms are comfortable and clean. The cacao tour was a really bad experience for me, I guess it's because i was alone with the guide, but the tour was about 20 minutes (supposed to be 40-50 minutes) , the guide was answering message on his phone, he even skip some part of the tour ( because i saw the tour he did with other people).
So if you are alone , I really DON'T recommand this tour !
- Micol (8/5): Nice located but odd hostel - The hostel is in nature, with many birds and a walk to a mirador at 25 minutes walk. For the other walks you'll have to go through Minca first (like pozo azul and the other cascadas). Lots of friendly dogs and cats. Nice breakkie The hostel Is great for retreating, but it's not cosy. Weird vibe from staff (who anyway is kind).
Meals are very small and at set time but well priced at 20k (dec.2024). Don't rely on the time of meals if you're planning a next visit as they're quite loose (breakfast anytime between 7 and 9). I was there in full season but I was the only person in the hostel.
- Francine (4/5): I would not return. - Location is nice, situated in nature with a beautiful view from pool area. In my room there was a window above the door with bright lights outside all night. I asked to switch it off, but it did not happen. Plus they asked me to pay upfront on arrival and when I needed to leave early with good reason ( I only have spent one night), the owner didn’t want to give me a (partial) refund.
- Katie (9/5): Superb - An absolutely blissful stay at Finca San Rafael. The view was incredible and the sunsets even better. The stay were lovely and so helpful, the food was cheap and delicious. Would 100% recommend this stay to anyone. We did the coffee tour and very much enjoyed learning about the process and of course the free coffee :)
- Milne (8/5): Quirky hostel in the clouds - Absolutely beautiful view. Right up in the clouds and fully submerged in the jungle. Good wholesome home cooked food. No WiFi but this made for a sociable experience rather than everyone being screen zombies A good 40 minute walk from town or a motorbike ride is fine. Would be useful to have a menu available
- Jenifer (8/5): Very good -
- Karolina (8/5): Very good -
- Anouk (10/5): Exceptional - The cacao and the coffee. How friendly everyone was. The view. The swimming pool. Nothing
- Rhian (10/5): Exceptional - This place is perfect if you want to spend time on an actual working coffee and cacao finca, far away from the town with amazing views. The people living and working there are so nice. Unlimited coffee and cacao provided all day. Access to a lovely cool fresh water swimming pool overlooking the green hills, walking trails through the finca to a mirador, lots of nice cats and dogs. I loved sitting looking into the trees and watching hummingbirds in the mornings... and afternoons :) I had a wonderful, peaceful time here.
- M (8/5): Very good - Very good breakfast, very nice place and and welcoming staff, coffee and chocolate for free The tour wasn't included in the stay
- Jennifer (8/5): Very good - Beautiful place surrounded by nature! Mosquitos
- Beatrix (8/5): Very good - So much peace around. It is in the middle of nature. Surroundings are breathtaking. Staff was very nice. Breakfast very tasty. Room could be better (we had the cheapest one). Only cold water in the shower.
- Kathryn (10/5): Exceptional - A beautiful, peaceful place to stay up in the sierra nevada, but only 10 mins by mototaxi from Minca. The views from the balcony are incredible. It's a little piece of paradise. The bedroom is really spacious and there's a hammock and chairs to relax in on the balcony. The staff are really friendly but only speak spanish. We got by though with very little spanish. There are beautiful walks in the forest from the finca, including a walk up to a mirador where we watched the sun set. Nothing
- Gino (8/5): Very good -
- Caitlin (10/5): Exceptional - We really enjoyed our stay here. We got the room on the second floor, overlooking the pool and the view from our windows was amazing. The room itself exceeded our expectations, it was huge and we had our own hammock and seating area outside too. The property is out of the town and takes about 40 minutes to walk (we only walked into town as walking the other way would all be uphill). It’s really easy to get a moto taxi from the centre of town though, it costs 15000 per person. You can eat at the property, although they don’t seem to have a menu, the food was decent though and a reasonable price. Free coffee and hot chocolate is available all day. We really enjoyed hanging out with their cute pets too who were all really lovely. Would definitely recommend staying here. More clarity around food options would be good, especially for those who don’t speak fluent Spanish. Breakfast is provided but they don’t have any food options written down so it was sometimes difficult to catch what the options were when spoken in fast Spanish.
- Martin (9/5): Superb -
- Jhon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vallejo (8/5): Very good -
- Ondrej (10/5): Exceptional - Very special stay, one of the best ones in Colombia. The vibe of the place, nature, early morning birds, our room with the view (double deluxe room), everything was exceptional.
- Kristina (9/5): Superb - I loved the sunrises and the coffee and cacao that were always available. The coffee tour was great. The rooms are a bit old and uncomfortable.
- Barbara (10/5): It’s a wonderful place to stay and my coffee, cocoa tour was so pleasant and low-key. A work stay staff person spoke Eng - Beautiful location very peaceful and quiet eco-friendly.
- Russell (8/5): Recommended. - Lovely location - walkable or take a Moto from centre. Dorm has lockers for small bags, a fan, mosquito nets and is spacious. Nice breakfast. Lunch and evening meal available, plus beers. Free filtered water. Good wi-fi. Pool, outside seating, free coffee/chocolate!
A nice place. Dorm was warm even with fan.
- Abu (10/5): It was unique experience. - Room was 2nd floor, the sunset from the balcony was gorgeousl. The sounds of the birds was musical and uplifting. The breakfast was homey feel and natural, and it felt like family feeding you. I loved and I will come back. The flies which is probably normal around that area and probably the time of the year.
- Wynde (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marcell (10/5): Wonderful place on the hill, 40 minutes walk from Minca. - Very nice atmosphere. The swimming pool was clean and maintained. I saw toucans. It was calm especially in the evenings. Most of the facilities were very simple, but for this price… but at the end of the day there was everything what matters, (except WiFi, that could be nice to have in 2024, but I knew that there won’t be, and for 2 days, it is manageable). The communication was a bit difficult, but a lovely woman from India who has volunteered there helped a lot (also she held the English finca tour which was great). The rest of the staff doesn’t speak English but every important thing was manageable.
- Edoardo (9/5): Super nice - Amazing view, nice Pool, the coffee and cacao plantation was very interesting.
- Alexander (7/5): Nice property with dissapointing service - The place is nice, very quiet and offers a pool with a great view. The rooms are spacious and even had a table, chairs and shelfs for your stuff. There was free coffee and kakao to drink available all day.
We did the coffee and kokoa tour (which was the reason why we choose this property) which was really nice - it was done by a volunteer and he did a really good job (when we did the tour he was already doing that for almost a months - so he definitely was prepared).
The location of the property is about 30 to 40 minutes away from downtown by walking which offers the chance to also easily walk to town - arriving with luggage is a hard walk though so you might take a Motortaxi for that. On arrival we didn't get any information about coffee/kakao, breakfast or dinner options, we were just taken to our room without any talking - did not really make us feel very welcome. Our spanish is not great, but good enough to usually understand relevant information - but they did not try anyway.
One evening we decided to have dinner at the property as reviews suggest it is very good. As the information in the room stated you need to order one hour in advanced and kitchen is open from 5 to 7. We ordered two meals at 5 and sat in the restaurant area to wait for dinner which was only served at half past 7 - so we sat there waiting for 2,5 hours (instead of one) and no one even bothered telling us it would take longer. The vegetarian option was plain rice, potatoe, some fries and a fried egg with a very small side salad (The non vegi option had pork or chicken to choose instead of the egg and had a tasty dip with it). Needless to say you end up dissapointed waiting for a bunch of carbohydrates for 2,5 hours.
They could definitely improve a lot in having their staff communicate. The staff didn't speak any english, but then it would be great to make an effort to speak slow and easy spanish to help guest not fluent in spanish understand better.
So if you just want a beautyful place to stay and not have anyone talking to you this is the place to be.
- Sergio (10/5): Our stay at Finca San Rafael was absolutely incredible, relaxing and magical! It is a place where the magical realism of - Everything! It’s amazing That I couldn’t stay longer! 😔
- Pietro (8/5): Very good -
- Pia (7/5): Good -
