Guest Reviews
- Maureen (10/5): - Transportation to/from airport and car rental on site.
We could walk all over town from the hotel.
- Donald (8/5): - Very basic
- Madline (10/5): -
- Catalina (7/5): - Location, beds. Bathroom and fridge weren’t properly clean. Pet fee is crazy $50 highest I’ve ever payed anywhere
- johnoY6956HM (2/5): BATES MOTEL EXPERIENCE.... - All full in town busy this place had a room they loved my dog and all seemed well got settled in and was checking my internet and was not connected with their password. I called the manager and he said he would be right down? Well he came with his brother and he brought his computer and started doing some stuff then he lined up with mine and my computer started glitching I grabbed my computer shut it off and told him to leave... his brother the manager had left earlier.... I was road weary and this was a real shock to me that had happened... I called the Haines police and a very nice officer came in and took my statement.... Then he took the managers.. They explained to the officer that his brother was a computer expert and was just checking my system ..... ya right I saw the download in front of me..... I hope this helps someone to never just trust anyone with your computer..... A motel should be a safe place where either the password and internet is working never should someone be put in that situation...I am so glad I called the police ... this was not a good review... be safe the motel either has a working password or not...never give access to a stranger...
- Arianna (10/5): -
- Daniel (8/5): Good value. Friendly staff. -
- C (9/5): - The rooms were quiet overall, but the walls are thin. The view is wonderful and plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy the harbor. The hotel is in a good, safe location and we could walk to all of the stores and local sightseeing places. The breakfast was good and we would definitely stay there again, if we ever come back to that area.
- Charles (5/5): -
- Julie (5/5): Wouldn't stay here again unless the room was cheaper. - Staff was extra helpful & friendly. Room was very clean. Nice toiletries. Beautiful view & nice deck. Laundry facilities. Price was WAY too high!! Breakfast was disappointing for the price we paid!! Room was WAY too hot!!
- Reece (10/5): -
- Don (10/5): -
- Tammy (7/5): Great location and view but need Better communication - Great location. Friendly staff When we arrived office was closed which was fair enough but there was no way to contact them as they hadn’t sent previous instructions and the wall phone that you were supposed to use to contact them was out of service.
- Sophie (10/5): -
- Christie (9/5): Wonderful and great location - Location was great and near the ferry. It was also close to town and could walk to all the places versus having to drive. Also enjoyed the room and comfortable bed that was provided. Would happily stay again. I really enjoyed the place.

Großes, sehr sauberes komfortables Zimmer mit Meerblick. Minimales Frühstück.
- Dieter (7/5): -
- Dan (9/5): - Very comfortable bed
- Verda (10/5): - The staff was very nice and informative. Will stay next tine go on ferry
- Elwyn (8/5): - Because the hotel sign was not lit and it was dark, it was different to find it
- Agnė (10/5): - We were greeted by Greg, the owner, with such great hospitality, he upgraded our room just because “who wants a street view when you can have a sea view” :) Great location, beautiful views, comfy rooms, absolutely best staff :)
- Kelly (8/5): Easy hotel to access when traveling on the AMHS - We traveled in by AMHS, moving back to Alaska, and the hotel was the perfect stop to spend the night before traveling on. Easy after-hours check-in, room was quiet, clean and comfortable. Older hotel, could use some updating, but it was clean and comfortable. Very pricey, most expensive hotel on our trip, but it's Haines, and when demand exceeds supply, you can charge what you want. Breakfast is only continental and doesn't start until 7:15 so we didn't stay and hit the road.
- Blaine (10/5): - Easy access, courteous staff checked in late after hours.
- Jean luc (8/5): -
- Xin (8/5): - Great location and view!
- Judit (8/5): -
- Sandra (8/5): central place to stay to get ferry - it was good in that we hired a car from the motel. they came to fetch us from the ferry .
The cars were in really good condition.
The room was a typical motel room , clean, comfort and we had a nice view over the harbour.
The breakfast offered more than we expected such as ,pastries, cereal, boiled eggs, toast fruit and coffee and tea .
They dropped us back at ferry .
The female staff at reception was really lovely. it was a close walk to the IGA supermarket to get any supplies needed. artificial room scent
- Sheila (8/5): - Location, friendliness and helpfulness of staff. The help yourself breakfast.
- Gene (8/5): - Great view of the mountains and water!
- Laura (10/5): - Leanne was incredibly helpful and patient with a booking issue
- rwH1935QF (10/5): great experience - excellent experience, quiet, very clean rooms; it may be an "older" property BUT very well maintained
just a suggestion - update the shower heads (this is not a negative; it would a relatively low cost enhancement)
- Jim (10/5): - This is a great example of an older preperty, which the owners have taken great pride in upgrading and making it the best over night stay in all of Haines Alaska. This is the first ice machine in a hotel that I have seen in all of Alaska. Actual room service offered. Not just saying you have wifi and giving you a password, but actually providing workable technology that has bandwidth to allow you great connections. This hotel stands above when it comes to customer service. Excellent check in, great service, helping guests know the local area, real pride shown here, they are an "11". Jim Groth
- K1477TAdonalds (10/5): Great stay with captains cove - This place is great. 2 nd year I stayed there. Staff is beyond great. Last year when the Alaska state fair was going on and you could not find a room they managed to squeeze me in. Breakfast is great and still eating some here on the Alaska marine. Ferry. I got a car 🚗 rental there and no issues. Was picked up at the ferry quickly. If the owner decides to sell u better snatch it up and keep a room facing the water. I’d put a telescope up there for sure. Hoping this is not my last trip here but if it’s in Haines im staying at Captains Choice. You will be very happy for sure. Those who are not happy would be unhappy on a 7 day cruise
- NWtraveler969 (10/5): Good place - Helpful and cheerful shuttle service. Comfortable beds. Good breakfast. Quiet, well-run place. We rented a car from them for a day and it was expensive but good to visit the Bald Eagle preserve about 20 miles out of town (didn't see any there, maybe the road construction scared them away) and Lake Chilkat where we did see bald eagles but no bears in early July, too soon for the salmon so no bears.
- Denis (8/5): - La personne à l'accueil était très charmante et a pu nous donner la chambre que nous souhaitions. Un petit déjeuner un peu plus étoffé serait apprécié
- Companion25252279182 (8/5): Would recommend - We came in from Skagway. We had a wonderful evening doing a little tailgating. The viewing deck was just the tonic for a busy few travel days The view was wonderful. The room was so clean, comfortable and had a wonderful view of the bay. It was a very relaxing stop over on our way back to Whitehorse.
- John (9/5): Unexpected treasure - The staff were very welcoming and the views from the deck are awesome. The condition of property was excellent....there has been some careful thought and attention to the upkeep of hotel Not too many places to dine in town.
- Amanda (9/5): Superb -
- Kathleen (10/5): - The staff was amazingly accommodating and helpful. The location was ideal. We could walk to anything in town. Although the property was older, they worked hard to keep it up.
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (8/5): Arrived from Juneau and took LYFT to hotel - Staff was friendly. Gave us a ride to the ferry terminal. Recommended the Bamboo Restaurant and it took us over an hour to get our meal.
- Alastair (8/5): - Great view of the harbour, ocean inlet
- Phillip (10/5): - Easy to find, safe parking, nice view... The staff was what makes a great review!
- Lawrence (7/5): Beautiful view, just need to fix the heater - Beautiful view of the water Heater made terrible sounds throughout the night

- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Janice (9/5): Our great stay - Very accommodating I was on crutches No designated parking in front of room
- Josefine (10/5): Exceptional - Great view, great location. Breakfast was good. Would stay here again The bathroom door was hard to close without waking everyone up. I wish less plastic would be used for breakfast. Otherwise, everything else was great.
- Monika (6/5): - Not clean, its an old building so it smells funcky.
The view from the room was beautiful.
- Deborah (10/5): - The view of the lake is spectacular. Old-style campy motel, totally suites Haines. A chain hotel would be an aberration here.
- Lynne (9/5): Superb -
- Shull (8/5): Would recommend stay - The view was great, quiet, clean with breakfast. They let us stay until noon to catch the ferry. Needs updated.
- Carter (10/5): - Good
- Joseph (9/5): Superb - The room decor was unexpected! Real wood furniture; not cheap pressboard
- Robert (10/5): Captains Choice Haines Alaska - It was a great place for a layover, staff were friendly and the room pleasant and clean.
Food, drink and shopping were only minutes away and easily accessible.
My only complaint was I had reserved the room with the hot tub, but it was down for maintenance.

- Peter (7/5): Good - Average standard, but ok. The room was a bit worn out. It was nice that breakfast was served in the hotel. Very friendly staff. Parking possible close to the room despite construction site.
- Anita (7/5): Good - The breakfast was satisfactory I did not like the location of my room
- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional -

- Therese (10/5): - A relaxing stop with by views of soaring eagles
- Lee (10/5): - Attractive; in the middle of town; easy walking to bay.
- David (7/5): Met expectations - Convenient Loud vent fans in adjoining rooms
- Ann (10/5): - Very pleasant reception staff , clean, comfortable room . Good breakfast choices
- Lee (10/5): - Bathroom did not have grab bars for us older folks who may be unsteady on our feet.
- Lynda (10/5): - Beautiful location with spectacular views. Comfortable, spacious rooms. Great that breakfast was included.
Very friendly staff.
- Ingrid (10/5): - very friendly staff clean and convenient to downtown services
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Anna (3/5): I am almost 70 years old, and I have stayed at this hotel in the past. But I would never recommend it to my worst enemy. - The refrigerator was off, so was questionable about using my refrigerated foods. The electrical strip under the TV did not work, could not use it to charge my iPad and phone, which I didn’t notice until the morning. The sink was clogged. There was a leak behind the toilet. The Internet did not work for 20 hours. I would not recommend this hotel to anybody. They never give me the Internet password. The TV did not work. The electrical strap that I was using to quote “charge my iPhone and iPad did not work. The sink was clogged the bath leaked.
- Tim (10/5): - The gentleman who was in charge of the pick up service was SUPER nice, gave me a couple rides and helpful suggestions around the town
- Nicolette (10/5): Highly recommend for anyone - Quiet , clean and very relaxing , staff was so helpful with anything we needed Nothing!
- Henk-jan (8/5): We really enjoyed this motel - Friendly staff, clean and beautiful view
- delena (8/5): - was fine
- Glen (9/5): While in Haines stay at the captain’s Choice Hotel, can’t go wrong… - High beds, very comfortable, room gave a sort of a cabin type of room. Big tv, wi-fi worked well. If I had know more as to what the place like, we would driven right through Haines Juction to Haines , Alaska and stay here a few days instead of overnight. Then we could see a bit more of the area. We were here just overnight, and then catching the Ferry from Haines to Skagway the next day. So far I can’t think of anything
- Ilene (10/5): - Beautiful view and friendly staff. Convenient to town. Cars available to rent.
- Jason (9/5): Family friendly ; so cozy. - More than a simple continental breakfast, way more options. Good selection. Staff were exceptionally friendly.
Location fantastic, both for views & walking about town. Coffee could be much stronger !
