- Linda (10/5): Happy we stayed - From the outside we weren't sure we would like this hotel, but it was a very good experience. Our room on the top floor was clean and, although we had a problem with hot water for the shower, the staff promptly fixed it. It was a cool-funky room right across the Street for Sabana Park. Breakfast was very good and the price was also. We booked for 2 nights, but took a taxi to the airport at 10:00pm so didn't stay over for both, but because of the price we elected to pay for 2 nights and enjoy a hot shower and relaxation before the long fligt home. The staff were helpful and very nice.

- Malcolm (10/5): Fine Old World hotel - The hotel is fine, our room was on a second floor walk up, there's a Japanese restaurant in the hotel. Our room overlooked the park, which was nice, but there was a fair bit of Street noise.

La habitación nos permitieron escoger entre las que estaban disponibles, la habitación estuvo muy cómoda, buena cama, buen baño. Para el desayuno era variado y estaba rico. Cerca del hotel se encuentran varios restaurantes y el AMPM esta casi que a la par. Recomendado

- Matthew (10/5): Really great place to stay - Probably the best hostel I have stayed in anywhere. The rooms are of a good size and very comfortable. The staff & owners are very helpful & friendly. The quality of the food in the restaurant is excellent, although the portions are huge and a bit difficult for one person to manage. Apart from that no complaints. Would stay here again.
- Miriam (8/5): Great little room but avoid the restaurant - Nice room, everything was clean and beautiful view of the city park. The only thing we were not pleased with was the quality of the Korean food at the hotel's restaurant. Way overpriced and definitely not what we expected for Korean food. We paid $16 for a watered down black bean noodles with Latin American noodles instead of Asian ones. Tasted like Mexican noodle soup, not Korean. But the the actual accommodations were fine!

- Verified traveler (8/5): OK for 1 night - The hotel is in good condition and the staff is friendly. The restaurant is OK but it is definitely not the best one we tried in Costa Rica. The area around the hotel seems a bit sketchy but I think it reflects the general impression we had in San Jose. We just stayed there 1 night in order to catch our flight the next morning at San Jose Int. airport (20-30min away from the hotel).

- Bonnie (8/5): Charming hotel near La Sabana Park - We chose Hostel Columbus based on location, affordability, and prior reviews, and the hotel accommodations didn't disappoint. As others have mentioned, it really is more of a hotel than a hostel. Our room was nice and had a view of La Sabana Park. If you're a light sleeper as I am, you may prefer a quieter room in the back. There was no noise from other rooms or the common area, but there was traffic all night long. The internet was spotty in our room, but I got consistent internet in the common area which also has a refrigerator. The one thing that keeps me from giving 5 stars for room comfort is that our room was cold, and a quilt or thicker blanket would have afforded a better night's sleep. We were excited that there is an Asian restaurant in the hotel, and I think I had read that it was expensive, but very good food. While we were happy that we didn't have to go out in search of food, we were a little disappointed in the quality of the food. I splurged and ordered teriyaki salmon, but it was overcooked and tough, and my husband was disappointed in his noodle dish.

Loved that it was a unique property, part of the community and close to what we needed on this trip. So much cooler than staying a generic hotel and more than fairly priced (note- no AC but we don't want it). Only two complaints- the pillows and no overhead light. The bed was great but both my wife and I were unable to find comfort with the pillows. Also the overhead light was not working and the bedside lamp not enough. Two easy things to remedy.
