Guest Reviews
- Cameron (4/5): - Floor was filthy. No fitted sheet on the bed. Had at least 6 stray cats outside my door.
- Stephanie (2/5): Don’t stay there!! - There was a bullet hole in the bathroom window and the window pane was falling out. The room was filthy. Bugs in the bed. (Fleas I think) Stuff all over the walls. Floors were filthy. The front desk person was rude too.
- Aaron (10/5): - Very friendly staff. Quiet stay.
- Stephen (10/5): Excellent Motel! - Great staff. Great atmosphere. Quiet neighborhood.
- Cynthia (10/5): Good place to saty at! - Quiet, decent room to stay for over the weekend family gathering.
- Stanley (8/5): - The manager was very friendly and welcoming. The rooms were clean, yet very basic. No hangers in the closet area. We have stayed here before because it is so close to our destination. Would recommend.
- Luke (10/5): - Only place to stay in the small town
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Do not stay here, did not honor reservation I placed 2 weeks prior to stay. Arrived at Midnight to be turned away regardless of reservation and confirmation email. EXTREMELY rude and disrespectful
- Dustin (10/5): - Great hotel. Fair price.
- John (10/5): Great motel! - The room was clean and the owners are friendly. Nothing fancy but I will definitely stay there again
- Edward (10/5): - Check in was quick, room is clean, everything is great
- Kevin (10/5): - I’ve stayed here several times and will again when in the area. Family that owns hotel is great. They take care of all needs I had. No frills property. Basic but met every need.
- Amanda (10/5): Satisfied Customer - Friendly staff. I’d definitely recommend staying there and I’ll definitely stay when needed! Thanks y’all!
- Juan (10/5): - The owner was very nice and helpful. It was a quiet area no issues with noise. The place did seem to be under some construction. The shower head is placed low, so I had to crouth to wash my hair. I also had to mess with the knobs to get the water to work.
- Cyndy (10/5): Good clean value - We like the older motels with parking in front so that fit the bill . Easy check in and out . The room was clean and cared for and somewhat updated. The bed was comfy enough, but with better quality sheets would be perfect.
- Anthony (8/5): Duck Hunt lodge - Local motel near Eagle Lake Duck hunting clubs.
- Ethan (8/5): - Everything was fine exactly what we need for a hunting trip.
- Loyd (8/5): - The property is a little outdated but very clean. The lady behind the desk was very nice and helpful, and I will stay here again.eagle lake leaves something to be desired but if you need somewhere to lay your head for the night I would recommend the Sportsman.
- jan (8/5): Our stay - Not fancy but definitely comfortable. Clean. Proprietors are very nice.
- Kevin (10/5): - Satisfied. For the price can’t do better than this. No frills. If you’re looking for breakfast, pool and lots of amenities seek another place. For rest and relaxation stay here. I will be booking again soon.
- john (8/5): - No nonsense place to rest. Basic, clean. Nothing fancy
- john jr (8/5): - I like that it was close to all the events we were going to and we’ve stayed there in the past just need some updates put some money back into the property
- Stanley W (10/5): - Room was clean and all fixtures worked properly. The only complaint, which is just a typical hotel complaint, is that my wife and I get a king size bed if available and there are always only three small pillows on bed. So, I am always short changed on an extra pillow. haha.
- John (8/5): Just Ok - Not the cleanest but functional and cheap
- Ian (6/5): - It was a good deal for the price and location. I got Fresh towels everyday but the air conditioner was turned off when they came in so it was warm in the room when i returned and took a while to cool down.
- David (8/5): - Staff was great!
- Jaime (8/5): Clean, comfortable safe and good location - Checking was very neighborly, with plenty of conversation. I spoke to two people, and both were very informative about the hotel and the area.
The room was super clean, and everything in it worked, the lights, bathroom and kitchen area, with a microwave and a small refrigerator. There was a TV as well, and it had all the channels that I watch on cable.
The hotel is close to the Main Street and to area shopping and restaurants. I came to see family, and they sometimes picked me up, and I sometimes walked to where they are. The town is small enough to make it possible.
So, the hotel is well placed.
Checkout was a breeze, and also felt neighborly. The staff were understanding about how early I had to leave, and made it easy to take care of that detail.
Even though it is the only hotel in the town, I would recommend it to those staying in the town. It is clean, comfortable, safe and well located. If I happen to go there again, I would stay there again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Positives
Very affordable. Parking right outside the door (typical old school motel). Near local restaurants. Clean. Hot water. Fairly comfortable bed. Mini fridge & microwave.
Negatives
Dated interior. Slight musty smell. No wifi. Near active railroad intersection with horn required. Long term residents who are loud well into the night. TV with very weak volume even at max. Window AC unit mounted in wall.
The big question - will I stay there again if in town for the same event? No - I will pay more and/or drive further rather than stay again. But - if you need a cheap place to stay and can tolerate the negatives this may be the place for you. The train and long term residents are the tipping point.
- Christopher (8/5): - Just a clean simple place to stay nothing fancy just the basic room for a great price.
- Scott (10/5): - The motel was everything we needed, clean, cozy, warm shower, and comfortable bed.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I have noticed last couple times the floor hasn’t been very clean. I would walk bare foot to the bed and my feet would be black like I walked outside. Other than that I love the room and the atmosphere
- FB (6/5): - Good for a quick overnight stay but will probably not return unless absolutely necessary.
Front office had a horrific smell but staff was extremely polite
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Couldn’t get WiFi to work person in office just told me to try password again. I told them it was coming back as invalid password. No markings on heater/ac had to guess what to do to turn on. Walls real thin neighbor blasted tv all night right at head of bed. Rough couple of days
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Rooms were clean, smelt clean. Need to caulk under window unit(room 112), more electrical outlets wouls be nice.
- Verified traveler (4/5): The worst were the broken tiles - This is not the place to stay unless you are in Eagle Lake as a "Sportsman" and can handle a bit of a rough stay. The room was a bit musty, the rug in the main part was bumpy and a little damp, and the worst part was that many of the tiles in the kitchen/sink/bathroom area were cracked and broken with some edges sticking up. They guy at the desk said they were going to fix my room next, but the tiles in the room next door were new. My thought was, if so, why not put me there. Anyway, avoid staying here if you can. I will never return.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Older Mom-n-Pop Type Motel - We stayed here to be close to the Attwater Prairie Chicken NWR and were not expecting the Ritz, however this was one of the strangest rooms we've been in. The bedside lamps were wall sconces installed so high that I couldn't reach them. The bathroom area had new paint+texturizing, which included having texturized switch plate and light switch, texturized door frames and texturized hooks in the closet area! The carpeting had a huge lump in it that caused some near tripping - who knows what happened there!? My husband had a little brown bug of some sort under his pillow when he was getting in bed - not a bedbug, not a roach... But - the beds were very comfortable and the woman in the office when we checked in was pleasant. It was fine for an over night stay!
- Frank (6/5): Nicht länger wie eine Nacht - Leider war es feucht im Zimmer, und nicht besonders sauber
- Robert (10/5): Great. - Friendly staff and pleasant stay.
- Gready (10/5): - Clean & quiet! The owners are such nice people. AC is cold!
- Brandon (8/5): Fly away from Eagle Lake - The motel is clean and fair price. The area around it sucks.
- Ron (8/5): Ronaldo - Great place for value
- Frank (8/5): Selbstversorger - Alles vorhanden was an braucht, mit Kaffeemaschine und kleine Küche
- John (2/5): - Room was extremely dated and smelled of stale tobacco. Lacking towels, which I retrieved from manager. Upon opening towel after getting out of shower, discovered black hand print in middle of what was supposed to be freshly cleaned towel. Dust and dirt everywhere. Kept awake most of night by snoring neighbor. Itched all night in bed.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was the perfect place to stay the night so we could make it to the Attwater Prairie Chicken Festival!
- George (6/5): Websters definition of no frills - Old building family run. extremely no frills. Family is friendly and do their best with what little they have. Area is devoid of any restaurants and there is no shopping other than gas station convenience stores. Only extra is wifi which is up and down at best and slow as a snail when up.
