• hound_dogue (2/5): Don't bother! - Unfortunately here you get what what you pay for!!!! It was absolutely horrible, so much so I left a week early as I couldn't stay any longer so paid to change my travel arrangements to leave. The rooms are TINY, smelly and grotty. The older chap, i think the owner however is lovely (I forgot his name, sorry!) He was the only nice thing about it!

Another room had broken toilet and water is running non stop. Please stay away. In my pillow was someone else public hair. I just stayed there becuase of late arrival

Ac sounds terrible, window is broken, door lock is broken. Everything in the room was broken and very old. Had a terrible experience.

Hatta iki ayrı oda aldık arkadaşlarımızınkini de kontrol ettik böyle bir berbatlık yok. Klimalar çalışmıyor. Sabah hasta uyandık. Odalar kesinlikle temiz değildi. Fiyat performans karşılaştırması da yapmayalım arkadaşlar cebimizden çıkan her para değerli sonuçta ve burası haketmiyor.

Der Gastgeber wollte uns überzeugen unsere Koffer nicht mit ins Zimmer zu nehmen. Kein Aufzug. Kaputte Steckdosen. Also weil wir auf der Durchreise sind und nur eine Nacht da waren, haben wir es halt so hingenommen.

• Marek (4/5): Izmir stay 10 Oct - Good points: convenient location, central and close to an IZBAN station, reasonably priced, solid wi-fi internet. Room small but adequate for a one-night stay. Room and bathroom reasonably clean overall. Shower with hot water but shower door broken and bathroom floor gets flooded when using the shower. Had to use a mop and bucket to make the bathroom usable. Clean towels but rudimentary bed linen. Suffered bad and painful bites from some unidentified bed bugs. Staying a second night would be unthinkable. Would not use this hotel again mainly because of the bed bugs. Perhaps I've been unlucky.

• Sentürk (2/5): - Das ist kein Hotel sondern eine Absteige, in einer der unsichersten Gassen. Mit dem Auto kommt man nicht mal um die Kurve und passt kaum in die Straßen. Wir haben 2 Stunden dieses "Hotel"in dem Viertel gesucht, weil die Gassen so verzwickt sind und haben dabei unsere Autotüren von innen verschlossen. Als Frau würde ich da sonst nicht mal durchfahren. Ich denke, dass man da alles illegale und kaputte findet was man sich vorstellen kann. Von Strichnu .... bis sonstwas. Selbst meinen Mann habe ich nicht aussteigen lassen um nach diesem " Hotel" zu fragen. Nachdem wir es gefunden haben war es auch bestätigt. Eine reinste Absteige !!!! Alles nur Männer jeglicher Art vor und in diesem Hotel. Mein Mann hat den Mann am Empfang gesagt, dass das kein Hotel ist, indem er mit seiner Frau wohnen kann und wir sind abgefahre

Otel sanki butik otel havasında bir giriş resepsiyon görünümü var ancak gel gelelim odalar kötü, yastıklar lekeli, tek kişilik odaya 3 kişilik yatak sıkıştırılmış. Sıcak su yok neden yok diye sorduk kırmızı tarafa çevirip uzun süre akıtınca gelir dediler ancak gelmedi. Odada terlik yok, havlular lekeli ve yırtıktı. Çocukların odasında böcek vardı. Bulunduğu konum kötüydü sanki kendinizi Tunus Fas ya da Suriye’de gibi hissediyorsunuz. Resepsiyondaki arkadaşın karşılaması idare ederdi o kadar. Hiç tavsiye etmiyorum.

• yasemin (2/5): Dünya üzerinde tuvalet kağıdı vermeyen tek otel - Hayatımda kaldığım en berbat oteldi, kahveyi suyu geçtim tuvalet kağıdı dahi vermiyor, bunca yaşımda ilk defa tuvalet kağıdı vermeyen bir otel gördüm, odaların fotoğraflarla alakası yok aşırı eski, çarşaflar yırtık ve çok eskiydi, klima aşırı gürültülü çalışıyordu, bu sebeple gece klimayı açamadık ve sabaha karşı donduk, uyandığımızda elektrik ve sular kesikti yani konfor sıfır tek kelime ile izbe bir yer

• Helin (2/5): - Almanyadan geldik.. es war die Hölle auf Erden. Wir haben über 100 Euro gezahlt und das Hotel war eine bruchbude. Kakerlaken habe ich keine gefunden aber alles war dreckig verschmutzt und noch nie gereinigt. Die Wände hatten nur Risse drin und es war das ekelhafteste schäbigste Hotel was ich je im Leben gesehen habe. Man ist in einem Obdachlosenheim besser aufgehoben als in diesem drecks“Hotel“ . Geht auf KEINEN KEINEN KEINEN FALL DAHIN

• Verified traveler (6/5): Good for a night or two - I had a single room on the ground floor. It was very small which was fine . It was a nice little room. I smelt a lot of cigarette smoke and people were constantly smoking bearby so even though i keot my door open most of the time smoke still came in. It is close to the train station so people arrived and left at weird hours and were generally not quiet doing it. Its in a rough sortof area which makes it kind of interesting. Lots of cheap food and more local cheap bars and alcohol outlets than ive noticed anywhere else. Definitely value for money. It was definitely clean but basic hotel. Nice linen.close to the old city and walk to the ocean.

They charged extra money and the staff didn't even bother to help carry the luggage upstairs. There's no elevator so u must take the stairs. The staff came knocking at 07:00 a.m. asking a stupid thing. I would never recommend it for anyone.

• Verified traveler (6/5): the cheapest and probably the opposite of best - The hotel is very near the main bazaar and metro station. Staff is welcoming and nice. The hotel is extremely cheap, with reasons. No lift, internet connection not working properly, heating system not working properly, plaster failing out here and there, wall sockets hanging out of the wall, not a single, cheap soap in the bathroom, not one single chair in the room.
• faisalalimastoi (2/5): Very bad service - This place is the worst hotel I've ever been to. First of all, the hotel surcharged us of what was already booked by phone. Next, come to the service. What a terrible experience it was, there was no warm water available in the washrooms and the breakfast service was also bad. I would definitely not recommend it to anyone.

• Solo traveler (2/5): Don't even think of booking it. - Reception is not airconditioned despite of the weather which is really hot. Staff is not so helpful, he doesn't have any idea of what tour is when I asked if they book tours. He even said there's nothing to see in Izmir, how is that for tourism. Room is very small, they fitted a double bed in a small spaced room, I can't even open my luggage. And there were flies. After 10 minutes, I moved yo a better hotel. The description of the hotel is so opposite. And they even charge credit cards pronto. And un refundable, very disappointing.
• JHPTZ (2/5): What a dirty place! Only the front desk employee did an alright job. - Power sockets and light switches you can write your name on, in that dirt on them. Shower full of black mold. Betcovers with holes. Trashcans broken, unacceptable, even for that money. Only good point was the (nightie) front office man (around 50), he was friendly and did a quick and efficent job. Rooms also badly, badly isolated. Next night we spent 35 instead of 22 Euros, the difference was light day and night. You could argue that you can not complain for 22 Euros a night, but it was so filthy, a tiny bit of cleaning would make the world of a change!

• 481hamzan (8/5): Lovely helpful and friendly staff - Location wise it's ok, you have to walk 15-20 minutes to get to the town. But a tram location not too far from it. Staff very helpful and friendly, had no issues at all. It is a very basic hotel, we were staying in a nice cosy room, can't complain :) Not sure why it is receiving such bad reviews. Unlimited supply of Turkish tea :)
• _H9826IA (2/5): this is a real rats hole ! - if you want to be shocked by the smell of rotten in the walls and beds...broken windows and doors...nothing working...horrible place with no safety at all...then book a room here. you will be terrified ! this place in izmir sucks big time...lazy dirty people all over... rated -10.
• 101valentinam (2/5): Ants and unchanged sheets - Title says it all. Overpriced hotel which resulted to be the most dirty and disgusting one. We had hair in the bed, ants crawling over us and the bin of the bathroom was open and widely showing other people's trash.
• PunjabiBella (2/5): Worst hotel experience ever. - I booked a twin room in June 2014 for one night in August 2014. We checked in and went upstairs to the room. Twin means 2 beds, but to our surprise, there was only 1 bed. I came back downstairs and asked why there was only 1 bed instead of 2. I was told, "we're all booked...that's the only room." I said that I had booked a room with 2 beds months ago. Then (I'm assuming this is the manager and/or the owner's son from his arrogance), this young man started yelling at me and telling me to calm down and they were all booked. I again asked what does the hotel being booked have anything to do with me since I made the reservations months ago. He was silent. I asked if he knows what "twin" means...Then he stated that the website had some issues and that's why "twin" showed when it should not have...I asked why no one told me at check-in that although I had reserved 2 beds, due to whatever situation, there was only 1 bed available. He was silent. The hotel, and only the hotel, was at fault, yet they refused to take any responsibility or offer us anything. Oh, wait...the rude man did say that he would refund me and I can take my business elsewhere. By then, it was close to 9pm and my friend I were in Izmir only for that night. So we sucked it up, shared the bed and gross tiny bathroom and the heck out of there in the morning. I have never been treated so poorly. I mean, I understand that websites have bugs, but why not immediately admit that when I was checking in? Why not try to compensate me somehow instead of telling me to go elsewhere so late in the evening? Had they offered me a taxi ride the next day, I would have been fine, but no...this hotel's management is rude, uncompromising and verbally abusive. Too bad this is how I was introduced to Izmir. Beside this crappy excuse for a hotel, Izmir was actually pretty great.
• Ramzi135 (6/5): Good location and staff but the rooms are not. - I stayed there for one night. The staff were nice and helpful. But the room was small and the noise outside might be annoying sometimes. The location is 10 or 15 mn walk from the city center but dark at night.
• Pomelolapomelo (4/5): Nice entrance / That's almost all... - We stayed in this hotel for a week in total, our first 3 days were just "perfect" for the price but the last 4 days were just impossible, no hot water and no heater... For the hot water (if there is) you normally have to call the reception and tell them that there is no water and it might comes. The staff is charming but a bit mendacious. Plus: Even if it looks charming beware of the parrot, it bites !!!! ;-)
• RYJFA (6/5): Small, quiet rooms a ways away from bustle and the seaside... - ... which isn't ideal when you're staying in a place like Izmir. The nearby bazaar is nightmare material to walk through after dark, even if the average Turkish city is considerably safer than those of comparable size in the United States. The only very good bonus about the Vatan Otel's location is its proximity to the Çankaya Metro station, which makes getting from the otogar to your destination slightly easier. The staff was pleasant but not exceptionally helpful. I had a lightbulb burn out my first night; despite having lodged a maintenance complain with the folks at the front desk, I never saw a repair or got a knock on my door for the duration of my stay. The room itself was cramped but comfortable. I didn't mind the lack of a window, although I can understand why that might be an issue for some. My warm water only worked for my first night. All in all, neither a great nor terrible place to stay. There aren't any hostels in Izmir, so far as I know, and the Vatan is more than sufficient for travelers trying to get by on a minimal budget.
• FedericoA516 (4/5): Just a cheap hotel in the center. But furnitures are just done - Nice hall and nice staff in a good location. All good I can say is about this. Cause the room was crippy and the shower did not work, and even the light in the bathroom broke after 5 minutes it was on (scaring even me). Floor was done, pieces of it were missing at every step of mine.
• meganrachael (8/5): Not bad for a budget hotel - I would probably stay here again. The staff were all friendly and helpful with advice and directions. My room was fine. I couldn't figure out how to turn off the air conditioning so I got very cold sometimes but I could have just asked how to turn it off so that was my fault. The bathroom was nice but I dont think a cleaner came in my room the 3 days I was there. It didn't really matter though. The breakfast wasn't anything special but it was free so no complaints. The location was ok. Close to a couple of train stations and about 10 mins walk to the sea. The street that the hotel is in seemed a little dodgy at first but I think it was actually ok. I would recommend this hotel.
• katerinas806 (6/5): good valiue for it's money - Good breakfast next to the 'agora' old market kadifekale taxis on the road to kadifekale castle,close to a supermarket. basic room no vew acceptable breakfast, i loved the massage chair on the entrance and the parrot. also tables outside the hotel to catch a breath and a siggaret if you are like me and free water and coffe and tea all day long ! a low point is the english they luck a bit and rooms are small but i found it quite homey and not so hotelish if you get what i mean ... I stayed there twise and have hard time to book to better hotels since i love the outside tables on the road so grafic...
• Oden52 (4/5): Confusing hotel standard - I asked for “a good deal” price for 3 nights (single room) at this hotel, and the front desk offered me 45 lira/ night, cash payment. Compared to the other hotels, it was a good price, but I later realized that you get what you pay for. The room was very small, but it didn’t bother me much. However, I object to the following: there was an ashtray with cigarette butts left behind in the window when I arrived to my room. (I quickly put the ashtray with its junk in the corridor, as I am a non-smoker.) There was daily cleaning of my room, but apparently this “cleaning” did not include to empty the wastebasket in the bathroom, which was left with garbage until I checked out. There were no hooks for towels in the bathroom. The lavatory pan was strangely placed very close to the wall – any guest using it would have to sit askew. The pillow case had stains. At each breakfast plates were missing and I had to search for staff as noone was in the breakfast room. The staff who sat in the lobby during nights was apparently chain smokers because the cigarette smoke spread through the lobby/stairs into my room, making my sleep uncomfortable. The owner of this hotel has spent a lot of money on the interior of the hotel lobby with an aquarium with large fishes, white leather sofas, a small pond with turtles, a screeching parrot , paintings and artwork on every wall and corner in the hotel, a dashing entrance front desk, and a tasteless decorated breakfast room that looked more like a wedding hall. The owner has unfortunately not made the same investment in all of the guests’ rooms. I peeked into a double room (door was wide opened) where the bathroom had only one tap for cold water, but no hot water tap. Luckily I had both warm water and cold water tap in my bathroom. And dear owner: to place some fancy textile and a pillow in glittery fabric on the bed, provides no standard raise. This is more of a two star hotel. But it was good they had wifi in the hotel. At my departure I concluded that this hotel probably offers different prices for different rooms. The hotel has at least two sections or annexes, the other which I only walked through once when looking for my room. It must have been in the other section that the finer rooms (and bathrooms) are placed – seen in the photos on the hotel’s website. So I got what I paid for (the cheaper room with low standard). I have stayed in both charmful and well designed hotels in Turkey, but this hotel gets the label "funny-looking" and "confusing standard". The only credit I want to give is to the male receptionist at the front desk when I checked in - he spoke excellent English and treated me warmly and friendly. However when I checked out and stood for a moment in the lobby, I overheard him speaking on the phone and that he offered a room for (what it sounded like) 30 lira/ night to a guest. What? Say again? Anyways, I will not return again to this hotel.
• 255103Traveller (2/5): The WORST 'hotel' I have stayed at, in the world - I am not going to give too much detail, but to say this. Nothing in the room was operational; Hot water, AC, Toilet door, TV, WiFi etc. There were cockroaches in the bathroom. The staff were hideous. I stayed 2 nights receiving a total of 3 hours sleep due to a staff member in high heels on a marble floor walking by the lower floor rooms from 1am to 5am every 10 minutes, 2 nights in a row. I can't even explain why to you? I do not like to provide negative reviews, however when this is the worst hotel I have experienced in more than 150 on 5 continents. I feel it important to provide fellow traveler's with a head's up. To top it off the desk attendant told me it was 50TL for the airport shuttle, when the day prior I was quoted 40TL, upon learning this he begrudgingly said ok. DO NOT STAY HERE.
• rajaramanp2016 (2/5): stayed there last week march and had the most horrible experience of my life time - I booked through EBOOKERS here .Arrive at 11 pm to find NO ROOMS though they recvd booking .They made me wait for 2 hours and then took me to the dingiest and cheapest hotel I have seen .It was a 70 sq ft jail .I had to sleep here that night and then come to Vatan for 2nd night stay .Again they made me wait for 2 hours before I got the room .Useless food and un clean rooms .Bloody frauds these guys
