• Paul (10/5): - A lovely house with welcoming, friendly and helpful hosts. Very comfortable room with well-equipped “private bathroom” nearby (a very minor whinge is that en suite would have been nice). Great individually tailored breakfasts to set us up for the day. Location is in easy walking distance from the town and several good walks. Free parking right outside. 10/10

Absolutely everything was immaculately clean and Carole was so welcoming with tips and suggestions for the local area. Breakfast was in another lovely room and cooked to order which was just delicious. We will be back to see the lovely town and would absolutely stay here again.

• Nigel (10/5): Highly recommended - beautiful home. - Such a beautiful home, and so close to the main street and main attractions - less than 5 minutes walk from Bowes Museum. Carole made us feel very welcome, and her home is immaculate. Wonderful room, spacious bathroom and great breakfast too. Couldn't find a fault in the place and would happily stay there again next time we are in Barnard Castle. Carole was very happy to pass on local information as well.

Room was equipped with everything we needed and was a good size and spotless Very tasty breakfast. Would certainly return if ever back in the area.
• Laura (10/5): Excellent stay at Newgate House - The BnB was immaculate and our room was lovely. It was neat, tidy and clean and we felt very welcome. Carole was an excellent host and catered to all our needs. The breakfast was great and my partner especially enjoyed the salmon and scrambled eggs on toast. The location of the BnB was perfect for us as we were attending a wedding nearby, plus it was only a 5 minute walk to the shops. I would definitely recommend this BnB for anyone looking to stay in the area.

A truly exceptional welcome and amazing level of service. The breakfast was also phenomenal and made us feel more than ready to make the post wedding trip home! Highly reccomended! A++

• Matthew (10/5): B&B perfection! - Absolutely fantastic. Welcoming host, characterful and charming house. Lovely atmosphere. Books everywhere. High ceilings, tiled floors. Lovely room with a particularly good quilt. Everywhere is light and airy. I had an exquisite private bathroom, with books and a Bluetooth speaker. Fittings and fixtures blend the classic and the modem. I'd love to have that bathroom in my house! The host even went to the trouble of buying some Crunchy Nut because I asked for it. Superb. A faultless stay.
• Anna (10/5): This is a beautiful place to stay - Our stay was wonderful, the hosts made us feel very welcome and left us to our own devices. The bedroom and bathroom were both beautiful and luxerious. We really felt very well cared for. Again, the breakfast was great and Carole was accommodating to my vegan requests. Overall I couldn’t recommend the place highly enough. We’d certainly stay again.
• Lisa (10/5): Fab B&B close to the Penines and Yorkshire Dales - Lovely B&B in the heart of Bernard Castle village. Immaculately furnished room. Lovely bedding and incredibly comfortable mattress. Fantastic big breakfast to start your day. Ample parking on the street outside. I arrived on a motorcycle and could see my bike from my bedroom window. The castle and surrounding buildings are beautiful to walk around. Local co-op , so easy to restock on necessities. Carol was the prefect hostess, going through the map of the town, recommending places to eat, making the most delicious breakfast, which unfortunately I couldn't finish! I would definitely recommend this venue and would definitely return myself :)
• hadenmaiden (8/5): Lovely room, great base for the north east. - We had three nights at Newgate House, and would happily recommend to fellow travellers. The rooms are spacious and very well presented, and Carol is a most welcoming hostess. There is ample storage space in the rooms, and the tea tray was enhanced by daily provision of fresh (not UHT!) milk. We opted for the 'room with nice bath'. It was, indeed a very nice bath - made all the more inviting by large fluffy towels and lots of space. The bathroom was literally two steps from the bedroom, and in no way inconvenient. Breakfast was a delight; taken in the dining room at the front of the house, around a table that would easily seat ten. Even when both rooms are full, it would be quite possible to keep to yourself if preferred. Plenty of eating houses in town, and Carol will recommend places further afield if asked. On street parking is ample - we managed to park right outside the front door every time.
