Guest Reviews
- Gail (6/5): - Great location.
Room was small and dated. Linen and towels were not great quality. Nice continental breakfast.
- Cathy (10/5): - The host was friendly and welcoming. Easy walk to St. Andrew’s Cathedral and Inverness Castle.
- Holly (6/5): - This was a very nice B&B. The location is perfect, along the river and walking distance to downtown Inverness. The hotel owners are lovely and the breakfast was good. Parking onsite and included which was nice. Our room was clean & spacious. Our bed was small (only a double and bedding was ok). Overall it is a very good 3 star b&b & would recommend if on a budget looking to stay in the heart of Inverness.
- Patricia (10/5): - Very nice owners, clean comfortable room. Very pleasant stay. Parking is a little tight but better than being on the street for sure.
- Tamara (6/5): - The staff was very helpful & in a wonderful location. I wanted to give the 5 stars but the place was just uncomfortable. It went beyond “quirky” because of age of home. The linens were poor quality & old/warn out. Pillows/bed hard. Almost no room to maneuver in room especially with suitcases. You’d better be a small person bc the shower is ridiculously small.
- Peter (10/5): - Good value for money. Centrally located and easy to walk to the local restaurants.
- Derek (10/5): - Had a great stay, 5 stars, would go again!
- Paul (8/5): Lovely little place. - Lovely little bandb very helpful people, nice variety for breakfast nice clean room a very short walk to the centre of Inverness.
- Patrick (10/5): Lovely staying Inverness - Great location. Beautiful view of the river. Friendly and responsive host. Loved our stay.
- Davina (8/5): 2 day break in Inverness - Visit to Inverness for a couple of days before we headed to Aviemore . The room was a good size and not too far from the centre, it was lovely to stay near the river. The only complaint we had the curtains would not stay on the rail and were very light so were getting woken up really early. The footpath walking through the gate towards the b & b then paving slabs aren’t very wide and makes it difficult to get your suitcase on.
- Tenille (10/5): - Beautiful rooms overlooking the Ness River a short walk from good shopping and dining options. The hosts were very helpful from the moment I arrived.
- Michele (6/5): - The pathway from the parking area to the back and side of the house is poorly lit. The pathway is not wide enough for this. I stepped too close to the edge of the pathway and my foot slipped off it into the gravel beside it causing my ankle to roll and break. I was six days into an 18 day trip. It's basically ruined the rest of my time in Scotland.
- Judy (10/5): - This is an outstanding location! So close to city centre and right on the very walkable river bank. Lovely room and filling breakfast served by very kind proprietor.
- Hans (10/5): Quaint and Friendly - The Talisker was so quaint and old fashioned. The service was impeccable and the breakfast was very filling. Walking distance to downtown.
- Trevor (8/5): - Lovely building in a great location overlooking the river. Clean and comfortable but the room was a little cramped with its sloping roof.
- Heather (10/5): - Lovely property. I found the room chilly and a little difficult to get it warm, the host very kindly supplied a space heater
- Hilary (4/5): Great location but not a great stay - Location and hosts were excellent but ... everything else was pretty disappointing and we can't understand how previous reviews have scored Talisker so highly.
Great location right on the river and an easy stroll to local sights, bars, entertainment, shops, etc. The proprietors were very friendly and accommodating.
Walking into our bedroom was like revisiting your granny's unused back bedroom in the 1970's. The room was small, the bathroom was tiny, and the furnishings and decor were a slightly bizarre mix of dated and completely unrelated oddments. However, we hadn't come to Inverness for its interior design, so that wasn't an immediate cause for concern but it all fed in to to a slight question mark about the general level of care and cleanliness.
This came to a head at breakfast the next morning when we could see the cloth on the buffet table had stains and mildew from spillage under the fruit juice jugs which must have been there for some time to have reached that state. Then we discovered there was mould on our toast, but when we discreetly brought this to the attention of the host, this was dismissed as not mould, but seeds / grains in the bread! It tasted like mould and looked like mould - it was definitely mould! We were made to feel that we were making it up, but we were trying not to make a fuss and to ensure that they were aware of the problem and didn't serve it to others.
Unfortunately, the positive aspects of Talisker were eclipsed by the negatives.
- Caryn (10/5): - Very nice and friendly host
- Patrick (8/5): - The service was excellent and had great choices at the continental breakfast. Super fast and easy check-in and the owner was easy to reach and to respond.
The room was clean and had all the amenities.
The property is well situated with ease of walking everywhere downtown Inverness for local attractions and shopping. We would definitely go back.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Just what we needed but could be better - Overall stay was exactly what we needed. Our room had a lovely view out onto the river, it was in a great location and free parking provided (albeit quite a tight driveway to get onto) which is round the back of the b&b.
The rooms were quite dated and some areas could have done with more cleaning as thick layers of dust were on the lights which hung over the bed and there were a few black hairs in the shower. The bedsheets and towels were clean.
Average continental breakfast but host was lovely and made sure that tea/coffee and toast was topped up.
- Pascale (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay
- Caroline (8/5): Great location! - Talisker was in a great location by the river. The room was nice and pretty comfortable and the owner/staff were very pleasant. My only issue was with the shower! it was impossible to regulate the temperature!
- martin (10/5): - Very nice property and staff
- Mathieu (10/5): - Everything was as expected. Parking is at the back of the B&B. I would return here.
- Yi (10/5): - Very nice staff
- Daniel (8/5): - Delightful 200 year old house with the charm and quirks one could expect from such. Very convenient to downtown and the castle.
- Baudilio (10/5): - Property maybe needs some improvements. However, the lady who assisted is a wonderful host, kudos for her.
- Sarah (10/5): Recommended - Lovely old house, with appropriate decor and furnishings. Wonderful river view. Friendly helpfull staff on arrival and at breakfast. Private parking ideal for us with a dog sleeping in the car. Bathroom facilities a little bit dated.
- Colin (10/5): Good value B&B - The best value B&B I've found in Inverness. Clean, comfortable and a nice welcoming host. Every other place was asking ridiculous money and Talisker offered a good old fashioned B&B. The noise from the toilet is a bit loud and I was worried about waking the other guests but overall the room was just what was required.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A pleasant B&B at a superb location on bank of river Ness a 5 min walk into centre but at a peaceful location. Only comment would be quality of breakfast it was certainly budget croissants and choice of three basic cereals but as it is “free” it is just an added bonus really so not marking down on this.
- Alexis (10/5): Such a cozy stay in Inverness - Loved our short time here. Such a lovely room with a river view and a short walk to everything we wanted to do. Host was so friendly and breakfast was great. We read that parking was a little tricky - it's just hard to turn into the tight gate from the busy road. We ended up circling around until we were on MacDonald Street and could easily drive straight through the gate with no turning. Would love to stay again for a bit longer next time!
- Deborah (10/5): - Wonderful hostess.
- Timberly (10/5): - Lovely, helpful hostess. Location was ideal - quiet at night yet central for walking.
- Kevin (10/5): Lovely visit! - A little tricky to get parked, but lovely place. We walked down the road to Number 27 restaurant and ate delicious food (get the black ice cream for dessert!!!)
We enjoyed a walk down the riverfront to see other properties and their flower gardens. Lovely place
- Stephen (10/5): - Really nice place to stay, nice view over the river and good toom
- David (10/5): - Very handy to walk downtown
- Verified traveler (10/5): Comfortable and cozy - Great location right on the river. Walkable to downtown and restaurants. Parking is behind and through a very tight gate. Not suitable for large cars. Staff was very friendly. Simple but filling continental breakfast.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Close to everything & on a quiet street. Parking tight but happy to have a spot.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Firstly, be aware that FULL payment must be made by cash only (as I was informed in no uncertain terms the moment I set foot in the door). If you don't have full cash payment with you when you arrive, don't expect a warm welcome.
Speaking of warm, don't expect a comfortably warm room here. Heating is strictly limited to a short time, evening and morning. You'll wake up to a chilly room - that is, if you haven't been awake shivering most of the night anyway. Bedding is totally inadequate, so bring your winter woollies for sleeping in.
The property is in a quiet location but this is largely negated by noisy plumbing within the hotel. The shower in my room did not work well; it alternated between scalding and freezing and the temperature control had no effect at all.
The continental breakfast was adequate, although the croissants had not been properly defrosted.
Overall, an unpleasant place to stay and extremely poor value for money.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Lovely setting and not sure if it was because I was in a single room at the top and maybe this room is not looked after but the TV didn't have reception and the radiator didn't work.
When I reported this, I was informed that there wasn't much that could be done about the TV. I had to pre-empt and ask if he had a DVD player.
When reported about the heating (as I was cold all night). Nothing was done.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cozy and Great Location - We enjoyed our stay at Talisker. The house is very nice and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was great, right by the water and only a 10 minute walk to the main town. The only negative was the room size. It was very small and cramped. Also the shower was very little and separated from the sink. The sink was actually in the room so if you used the washroom, you have to walk into the room to the sink to use it. Other than that, it was a pleasant stay. We would probably stay there again or recommend it to anyone looking for a place in Inverness.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The owner is very nice and the view is gorgeous but considering how expensive it is the poorley working shower and the plastic cover under the bedruin the experience. You can only pay in cash .
- Suzi (6/5): 1st time in Scotland - Hotel was clean, even though parking is included it is hard to access. Not a lot of hot water and rooms were cold.
- Amanda (8/5): Talisker - Lovely B&B, Host lovely, location great, the only think I could suggest is replace the bed as it sqeaked every time you sat on it or moved in the bed.
- Martin (10/5): - Excellent really nice B&B near the centre of Inverness and right on the river. 10 minute walk from station and 5 minutes from the centre of town.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Location is excellent and room is clean and comfortable. Pillows are a little hard and thin.
- Douglas J (10/5): Stress free holiday. - Lovely room, delicious continental breakfast, helpful hostess.
- Nicola (6/5): - Very expensive for a pokey room up 3 flights of stairs
I had to leave at 7.30am (before breakfast) but was not offered an alternative.
Couldn't get wi-fi to work either ......
It was a lovely location though, just on the River Ness and walkable into town
- DARRYL (8/5): A fine stay - The location was probably the best aspect of this guest house, as there are numerous ones around Inverness. It was located within walking distance of the old town, right along the river. As with most Scottish B&Bs, the room was a bit small and unfortunately since we stayed there during a heatwave, it was hard to get much air flow in the room. The breakfast buffet was just fine. The only downside was we had to pay cash, which I hadn't been aware of when I booked the place.
- Stuart (6/5): Pros and cons - Good WiFi only continental breakfast and CASH ONLY very quiet
- Christine (10/5): Great place to stay - Lovely guest house. Room had a brilliant view over the River. We had a very comfortable bed. Tea/coffee making facilities, a little table and 2 chairs, adequate storage and a good shower. Tastefully decorated and very clean. Was strange having the wash hand basin in the bedroom rather than in with the shower and toilet, but we got used to it. Breakfast was continental+ - fresh fruit, yoghurt, cold meat cheese and booked eggs, toast, coffee or tea and orange juice. The owner was lovely, very quiet and polite. The setting is quiet but close to the centre of Inverness. Car park8bg space at the back. Great stay and reasonably priced. Would recommend.
- Paul (10/5): A comfortable Inverness city break. - Very comfortable, very convenient and a very friendly welcome. Enjoyed the excellent continental breakfast selection. Private parking can be tight, but there is ample free parking (4pm to 10am) in the road outside.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very handy for the city centre. Parking available.
- Jane (8/5): - Nice guest house in a great location with parking
- David (6/5): My expectations.ŷ - Was disappointed that they did not have decafinated coffee. Continental breakfast not mentioned and they only took ash for payment. Good for walking into Inverness though.
- rajah (10/5): Comfortable stay - Basic room with excellent view
- Paul (8/5): - Nice friendly owner, good comfortable room and can't beat the position right on the river.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Cute and Comfy B&B - Lovely, quiet little B&B on the Ness Bank. I was traveling by myself, and their single room was perfect. The room was cozy with a great view of the River Ness, and the price can't be beat. I will definitely stay here again next time I'm in Inverness.
- SARAH (10/5): I would recommend it - The hotel was very nice and the parking was good. The breakfasts were excellant
- Johanna (10/5): - Lovely landlady. I liked how the breakfast was arranged, sweet and tasteful.
