Guest Reviews
- Ilie (7/5): -
- Sophie (8/5): - No hassle Nothing
- Caine (10/5): Excellent venue and very friendly staff! - Although I had to cancel on the day of my visit, due to my event being cancelled. The hotel were excellent giving me a partial refund and great communication N/A
- LMP (5/5): Not what I expected - This is well situated on the outskirts of Hamilton Town centre. Close to Hamilton West Rail Station. There are some decent restaurants nearby. It had a large bed and the bedding and towels were clean On arrival the place looked locked up. A staff member from the pub came out and said i would need to collect the key from a restaurant across the road. The staff member at the restaurant asked my name and handed me a key and said 'side of pub' and pointed back across the road. I managed to find the entrance through what appeared to be a grubby beer garden. I located my room on the first floor. The room was uninviting. I found a discarded (ie roughly bunched) duvet in the wardrobe, which was tilted precariously like the leaning Tower of Pisa and the hangers were sticky.
Despite there being 2 different sets of details to access the WiFi neither worked. I had a mobile hot-spot but the signal was still very poor.
The room was exceptionally hot (the towel rail in the bathroom was on with no way of turning it off) and I opened all of the windows but there was a lot of noise, people and vehicular, from outside and at one point someone started playing a drum.
I actually found the place a bit creepy.
There were 2 different sets of instructions about checking out.
No further interaction with any staff although there was a landline number provided.
I wouldn't book a room here again
- Gary (9/5): - Good size clean room. Music from the pub underneath is very loud but only at the weekend. During the week was fine.
- lyn (4/5): Don’t go! - Utterly bizarre place! Arrived and had no obvious place to park, so double parked and popped inside. Very rude and unhelpful woman at bar, shrugged and said rooms have nothing to do with the pub. Go across to the Indian she states. Got keys from restaurant and returned, asking where to access room. Told it was round the side, again in a very unhelpful manner. Found the room, and to be honest for £59 it was fine. Clean and comfy beds, good shower. However, paper thin walls so not much sleep with folk watching TV after 1am and excitable folk on a birthday call at 8am on a Sunday. Will NEVER return here!
- Helen (7/5): - Clean and comfortable On noisy road
- Lee (10/5): Good - Good location, parking and clean
- Chris (2/5): Very bad experience it wasn’t what I booked very bad place - Everything it was up a lane way and it looked like a make shift place to stay it wasn’t what it looked like on booking.com Everything
- Ferguson (8/5): Ideal for a stopover. Clean and comfortable - Ideal for our overnight stay. Rooms were clean and nice and warm. Beds were also very comfortable
- Mark (1/5): DISASTROUS - Not a good choice - NOTHING I never got into the property. The parking is disgraceful & no instruction given to customers. Drove around three times as no indication where to park. The only car park visible when I later stopped was fenced so not accessible. I then wrongly thought I needed to park in the entrance before the venue where I proceeded to scrape my car badly. I reversed out pulled into the minute space where a young girl in a red car proceeded to park directly behind me on the main road. She made no time to converse with me but I think she was a member of staff. When you make a booking for The Bay Horse it seems appropriate to think parking is going to be provided. By this point the damage to my car made me so angry that I proceeded to go find alternative accommodation at expense.
- Chris (5/5): -
- greg (7/5): For a one night stay to save on money. Was well worth it. If you're happy with basic, this is value - Clean and secure room. Furnished to basic standard. Bathroom was really clean and room was warm upon arrival. The noise from pub below was minimal but I knew i would be above a pub. Bed was comfy. Pillows and quilt were well washed and warm. My only gripe is that one of the windows doesn't seal properly and lets in traffic noise.
- olubunmi (1/5): Never ever booking this place. Has nothing to do with the staff but I regretted booking the place same amount would have - Easy to locate Dirty dirty dirty
Bathroom was filthy
Room was filthy
- Rachael (7/5): Very good alternative to a hostel - The beds were very comfortable, though two beds were pushed together and my plans I kept falling down the middle as they separated I didn’t like that they two single beds were pushed together to make a double and that they kept separating in the middle of the night, also there were no tea spoons to stir the tea
- Sophie (1/5): Social service housing here. - Do not book to stay here!! Police in the building all night banging doors as it's a social service stay. Didn't sleep a wink bed was wet! Bathroom wasn't clean nothing was clean. Windows are terrible. The list goes on. Just let the social use it if I was you. None of it.
- Chris (1/5): Absolutely diabolical place to stay, you'd wipe your feet on the way out. - Absolutely nothing. Entrance had holes in stair carpet. Room was dirty, Skid marks in the toilet, Broken light fitting with wires showing, 2 single beds with dirty sheets on when it should have been a double bed.
- Mark (8/5): God price good value 👍 - Good price ideal for a night stay when attending a wedding in the area. Pub downstairs and nice restaurant across the road
- Douglas (7/5): - It was accessable,clean and quiet. I'm not a fussy person,nothing comes to mind
- tony (6/5): -
- KELVIN (6/5): - It was just okay nothing interesting
- Iona (1/5): Don’t go - First of all arrived there woman girl was not helpful we had to cross dual road to a restaurant to get a key then cross back went back inside to be told it’s out side round corner dark alley full off loose rubbish like beer cans food waste the got inside building not knowing when the stairs carpet was last hoovered then got inside our room you can hear everything from down stairs in the pub whole night and when the pub loch up closed customers or workers stood outside talking for ages finally bought other room guests it was bad running on down the stairs 4 an no none there to report issues Very loud
- Jennifer (5/5): Okay for the money - No
Breakfast included Not knowing we had to pick up keys and park at a different location
And the guy who checked us in kept telling me I wasn’t booked for that particular day
He didn’t know what he was doing
- Caitlin (9/5): Would reccomend! - Great size, clean & perfect for what we needed.
- Gillian (9/5): Great value for money. Thanks for having us. - The rooms were clean and spacious. Nice comfy bed and large shower. Fantastic value for money. Perhaps not the most beautiful rooms but great value for money for somewhere to lay your head. I would return. There was no hairdryer? Or perhaps I couldn't find it!
- Daljeet (2/5): - No hot water in bath. I had to get bath with ice cold water.
- Matthew (7/5): Good all rounder - Good all rounder. Good value . Just be careful of the discos All good get what you pay for
- Thomas (8/5): Basic room which was excellent value and ideal for what I required. - Ideal for what I needed in that it is excellent value and basic room with en suite shower which was all I required for breaking up a journey and quick catch up with friends . I'm originally from Hamilton so I know the location of where to collect the room keys in the Spice restaurant across Bothwell Road and where to park. I was also aware of the issue of Noise from the pub Karaoke below the room I was in - which finished at 0100 on a Friday. It wasn't a problem for me as I was out of the room till 0030 anyway but might be an issue for some guests if you don't know that beforehand or don't research the reviews about a weekend Stay. There isn't an Iron or ironing board available at the venue. I did phone up and ask before if they could get a hold of one but wasn't provided.
The quality of Hamilton Karaoke singers has not improved !!
The outside areas around the side entrance were quite messy and run down.
- Natalia (1/5): -
- Mcintosh (4/5): Never again - Not much to be fair Tv not working called the owner who told us it was down to previous guests stealing the remote so we had to do with no tv all night. decor old and musty. The beds seemed to be on a slant and no matter what u did u would roll to centre of bed and disappear down between the 2 singles pushed to gether to make a double so hardly slept a wink
- muir (4/5): Okay, prop wouldn’t recommend it - Not much, room was very boring, WiFi and tv wasn’t working correctly, plus the pub was far too loud down the stairs Bad WiFi; room far to small, pub to loud
- Kenneth (6/5): Comfortable, clean but we almost didn’t go in!!!! - The bedroom was very clean, it belied the condition of the building. The building entrance and building itself were in great need of a major renovation.
- Shirley (4/5): -
- Reg (8/5): - Easy check in
- lorraine (9/5): - Nice and comfy, spacious with 2 beds
Good location N/a
- Helen (5/5): The hotel was shabby, but the staff were very welcoming - Welcoming staff. Enjoyed the karaoke. Shabby place
- Jeff (6/5): The lowest price I could find in the area. It was fair. Noise from the pub, as should be expected. - Good Wi-Fi. Large bathroom. Warm towels. The rooms are above a pub. If you want to go to bed early and you are a light sleep, consider elsewhere. It's a bit beat up. Very little has been invested in the amenities.
- Longmuir (1/5): - I was unable to access my room. I went to the hotel and was directed to the 'reception' which turned out to be in a restaurant at another location across the road.
The staff were incompetent, unhelpful and slightly rude. They claimed they did not have my booking, despite me giving them my name and booking number.
I tried to resolve the issue with booking.com and was poorly received by AI chatbots and human operators who had a poor grasp of English. I called and was cut off three times
Seven hours later, after I had secured alternative accommodations and fifteen minutes before the latest check in time (9.30pm, the email arrived at 9.15) I got an email saying my room was ready. A complete joke. Everything. The entire experience was stressful, frustrating and exhausting. I will not be using Booking.com again as a result of this encounter. I feel misled, dismissed and ultimately ripped off by this entire episode and will not be paying to go through it again.
I would expect a refund, but I know it would be impossible to achieve so I will just be withdrawing my custom from Booking.com.
- Carole (8/5): Cheap enough - Close enough to Glasgow central. Free parking. Nice shower. We requested double bed and got twins, couldn't be bothered to ask them to change it.
- Elaine (8/5): -
- Stephen (8/5): Overall pleasent - Good clean room and bedding. Shower powerful and hot tea and coffe available Some other guest a bit rowdy
- Lesley (10/5): Handy and comfortable for an overnight stay. - Convenient, well priced, comfortable, clean.
Single room with adequate space, comfortable bed, and good spacious shower room.
Parking across the road behind Indian restaurant where I also dined and the staff were very accommodating. It's not glamorous, but it would cost a lot more if it was! Suited my needs perfectly.
- John (7/5): Very adequate for the price we paid - Cheap and clean Noisy at night from
The pub but liveable
- Sam (8/5): - Ideal as a stop off point for travelling. Not picturesque in location but easy to access from the A74. A pleasant night's stay.
- Lee (8/5): - Noise from bar and main road okish
- Christopher (6/5): - Very noisy room above pub with very late disco
- Terry (8/5): Overall my stay was very good and l will definitely be back next year. - No breakfast provided. The only thing was the noise from the bar late into the night.
- Rose (8/5): Pleasant would stay again - Clean warm and affordable Radiator in room didn’t work. A little noisy but not too bad
- Colin (8/5): - Felt the room was a bit tired and could do with an upgrade
Apart from check-in didn’t have any interactions with any staff
Suited my needs for the night
- Aysha (8/5): - It was a nice ensuite room, it was clean but amenities were not good, TV was not working, Internet was slow. Although there were complementary tea and coffee was provided but the electric kettle was not working properly. Bathroom was clean and amenities were placed in. Overall it was not bad in such a low price.
- James (5/5): Good value for money, but a very active and noisy pub. - Affordable, parking over the road, fantastic Indian food (from same owners) and plenty of shops and takeaways nearby. Clean enough (bit tatty in parts, but to be expected at this price) When I booked this place, I noted the reviews that the pub below was a noisy one, many noting karaoke etc that runs through the night. I was going during a midweek, and actually thought the pub was closed, but oh boy was I wrong! The music is pumped up, and they cycle through random music mid-song which is really strange and completely kills any chance of sleep; imagine drifting away to a fantastic rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody only to be suddenly interrupted mid-song with an epic bass ridden version of "Hit me One More Time" by Britney Spears. And yes, I suspect it is karaoke, and it's obviously a popular with the locals. This obviously got up the nose of one of my neighbouring parties, as he caused a bit of a scene and police were called; it was an... interesting night (bad behaviour of this guy was no fault of the hotel of course, but still...)
It wasn't until after midnight the music died down, and actually not too bad of a night after that. Value for money this place is fine, just need to be aware that it's going to be noisy.
- John (7/5): -
- Marie (6/5): Comfy bed - The biggest issue was slamming doors from rooms & the outside pub door was under our room was going all night music banging .But most noise from other people in rooms.should be a sign to be considerate to other guests.
Also label keys better as someone putting keys in our door then constantly trying to get in until I went to door to tell him.No hot water for shower in morning .
Plenty of coffees left in room though
- Joginder (8/5): - Good location, the room was clean and tidy. We only stopped one night and we found the room comfortable and good value for money. We stayed midweek and didn't experience any noise from the pub below. You get a 10% discount if you order your food from the Indian restaurant where you collect the key. On a very busy main road, collecting the keys and trying to cross the road to get to the room was challenging. You have to carry your suitcase up a flight of stairs, however, this was made clear in the description. I wouldn't recommend the rooms for elderly people.
- Joe (10/5): -
- Heather (4/5): I would not stay here again - Not a lot
The entrance stairway was dirty not a good start As above
Also the TV did not work at all
The noise from the bar downstairs was horrendous and went on until midnight some sound proofing is needed
- David (7/5): -
- Richard (5/5): It was okay for 1 night but it’s basic - Staff very very good and easy to contact and allowed early checkin. Location not great and very basic. I imagine noise levels could be bad at this property as thin walls etc and many rooms.
- Barry (8/5): -
- Labana (8/5): I would stay there again - Akram Mohammad the owner ...
A very fair and ethical chap. The staff like him a lot. No hot water...
But that issue will be addressed.
- Alan (8/5): - Room was nice but noisy when window was open, not a great location above a closed pub but price was ok for 1 night
- Thomas (3/5): - Pub was nothing to do with the hotel The beds was vernier uncomfortable
- Ian (4/5): Adequate for what I needed. - Location was fine, met my needs. Room was fine, large bed, good bathroom. Although advertised as providing accommodation and breakfast, there was no breakfast !!. It was ok, but I would not reccomend it other than on price.
- ian (10/5): -
- Barry (8/5): Very good -
- ian (10/5): - Everything about the room was great. They are above the pub which looks a bit shabby from the outside but inside is tidy, well run and the locals are really friendly. For anyone going to the horseracing this place is perfect!! Recommend!! Good value!!
Also, bus stops to the town centre and stations outside, brilliant!!
- Tracey (6/5): -
- Bashiru (3/5): No fan ,no ac, - No breakfast No milk ,just coffee and sugar, bad mattresses, bad wood under mattress, old rugs,
- Desmond (10/5): Exceptional -
- Muhammad (8/5): - Is ok not great
- Kay (8/5): Very good - Good cheap contractors accommodation
- Billy (9/5): Nice stay over - Nice location for my visit,, large room with comfortable bed and a really nice shower, towels and soap provided and the normal tea and coffee tray was in the room, good value for the money in my opinion,
The room is above a very popular pub and next to a busy road, looking forward to my next stay. No tv remote
- Dale (4/5): Disappointing - Rooms were as shown. And for the price reasonable value. We booked rooms 3, 4 and 5. Quality bedlinen supplied. Bathroom in room 4 has excessive mould.. the silicon and grout needs to be replaced. All rooms booked were directly above the pub.... so very noisy. Also with the location being on a busy road and no fans supplied,..... the rooms were hot. No mini fridge or microwave. And pub below does not do meals. We weren't given arrival or access directions so did not know that the pick up point for keys was in the Indian restaurant across the road.would have also been helpfull to know that that was where parking was. Mattress was old . Could feel the springs.
- Anthony (8/5): Not to far from Hamilton town centre car ride 5 mins walking 10 to 15 mins - Enjoyed my stay there , nice clean , good value was there for 5 nights Monday to Saturday downstairs pub only opens Tuesday till Sunday. Nice pub to. Can be a little noisy only because people going in and out of rooms that it really
- Ian (2/5): Memorable for all of the wrong reasons - Not much Cleanliness was poor, noise in the evening was exceptionally loud
- Sarahlouise (7/5): Good -
- David (3/5): Poor visit - Bar was cheap below Beds were just slabs of wood on legs
Music playing till midnight
Rooms wasn't cleaned
Car park and check in was other side of duel carriage way - no crossing
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Zuheb (1/5): Bad - Rooms were good but of no use due to noise. Bar and club downstairs. Too much noice and people. It's not good for families at all. You wouldn't be able to sleep.
- Ron (8/5): Cheap and cheerful - Good location
- sharon (2/5): - The only good thing was its proximity to my work!!! I was placed in a room over the bar with live music playing til 0001. I had no temote for my TV it was requested on the first night but never received. I certainly WILL NOT stay there again.
- Mary (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jon (8/5): Very good -
- Alan (8/5): Great stay - Location to race course and train station bus stop outside took you into Glasgow pub below was great after the races and Saturday night karaoke Indian restaurant opposite was great value The only thing no hot water for couple days but it got sorted
Cold shower🥶
- Eley (6/5): Pleasant -
- Ally (7/5): Good -
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Zbikowski (1/5): Please avoid at all costs. - Nice window room. However could always smells cigarettes coming in from beer garden. Ridicilous amount of noise coming from the pub which was not mentioned at all this was blaring music every night so much so I could feel the bass in my room also the lack of parking. First night also did not have any hot water and when it eventually did come on you couldnt switch off the radiators.
- Robert B (10/5): - Provided a room which was comfortable at very reasonable cost. The only downside is the Kareoae in the Bar which goes on until midnight. But I took part !
- Paul (1/5): Complaint - Clean room. I called the spice restaurant twice between 9.30pm 10pm to complain the heating was off and there was no hot water either to shower or shave. Both times I was told someone would contact me and no one ever did. Terrible service. I couldn't shower or shave properly for my important meeting today. Id like a full refund as this should be basic services in any overnight stay. Not happy!
- COLIN (8/5): - Ideal if working this area reasonably priced.
- Vicci (3/5): Don't stay if you want to be asleep before 1am - Spacious room, good shower, bed was comfy TV didn't work so went and bought an ariel.
Friday night karaoke till 1am, ridiculously loud, room was vibrating.
Saturday night karaoke till 12 same again stupidly loud. Don't expect to sleep before these hours.
Don't fetch kids.
- Mairhri (6/5): Disappointing - Beds and pillows were comfortable, shower pressure was great. Not being aware the key and 'onsite' parking were across a busy road.
Being injured by a nail sticking out from the bed base whilst trying to remedy a migrating mattress.
Dirty/stained grouting in one lower section of the shower.
- Christopher (8/5): Good budget room - Priced well. Clean. Pub below was a little noisey until midnight
- Stan (1/5): You need to be blind drunk to sleep here!! - Nothing....read on to next comment.
Totally spoiled our stay! The room is directly over a pub with a raging karaoke going on until the early hours. Totally unacceptable!
- Gary (10/5): Exceptional - This was an excception stay.
Clean , tidy , and friendly with Sky tv in room.
Plenty of Tea and Coffe and loads of sugars and milk no skimping. Nothing
- Billy (8/5): Value for money - The location was good for my away stay, my room was clean and comfortable for the solo traveller, my bed was comfortable and I had a good night's sleep, it was a good sized bedroom and en suite, good shower with soap and towels provided, The room had the standerd tea and coffee tray. I collected my room key from the restaurant directly across the road and it was the perfect place for a meal also. My bed was comfortable but it could do with a new mattress and bed base and the tv signal was poor.
- Winnie (7/5): Worth the money but not a penny more! - Clean and basic The bathroom door would not close properly
Bathroom window had a big crack on it
Weird unstaffed setup and had to cross the dual carriageway to fetch the keys from a restaurant!
