Guest Reviews
- Layth (10/5): - Clean, quite, minimal, and close to train station
- Verified traveler (6/5): Convenient location but would not recommend a stay - The rooms were in a convenient location. Unfortunately 2 of our rooms were incredibly noisy from street noise. We could not open a window due to the noise so it was very hot and only one fan was available. One set of sheets had blood stains on it and when asked to change the sheets there was a communication barrier and it did not happen despite multiple requests. The hotel is not a traditional hotel with a lobby rather it is rooms in an apartment building.
- Marco (4/5): - Polvere, polvere ovunque.
Tolle, zentrale Lage. Rezeption nur per Email erreichbar. Gerne wieder.
- Christoph (8/5): - Station Taxi vor der Tür, U-Bahn-Station Café rundum
- Franco (8/5): - Excelente. Para recomendar
- Notburga (10/5): - Alles so wie beschrieben. War sehr zufrieden.
- Bastian (8/5): - Alles da was man braucht, nichts außergewöhnliches. Für einen Kurzaufenthalt völlig ausreichend!
- Richard (8/5): Good Location - Quaint area with easy access to the Weisn.
- Timothy (6/5): - This is a very spartan property. Reception was only open for a few hours everyday. So when Delta lost our bags the airport couldnt deliver them as they couldnt reach the desk. We also tried calling reception and the emergency number they provide without an answer. So be very careful about locking yourself out of a room. The property is actually a 1950 office building with two floors converted to rooms. One floor has a drug and alcohol rehab, a spanish school and Uzbek Airways. Rooms are secure and provide a place to bed and bathe. Nothing else. We walked everywhere and this property is right in between the Thereiweisen and Rathaus with a short 15 min walk to the Hauptbahnhof (though the Ubahn is right across the street we chose the walk). Parking seems like it would be impossible but plenty of rental bikes and scooters at the ubahn. The staff we met were pleasant and helpful but they are obviously only there to reset rooms and clean the halls. The street it is on is very busy for the emergency services, so lots of sirens all night. Nice place if you are looking for a bed, not so much if you are looking for a hotel.
- Mark (6/5): - Very close and walkable to Octoberfest, with that comes noise and without air conditioning and open windows for cooling…it can get noisy. Be aware of check in procedures if you come in at off hours, the electronic access provided by email worked great.
- Phineas (10/5): - Very convenient for Oktoberfest
- Szu Fang (10/5): - Had checked in the Mona for twice, satisfied with everything here, pretty much enjoying.
- Sabrina (8/5): - Super mit Schlüssel Code - Lage top!
- Thea (6/5): - Sehr laut , keine Zimmerreinigung
- Simone (8/5): - .
- Verified traveler (10/5): Monaco 25/07/2024 - Camera comoda, ottimo rapporto qualità prezzo
- Katharina (8/5): - Viele Einkaufsmöglichkeiten, Bäcker, Drogerie, Supermarkt,…. U-Bahn in direkter Nähe
- Matthew (6/5): - Room was very hot. Street is very loud at night. So window open = loud room, window closed = hot room
Other than that, this place is pretty good.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Hotel is fine. Basic. No frills. Good location by being close to the U-bahn and walking distance to much of the centre. Very noisy though as it's next to a main road and with no a/c the windows have to be open. Also no HDMI plug in on TV.
- Lazaros (6/5): Nice location, nice flats, bad services. - Nice flats but bad service. The lack of proper reception (reportedly open 10:00-14:00, but not guaranteed) generates doubts about entry to the building, problems for luggage storage etc. Generally reception personnel was too stiff and slightly arrogant (they didn’t even accept not having sent me the code to open the building door and I had to show them the mail to receive an answer « well we have sent you the older version of the mail ». Moreover, they entered my room and arbitrarily turned off the heating but didn’t care enough to empty the dustbin… In total, clean and spacious enough but service far from satisfying.
- cris (10/5): - Perfekt. Zimmer sauber. Alles vorhanden.
U-Bahn genau vor der Haustür.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Advance Check in bed - Nice room, great location.
NO SERVICE outside 1200-1400, make sure you contact them at least 24h on advance to get non contact check in details.
- Luke Steven (4/5): - Overall we were very disappointed with our stay. Starting with the room not being as advertised on Expedia. We were in a tiny box room. Queen bed was 2 singles pushed together with 2 single duvets sheets. Shower looked fantastic however black/brown grime was dripping from shower door from the shower floor and mould on the window blinds. We also tried to contact the property online however we had no response the whole trip. They had no baggage storage, which wasn’t advertised but you usually expect thin from a decent hotel. The elevator is extremely loud, as is the whole building as you can hear everything. Personally I wouldn’t class our experience as a hotel, but more like an air bnb apartment. If you want just a bed and shower and nothing else the hotel is fine for a few days.
- Arith (10/5): - Everything was good, great staff.
- Pablo (10/5): - Located in front of a Underground enter, very accessible and you have access to restaurants and markets easily. 20 min walking to Marienplatz or 2 stops by Underground.
The hotel has a very easy concept to self services, everything is easy to access and Luis always ready to help.
Very good relationship between price and services
- KAREN (10/5): - A great stay and value for money for a solo Traveller
- jo (6/5): - This was probably an office before they made several hotel rooms on floors 3&4 of the building. There is no lobby and no staff on site. Our shower flooded the bathroom and bedroom ..there was no one to contact. There wasn't even a glass in the bathroom .no AC so slept with the windows open and it's on a very busy and noisy street. No closet or drawers. A few shelves and 4 hangers on wall hooks. For $85 it's a good deal. But we paid $300 during Oktoberfest which is only a 10 minute walk away. So thumbs up on location.
- Ramon (10/5): - There is no front desk, only a check-in that lasts from around 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., they provide a key and combo to a locker if you can't make it. We scheduled to arrive at that time, and check-in was flawless, the gentlemen held our bags and then helped us carry them up the last flight of stairs, it was on the 6th floor and the elevator only goes to the 5th floor. The room was bigger than most European rooms and it had a fan, a Dyson fan!!! I loved that. 6-minute walk to Oktoberfest.
- Andrea D (2/5): - This property is not really a hotel. It’s in a building with other businesses. The hallways are very loud. It’s all concrete and grey, looks like prison cells. Zero things on the wall etc. very basic. There is no reception and you can’t get ahold of anyone that works there. There are no employees on sight. We tried for 3 days to get a hold of an employee since we had an issue. They were also doing demotion of one of the offices so we had incredible noise and very little sleep. Save your money! Run away from this property.
- Y3405UUjeanh (4/5): room in a concrete office block - I would not describe this as a hotel. It is an office block, no staff, just notices about how to get your key. Concrete floors, narrow corridors, narrow lift. The room was clean and pleasant but this is a concrete box, not a hotel. Why is it called a hotel?
- Asher (4/5): Avoid! - I think the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. So barren. Desperate need for a paint job or even just some industrial cleaning. Nice mattress and worst pillows ever. No air conditioning. So of course you want the windows open. All night you hear the noise from the street, smell the smoke from the people smoking that flows consistently into your room, and the noise of people yelling and blasting audio from their computers or something else means you are woken up constantly. Not even a fan in the room. No reception desk. I was supposed to receive and email with check in codes. Never got it. Nice guy there from time to ti w to help but most the time no one is there. It’s an office building where the top floors are hotel rooms. Elevator worked on and off which sucks royally with luggage. Can not recommend.
- Susumu (2/5): - Checkin service and preparation for extra person
- Leanne (4/5): - The location was good, within easy walking distance of shops, cafes etc. Check in went smoothly with codes provided to access our room key. Others weren’t so lucky - we come across three guys one night whose room key was not in their box! Reception (one guy in a small office on same floor) only open for a few hours in the morning. Our last night there we went out for some food to find on our return the entrance door was stuck, u able to open (The door handle had been dodgy the whole time we were there - it even had sticky tape around the handle area) We tried pushing, kicking at the door and calling out for someone inside but to no avail. After about 40mins a young couple arrived. The guy tried calling/texting the reception but no reply. In the end he asked us if it was ok to kick out the door and naturally we said go for it! On his first attempt he slammed it out 👍😂 we were so lucky he happened along.
The next morning we checked out, no sign of the guy in reception by 9am!
- Samj16 (10/5): Loved staying here - Loved staying here! Nice room with the ability to open the windows. Black out curtains. Great shower. Close to the train station, Paulaner brewery, supermarket and laundry. 20 minute walk to old town, or 1 minute walk to train station and 4 minute train. No staff on site 24/7 but staff are around in the morning and if you need something they are extremely responsive to emails. We really enjoyed staying here. Great price for Munich.
- samantha (10/5): - Loved staying here! Nice room with the ability to open the windows. Black out curtains. Great shower. Close to the train station, Paulaner brewery, supermarket and laundry. - 444minervah (8/5): Architectural sleekness in modern rooms - 10-min straight beeline walk from main train station, cafe, supermarket & pharmacy by front door. Wonderfully sleek & modern rooms, maintained in tiptop shape, care given to every detail. Hairdryer & TV in room. Well-organised check-in procedure. Perfect for city getaway.
- 791jessicae (10/5): Perfect stay - So I see some old and untrue reviews on here. So I’m going to update that because we have just had a lovely week at Mons Hotel. The room was absolutely spotless on arrival, brand new refurb by the looks of it- really on trend design, we loved it. The room was serviced daily (although we were not informed of this it was a nice touch). I’m not sure on their routine because each day they did something different, one day bed, the next day rubbish only, next day towel change. Didn’t bother me but found it odd that they would make the bed and leave the rubbish or take the rubbish and leave the bed haha. Anyway more observation than Issue and like I say we weren’t expected any bed making so no issues here.
Didn’t find it noisy particularly, it’s a city so will never be silent. It was perfect for us, brilliant location, right opposite UBahn to Marienplatz which takes 3 mins. Or you could walk there I. 25mins.
Coffee shops and supermarket on doorstep.
I enjoyed the no fuss check in, got clean instructions on how to access our room. All in all for a week long city break this was great.
Thank you :) would defo come again.
Oh and there is a fridge and coffee machine and glasses provided. Great tv too, we logged into our Netflix no issues. Also had a small balcony which we weren’t expecting so that was good!
- T3065ZIanamarian (10/5): Very nice new design rooms - We were this week in this little new design hotel because of the concert at the city, It seems like new refurbished Hotel , the rooms have a nice new design and the team of the hotel was available at everytime for every question , thank you very much for this stay!
- smokester1 (6/5): Good location -- But so Noisy inside - I paid a relatively modest nightly rate from Euros 37 - 50 per night (weekends were costlier) during a November 2019 winter trip to Munich. I certainly can't complain about the price and the location was pretty darn convenient. The hotel literally faces the escalator as you emerge from the Goetheplatz subway station (Exit D). The building is a mixed use building of shops on the ground floor, and offices above. Reception is on the 3rd floor and most of the rooms are on the 4th floor with an internal stairwell connecting between floors. There are 2 shared showers/toilets down the hall that are clean and well maintained. Overall the hotel has a contemporary, stylish, simple design (which I personally like): white on white new furnishings with a few brown accents. My room had a large sink area for getting ready and a place to spread out your bathroom products. Also nicely sized, with a table/chair in the corner, flat screen TV (bad antenna reception, but I wasn't there to watch TV), and a large floor to ceiling slider and small balcony looking into a courtyard. The hotel mostly has either clean white tile hallway floors, or bleached hardwood bedroom floors. The no carpeting design means they can keep things very clean and carpets would only get old and shabby looking. Housekeeping was efficient. The bed was comfortable and sheets were a crisp white. The new furnishings and fixtures meant things were easy to clean, which I appreciated. BUT this place was NOISY! Not external noise -- internal noise. Room keys consisted of 5 or so heavy brass keys on a key ring that really clanked loudly in the non-carpeted hallways. Every time a guest entered or left their room, the spring latches in the door locks clicked so loudly and echoed in the non carpeted hallways, that you could hear it all! These were the noisiest, springiest door locks ever! No way to do it quietly (I tried to be considerate) and the heavy brass key chain ornament clanged on your wood door like crazy. Forget about if someone walked down the hallways in heels! The clacking noise was very noticeable. Carpeted hallways and less noisy door locks would have really made a difference. I was reminded of those noisy contemporary restaurant: all hard surfaces, with no soft surfaces to absorb the sound, so even when the restaurant barely has customers, chatter is echoey and loud. At night there was a very annoying electronic sound every few minutes -- like a mobile phone's email notification sound. I think the front desk had a computer that sounded each time it got a message all night long. With hard surfaces everywhere, this electronic sound reverberated up the main stairwell and throughout the hallways (even though reception was on the lower floor). Also the room walls were very permeable. Any conversation could be heard and I had an adjacent guest with a bad cough who kept going one night, non stop. I have to give this place a C grade overall rating, despite its cleanliness, new design, new furnishings and easy location.
- Ordinz (4/5): More Hostel than Hotel - The good things first: Excellent location in the center of town, puplic transport only meters away an lots of cafes and eatery s nearby. Communication was also good, we knew we would arrive late long after the reception had closed. We were given clear and courteous instructions how to get our room key.
Now to the not so nice things.
The place is pretty run down and in need of a good renovation. Our main room light did not work for instance. There were two common bathrooms booth outdated and tired. The room furniture is sparse to say the least, no means to store or hang clothes. We had a party going a few rooms down the ail and it was extremely noisy at times.
I would call it a hostel , certainly not a hotel. Also pictures of room's and facilities are misleading and dont reflect reality at all. We stayed for two night's, it was bearable but not pleasant.
- DeWaals (2/5): Hostel not a Hotel! - We arrived there on 17th June, in the middle of the scorching heatwave, to find, we had booked into what seemed to be a type of Hostel definitely not a hotel which is false advertising. We had to share a bathroom with other people and the toilets were not always clean. Other than that it is soooooooooooo noisy, people opening and closing doors all the time. It was sooooo hot and we could only open the windows, but then you can't sleep as ambulances and police cars have their sirens blaring and the traffic noises were disruptive as the hotel is at a busy intersection. We had a early check in arranged, but we ran a bit late and when we did check in, our room was not ready and we were told by the grumpy cleaner, that she was not finished.
Not the type of accommodation I hoped it would be and was left quite dissappointed.
- Megan (8/5): Good valye for money - It was a nice place, with a decent shared bathroom. The curtains however didnt cover the full windows so it got quite light in the mornings which woke us up but aside that a very pleasant stay.
- newnewyew (10/5): Great location - deserves better reviews. - I get the feeling that a lot of the negative reviews here come from people who might not have traveled in Europe before or perhaps had one minor bad experience and blasted it with out of proportion bad reviews. For example, the people griping about the temperature might not have understood how to work the radiator, which was right under the window in our room (we visited in December, and the temperature was perfect without having to adjust anything. My husband even had to kick off the blankets in the night).
There was absolutely, 100% a bathroom inside our room, if it matters.
The staff was very accommodating and polite, the price was excellent, especially considering it's maybe 40 meters away from a train station and within walking distance of every kind of minor convenience you might need (restaurants or pharmacies or the like). Next time we are in München, we will stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great hotel. Right next to the train station. - Very clean and comfortable. The size was great for the price we paid. There was a television, free WiFi, and we could have had breakfast right there at the hotel if we wanted. Best of all, the location is incredibly convenient. The train station is right across the street and there are plenty of stores (markets, restaurants, pharmacies, clothing stores, ect) within a short walking distance. Well worth the modest price. Next time we're in München, we'll be staying here again.
- Lyndsa45 (2/5): Worst - DONOTBOOK here absolutely awful filthy dirty hole is all I can say !!!! On line booking systems don’t care they will let you booked anything as long as they receive there commission... don’t be caught out by this dead dog !!! In fact sleeping on a dead dog would be more comfortable and smell better than this poor excuse of a hotel ... and I use the word lightly !! The place is a dump .. the place is filthy dirty with shared bathroom... complete with skids down the toilet ... carpets are filthy as is everything else !! You share a bathroom with 10 or so other rooms ... so don’t be fooled by there brochure photos as nothing about them is real !! .. if I’d of purchased this service anywhere I’d of had a fighting chance of my money 💰 back ... seriously ppl DONOTBOOK
- sadieg218 (10/5): Perfect place to stay for Oktoberfest - Fantastic walkable distance from
Oktoberfest. (10 mins) We were a little sceptical after booking and viewing the reviews however it exceeded all our expectations. I’m not sure why there are negative reviews. Myself and my friend travel for a living and we were happy with our stay. Hotel was easy to find. Staff were super friendly and welcoming. Rooms were up to date. Beds super comfy. Everything you need for a short stay! Road wasn’t too noisy, it’s a city after all. Will definatley stay here again for the Oktoberfest next year
- 420justine (6/5): Oktoberfest weekend - Went for this hotel due to price, Oktoberfest is not cheap. Location is 10/10 but a lot of noise from the road, the room was clean. As a couple we had to push to beds together and it was very uncomfortable however this was stated in ad but the issue was the mattress couldn’t be pushed together as they are counter sunk into the bed this was the only negative about the hotel. My main worry was the shared bathroom and toilet but even on this busy weekend they were clean. So for a few days I would recommend if you are on a budget around Oktoberfest.
- NealHocking (6/5): Does the job - Hotel Mons ticks a lot of boxes - it's located right on top of an U-Bahn station, it's pretty quiet and it's pretty clean. It's also not too far from the Hauptbahnhof, historical centre and even the park where Oktoberfest takes place, so there are plenty of positives.
It is, however, quite basic and may not be everyone's cup of tea. As a solo traveller it did the job, although the strange, space-age toilet in my room (in the middle of my room, I should say) decided to flush itself in the middle of the night at such a volume that it led me to believe the building was coming down.
I'd say quite a few of the previous reviews sum the hotel up pretty well and while it's by no means five star, it will make a lot of people happy.
- giorgiemes (8/5): Essential and clean - The hotel is in a very good position, close to the subway station and a few minutes from Marienplatz. The room is spatious and clean, the bed is comfortable. Only the sink and the shower were in our room, the bathroom was shared with other guests. Nevertheless, it was very clean. We went in January and the price per one night was high, but the lowest in Munich.
- SusanG1953 (8/5): Nice Staffed Pension with some improvements needed - After reading very mixed reviews, we booked Pension/Hotel Mons for three nights in September, just a few days before Oktoberfest began. I hope this review sheds light on the criticisms, and offers some suggestions for management. Positive: location, just steps from Goetheplatz U; staff, extremely friendly and helpful, let us drop off bags Sunday morning and put them into our room later, complementary water; outstanding breakfast, well worth the extra 9 euro, wonderful coffee, selection of meat, cheeses, fresh bread, fruit, cereal, boiled eggs; clean room and comfortable bed, spacious bathroom (for a pension) with hairdryer and towel, toiletry sets; the rooms are small but that is to be expected in this price range (we paid 140 euro per night but it was the week before festival), there is a desk and chair, small short closet. Cons: The first two nights there were two men in the room next to us who moved their chair a lot, talked loudly, and turned the TV too loud. The third night a gentleman was in that room and we heard nothing. I think the owners attempted to pad the wall between rooms, but should add insulation in the light/electric within walls, put pads under the chair legs, and post notices for people to be more courteous. I liked the concrete floors and white walls. If the owner used washable paint in the bathroom (higher quality), it would be easier to keep small specks off the walls. The owner should also do random checks after cleaning. One morning cleaning was perfect but the next morning a towel was left on the floor. The rainfall shower head may be faddish, I prefer the one that can be adjusted; and the shower curtain was positioned too high, allowing water onto the floor. Americans should realize that pensions often have rooms with shared baths (not obvious from website), and that some photos are from shared baths. We were on the third floor and did not see the rooms on other floors. Could use a couple more hooks (higher) for towels in the bathroom and coat hooks in main room. We put our bags under the desk for more room. I would come again if could be assured neighboring rooms had quiet guests. We did not use heat or cooling as it was September. Rear rooms face apartments, quiet back there. Front may be noisier as it is on a square with taxi traffic, but a one-way street so not so bad. Munich can certainly use more quiet, affordable pensions!
- Macasca (10/5): Bead and Breakfast - Hotel was very simple, but so clean. Stuff was very friendly. One of the three of us was a little late in booking, no problem at all, the stuff gave us another bed with a low additional charge of about 40 Euro. The only disadvantage was that the toilet was out in the corridor and most of the time it was occupied. Price was a little expensive, but that's probably because of the Oktoberfest.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Avoid - More hostel than hotel. Front desk closes at like 9 pm and no way to get in so don't be late. I was locked out all night. Location is good
- Verified traveler (4/5): Don't be fooled by the pictures-this is a hostel. - function but rooms were TINY. Thankfully we didn't have a shared bathroom (should be called hostel not. Hotel if you have to share a loo). The unexpected features in the room included a very old yellowed condom covering the fire alarm and a sliding bathroom door that will lock you in the toilet if you're not careful-like a big humid sarcophagus. Staff were friendly, helpful and attentive but overall, it was a bit grim in the flesh, despite the glamourous pictures.
- igorsa2015 (2/5): Beware! Almost died here of cold. Humiliated by staff. - Please read carefully, next visitor can die over here.
1) Please compare real pictures attached of hotel to booking com. That is cheating.
2) No toilet in picture - pay special attention.
3) I've been placed in 409 - corner room, from Nov 7 to Nov 10 the temperature inside this room in the night was so low, that i've almost frozen to death.
4) Hotel, better to say honestly hoStel, says on front page that you have shared bathroom, on 3rd page that you don't have toilet with tiny letters.
5) Staff on any complains smiles at you and laughs, humiliation of 10th degree
6) Room and facilities are dirty.
7) Price per night: 135 eur for such deadly experience
8) Lamp in the room is blinking - you really live like in horror movie
9) from 2004 year on tripadvisor: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187309-d1184206-Reviews-Hotel_Mons_am_Gotheplatz-Munich_Upper_Bavaria_Bavaria.html most honest reviews place 1 or 2 mark.
10) The noise and smell - i don't even want to start.. you can't sleep, and you can't live with this smell.
Unfortunately i was so stupid not to check tripadvisor, because i was looking at the price and pictures at booking com - which are great, but GREAT LIE.
Although you can NOT continue to lie and humiliate people. I got cold after visiting this one and couldn't do anything for work during 3 nights and mornings.
- Regie1234 (2/5): Cold and disgusting - Terrible is the right word to describe it. Traveling weekly around Europe, I have not seen a place or an attitude worse than here. I really hope other travelers avoid booking this miserable location in the future.
- 288sergey_ (2/5): NEVER BOOK THIS PLACE, ESPECIALLY IN WINTER - I stayed in more than 100 hotels of various levels, and this is my honest review on this place (cba to call this a hotel):
NO TOILET in the room
NO HEATING in the room
NO SOUND ISOLATION at all (can hear guests open/close doors from the different floor)
NO refurbishment in the entire hotel for ages
NO RESPECT from staff
WORST experience ever
- OlgaB2341 (2/5): No respect to clients! - Cold! Overpriced! Disrespectful!
No any attantion to clients claims. Sure would never attend again and so my friends and partners.
The most owfull is staff do nothind to improove the situation with low temperature.
