Guest Reviews
- John (7/5): Enjoyable atmosphere meeting people from other countries at the homestay - Friendly staff Sharing bathroom
- Katie (10/5): Wonderful staff made for a great stay! - The breakfast was simple but good with fresh local fruit. There’s also coffee and tea, toast and usually eggs. The highlight was the staff! George is a ray of sunshine and the owners had a relative visiting and she was especially welcoming. They were able to book activities for me as well. I was able to sleep really well but if you are a light sleeper you might hear dogs barking and road noise. That is probably true for most accommodations in Tonga.
- Hazel (10/5): Love dayspring lodge! - The staff were very friendly and helpful. The facilities were clean and its was easy to get to the town from here.
- Cam (9/5): Lovely people - Delightful family atmosphere
- Elena (10/5): Personalised and caring Tongan hospitality at its best! - The owners/operators were the the most welcoming and friendly hosts, providing all information about attractions, customs and catering for every need. The breakfast had local tropical fruit and I especially loved papaya. It was not a hard question for me to answer if I would stay at this property again, as I did come back and stayed another two nights after flying to the outer islands and before my international flight back home. Communication with the hosts was always very quick and useful. They also understood very clearly what foreign tourists might need or require, preempting some of my questions with very informative explanations. There are roosters around and neighbors' dogs that bark sometimes, so if you are a light sleeper, I would recommend bringing some earplugs. Otherwise, there was absolutely nothing that I did not like!
- halakitaua (10/5): I more relaxed and quiet more private - Staff are very helpful and friendly I like it all
- Mele Ofa (10/5): -
- Francisco Javier (9/5): Good experience - The kids were really helpful. The house is quite big and the breakfast was good :) Just the internet sometimes did not work very fast
- Francisco Javier (8/5): Good accomodation in Nuku´alofa - The guesthouse was big and clean. Breakfast was good and the kids who helped us were really friendly. Internet did not work very well at times
- Sarah (9/5): Simple, friendly and comfortable lodge - Friendly and homely atmosphere - like stepping into someone's home. The facilities were adequate and the bedroom upstairs facing the road was light-filled and well ventilated. The family were very helpful and flexible with our stay given limited bookings at the time. Breakfast of a boiled egg and fresh local fruit, and a small store next door to buy water, top up and imported snacks. All ok at the accommodation. Only to note that it takes 50 minutes to walk to Nuku'alofa town, and a taxi can get you there for TOP $7 - make sure you can make local calls on your mobile phone and ask for the phone number of a local taxi company as they don't come by very often.
- Bryan (5/5): - Having a conversation with the host to learn about the Tongan way of life.
- Christine (7/5): Great kitchen/ dining/ courtyard view. Rooms had insect screens and were lockable which was good -
- Pui Kwan (8/5): -
- Alessandro (10/5): Family Vibe - will come back :) - Hospitality, Felt like at home and met many friendly people Was a bit far from town, but didn’t mind to walk 35min :)
- B KO (9/5): -
- Juan (8/5): -
- Angharad (8/5): Good value for money and great host - Selena was extremely kind and helpful got all queries, and helped get me to the ferry port for 'Eua early in the morning, as well as helped me hire a car for the day.
Lots of fruit for breakfast and space if you wanted to keep some food in the fridge.
Nice little garden/patio area to relax.
No air con but a very good fan in the room. The room would have been better from a deeper clean or a lick of paint as it was looking a bit tired.
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Robert (8/5): Very good - Nice breakfast, place has a lovely homey feel, Selena and the lads were very kind and helpful, quiet, almost semi-rural area Everything was good, accommodation is expensive in Tonga, but I can't imagine anywhere that provides the value for money of the Dayspring Lodge
- kuu-kanko (6/5): Dogs barking and roosters crowing throughout the night - The room was pretty basic, but the size was ok. No aircon and a shared bathroom. The mosquito net on the window had some holes in it and there were occasional mosquitos in the room.
My stay would have been good if there would have been no noise in the night, but there was - mostly dogs barking and roosters crowing in the neighbourhood, but also a loud bell ringing at 4:30 AM.
The location was in a suburb. I used taxis and transfers to get around.
The WiFi was good and it was included in the room price.
I arrived in the middle of the night and contacted the lodge in advance to arrange getting in. They said they would send someone to pick me up from the airport (for the same price as a taxi), but no one was there. I then took a taxi. The taxi driver called someone who knew the host and after several minutes of knocking on the door and windows he managed to wake up the son of the host, who let me in.
- Bénédikte (8/5): Great place to stay - Very welcoming family, always kind and helpful.
Thanx very much for everything..
Very good location.
- Tulukinga (10/5): - Very mordern, clean and beautiful
- Stephen (5/5): Passable -
- Nicola (10/5): Home away from home at the DaySprings lodge - I absolutely loved the home away from home feel of the lodge. The staff are so welcoming and Selina and the boys are wonderful hosts.
Thank you so much for also inviting me to your church that truly was a highlight of my trip and the delicious fruit and avocados each morning for breakfast. My room was so comfortable, I was given two fans and the bathroom was clean and shower 🚿 nice hot water and pressure. I also enjoyed chilling in the lounge area with Masuil, apologies if I spelt his name wrong but we put face masks on and relaxed it was great. As a solo female traveller I'd highly recommend this lodge to anyone who is planning a trip to Tonga. Unfortunate but one morning someone outside was burning and smoke came in through my room which was unpleasant and set the fire alarms off but once we closed the windows and doors it helped.
- Denis (6/5): - The review is for Expedia. The information provided on the website does not match the property.
1. the front desk is not available 24-7, there is no front desk.
2. There is no laundry has identified. Washing clothes is by hand only, or having the owner of the property do a load for a fee.
3. The is not an hotel, it is a lodge. It is a house where someone is renting rooms, there are 6 bedrooms with shared washrooms, one on each floor.
4. Breakfast was included and was very good.
5. The rooms were very clean.
The 4.6 rating that I saw is too high. It is more a 2 to 2.5.
- TULUKINGA TALIAULI (10/5): - Locations and hospitality
- Mele (9/5): Superb - The host was so understandable and everyone was so friendly. Loved our stay there. Would love to do it again.
- Shane (8/5): Friendly Island, Friendly hosts, Safe Place. - I liked the friendly, family atmosphere. There was nothing not to like about it. For budget accommodation, i fully recommend it.
- Ari (10/5): Great place, highly recommend! -
- Silvio (9/5): Superb - I liked a lot the welcoming from Masio. The small Manger of this Homestay. And also the Breakfast with everyday fresh fruits from the Island i appreciate. The Rooms are well cleaned how is possible. And also the Support from all people they look for the accommodation was so beautiful. They help when they can. To be honest you on an Island. But some Magic in the air of Tongatapu. For the Future would be nice they have AC in the Rooms. Because it could be so hot in there. But they have Airvents that helps a bit. But the rest is fine and for that price Fair.
- Yen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Balazs (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chris (10/5): - The fresh fruit in the morning, the relaxed atmosphere, the incredible host and family really enhanced my overall experience. This is the first time in my life I have visited another country and felt like I was staying with family (in a good way 😉)
- Asia (10/5): Love dayspring lodge - Love this stay! The family vibe is amazing here, and the breakfast is large and good. Really friendly staff and so so clean. Many places to chill and lounge, and extremely welcoming atmosphere
- Emily (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pawel (8/5): Good for short stay - First of all there are some misinformations on hotels.com. The property doesn’t have pool and owner preferred currency is not USD. Owner and her sons were very nice, helped us how they could. There are two small shops just next door and if you rent a car there’s a place to park it. It takes around 1hr to walk to the city center and restaurants (there are few within 20-30 min walk but those in town are way better). They have a shuttle available for 60TOP (local taxis take 50). There’s no AC in the room, only fan which was a bit uncomfortable at nights. Breakfast consist of fruits (papaya, pineapple, banana, watermelon) and toasts. Room door can be tricky, we locked it with key inside by mistake and were waiting for 5hrs for someone to help us get in. On the last day we were told we can leave out bags free of charge but when in the afternoon we came back to collect it later we were asked to pay extra 50$ for late check out (??).
- Michael (10/5): Dayspring Lodge is worth the stay - The owner and her family were wonderful and very hospitable. The brekkie was a nice assortment of local fruit and toast. She arranged for a ride from the airport with a nice, local man. I definitely recommend this place. Like it or not, animal sounds at night come with the territory. I was surprised at hearing roosters at midnight and 2 am, but that's what gives it the island feel. Dogs bark too, but I'm used to that in Fiji. The mosquitos were not as bad as I heard from others. Just be forewarned, as the windows are the standard windows you see on every island home, so you hear the night noises.
- Cs (8/5): Great experience with very friendly people. The breakfast and Wifi are beyond expectation. - Very friendly service No tooth paste
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rhianna (10/5): Can’t recommend enough! - I can’t recommend Dayspring enough! I stayed for 2 weeks as a solo traveller and Selina was so welcoming I felt at home right away. Everything was clean and the breakfast was delicious. There is a shop next door if you need anything. Also George is very helpful and Masiu is a gem, helped to check me in and it was fun to spend time with him. I will definitely stay here again if I come back to Tonga, a memorable Christmas for me for sure! The walk into town is quite long (about 40/50 minutes) and it’s quite unpleasant in the heat but I suppose you can take a taxi if need be and there are food stalls just down the road if you want a bite but don’t want to walk into town
- Teodor (8/5): Very good - Clean, loved the hosts, nice breakfast
- Fiona (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lauren (10/5): Great place to stay! - Great place to stay! Nice room with fan in a good neighborhood / convenient location (short drive to center of town, or can walk in ~20-30 min). Safe area with food shops nearby. The owner and her sons are very friendly and welcoming. They can help arrange airport pickup or a driver for island tour, as well as recommend tourist spots to visit. Wonderful breakfast with local fruits. I highly recommend Dayspring! No AC, but fan was sufficient.
- Thamara (8/5): Very good -
- Chi (9/5): It's a friendly and happy place to live. Please don't miss it. Highly recommend. - I like the warm service and excellent home atmosphere. The fruit garden outside is great. The host has two lovely sons and they are both very friendly and helpful. I was amazed by their sophistication and discipline. Macusi taught me how to open a coconut. Mālō! (Hope I spell your name right 😅) Had a whale of a time on my holiday with you guys! There is nothing to complain. If anything I can add for the improvement is to have decaf coffee supply in the morning so we can enjoy the coffee while sleep at night 🙂😆
- Sione (7/5): Good -
- Makeleta (10/5): Highly recommend Dayspring Lodge - Excellent service. The host and Masiu were extremely friendly and very helpful. Highly recommend Dayspring Lodge and will definitely return here in the future.
Service matched with beautiful and elegant host
- Doug (7/5): Good value for money and get to meet a great local family - good choice of fresh fruit
- Kim (8/5): This was a very nice and "family oriented" 12 days stay and we really enjoyed it. Can highly recommend the Lo - Super friendly and Selina and her staff are very helpfull and positive. Breakfast with fresh fruit and toast on the terrasse is so nice. You get close to the other guests, and thsts very nice- we meet realky nice other guests during our stay. The kitchen is opennfor use, and you are free to cook own food. Acces to fridge is also very nice. The neighbors five dogs where quite active during night time- but that is more or less "normal" conditions in Tonga.
The distance to downtown Nukualofa is a bit long- but we mixed walking with Taxi( 7-10 TOP) and that worked fine.
- Greg (8/5): Very good -
- Trevor (5/5): Had to leave - The kiddo there (Museal?) was so funny and helpful. He was a shark playing Uno so watch out! I pains me to write this after how amazing the staff were but I left after I did a bed check and found bed bugs. This needs to be addressed before I could recommend a night at this place. Happy my bed check habit saved me! I found a new place and threw away the clothes I was wearing.
- Michał (9/5): Superb - Selina and Massiu go above and beyond, and are very accommodating and welcoming hosts. Their place is decent for solotravellers. Breakfast is yummy and the facilities good and well maintained.
- Francesca (10/5): - Day Spring Lodge is a great place to get the feel of suburban Tonga some of the culture of its people. There’s a lovely feel of community and you do feel safe here. There’s easy access to the kitchen and staff is super friendly. If you need a lot of quiet to sleep this probably isn’t the place for you as roosters and dogs and cars are frequently in the background. It’s about 3.5 k’s walk to the town which for me was quite doable and interesting and if you want to get a taxi, only pay seven dollars! I was ripped off twice by taxi drivers. There’s a nice seating area outside in the garden surrounded by banana and Papaya trees to relax or have breakfast. There is no pool.
- Tipene (10/5): Exceptional - Our host and her son was amazing. They allowed my son and I to check in super early. I asked if she knew anyone/company who has a car to rent us the day. She had one and with no issues my son and I were able to drive around the island (well part of it anyway 🤗)
Had us a lovely breakfast, fresh watermelon and pōpō with toast and boiled eggs, the coffee was yummy too.
- Francesca (10/5): - I liked being out of the main town and experiencing ordinary Tongan life, the families the community. Staying at Day Spring Lodge enabled me to do this easily. They were very friendly and took me, as a single traveller, into their space and were super welcoming. I was able to cater for my own meals, rent a car and get all the information I needed to discover the ‘real’ Tonga. I have to add that breakfast was the best, sweet papaya, mouthwatering watermelon and fresh bananas, straight off the tree outside the door. 😋
- Zbysek (10/5): - The host was very nice and welcoming. The breakfast with fresh fruits is good start in the new day. You need a ca. 1 hour walk to the City centre or you need to arrange or find yourself some taxi.
- Eduardo (9/5): Great hosts, great time in Tonga. - The hosts are super nice, you definitely feel at home.
Nice breakfast, house is clean, bug free, location is good, probably around 40min walk to the central area. It can be a bit noise at night time because of the road just in front of the house. Overall is a great place to stay.
- Mele (10/5): Exceptional - We loved everything about our stay especially the host and her son.
- Mele (10/5): Exceptional - I loved the host and her son. The cleaner was also lovely. The hosts son was an absolute gem with the service
- Cristian (10/5): Exceptional - Great location to explore the island. The rooms are basic but very clean. The host was very nice and overall the atmosphere in the lodge was very pleasant. It was great to receive help to arrange transfers and day tours
- Vito (10/5): Gorgeous and relaxing. - Breakfast was really good quality, ranging from fruit to two choices between cereals and croissant, albeit I could eat a bit more. Location was perfect, 20 minutes stroll to the town center, located in a very quiet part of the bay.
The service was great and the room (Seafront Studio) was absolutely stunning. I would highly recommend Fatumaru to anyone. Hard to say, I don't think there was anything I didn't like.
- Alexandra (10/5): Excellent - They are very helpful and kind I like everything
- Coralee (8/5): Comfy, kind people, everything you need. - We like the kind and welcoming feel of the family staying at Dayspring Lodge. Isi was lovely and a quiet and kind man. It was too close to the main road and could hear traffic all night long (it was a Friday).
Also, on arrival there was no real welcoming or overview and briefing on what was allowed to use or not.
- Jane (1/5): DON'T - NOTHING! .
- Andres (8/5): - Great owner and staff, very friendly .
Rooms dirty and mouldy .
Noisy as hell, with traffic outside and roosters, dogs and church bells clanging all night and at 4.30 am Sunday morning. Impossible to sleep here
- Demersay (8/5): Kind welcome and recommended for a stay in Nuku'alofa - Delicious pancakes for breakfast were kindly cooked by the host. The lounge is comfortable. The bedrooms downstairs do not reach the standard of the bedrooms upstairs.
- David (10/5): Exceptional - Owner went out of his way to be helpful, including arranging and sometimes providing local transport. Excellent breakfast with local fruit. Nothing
- Indira (8/5): Very good for the price. - I liked that the taxi was waiting for me at the airport to take me to my accommodation. I had a comfortable bed and a large wardrobe. Breakfast was very yummy. The shower room was nice. The owner was very helpful and helped arrange transportation. The bedroom was very stuffy and hot. It was an hour-long walk from town, so not super convenient. There were mosquitoes and some other bugs in my room.
- Benjamin opeti (10/5): - Thank you very much for hosting my stay. I enjoyed every bit of it, I would definitely recommend it to anyone travelling to Tonga. Staff was very kind, as a first time travelling back to Tonga after 25 years I am very impressed with how everything is.
Thank you very much I hope to come back to the kingdom again.
Malo aupito.
Ben
- Tony (10/5): - Great host and a lovely home. Thank you so much
- Tony (10/5): - Great host. Isi was awesome. Best in the Kingdom
- David (10/5): Amazing host in a good value for money property - Isi who manages the place is an amazing host. He is super friendly, welcoming, knowledgable, and very helpful in making arrangements for a great vacation in Tonga. Breakfast is good with nice fresh ground local coffee and fresh fruit always available. Isi needs to have some annual leave!
- Vivian (10/5): Best host in Nuku'alofa - Isi was the host in this place and he was really kind, helpful and hospitality with us. Every morning he shared really nice breakfast with tropical fruit. He was willing to help us everytime and we felt in home there.
- Malia (8/5): good location, peaceful vibe nice & quiet with a welcoming staff❤️ - Location was good
Isi was welcoming😁 room was a bit too hot with only one window even with the fan on
- Matilda (10/5): Isi and his friends including the cleaner made me feel like I was at home away from home. Will definitely go back in the - The host Isi was very kind and helpful. The lodge is so lucky to have him there. The toilet downstairs, the water pressure wasn’t strong enough. Had to flush at least twice even if it’s just a tiny toilet paper inside
- Natalie (8/5): Easy, homely and comfortable - All the essentials - great for an overnight stop. 10 min taxi ride from town, about 20-30 mins from the airport depending on what time of day. Isi, the owner, is fantastic and goes above and beyond to help and make sure you are comfortable and happy Nothing!
- Natalie (10/5): Easy, clean, comfortable - Homely, clean, comfortable beds. I arrived late and had to leave early and Isi, the owner, was incredibly accommodating - stayed up to let me in, up early with me to take me to the airport and make breakfast. He was welcoming and lovely. I’m going to book again!
- Zigimants (7/5): Good -
- Shimon (1/5): Bad - Nothing It’s a scam
- Fatafehi (5/5): Would recommend - Isi was very helpful an was very welcoming always asked if we where ok. Just that we got put in a single room with 1 single bed which i shared with my 10 year old an my 4month baby we where all squashed in there for 4 nighte thought we would be put into a bigger room but algood.
- rachaelmU1512JG (10/5): An amazing medical elective - I stayed at dayspring lodge for two months as part of my medical elective in the kingdom of Tonga. Isi the host was incredible kind and welcoming. I felt so safe the entire stay and was extremely well looked after.
My trip to Tonga holds a special place in my heart
- Alexandre (9/5): Superb - The best place to stay in Tonga.
Isi was so nice and helpful, I had a great time here.
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Heather (8/5): Very good - Isi, the host was fabulous! Very helpful and really made our stay there! Room was quite small and basic but we expected that so it was fine.
- Casey (8/5): Our host was fabulous, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. - The property was clean and well run. The host was fantastic!
- ourunner (8/5): Good budget option, a little far from town. - Charming host in a functional B&B about 2 miles from the town. Large shared kitchen and a couple of shared bathrooms. Unit has at least 6 rooms so could get crowded. Bus route a few minutes walk away towards the hospital. Internet was a bit iffy when we visited and took a few days to sort, however the host did try his best.
Airport pickup organised through the host and he was very helpful in organising other trips.
- Felicia (7/5): Good Experience at Dayspring Lodge - - Extremely kind staff who waited up very late to accommodate my flight
- Excellent breakfast with eggs, fruit, coffee, etc. Coffee, tea, and water were available 24/7.
- Clean room with working wi-fi. The lodge itself is very comfortable and clean. - Communication before my arrival could have been better. I had requested help with a day tour, but the answer I received was that I could speak to my airport transfer driver about this when he picked me up. I requested the driver's contact information and was ignored. Fortunately, the driver's prices were reasonable and we had a good day.
- It is about a 45 minute walk to downtown. This wasn't an issue for me, but it was a bit longer than expected.
- Both showers were surprisingly awful as the rest of the facilities were good.
- Sim (9/5): The place had a nice and homey feel which I enjoyed a lot. - It has a nice communal living area and kitchen/dining room. The owner was very accommodating and prepared a variety of fruits for breakfast. It was further away from the town centre.
- Mary (10/5): Comfortable and safe. - Very comfortable to stay. I know the reviews say a lot about the host Isi already, and tbh he went out of his way to make my stay comfortable. Friendly and welcoming. Thank you Isi.
Breakfast was included in the price and I tell you, it was the best, fresh and the best of island tropical fruits.
Beautiful place to stay and would recommend for families.
- Matthew (10/5): The perfect dose of Samoan hospitality! - The manager is extremely kind and helpful. The breakfast is excellent. Very clean, fairly priced and welcoming place. Some issues with the Wi-Fi and street noise can be quite loud in the front rooms.
- Kalusiani (9/5): Superb -
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very good place but need transport to come to here and to to towne.
- tildaalma (10/5): Incredible host and good place - This is the perfect place to stay for travelers who are transiting through Nuku'alofa and I imagine it would be very good for a longer stay as well.
The rooms are a bit basic (as should be expected for this price in Tonga) but hygienic and tidy. It is not a hostel with a reception or so, but just a couple of rooms in a house with a shared kitchen, living room, bathrooms, and showers. The breakfast was incredible and there was free-flow coffee and tea at all times. We also got towels upon request.
We stayed here for a couple of nights on our way to and from 'Eua and are very grateful for Isi, the host, who helped us tremendously. We arrived late on our first night and Isi drove us to purchase sim cards (this is highly recommended in all of Tonga since not many places offer wifi). He even drove us to and from town for dinner that night. Further, he helped us with booking our ferry tickets.
During our stay, there were multiple other people from all over the world who stayed at Dayspring for short-or long visits. This was fun as we had some friendly chats during mornings and evenings. If you are a solo-traveler this would be perfect.
Note that this is a little bit out of town and you would need to take a 10 TOP taxi trip or around a 30-minute walk to get to the town center. Isi gave us the number to a taxi that was cheap and reliable.
- Nick (10/5): Fantastic little quiet spot just outside of Nuku'alofa - Great spot to spend some time in Nuku'alofa. I had to extend my stay by two nights as flights and ferries in Tonga are pretty unreliable but really glad I stayed here. Breakfast was nice and substantial, there was coffee available all the time, hot showers, very clean property, and my room felt pretty cool during the evening that I didn't need a fan on. Isi is also a great character that knows a lot about the local tourism and you can even rent his bike off of him (which I think is the best way to see Tongatapu). There's also a decent shop next door and a few take away options nearby. The house has a fully equipped kitchen as well. While it didn't bother me personally (as I like walking), the town centre of Nuku'alofa is a bit far away and for some may be an issue. But in all honesty outside of a few cafes and shopping not a lot to do down there so it isn't that big of a deal, plus taxis are pretty cheap as well.
- Stefan (10/5): Exceptional - Tonga is not that easy to handle, though Isi (the guy running the place) was major help and supported me a lot when I stood there. Thanks again!
- Talilotu (10/5): Isi is the best, literally went out of his way to help in anything and everything. Love the host, always making me feel - Isi is the best, literally went out of his way to help in anything and everything. Love the host, always making me feel like I’m at my own home and always making sure if I needed anything. I truly recommend Dayspring lodge to anyone. Will definitely be back. Thanks Isi ❤️
