Guest Reviews
- OlegS828 (10/5): Home comfort - Very nice location (in limits of 25 min walk from the most sightseeing places). Kind and well-skilled staff. Fully well equipped kitchen for long-term stay. Very good restaurant (operation hours: 6:30-24:00). Apartments are very convenient for comfort relaxation after businessday or sports activities. Its are equipped by two TV (in bedroom and guestroom).
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect stay - Great food... perfect location and very friendly staff
- peterlR3378RW (10/5): Best Hotel on Sakhalin - Rubin Hotel is the first choice every time when staying on Sakhalin. Great facilities and the best bar on Sakhalin in the basement. Staff are outstanding, always helpful and friendly and rooms are great with a small kitchen and always extremely clean. Located in the centre of the city with easy access to anywhere you need to be.
- S5005OJmattm (8/5): Pleasant, friendly home in Sakhalin - For visitors to this fairly remote part of the world, the Rubin is a pleasant, comfortable home. While not a flash place, it is well maintained and comfortable. Most staff speak at least some English and all are pleasant and helpful. Yuzhno Sakhalinsk's main shops and restaurants are scattered around town, but the Rubin is a pleasant walk to all the main places. There is a small grocery store on the corner next door and the rooms at the Rubin come with a small kitchen.
The wifi needs a password that is sent by SMS to you from the login page, but it didn't work with my non-Russian phone. The front desk gave me a password though and even on the top floor it worked well.
I reserved an airport pick up but it never came. There were a handful of taxis though and a ride to the Rubin cost 500 RUB.
- RichieAdams (8/5): A great hotel good value - I have stayed here more than once for extended periods and found it a very comfortable all suite hotel. Reasonably clean and well maintained.
Good location with plenty of supermarkets around to purchase provisions and a bar dinner on site
- ICR46 (8/5): Pleasantly Surprised - Normally I would stay at hotel not to far away only because that's what I've always done. It was fully booked this time and I therefore decided on the Rubin. I've always wondered what it was like as the Mishka Pub has been a place I visit regularly during my trips for both a beer and food.
The Rubin hotel surprised me, the staff were friendly and the room (junior suite) was large with a separate bedroom off the open plan living/kitchen area. The room had everything I needed, plenty of space to hang clothing, good table to work at, nice sofa to relax on and all the utensils for cooking if that's your thing.
The Mishka Pub has always been good but I was pleased with the breakfast. It actually resembled a breakfast, unlike the stuff provided at the hotel round the corner.
My only negative comments regarding the Rubin are:
1. WiFi - I was on the third floor and it was poor at best but having spoken with reception a trial is underway for a new system.
2. Air Conditioning - This switched on in the room for the week I was there and set as low possible but it never reached the desired temperature. This is typical of most air conditioning I've come across in Russian hotels.
Would I stay here again? It will be first choice every time.
- LimKH253 (6/5): Nice Hotel near Work - Stayed here before, it appears there has been some minor renovations to the room interior and gym. So the place looks nicer than before. Mishka Pub and the Reception looks the same.
The rooms are quite big with kitchen and separate living room and bedroom. So you can stay here quite awhile.
This is one of the few places where the staff attend to you with a smile. So feels warmer than other hotels in yuzhno sakahlainsk.
Take note Mishka pub stays open until 12 midnight but the kitchen closes at 10 pm.
- HoustonConsultant (6/5): Five night stay in Yuzhno - With most of the other hotels booked, stayed at the Hotel Rubin for the first time.
By US standards, the hotel is not "posh" by any means, but it is perfectly functional and the location is fine.
I had a two-room "apartment" with two leather chairs and sofa in the living room, and a queen-sized bed and desk in the bedroom, and a small kitchen with a full-sized refrigerator, small oven, small stove-top, and sink. For a stay of anything more than a day or two, I much prefer having the small kitchen fridge and sink rather than a standard hotel room (even with a nicer standard room). The cost was about $85 USD per night.
There is a small grocery store around the corner to the left of the hotel and a larger grocery store in a strip center a block away to the right of the hotel. I stocked up on soft drinks, beer, snacks, and other things since I had the kitchen in my room.
The Mishka Pub in the hotel does room service to the guests, and it is generally decent food and remarkably cheap. I was jet lagged and craving comfort food, and the pizzas were not bad at all. A pizza and a plate of chicken wings was about $15 USD.
I was near the front desk on the first floor, and my internet was reliable but not fast.
Some have noted that the front desk staff were not overly friendly, but I had just the opposite experience, They were extremely helpful, spoke good English, and were always in a happy mood.
The staff taking orders and delivering room service were not overly friendly, but they were extremely fast with the food and accurate in filling the orders.
I stayed at the Mira Hotel on my last visit to the island, and the Mira is a "nicer" hotel, but I would rather stay at the Rubin with the bigger room and kitchen.
