Guest Reviews
- John (10/5): - Room was spacious, comfortable and quiet. I think this is the first room that I've stayed in, that had a very comfortable leather recliner! The Inn is centrally located to visit the entire Lancaster area. Will stay here again during my annual visit to the area.
- Paul (10/5): - Location was great. Loved the suite we stayed in, especially the tub and sunroom. My one thought is…Since it is Amish Country, would like it if the morning pastries were from Amish bakeries, instead of the Little Debbie boxed pastries that are offered.
- LIBIA (10/5): - Parking cleanest
- ardith (10/5): - Wonderful stay!!
- Mohammed (10/5): - There was nothing I didn't like. Kim, the front desk attendant was gracious, welcoming and helpful.
- Mike (10/5): - A nice, clean motel. Good price.
- F4640AZalicias (6/5): Disrespectful - The Inn's exterior is beautiful
The interior is clean and seating in the room is very comfortable but the bed is VERY firm
However : I went to the checkin desk the next morning to get a copy of my receipt
The owner told me I didn't need another because they gave me one the night before
I politely told him I had not, several times
He was very disrespectful and in the presence of other guests.
I thanked him as I walked away for calling me a liar
Will not go back
Oh, and cable for watching tv, has very few channels that people would like to watch
- Santa (10/5): - Very clean very cute staff excellent will definitely go back
- Randy (10/5): - The Inn was just lovely. Very clean and peaceful. The staff was accommodating and friendly.
- elizabeth (8/5): - Staff and Innkeepers are super nice and helpful. Very clean room, however, updating will really improve the appearance.
- Richard (10/5): - Our stay was great in all ways!
- Lou (10/5): - The staff was fantastic. Kim was very helpful and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. She was knowledgeable, professional and courteous. Gave us great advice regarding places to go to eat and shop.
- Edgardo (8/5): - For the amount of money that you pay for this hotel. It's very very reasonable and clean. The property around it was very peaceful and enjoyable. The staff was very helpful funny and playful even with my children. I recommend smoke Town in to anyone visiting from out of town.
- Donny (4/5): - Requested first floor due to disabled veteran. I was told you have to request 5 months or more to even have a chance of getting on the first floor. Wow okay.
The pictures online of the motel rooms are very misleading. They make it look so big with recliners and a king bed. Can’t even watch TV laying in the bed. Room had an unpleasant smell…glad we only stayed 2 nights. Will not be staying there in the future.
- Anthony (10/5): Clean - Older but very clean. Fresh newer mattress. Very happy with my stay here.
- Elizabeth (2/5): Never again - The property was nothing like it was advertised. We didn’t even get the room that we booked, which was supposed to be a king size suite it was a queen bed very uncomfortable. There was a fireplace in the room however even though it was cold out while chilly out, we could not use it. It said there was a two person tub. It was not a two person tub. Unless you were sitting on each other. The picture of the beautiful grounds is so untrue. You can’t even use the bench because of the weeds. They were growing as high as the bench, I even got pictures of it and from nine at night to eight in the morning is quiet time it was like being in a retirement home.
- Gemma (10/5): - The staff is very friendly and accommodating. I felt like I was visiting a friend's home. It's down to earth and gives you the warmth of a family home. There is seating outside which provides a peaceful environment especially for someone working on a book. I would definitely stay there again. They also have quiet hours from 9pm-8am which is also awesome because guests can enjoy the quiet and relax. I love this hotel!
- Karen (10/5): - Very clean and convenient.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Just okay. - Friendly staff at the desk and quick checkin. Staff gave us booklets of the Lancaster area and recommended places to eat and things to do. The inn was older and quaint, but we like this. Quiet. There’s a nice refrigerator in the room. The room and bathroom were very clean, however the sheets had an unpleasant odor that really troubled me. They smelled like when your clean, wet laundry is left in the washer and forgotten for a day it gets that funky smell. and then not rewashed. It kind of gave me the creeps. The bed was hard as a rock. We didn’t sleep well. We will not recommend nor return.
- Panda2Monkey (10/5): Fantastic location to visit Lancaster and experience the Armish/Menonite community. - Fantastic location to visit Lancaster and experience the Armish/Menonite community. Great value holiday with super friendly staff and in particular Richard who went out of his way to spend time with us and pass on lots of great tips around places to visit and things to do.
- Gary Lane (8/5): - Loved the people. Kim was friendly and accommodating
Missed having a fan in the bathroom. Couldn't keep door closed when showering. Would have loved to have a microwave at least on the same floor and coffee in the room..
- Delmar J. (8/5): - the bed was comfortable. The continental breakfast was not too good. For me personally it was all right because all they had was coffee and cake and that's ok with me, but if some one wanted a more variety----there was none. I totally liked the place and would go back there again. And when I do go back there(and I will) I will book a room there again.
- christinehG1577TU (10/5): Nostalgia, ultra clean, and nature - Smoketown Inn is a family owned establishment that offers overnight accommodation and a continental breakfast.
The owners, Linda and Mike are equipped with all the amenities any guest may need, Smoketown Inn is known for being designed as a “home away from home”.
I come with my own Swiffer and Lysol wipes, and they far exceeded my cleanliness expectations. Zero dust and dirt were found. This establishment was super clean.
We often want to try something new, and staying at a new place can be a one-time experience. However, Linda and Mike create a personalized stay for us as they do for everyone, well they left a lasting impression and fetched a repeat customer. If you are in Lancaster area this is the place to stay.
The owners understand the needs of the customers and are ready to go the extra mile. They are great communicators and get to know you on an individual basis where you feel like family by being an active listener and asks meaningful questions that elicit insight.
Smoketown Inn is the nostalgic way to travel. Many of us are tired of the hustle and bustle of modern life and welcome a respite from our hyper-connected world. Here you will relive your childhood memories of yesteryears.
We all know that nostalgia and muti-generational vacations are on the rise and this is place to be when traveling.
- Louis (8/5): - Good size room.
Odor
- Alyssa (6/5): - This hotel is very much a "you get what you pay for" situation.
Pros: Clean, quiet, safe, with accommodating staff.
Cons: I don't think anything had been updated in 50 years, including the mattresses. The keys were physical, and had an odd system or it wouldn't work. There's also an weird smell throughout the public areas, like that of a nursing home. I don't think our shower had an actual showerhead and the refrigerator took a while to get cold, which was annoying since we'd travelled some ways and had items that had to be kept cold with us. The page said there was a microwave in the room, but I didn't see it. Finally, the "continental breakfast" was a couple odd Walmart cinnamon rolls on a glass communal tray and a small coffee pot. Which considering we're in the heart of Lancaster PA was a disappointing way to start the morning.
- Karen (10/5): - Very clean and comfortable.
- Hendrik (10/5): - We had a lovely time in this beautiful hotel full of character. The gardens and outdoor area are so calm and peaceful. The owners are kind and friendly, the rooms clean and the bedding beautiful. Morning breakfast just right.
Thank you and God Bless.
Dr. Hendrik and Sandra Venter
- Brandon (10/5): - The Smoketown Inn was a great place to stay. I really enjoyed the outside sitting areas. The staff was friendly and the rooms were clean. I have no complaints about our stay and would definitely stay here again.
- casmeow1 (10/5): This is a great place to stay. - Very personable owner and staff. Has been updated, but still has a homey feel. Great mattress and pillows! Can't wait to return!
- Susie (10/5): - The staff were so friendly and helpful
- Janice (8/5): - The Smoketown Inn was perfect for our visit to the Pennsylvania Amish community. The rooms are nice and the beds are comfortable. The gas fireplace in our room was cozy. The main reason for not giving a 5-star rating was that the continental breakfast was not particularly good and only one pod of regular coffee was provided in our room. I would have like to have 3-4 coffee pods (not decaf). The garden in the back is lovely. Unfortunately, the weather was rainy so we weren't able to sit outside to enjoy it.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The Inn was a nice place to stay. However, I gave an overall rating for 4 because the pillow cases seemed like an old was cloth. Everything else was good.
- Tina (10/5): - Loved the beautiful inn and the lovely room we stayed in. Felt like home instead of simply a hotel room. We would definitely stay there again!!
- Joni (10/5): Charming hotel that feels like home - Wonderful charming, quaint, comfortable hotel off the main street thru town but still very close to all the tourist attractions. Country decor was so homey. Beautiful courtyard with a view of farm fields. Owner was so very pleasant and friendly. There were even goats next door to complete the experience!
- Kathy (10/5): - This is our go-to place in the area. Quaint, comfortable and clean rooms. Beautiful setting. Owners/staff are very friendly.
- Gregory (10/5): Two day stay - Nice clean and quite!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Solo stay - return customer - If I remember correctly, this was the same room I stayed in last time back in March 2022. The innkeepers were welcoming. The place was quiet during the day upon early check in around 2pm. This was my stay to attend an event at Lancaster county convention center. The sitting lounge and the room was clean and simple. I took a nap once I unwind.
- Connie (10/5): Great place - Wonderful stay! So clean and the bed was perfect. The fireplace was a nice addition and with it snowing outside it was so inviting inside! We loved it
- Chandravir (8/5): - Very functional budget property but it worked well for us as we were just looking for a place to sleep
- Monica (4/5): - Plumbing was bad in the room we stayed. One of the staff members was rude. It basically felt like we were pushed out of the inn.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location and loved having fireplace in our room.
- M Lee (8/5): - Location is older, but clean, good price, quiet Great location easy access to attractions but not in the congested area of Amish Country. We left some items behind and owner called us within an hour of our departure. He also chatted with customers at morning breakfast area.
- Tiffany (10/5): Wonderful little place! - Stay was amazing! We had the Creekside suite; it was so cozy! We loved the fireplace and soaking tub! we had a wonderful time and will definitely be coming back again!
- ORELIA (6/5): - Very dated hotel. Could not control heat even with thermostat off, unbearably warm, had to open window to get room to cool. Beds were not comfortable. Pillows need to be updated
- Amanda (4/5): Old and smelly - Sights and sound theater is what brought us to stay in the area. The hotel was highly rated so we decided it would suit us well. Upon arrival, the lady at the desk was very kind and helpful. Unfortunately the whole place smelled like a nursing home. The bedding was extremely old, pillows flat and mattress was hard as a rock and noisy. In shoet everything was very dated. We found some where else to stay the following night.
- Steven (10/5): Amish stay done the right way - As we pulled into the driveway, we could already tell the place was manicured and well taken care of. The exterior was inviting, and the interior, although simple, was clean, warm, and comforting. The front desk attendant was great, and answered some questions that we had. The room was beautiful, everything was very clean. Soaking tub was spotless, fireplace was super effective, and the bed was quite comfortable. The lighting was just what the room needed. It was warm and incandescent. The only negative was the breakfast (it’s only a tray of cookies and pastries, so why call it breakfast?). I would definitely stay there again for my next trip to Amish Country!
- KATIE (10/5): - I would stay here again.
- Martha (10/5): - quiet, nice property. staff friendly.'
- Rose (10/5): - Room was a nice size set up with with heat & air conditioning!
- Mark (10/5): - First of all, don’t expect the Ritz Carlton. This is a small family run inn. The decor is past its prime but everything was spotlessly clean with comfortable bedding and sheets. The rooms were serviced each day. Totally safe area with good parking. It was quiet, the room had a nice cold ac, tv with multiple stations, pastries, and yogurt each morning. Conveniently located to everything. Would not hesitate to stay again.
- Karen (10/5): - We were pleased by the ease to find this property.
- Debbie (10/5): - Our room was very comfortable, the beds were very good (although I wanted my pillow from home ) and rooms spacious. Wonderful bathtub! Recliners were welcome after a long day. These rooms were so very clean and that made me feel good! The staff were probably the friendliest I have seen in years...very welcoming and easy to talk to. As far as dining, I found the smaller "mom and pop" restaurants to have the best food and prices. We met some really friendly couples. I would love to return in the future!
- 81robinb (10/5): Lots of nice perks for the value! - I am a local working on a local business project with long days, so booked here for 3 nights. Great value for the money! Excellent staff and owners who were very helpful and nice to talk with. Other reviewers here gave an excellent picture of the place, hence why I booked.
Some things I really liked: Nice to not stay in a chain hotel. Excellent hot water and shower pressure even though I was on the 2nd floor. Windows actually open (amazing!) and it was terrific to get fresh air. I brought my own weighted blanket- a personal choice- and glad I did. Refrigerator actually large enough to put things in it and use. (Most other places they are tiny and you can't get anything of substance in)
If coming back I would most likely spring for carriage house since it was in the back and most likely a little more quiet. Because this hotel is off of the main drag of Route 30- it is a much quieter hotel. Highly recommend for that alone. My room was in the very front and while I didn't mind the minimal street noise - next time I would chose further back in the hotel if it is an option. Highest compliment I can pay - I would recommend Smoketown Inn to family and friends visiting Lancaster County!
- Robin (10/5): - Lovely place to stay for 3 nights when I had to work long days for a big project. It was great to stay at a place owned by locals, not part of a chain. Other reviewers have stated some of the very nice basics (clean, quiet, very nice staff) so will focus on other areas:
Stayed on the 2nd floor and shower was hot and fast with very good pressure. Big points for that. Beds were comfortable but I am glad I brought my own weighted blanket for my own comfort- that's a personal choice. My room faced the street but windows could be opened to allow for fresh air which was really nice and I didn't mind the street noises since I was so tired due to long work days. Price was extremely reasonable for the stay and comfort of the room. Was delighted they had a small refrigerator that was actually useable! )Not minuscule like so many places). If booking again, I think I would ante up for the suites they offer since it looked like they were more in the back and most likely quieter. They were already booked for this trip and I didn't have the option this time. I will be recommending to family and friends in the future to stay - my biggest compliment!
- Richard (8/5): - The advert said free breakfast; it was actually coffee and danish only. That was a bit disappointing.
- Philip (10/5): Lovely Stay - Quick trip to Lancaster to attend Sights & Sounds
- Danny (8/5): - The room had a musty smell. I can’t say much about the breakfast. It was in a good location.
- Erin (8/5): - I would have given this stay 5 stars because it is by far the cleanest property I have ever stayed at! For the price the basic breakfast and lack of amenities was expected. I would recommend the owners up the price by even $10 so they can update the mattress and the bathroom towels. If you like a firm mattress and rough towels these two things will not bother you but again for the price not a bad stay at all!
- Thomas (6/5): - They are in a safe area but the room should have a deadbolt that the customer has the key.
- Marcel (4/5): - ?
- Christopher (10/5): - Lovely old fashioned hotel to stay. Easy access to local destinations and dining.
- Barry (10/5): - Great location, comfortable, quiet, nice people.
- John (10/5): - Mike the owner and his wife were very helpful and made the stay 5 stars. Wonderful hospitality and a nice place to relax and visit the past.
- Laura (8/5): - Quaint old style inn setting. Nice patio area. The inn boders an Amish farm.
- carlawW1251HN (10/5): Hotel close to attractions and amenities - Pleasant place to stay while visiting Lancaster. Centrally located, easy access to main roads and comfortable. Reasonable rates. Breakfast is coffee, tea and packaged pastries. We are not big breakfast eaters so this was fine for us. Would recommend!
- Lisa (10/5): - I was there for two nights for a business event nearby. It’s a quaint little place, quiet, out of the way just enough, but close enough to everything. My only suggestion would be to provide a little better quality soap and maybe some shampoo and conditioner… had to run out to Target to grab some… but other than that, I found it quite comfortable, clean, convenient and affordable.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Unpleasant Stay - The person Was surly when I checked in, and it felt as though I was bothering her. In the hallways, there is a distinct smell of decay, and there was a tenant who lived above my room, and I could hear every step and every movement that they made in that room. I complained to the In keeper the next day. There was a back door by the office to go out to the garden area, but it was always locked. This gave a feeling of unfriendliness. The continental breakfast had tasty cake, and other very unhealthy items.
- William (6/5): - Room was very smelly and hot.
- Elisa (8/5): - The Inn is the quintessential Lancaster experience-
Peaceful with the beauty of nature all around you!
- William (10/5): - Staff very friendly.
- Patricia (8/5): - Convenient to other towns. The breakfast was only pastry and coffee
- Donald (8/5): - Needs some updating
- B765XTdianef (10/5): Comfortable, clean, and quiet. - We so enjoyed our stay at Smoketown Inn. The inn is charming, and our room was very clean, comfortable, and so quiet. We enjoyed eating our breakfast outside on the covered brick patio surrounded by a beautiful garden. The inn was pretty close to the Sight and Sound Theater, shopping and restaurants. The staff and owners were very pleasant and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful and quiet stay in Landcaster - Super clean , quiet and comfortable. The views of farmland and gardens were beautiful. The suite was roomy with all the comforts of home. Close to all. Mike the owner could not have been more friendly and accompanying. My wife and I will most certainly be back
- Charles (6/5): - no shampoo in bathroom. mentioned it to staff but was not even offerd any. Will not return.
- Darlene (6/5): - Nice quiet stay. Could use some room upgrades. Friendly staff.
- William (10/5): - Real easy. Simple and quiet and friendly. Will return
- fred (8/5): - Property was well maintained. Clean. Welcoming staff. Could use coffee in the room
- Valentina (10/5): - Ok if you are looking for a luxurious place move along. If you’re looking for a cute inexpensive, beautiful little area this is it. It’s like grandma’s bedroom. It has vintage vibe we stayed here two nights to do some Thrifting and antiquing, and it was the perfect spot. Sitting outside with the chickens and roosters and 2 goats in the morning perfect. Beautiful views. Convenience of things we wanted to do. Nice and quiet
- Eugen (10/5): - Very nice place
- Melisa (6/5): - After my stay i really wanted to leave my suggestions written somewhere but there was nowhere to write them. So here are my suggestions: keep the covered in the area in the back nonsmoking. Its real unpleasant walking through there with smokers standing at the door. Since the free lobby coffee isnt available until 7 am, itd be great to have a coffee pot in the room. It would also be great if there was a hair dryer in the room since that seems to be a staples with all other hotels. If youre going to place a sign on the mini fridge for snacks and drinks there really should be snacks and drinks. Itd be great to know ahead of time that u only use well water. It would have been preferred to have a plastic baggie or insert for the ice bucket. I got ice and let it melt to drink. The soda machine was convenient. And the microwave was nice and clean to warm up my double coffee i purchased around the corner.
Other than that it was a quiet, quaint place.
- Becky (10/5): - This was our second time staying here and we love it. Its quiet, peaceful and not like your typical chain hotel. Rooms are clean, place is very quaint & charming.
- Susan (8/5): - Everything was very neat and clean. Management introduced themselves . Explained where microwave, ice machine . Very pleasant.
- thaddeus (10/5): Good place for overnight - Great place to stay. ..only thing is they should have decaf already made and not those store bought pastries for the health conscious. Will still stay there next time.
- Kelly (10/5): - Charming and clean.
- Jacqueline (8/5): - Quaint hotel. I would definitely stay again.
- Christine (10/5): - Premises were clean. Rooms good size. Owner friendly.
- John (10/5): - Best nights sleep, beds comfortable, rooms VERY clean. Staff was very kind and helpful. We had everything we needed. Much more peaceful, comfortable hotel compared to big chain hotels. We will certainly come back and recommend to friends.
- Debra (10/5): - Great location, minutes from Site & Sound. We stayed in a suite and it was spacious, fireplace a lovely place. Plan to return.
- Robert (8/5): - Beds were great. No coffee in the room. No coffee ready outside the room until after 7:30am
- James (10/5): - Excellent place for convenience and value.
- Margarita (8/5): - This is a very clean hotel with amazing staff. It is kind of vintage and has everything you may for a very good price. The hot water had a very strong metallic smell and the mattress was a little uncomfortable but overall it is a great place to stay.
- George (6/5): - affordable and comfortable. friendly helpful staff.
- Adriana (6/5): - very polite and helpful staff. shower water smelled strongly of sulfur and drained very slowly so we had to stand in the stinky water the whole time. standard breakfast options.
- Cynthia (8/5): - Place was very nice no elevator so it was hard for mother and packages/luggage
Very clean and very frendly staff
- Peter (10/5): - Very Clean and comfortable
- Alta (10/5): - Quiet and peaceful
- Ronald (10/5): Sightseeing - Room was little small, but comfortable.
- Laura (10/5): Charming hotel - Great location, charming hotel that feels more like you are staying at a friend's house. Very clean, country decor. Very welcoming owners. Beautiful Amish farms right adjacent to the hotel property.
- Brenda (10/5): - Quiet, friendly staff, lovely rooms, beautiful grounds. Convenient location, close to Sight and Sound, many good restaurants, and shopping nearby. I will definitely return next time I am in the area.
