Guest Reviews
- Marie (8/5): Very good - Excellent location Garden was a bit unkept which let the property down a bit
- Gillian (7/5): Loved our stay pity about the the few problems at the property - The house was beautiful very spacious and perfect location,.we had a real good time The garden was unkept. Needed some attention. There was a leak from the shower which ran down the wall in the living by the television and a wall socket. The housekeeping could have been a little bit better . And the host wasn't available when we rang about the problem
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional - A wonderful characterful house, comfortable and well-equipped in an excellent location
- Lesley (9/5): Perfect, we will definitely be back. - We booked because we had a wedding and my grown up daughters were happy with me for finding such a gem. The bedrooms were beautiful, I really couldn’t fault them. Shame about the jacuzzi not working. Also the second living room did look like a nursing home day room.
- Tracy (8/5): Very good - The location was fabulous and bedrooms were amazing The stairs need a safety gate to prevent dogs having access to them. Hard work keeping them downstairs . The garden also needs a tidy up but lovely views
- Wendy (9/5): Very enjoyable and comfortable couldn’t ask for more, everything carefully considered . Thoroughly enjoyed it. - The Property is outstanding, spacious, comfortable and luxurious, well equipped with everything you need. Parking is limited, lockup available but we could not access this due to cars parked carelessly in front of the garage, had to use long stay car park which was near so not a massive problem but though this should be mentioned. Also not a problem for us , but an elderly or disabled person may find the stairs in this property challenging.
- Lisa (4/5): I also messaged the owner yesterday on the mobile phone number. No answer. Poor communication. - Location was great. Bedrooms were spacious and comfy. The first room when you enter the property is very dark and certainly not somewhere you would sit at comfortable at night. The next sitting room is not much better. This property needs renovating, old and tired. There is a hole in the floorboards near the stairs going down to the kitchen which isn’t ideal.
Part of the reason we booked this property was the outdoor space overlooking the river. What a shame we couldn’t sit outside on the hot day. Weeds overgrown, nettles, old broken furniture, sweeping brush just left on its side, clearly no one had been in that garden for a long while. One of the selling points of this property is the garden, so we very disappointed when we saw it. Tv in the front room kept losing signal, couldn’t watch anything. Curtain in the top bedroom over the window didn’t shut, so had to tie together with string. I’m astounded we paid £357 for one night for this property?!! 5 star? This is not a 5 star property. So disappointed when we were bringing friends away to show them Llangollen.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lots of space, character, and stairs - Extremely spacious and well equipped with one exception, given the unusually warm weather—no AC, some fans, and no screens on windows that do open. The garden has a knockout location right on the river and some rooms also have this gorgeous view, including the huge bathroom with freestanding tub. There are however a lot of stairs. Kitchen is on lowest floor. Entry and dining and parlor are on street level, and there is no bathroom on that floor. So it’s a trek from kitchen to loo. The top floor bedroom is huge and worked great for our kids and their baby. Location in town is phenomenal. It is a bit funky and eclectic, but it worked for us.
- Tracey, (5/5): Passable - Location and view of the river. Bed's were clean. Parts of the house were not clean. Dust and cobwebs were visible in all areas particularly on the windows and blinds. The kitchen utilities (fridge chopping board, toaster and iron) were dirty and certainly not what you would expect in accommodation rated as 5 star. The garden did not look as depicted in the photos it was overgrown and unkept and the garden furniture was dirty and in need of maintenance. The radiators did not work in all rooms, there were holes in walls and the property appears tired and in need of some TLC. Not 5 star.
- Jacqui (9/5): Wonderful as a treat for a dear friend. - The ample-sized bedrooms, all with en suite bathrooms, the views from the garden, and the overall cleanliness were exceptional. The kitchen had loads of glasses, cups, etc. We couldn't get the radiators to turn up for some reason, but this was a minor issue as it wasn't too cold when we stayed.
Saying that there were only three logs for the fire and no kindling. We managed to just use what was there.
- Adam (7/5): Wonderful spacious property that needs a bit of TLC - - Very nicely presented and lots of historic features preserved
- Cosy and comfortable front room with soft lighting.
- Castle River room especially is luxurious and huge!
- Beautiful location and view of the river
- Incredible local shops
- Wonderful spacious property
- Kitchen well presented with good facilities including dishwasher, separate fridge and freezer.
- Two fireplaces
- Secure garden for dogs - Cold on arrival and heating had to be fixed. Lovely and warm after, though kitchen remained cold
- Lots of little repairs needed like a broken stair guard, broken toilet roll holder in the Oak room, Landing light not working, broken latch on the boiler cupboard.
- Disappointing the “jacuzzi” bath isn’t set up as a jacuzzi
- TV sitting room could do with some new furniture (far more comfortable in front room)
- No parking outside the property, and parking in the garage is frankly a bit of a faff unless you are leaving your car for a while.
- Julian (8/5): Happy that we selected Cornerstones for our holiday - Very attractive property. Spacious accomodation. located in a beautiful part of Wales. Friendly people and good facilities within easy reach of the property, i.e restaurants, shops. Lots of lovely walks near the property. Beds took time for me to get used to, but my family were happy with them. Struggled a little with the heating, a little too warm for my liking but other members of my family happy with the heating. Very attractive ensuite facilities, pleased with the showers and baths provided by the property. Spacious and well resourced kitchen.
- Jen (9/5): Great location in a special place. - We loved the location, the cuteness of the fire and the rooms. The top bedroom was luxurious. It was winter so we didn’t use the garden but it looked magnificent with spectacular views. It could have been a bit warmer especially on arrival and with more kindling and firefighters as it took us ages to start a fire with what was provided.
- Steven (9/5): Superb - Location
- Ian (10/5): The only place we'll stay in Llangollen! - Lovely location best in town! Beds you just absolutely melt into! All brilliant New kettle needed 🙏🏻💚
- Glyn (10/5): Love the house. - Very nice large property, excellent bedrooms. Great view from garden overlooking the river. Everything is in the property you need except an ice cube maker, and garden needs a little tidy .
- Beverly (7/5): In a great spot but needs updating bedrooms are really nice and spacious - Location Living rooms were very dark in the first room and the second living space was very dated and felt a little like a old folks home
- Frances (8/5): Family summer wedding trip - Beautiful central location and a wonderful old building. The owner was extremely helpful and responded quickly to questions. The rooms were a very good size, and the bedrooms and bathrooms were just what we needed for our family group. The kitchen was well equipped so if you're going for the walking no problems with washing! Garage parking was provided nearby, which was a bonus. We stayed during a very hot period and it would have been lovely if we could have eaten outside to take advantage of the spectacular river view. There is a garden table, but the selection of chairs wasn't suitable for sitting around the table - a set of 6 matching chairs would be a real bonus.
Some of the crockery was chipped, and there wasn't a matching set of cutlery- small things, but what, in my eyes, make it 4 star and not 5.
- Christine (8/5): Would really like to come and stay again! - The amount of space and the view overlooking the river. My ten year old great niece really loved the space and facilities in top bedroom. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of seating. All guests said would like to come again and stay longer as only here weekend as attending wedding at Tower Hill Barnes in next village. Lighting on landing not working. Garage offered very small and not easy to get in and out due to bad parking by other drivers though realise not under your control. Damaged side of car. However other guests parked in car park for small fee which was not very far away and much better.
- David (10/5): we had a lovely time and would happily return again. The beds were very comfortable and it’s very well equipped. - location was great, loads of space, plenty of bathrooms nothing really
- Lucie (7/5): Good -
- Sharon (10/5): Amazing Cornerstones! - The house was absolutely stunning! So many period features and everything had been thought out, to make your visit as enjoyable as possible. My boys loved the extensive dvd collection!
The garden was very pleasant, with a fabulous view of the River Dee. The welcome hamper was a lovely surprise and very thoughtful. After the drive, the wine was just what I needed! The location is perfect, everything is close by and most places are dog friendly, which was great for us. The bedrooms and bathrooms were all fabulous, especially our room at the top of the house. It was a lovely couple of days and we look forward to going back.
- Rachel (9/5): A beautiful house in a stunning location can’t wait to rebook! - the views over the river, lovely character features and huge bedroom en-suites! nothing
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely an amazing property . My family and I really enjoyed our stay there. So much history in the building.
- Darren (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional - The house was amazing great location ,attention to every detail .All rooms where fabulous recommend to anybody Nothing
- John (7/5): Overall enjoyed the stay, but just a few areas that let the experience down. - Great location and lovely property Jacuzzi bath wasn’t working, which was disappointing. From reading previous reviews, this was a known issue but hadn’t been resolved. The standard of cleaning also wasn’t as high as expected - in particular the overflowing heap of bin bags in the garden needs to be addressed. The dining equipment (cups, table mats and pans) are also in need of a refresh. We also experienced problems with the separate garage when leaving the property as someone had parked in front of the doors, blocking our car. Fortunately we managed to find the owner in the nearby hotel or we would have been stuck. Appreciate that this isn’t the fault of the owner, but it sounded like this is a regular issue so putting cones outside the garage or warning bookers that this can happen may be helpful.
- Dave (9/5): Incredible historic house with five star rooms. - The rooms are amazing the house is incredible. We loved it other than the steps 😁. We will be telling all our friends about this place. The place could be cleaner, just general vacuuming and making sure the towels ready for use not left all over the house on various heaters. The rubbish bins outside were all completely full. The yard outside needs a big clean up also. I hate to be so critical as the place is really fantastic but just needs a bit more attention to detail.
- Debbie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Katie (6/5): Pleasant -
- Lynsey (10/5): Wonderful house in a perfect location. - Lovely bedrooms in a perfect location. All bedrooms included everything you could possibly need. Kitchen could have been equipped with a few more glasses but that’s a minor point.
- Tonimarie (8/5): Very good -
- Catherine (7/5): Great location and building, very comfy beds: with improved general cleanliness would be fantastic - Location size thoughtful touches - dressing tables make up mirrors tissues Cleanliness - bathrooms shower heads needed cleaning, toilet brushes not clean, mould in oak room bathroom. Jacuzzi bath not working in river room. lack of instructions regarding rubbish, rubbish building up outside.
- Anthony (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sheridan (10/5): Staying in Llangollen - Lovely house. Bedrooms were very nice. Nice and big dining room and lounges.
- Anthony J (10/5): Perfect stay in a perfect house - We booked the whole house for 2 nights and we had high expectations based on reviews and the website - and we were not disappointed! The property is simply stunning, from the way it's furnished, equipped and maintained and the location is perfect - in the middle of town but not overlooked, and backing onto the river. We ended up eating in both nights because eating out in the garden was so perfect and the kitchen has everything you could possibly need. And we really appreciated extra little touches like providing ice in the freezer, a dog towel, dishwasher and washing machine tablets, hair straighteners etc etc. They have thought of everything!
Communication with the owners was brilliant too. We had to change our booking and they were so accommodating and responded to questions promptly and positively, both beforehand and during our stay.
Strongly recommended!
- Anita (10/5): Luxury stay - Lovely accommodation, friendly helpful staff. Lots of little extras for a touch of luxury.
- Hayley (10/5): Short break in Llangollen - This B&B was exceptional the owner had thought of everything you could possibly want in the room. I would highly recommend this guesthouse. A fabulous break away.
- Yvonne (10/5): - Fantastic bed so comfortable, lovely little touches throughout the room and public areas, great breakfast and super friendly host nothing too much trouble.
- Dennis (10/5): Simply fantastic - Fantastic food; fantastic staff; fantastic place just love the place and the staff and the go out there way to help all they can
- S (10/5): 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟 - Absolutely fantastic place to stay, very welcoming and the views are beautiful..
- Richard (10/5): Excellent b&b in great location - Very comfortable stay in great location, close to town centre but quiet. Good sleeps, nice breakfasts.
- Emma (10/5): Wow. - We stayed here for the evening in the castle room, wow is all I could say.
The room was amazing and the staff were very friendly and pleasant and made our stay that extra bit special.
Would highly recommend this for a lovely weekend away with your loved one.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A wonderful night - A lovely guesthouse in the heart of Llangollen. Stayed in the River Room which was absolutely stunning. The bathroom was phenomenal and the view over the river was breathtaking. I would thoroughly recommend staying here, the staff are very welcoming and friendly. The location is right in the heart of Llangollen with excellent access to local amenities.
- Paul (10/5): - Great little guest with superb rooms
- Dennis (10/5): SIMPLY FANTASTIC - Simply fantastic ! What can we say apart from Very welcoming from start to finish of the stay.
Carol and the Staff were Friendly, caring, cheerful and very helpful though out our stay , nothing was to much trouble.
It was very clean though out the Rooms were just. Fantastic you don’t need to take anything but your toothbrush. When it says luxury that’s what you get .
The only down side was we were told that Carol was selling up so if who ever takes it over can keep up the high standards that Carol and the Staff have set .
Carol even went out her way to help me with my disability I have with eating solid foods as I’ve had throat cancer. And all I can say is Thank you so much , it doesn’t happen everywhere I go but for Carol just to help from day one without even asking was hart warming and very kind indeed.
Thanks again for such a fantastic stay and hopefully we can return before you sell up .
- Tracey (8/5): Nice But Pricey!! - Cornerstones is a lovely small B&B in the centre of Llangollen. Breakfast was good and our room was nice though we thought it was on the small side. Nothing at all to complain about only the price!!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Visiting Wales great start - We loved our stay .Great location ,nice room with lovely extras from sweets in a bowl to toiletries. Room facing a quiet street . Easy walking to Main Street the beautiful river steam train corn mill . Weather very warm .
- Jeff&Helen (10/5): Great location, Great accommodation - Two nights at superb 5* B& B. And it is 5*. Only three rooms in a former Inn.
Brilliant comfort and breakfast. Right in centre and parking included.
Space, comfort clean and ALL the extras you get in a 5* hotel. Yes, we liked it very much.
- Dave 2 (10/5): A hidden gem! - Beautiful B & B hidden away in the middle of the town, overlooking the river. It only has 3 rooms, but this means the owners give MASSIVE attention to detail. How many hotels / B & Bs can you go to where there are complimentary razors / shaving foam / hairspray / DVDs / wine cooler in every room? Super comfy beds and breakfast cooked to order. Just wonderful!
- Mike (10/5): Cornerstones - A gem that sparkles brightly - Booked Cornerstones for my wedding anniversary weekend away and I was not disappointed. A charming and stunning period property with a fantastic mix of old meeting modern. Nothing was spared and our whole stay was perfect from the small touches like mince pies in the room to a beautiful private breakfast area where you called down your order in advance. Thoroughly recommended.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect little hideaway - Everything about Cornerstones was perfect, from the excellent renovation of the property to the friendly staff. The Castle room was divine! We will be returning!
