• Colin (6/5): - dog friendly, staff a bit inexperienced as breakfast was not set up this may be due to time of year and not usual staff member as l was the only guest, room and facilities need a spruce up.
• Anthony Richard (8/5): - Handy for Rothsey, and a lovely old building. My room was facing the harbour and an interesting view. Tired in places, chair was very wobbly, and doors etc as you would expect in a property of this age. However, the retro-fitted en-suite was good, and nice and clean. Felt like carpet had not been hovered. The Scottish breakfast was nice and not too overwhelming. Just right. The guys running the place were really friendly and polite.

• Anne (6/5): - The room was clean but poorly serviced. A kettle and biscuits were provided but no tea or coffee. The hand wash was empty and since the building is unmanned except for breakfast there was no one to help. The rooms were not serviced.

• Verified traveler (2/5): Avoid at all costs - Not a great experience , room was not very clean and no housekeeping . No staff on site for most of the day so issues not dealt with. Wifi and shower was poor Would not recommend this place advertised as a hotel but it is a poor B&B Staff allowed a family to have a party in the dining room so shouting and screaming till after midnight without any staff on site very inconsiderate to all other residents if the staff want to allow this they should not take other bookings.

Es ist alles alt und schmutzig, Möbel sind billig und wackelig. Empfang ist eine Telefonnummer an der Tür geklebt und es gab kein Wort zum Abschied. Positiv: Das Bett ist sehr bequem und das Frühstück hervorragend.

• Alistair (6/5): - There wasnt anyone there when i arrived had to phone a number for someone to come room was clean but had to wait over an hour for breakfast which was ridiculous when the breakfast arrived it was fine no complaints about but nearly left without breakfast was sick of waiting .

• Margaret (4/5): - The owner of the property was very helpful and friendly when she was on the premises. It was disappointing that On arrival there was no staff on site.I had to ring to find out how to access the building and be allocated a room which I could then not access because of a faulty lock and key. The room I had was nothing like the room in the photo when I booked. The key was in the lock but would not turn and the door was locked. I had to ring again and then had to climb yet another level to find a room. The room was tired and sad looking but was clean and had a very comfortable bed with clean fresh linen and nice towels and the water was nice and hot, the shower had good pressure. The cooked breakfast was delicious and was a generous serving. It would have been nice to have a decent cereal though instead of a choice of coco pops, rice bubbles, cornflakes or raw oats. The option of a simple muesli would be beneficial for those who don’t like 1960’s kids cereals. It was also disappointing and a big deficit that there was no sitting room. When I walked up the street almost every other hotel or airB&B, of which there were plenty all seemed to have a nice sitting area and friendly comfy breakfast and or sitting rooms where you could take refuge if the weather was foul. And let’s face it it rains a lot in autumn in this part of the world. The breakfast room was locked after breakfast.Donna was nice but I would not book here again. Disappointing.

• Simon (6/5): Pleasant Room - A decent enough hotel with friendly staff and good facilities. My only complaint would be that my room (Room 3 Ground Floor) was next to the front door & EVERY time someone used said door, they allowed it to bang shut. Not ideal when you’ve been out to a friend’s birthday party until the small hours! I was told that the problem would be fixed, but I’d check to make sure if you’re offered that room!
• Linda (8/5): Beautiful views - Really good breakfast. Cooked to order and plentiful. Bed was comfy. Lovely towel art on bed. We had a suite with beautiful views over the water and to the mainland. Def a beautiful location !! We had lovely sunny weather too

• Verified traveler (4/5): Very Disappointed - Run down property, no staff on site caused issues for arrivals, key pad entry (code on door) keys in room door. Any issues phone the proprietor on mobile number. Room 8 damp patches on ceiling, double glazing windows blown. Bathroom decoration not finished around replacement toilet and cistern. Beware the electric shower as it goes cold if the low flow light comes on, If you turn up the heat it will burn you when the flow returns to normal.
• Andrew (4/5): Disappointing stay in a nice historical hotel - Check in was a phone call. Room was very dated and everything in a poor condition. No one to help sort anything once breakfast was over. On the plus side had a bigger room called a suite- not like a suite would be in a good hotel but at least proper seating. Breakfast was ok but no cereals just an ok cooked breakfast. All in all disappointing in what is a lovely old building.

• Verified traveler (8/5): Good location but the hotel is a little bit dated - The hotel location is perfect, just opposite the harbour. Less than 2 mins drive to the ferry terminal. We booked the sea view room, so the view was amazing. The hotel and room are dated but very clean. The bathroom is spotless. Good full Scottish breakfast.
• Jane (8/5): comfortable - We arrived on the first day of opening following lockdown. Staff are lovely and accommodated our dog. Beer garden open. No restaurant at present. Need to book in for breakfast. The hotel is looking tired, but putting that aside the bed is super comfy. Stunning views across the water.

• James (10/5): lovely stay will definitely return. - The hotel is run by really helpful and friendly people. Check in was done remotely by ringing the phone number listed on the door and they gave us the code to the lock box and to the securely locked front door. We stayed in room 5 just at the top of the stairs. It had a view onto the garden behind the hotel which was very nice. The room was decent sized and very clean. The bed was large and comfy. The decor of the room/ bathroom was a little tired, but nothing that some new wallpaper/ lick of paint wouldn’t solve. It is situated only 5 minutes walk from the ferry terminal which is great, but it does obviously mean that if you have your rooms window open you may hear the ferry on a morning which may bother you if you’re a very light sleeper. Over all I really enjoyed my stay here, I highly recommend it and will definitely return to stay here.

• Angela (6/5): Rothesay - The decor is very dated and tired, in need of TLC. The sea view was lovely however the room was just adequate. The welcome was somewhat unusual, met by a person in shorts, who asked us within two minutes what we wanted for breakfast the following day. Breakfast was quite nice but a bit cold. no orange juice, there was apple juice or water, enough coffee for a small cup each. Rothesay however made up for the hotels short comings.

• Pedro (6/5): Overlooking the sea - On arrival it was confusing on the door, one notice says ring the bell another says ring a mobile number. The gentleman who answers the door does not say much and needs to work on his welcome. The room is a little dated and to much furniture in it. Bathroom needs some TLC - dirty grout dirty fan and broken lamp shape. Nice amount of toiletries and hospality tray in room. Nice bed linen Breakfast was lovely good orange juice and coffee. Loved the black pudding.

• John (10/5): Cozy, Clean, and Comfortable! - A wonderful hotel with a friendly feel! It's a small hotel (four rooms?), but the accommodations are very comfortable and the en suite bathroom was very clean. The location is excellent--only a short walk to shops and restaurants, the Wemyss Ferry, and Castle Rothesay. The breakfast is also wonderful: you get many choices and I have a wonderful Scottish breakfast.

• Gary (8/5): Weekend in Rothesay - The Cannon House Hotel is conveniently located an easy walk to all the local facilities. We were welcomed warmly and were upgraded to a sea view room on arrival. The hotel is generally well kept but some of the decoration is showings signs of wear. The room was comfortable and spacious with an en-suite bathroom. Overall we were very satisfied with our stay and would recommend the hotel to anyone traveling to the island.
