Guest Reviews
- Chris (8/5): Nice place to stay with great value-for-money - This place is located a little off from the city center and can be reached with the skytrain and the bus. Commercial drive (aka The Drive) is nearby, a neighborhood where you can find excellent food from all around the world, regular street festivals, lots of music, bars, a great diversity of local shops and much more. It is a vibrant place with great cultural diversity that can be explored. A grocery store that is open 24/7 is also conveniently located just two hundred meters away.
Do not expect a hotel as you might know it - the place is closer to a room you rent from a private person. That makes for a close personal contact with the host, who is always helpful and gives very good advice on the interesting places to explore. I have really enjoyed talking to him.
One of the drawbacks though is the limited service because of the lack of a reception. On short notice, I arrived very late due to a cancelled flight and thus could not check-in on the day I paid for. Instead, I had to spend the night elsewhere in the city and come back for check-in the day after in the late morning. That was quite inconvenient and costly for me. Apart from that, I very much enjoyed my stay.
- Nino (4/5): THIS IS NO HOTEL, IT IS A ROOM IN SOMEBODY'S APT - the hosts is a young couple. they are very nice and helpful BUT, this is not a hotel, nor it's a b&b like the hosts like to call it. this is a couple having an extra room in their small apartment and renting it as a superior room in a hotel!!!! it was not stated anywhere on the "hotel" description that this is a private house and should not be on a website like hotels.com AT ALL! apart from that the room is far from being superior except for it's located at top floor under a non insulated roof. old floor, pipes all over the ceilings, simple glasses window (in summer was very hot but in winter must be just icy) and not even a plug for your phone near the bed. the bathroom was small and unfinished, without windows but very clean. the hosts make an effort in making the room look nice but they have no idea of what a superior hotel room is. the house is old so not looking nice in the interiors and the staircase to reach the apartment is dirty and smells. the apt. is very small and you sleep next to the hosts room=NO PRIVACY. I have nothing against sleeping in such a place, I have been a punkrocker and slept literally everywhere, but I mind paying 116 cad for it and I would like to know it in advance, cause maybe that day I need a clean and nice hotel room and not just a bed to sleep! nice people, awful place and very bad experience with hotels.com, which I use since years regularly and never had similar issues with. If this happens just once more I'll stop using this website!
