marieazy (10/5): The Halfway There Oasis Between SF and Tahoe - This hotel always feels like home and is one of California's best kept secrets if you are a frequent SF Bay to Tahoe traveler. Their pool area is honestly one of the best in Nor Cal, but if you like privacy my favorite time to go is in the early winter or spring before it becomes a total scene. The atmosphere totally chages based on whether there is a King's game or not. The patio rooms with the soaking tubs are honestly better than the suites IMHO. One of the reasons I am so fond of Sacramento and love to visit is that it has so many kind and fun people to interact with, and of course, the staff here embodies that flavor of hospitality that makes you want to return again and again. I'm sure I'll see you soon Sawyer! You rock! Love is the message!

Spearellison (2/5): Anniversary at the red roof inn?.??.. - First time ever at the Kimpton sawyer. Went to the Kimpton Sawyer for our 25 year anniversary, stayed in a suite. What a complete disappointment!!! it should be called the red roof inn- They did leave the light on for ya ) there was broken lights. It was old,! stinky , dirty. & not clean. A drinking glass was broken ( thank god I didn’t cut myself! ) so you don’t want to drink any glasses from there, they must’ve gotten the artwork on clearance , garage sale, because it had water stains all over it as if it was in a flood. … place is a joke. Don’t bother. The service, Front Desk, and everything about the place was an absolute disappointment. Nobody was nice, they were rude, they never tried to make anything good. I’ll save my money.

Kelly (7/5): Some big wins and big misses - The good things: 1) They welcome dogs of any size and breed without charging a pet fee. This is extremely rare. My dog is over the weight limit of most hotels, or a typical pet fee is $50-$150 per night. 2) There was a front desk person in his 20s maybe, working the night shift, who was very kind and gave good advice on where to walk the dog. Go about two blocks toward the Capitol and you’ll find a large grassy median. He was knowledgeable and caring. 3) One front desk person in a suit, maybe the manager, helped me roll a luggage cart up to my room, without asking. He could see that it was hard to get through a packed lobby with a cart and a dog, and he just jumped into action. 4) Their bath towels are the softest I have ever felt! The bathroom was well laid out, with a pretty design I’d want in my own home. The only minor issue was the glass wall in the shower is not the right size and water gets all over the floor. 5) It was a very comfortable bed and a great night’s sleep. These things were disappointing or frustrating: 1) They toggle off the manual switch on their handicap doors, making them inaccessible and noncompliant with ADA. Both times the person who toggled the switch back for me, said if I have an issue with it I could talk to the front desk, which is irritating — they shouldn’t be passing me off to another team. They said it’s because the lobby gets cold when the door stays open automatically for 30 seconds. If so, then add a fleece jacket to your uniform. 2) I ordered room service and in the section for allergies wrote “no mayo no onion.” It came with onion. It’s not a severe allergy, but those kinds of mistakes can be serious. 3) The front desk person who checked me in kept referring to my dog as “my baby.” Does your baby need a dog bed? Does your baby need a water bowl? It felt cringey. 4) I skimmed the pet waiver form quickly because of the chaos in the lobby. Later, I read it more closely. If another guest complains about your dog, you could be liable for reimbursing them for the cost of their hotel stay?! That’s ridiculous and way outside the norm! 5) Finally, a tip: don’t check in as a basketball game is letting out. There was a mob of people — at least 100 — coming through the lobby for the parking garage underneath the hotel, which as far as I can tell is valet only. The basketball arena is on the back patio of the hotel. When the valet said they needed my keys as I pulled up to unload my luggage, I gave them my keys. But when I was ready to go inside the lobby, I said could somebody please lock my car? and they couldn’t find my keys. They said don’t worry about it, we’ll find your keys and you can go inside. And I said no way, I’ll wait until you find my keys and lock my car. So, the valet got swamped and didn’t have a secure process. That was an uncomfortable first impression of Kimpton.

Jason (2/5): HIGHLY overrated and lacking substance and good service. - The valet team are all very nice and excellent guest service. This hotel is wildly overrated and absolutely not worth the price. Be warned: there is a hidden "amenities" fee of $179 PER NIGHT that was not clearly disclosed upfront. For what amenities, exactly? The "outdoor pool" that was unusable because it was freezing cold and raining? Or the free coffee and hot chocolate in the lobby? That's what I paid almost $200 a night extra for? We were explicitly told our dog would receive a pet bed and bowls. They never arrived. I called housekeeping at least 10 times throughout the evening -- no one answered. The front desk also did not pick up. Zero accountability. The next morning I finally got through, and when someone did come up, they brought the wrong items. Service across the board was terrible. Staff were unfriendly and dismissive, with the only exception being the valet team, who were actually kind and helpful -- and notably not hotel staff. Ironically, valet was also unavoidable. The hotel advertises self-parking, but when we arrived we were told valet is the only option during this time. So much for transparency. The room itself was nothing special. Stained carpet, basic finishes, and absolutely no "luxury" feel. Honestly, a Holiday Inn offers the same room quality - plus better service and fewer games with fees. Between the hidden charges, broken promises, unreachable staff, forced valet, and overall indifference, this stay felt like a complete cash grab. Save your money. Do not stay here.

Every employee we met was smiling and genuinely helpful, and the valet team was impressively swift and responsive. Housekeeping kept everything spotless throughout our stay. Highly recommend for a comfortable and family-friendly getaway.

DennisAtkinson (10/5): WOW --- just WOW. Absolutely wonderful hotel with fabulous staff - We live close to Sacramento, so we often take "staycations" to surrounding cities. We have wanted to stay at the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel for some time now. We were supposed to meet family for Thanksgiving, so we decided to stay at the Kimpton ... and are we glad we did. What makes this hotel absolutely fabulous is the staff ... everyone from valet, to the front desk staff, wait staff, housekeeping --- they are so helpful, gracious, understanding, and courteous. The bar (third floor rooftop adjacent the pool area) is fantastic. We had one of the best hamburgers we have ever had. The staff was fabulous, and the surroundings are beautiful. The hotel is located adjacent to the Kings Stadium and offers access to several restaurants, and easy walking access to Old Sacramento (one of my favorites). We highly recommend the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel.

Staff were knowledgeable about the area and very helpful and friendly. Also a great location to walk around. All in all such a great stay and I will be coming back and letting friends and family know about it!

From the moment we checked in, the service felt warm and personal. The room was modern, clean, and had that upscale boutique vibe we love. The location is great amd steps away from DOCO, great restaurants, and Golden 1 Center. We enjoyed relaxing by the rooftop pool in the evening, and the ambiance made the whole stay feel romantic and easy. Overall, the Kimpton Sawyer exceeded our expectations. It’s stylish, quiet, and perfect for couples looking for a comfortable and memorable stay in the heart of Sacramento. We’ll definitely be coming back

The location couldn’t be better. Being in the heart of DOCO made exploring the arena district effortless, and even with all the activity outside, the hotel itself felt like a peaceful retreat. My room was spotless, modern, and thoughtfully designed, with all the small details that make a stay feel luxurious. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and I appreciated the little touches—great amenities, soft linens, and a well-stocked minibar. What stood out most, though, was the hospitality. The team goes above and beyond—not because they have to, but because it’s clearly their culture. I felt recognized, appreciated, and genuinely cared for. From seamless check-in to personalized recommendations to quick responses via text, every interaction made me feel like a valued guest. Revival on the rooftop was another highlight. U9895KLshannond (4/5): Beautiful hotel, less than stellar experience - I wanted to love this place so much, but staff fell short at nearly every opportunity. For starters, I called ahead to make sure this hotel was toddler friendly as we were in town for a zoo visit with our small child. I was assured the hotel is family friendly, and we found this to be true. Our issues started at check-in. We arrived at 4 pm for check-in and were told that our room was not ready yet. No big deal! The front desk said it would be twenty minutes, also fine! The bellman (who was absolutely wonderful) moved our bags, and the front desk informed us that they would call when the room was ready. We explored the hotel grounds while waiting. 25 minutes later the front desk called and said they could get us into a different room type than we booked now, a downgrade without a balcony, or we could wait for the room we booked but it would be “at least an hour and a half.” As we had a pleasant but tiring toddler, we agreed to take the lesser room. The front desk staff were not apologetic about this downgrade or the wait. The room was well appointed. Everything was clean and fairly new. We loved how quiet the room was, and felt confident that if our toddler was a bit loud at times, we wouldn’t be disturbing to others, or disturbed by others. The beds and linens were very comfortable. The pool was beautiful as well. When we woke up, I called reservations to see if we had the option to extend our stay another night. I was connected with someone from IHG who, after thirty minutes on the phone and multiple holds, indicated that I would be able to book the same room online. When this didn’t work, as the website indicated the rooms were full or needed an additional two night stay, I was told the room could be booked for another night if I called the front desk. I called the front desk and was told to book the room online. I informed them it was not showing availability online. They told me they would check and call back. I waited 30 minutes and did not hear back. We decided that the frustration and time it was taking to book the room was not worth it for us, as the day was slipping away. I called the front desk and told them that we would be checking out and not to worry about trying to work things out. The front desk person said she would again check with her manager. I told her this was unnecessary at this point. I went to the front desk to get a luggage cart. The front desk informed me that “for liability reasons” I was not permitted to bring a luggage cart to my room and that the bellman would be up shortly with the cart. That was fine, until I saw at least two other guests moving all of their own luggage in the elevators. Just odd. When I returned to the room my mother informed me that the front desk called while I was gone and told her to book the room online. Although we decided we weren’t going to stay, I checked the website and the room was still not visible. The bellman arrives, again he was so kind and fantastic, and we took our bags and waited for the valet to pull our car around. While waiting for the car, the front desk attendant and the manager informed me that the room is posted now but it’s at a higher rate. I tell them again that we have already packed up our stuff and we are waiting for the car to be pulled around. The higher rate wouldn’t have been an issue, had this all occurred in a timely manner, prior to packing up and checking out. We left and were able to check in early at the nearby Hyatt, where we received a free upgrade and complimentary parking. All in all the kimpton sawyer is beautiful and comfortable but the front desk and reservation staff left much to be desired.

The Kimpton Sawyer hit all my marks on my checklist. What an absolute pleasure of a stay. The GM Emily N. was and is a doll, and was extremely refreshing, personal, warm, and all while professional to aplomb. Her staff did a grat job at providing a warm and welcoming staff. A great experience at a wonderfully run locations. I highly recommend a stay here while in fun Sacramento. The middle of California does not get its deserved love and admiration!! Stay at the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel for a pleasurable,memorable experience.

998lesliet (10/5): Above and Beyond - Lovely hotel overall and steps away from the Golden 1 Center. Huge shout out to the staff, as I returned from the Kings game and suddenly was very ill. (Completely sober!) They came up to the room, brought me water, changed the bedding, etc. The help was much appreciated, as being alone in a hotel room while really sick is not a pleasant experience!

Dining options were good inside the hotel and walkable to other shops and restaurants that are between hotel and Golden 1 Center. Staff is nice but forgot to next me to let me know when room was ready. Would’ve appreciated having the fridge available to store beverage too, but it was stocked inside already.

We reserved a balcony patio room, but the patio was filthy upon arrival and we could not sit in the chairs as they were missing the cushions and apparently did not have any replacements. Our room was just ok, carpets were stained & the bedding was very poor quality. The comforter was so thin you could see through it. We paid $2k total for 2 nights and it was so not worth the hype. The only positive was the hotels location, which was immediately adjacent to the arena we were seeing a concert. And when I mentioned these items to hotel mgmt, they offered me a $100 credit on my bill, which I actually never received.
