Guest Reviews
- Johnny (8/5): - Breakfast was a joke, toast and over boiled eggs ....nothing sanitized, coffee was nasty , dont recommend eating anything there . Rooms meh ok , shower very touching one minute your burning next freezing , in a pinch in ok place . Wont go back
- Bruce (8/5): Great Place to Stay - The staff person was friendly and, accommodating about us checking in a bit early, the room was clean, location was in a safe area,
- Violet (10/5): - It’s was a very good check in. Staff was wonderful. Just a lot of construction.
- Wayne (4/5): - room smelled and had bugs
- Rodney (2/5): - While booking my trip I mistakenly booked two hotels on the same night. My booking agent couldn’t seem to change the dates for me but when I arrived at the Bluebird hotel the manager was extremely nice and had everything fixed up in a couple minutes. I would definitely recommend the Bluebird hotel in Melfort.
- Anthony (2/5): - Tired and old
- Christine (6/5): - Very dated don’t recommend for people with allergies due to old shag carpeting and faint smell of cigarette smoke
- Malcolm (4/5): - Very old and dated.
Looks like they are slowly renovating. .
Beds were comfortable.
Price was indicative of condition of hotel
- Jana (4/5): - The hotel is very dated. Staff do a good job of keeping it clean. But old carpet, chairs, bedding .
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Aircondition is not working and fan is very loud, breakfast is just a coffee
- Beverly (2/5): - Weeds were around entrance. At check in ceiling tiles looked like they were about to fall in. Bathroom door did not close in the room.
- Andre (4/5): - Old and tired. Needs updating
- Tovery (2/5): - The photos do not show the true state of the building. Our ceiling was peeling in the corner and there was clearly mold underneath. The carpet was shag and sticky if you weren’t wearing socks. The ‘aquatic courtyard’ has clearly been closed for years, and the billiard room should have been condemned with moldy balls and billiard tables from the collapsed and water bulging ceiling! We even found about a dozen hard boiled eggs left out overnight at a continental breakfast no one should ever touch. I wish I could attach photos of the true state of affairs. Multiple members of our family stayed here for a wedding in nearby St Brieux. We will laugh about this in the future I’m sure.
- Greg (6/5): - It’s what you’d expect for the price and the location. The pool and hot tub were out of service.
- Roger (6/5): - Needs to be remodeled
- Ross (6/5): - The breakfast supplies were inadequate
No coffee grounds available to make coffee, about 100 ml of milk left for the cereal, hard boiled eggs had not been cooked long enough and were still liquid in the centre
- Joe (8/5): - It was good and easy parking ,
- CHERYL (6/5): - Bed needs replacement and the room could use improvements
Ie flooring paint/pictures on wall
- Lloyd (8/5): - Older property but great price.
Simple continental breakfast but it was adequate toast coffee juices milk cereal boiled eggs
I would stay again
- G (6/5): - If you're looking for a place to sleep with clean rooms, it's fine. Continental breakfast is: cereal, toast and boiled eggs, that's it. This is NOT staffed 24 hours. Very dated, and thankfully fast food and restaurants nearby. Swimming pool is closed. Some rooms leak during rain storm. Outside of building and area have not been maintained.
- Ernie (8/5): - No commenti
- Mindy (10/5): - Nice location and friendly staff!
- Marlene (6/5): - The hotel was great for its age etc. I did appreciate that the linens were in great condition as compared to other hotels of similar age. The only complaint is the air conditioning. The room was very warm when we arrived and the very old air conditioner did not do the job to cool it down do it was an uncomfortable sleep.
- Jackie (6/5): - Front desk was closed from 4-6 p.m.
We had to find someone to give us our keys.
Television only worked sometimes.
Bathroom sink drained onto floor.
The room itself was clean.
We got what we paid for.
- Darrian (4/5): - Beds were bad. Burns all over carpet. Room chairs very stained. Breakfast was very minimal and sketchy condiments.
- c61247981 (8/5): Good Hotel - Parking lot is huge.Front desk was friendly but not there 24 hours they leave at 10:30 but you can use your room key to get in the front door.Older hotel so the decor is dated but we didn’t care. Room is spacious and clean with a coffee maker, fridge and microwave. I have heard the pool is closed but I didn’t ask. The TV and air conditioner are in a bad spot. There is one outlet but the cable box is plugged in so you had to choose between the air or TV,we bought a $10 extension cord to solve the problem.
- debbie (6/5): Good for the prive - It was ok for what I paid.Front desk was very friendly.
- Meaghan (4/5): - Staff were easy and pleasant to deal with. Although the property was very clean the bedding, room fixtures and appliances were dated and the blow dryer in the bathroom wasnt functional. Pricing was good, did not get a chance to try attend the free breakfast.
- Scott (10/5): - I have to say, we went in with low expectations as other hotels were sold out for the hockey games. We were pleasantly surprised. The hotel rooms (we had two) were very clean and smelt fresh. Yes, they are dated, but everything worked and was in decent condition. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. For the price, I’d absolutely stay again. The parking lot was a bit messy, but I’ll caulk this up to the snow just melting and they haven’t had a chance to clean it yet.
- Dean (2/5): Not worth the price - When I read hotel reviews, I usually focus on the bad ones to see how “bad” it really is—most of the time, it’s just someone nitpicking about weak Wi-Fi or lukewarm coffee. But in this case, every negative review is spot on.
We stayed here in April because the Canalta was fully booked, and even at $125/night, this place wasn’t worth it. When we arrived at 2 PM, the breakfast room still had a jug of milk and hard-boiled eggs sitting out—breakfast supposedly ends at 9 AM. The lobby looked like it hadn't seen a vacuum in years, with stained carpet and a ceiling literally falling apart.
The pool was chained off for “maintenance,” and the parking lot was a complete mess—no sign of snow removal. We tried using the side entrance once, but it was so icy and dangerous it felt like I was trying to sneak into Kevin McCallister’s booby-trapped basement in Home Alone.
The rooms were tiny and walls were paper thin, as expected for an older hotel, but a fresh coat of paint and a deep clean would go a long way. There were cobwebs on the wall when we checked in, and they were still there after housekeeping “cleaned” the room. The beds were rock hard (some may not mind), pillows were flat, and the bedding was clearly old—but at least warm.
On the bright side, the staff were very friendly. Unfortunately, that’s the only positive I can give.
Next time, I’d rather make the drive to Tisdale, Humboldt, or even Saskatoon than stay here again.
- Brian (8/5): - The operator was accommodating and friendly.
- Brian (8/5): - Good service
- Isabelle (6/5): - Poor breakfast. Only white bread peanut butter jam cereals and not fresh boiled eggs. Coffee and juice.
- Brad (8/5): - It was okay
- Andrea (8/5): - Decor is outdated but room was very clean and beds were comfortable. Excellent customer service.
- Joe (6/5): - Close to where I needed to go , it was good
- Helen (10/5): - Great place to stay
- Paul (2/5): - came in with water dripping right next to the counter/front desk. Got into the room it looks like it was from the 1940s or 50s. I told them ill check our right away, and found another place to stay the night. Met a local and told him i first booked there and you should see the shock on his face.
- Tamara (8/5): Old but Cozy - A good price for what you get. Room was clean and cozy. Only issue is old, dark carpet which is potentially original to the hotel and should be replaced just for that reason.
- christina (2/5): - Was the worst experience ever
- Douglas (6/5): - An older property in need of modernization, but our top was neat and clean. Pool and restaurant are closed. Staff was friendly but not there 24 hours per day.
- Daniel (4/5): - The place is a dive.
- Angela (2/5): - I would definitely suggest bringing your own pillows. I know this is a small town hotel and my expectations were not high... But I at least hope to have hot water to shower. When we walked in, I could smell sewer which I also understand pipes break as it is Canada, Saskatchewan and winter. We just finished with a deep freeze. I wish they would post that the pool and hot tub were out of commission. After I paid for the two night is when I was informed that there also is not hot water but it should get warm. Ok what??? With no discount and now I need to find a place to shower and bath for my grandson. I'm less then impressed. A little communication in what you are walking into before paying.. Goes a long way.
- Shirley (4/5): - Room wasn’t very clean. Stuff found under the couch, under the cushions. Beds did not have fitted sheets on them, only flat sheet. Pool was closed. Not worth the money they ask per night
- I3193BMmichelled (2/5): Not a great place to stay - Out dated, no hot water, pool not open. No discount. Did not tell guests hot water not working till after we payed. We will not be visiting this hotel again. It is not a great place to stay. A drunk man was swinging a golf club in the lobby last night.
- James (2/5): - The pool was out of service which it does not tell you on Expedia, the carpets must be from 1950 and there was a very terrible odour in the hallways which did not go away for the 2 days we were there.
This hotel should cost $50 bucks at the most per night.
- Dwayne (8/5): - Kinda stunk in lobby. Lobby and halls bit on dirty side. Room was clean but very dated. Needs a remodel.
- Christin (2/5): - .
- Glen (6/5): - Carpet in room was dirty with stains and no lightbulb in light by bed and beds were not comfortable.
- Loretta (4/5): - Pool was temporarily closed. Phoned the previous day and were told it was open. Not sure if I believed the front desk in regards to the reason - chemical problem. Asked when it would be open and was told in about 7-10 days. Asked if the pool is ever open and was told -always! Booked this hotel because we were taking our grandchildren.
Room was missing cable box, hair dryer & iron. Cleaning staff was good, brought us the items promptly. They did not replenish our coffee, towels etc. we were staying 2 nights.
Went to play pool-room was not clean, balls missing, golf clubs not replaced (told they were stolen), holes in the drywall.
Hallway carpets were very stained, dog food at side entrance. Has not been vacuumed in weeks. Grounds were very unkept. Grass not maintained, parking lot dirty, a lot of weeds. Building is aging and needs painting.
Could be a nice little place with a bit of work & effort & money put into it.
If you are offering amenities, they should be available and in good condition.
- Martin (4/5): - This site did not gave a work pool, no inside dining, no conteniental breakfast. The booklet in the room was an old Travel Lodge book that said it did have a breakfast. Strongly suggest people to avoid the facility.
- George (8/5): - room was clean everything worked ie t.v. air conditioning and i checked in on wrong day and they didnt charge extra. good people.
- Lisa (2/5): - This place is disgusting! Staff is super unfriendly and are unable to read booking instructions. Verbally aggressive with my son when he walked in with my dog. Pool is broken (said it happened today) but judging by the backed up sewer smell I think it’s been a while. No wi fi. Reeks of cigarette smoke. Other guests inhalers were left in our room which makes me think they can up their cleaning game too. Sleep in your car rather than check in here
- Melanie May (2/5): Worst hotel ever. Stay somewhere else! - This was the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel - and I stay in independently-owned small town hotels regularly. The owner was Manning the front desk and he was so drunk he could hardly walk. It took him several tries to get into the computer, swearing loudly, and then he couldn't find my reservation.. He was happy to rent me a room until I said I had already paid online, at which point he flat-out refused to honour my reservation. He was rude and belligerent. I had to drive over an hour to find another hotel room but I considered that a lucky escape because the hotel looked nothing like the pictures on the Hotels.com website. I'm guessing it hasn't looked like that in at least a decade. I would recommend staying anywhere but here. This place is a dump and the owner is rude and unprofessional. The only good thing was the staff and other people I ran into while trying to check in, who were kind and sympathetic. This did not appear to be a new experience for any of them.
- Wade (2/5): - The room was clean enough but it was very dated. The owner/manager acted intoxicated. i didn't smell anything that he might have been on. Perhaps he was having a medical issue. I asked him several times if he was ok. He just seemed to be really out of it. He mixed up the card keys for several patrons. It was a real mess at the front desk.
- FarAway46325999154 (2/5): Dump, rude don’t stay. - This hotel is terrible don’t stay here.
The hotel manager/ front desk is rude he I called him a week later after my crew stayed here. He was supposed to email it to me when the guys checked out.
He swore at me on the phone and refused to send the visa receipt.
The guys that stayed said the rooms were disgustingly filthy.
- Adri (8/5): - convenient location
- Verified traveler (6/5): It was what it was. - You get what you pay for. We were not expecting too much, the room was ok. Very dated but fairly clean. The beds and bedding were clean. The room was quite warm but the air conditioner was filthy and looked like a sure case of legionnaires disease. Water was running down the wall behind the front desk and it hadn't rained for quite some time.
- wayde (8/5): - We stay here for hockey good rates clean rooms but could use an update
- Raegen (8/5): - The host was very hospitable and friendly. Hotel could use some updates has such potential to be as good as it’s competitors Overall we enjoyed the pool and our room on our one night stop over
- Benjamin (2/5): - Don’t stay here. That’s it, that’s all. Nothing else to stay.
- K Murray (4/5): - Very tired!
- garry (4/5): - pool was closed, pop machine ripped me off
- Joyce (6/5): - It was okay.
- Kathryn (8/5): - The people were very nice. The management was helpful. The rooms were clean. The staff endeavored to provide a positive experience for their guests. I was there on business so this did not matter to me too much, but I found it odd that they had a lounge that did not serve drinks and a restaurant that did not serve serve food. I think for $100 a night I got value for my money.
- Dillon (6/5): - The pictures online show bright comfortable rooms. The room was clean. That is all it had going for it. There was black mold in the bathroom. The bed was like a board and the curtains were from the 1950's and falling off the rod.
- Scott (2/5): - Asked for clean sheets as the one in the room were stained an full of crumbs. Owner became offended and started yelling. We cancelled our stay. Went somewhere else.
- Richard (4/5): - A 20-minute wait to check in, call button didn't work. Empty beer box and bottle caps in room. Empty cans in fridge. No coffee cups till third night. Bedside lamp didn't work. Banging pipes. Dope smoking kids outside. No one at desk for checkout. However, bathroom was well-serviced and spotless, lots of parking, convenient location. Badly needs management advice!
- Jamie (2/5): - Absolutely nothing good to say about this place. Full of water damage and mold.
- Dale (10/5): - It's a large parking lot but few guests
- Diana (2/5): Nope. - DO NOT stay there. I didnt even make it to the room..was a blessing in disguise. the front desk guy which i think was the owner was rude. he said he didnt have my reservation and told me thats not his problem was very rude. when i was about to leave he offered me a room he had , if i wanted to , but it was a "suite" ..by then I was creeped out. So i left and called hotels.com and when they called him he apparentky played sum and told them that he would have to consider the case before returning the $. THANKFULLY hotels.com was awesome and got my refund next day. The place looked dirty and that was just in the lobby. I ended up having to book a motel in a nearby tow and felt way safer.
- Leslie (2/5): - I didn’t like the fact that there was no staff to be found anywhere and that any transient could walk in at anytime. It is dirty with stains on the carpet and bedding needs a coat of paint and smells like a dispensary the same pot of coffee sat there in the lobby for more then 12 hours.
- Cheryl (8/5): - Good value for the price, friendly staff, clean room
- Richard (2/5): - This was a terrible hotel and the manager was absolutely horrible. Do not stay at this hotel!
- Jodi (6/5): - It’s no secret the property needs some work… the decor is the pits, it’s pretty run down, much of it is in shambles. But the room was as clean! The bathroom was clean, the shower was good. The bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean. The staff was very friendly. And the pool and hot tub were quite decent. If we had to stay again, I won’t be that upset about it.
- Brittany (2/5): - this property was very dirty, and smelled really bad walking in.... remote missiing, ac not working limited staff working...wayy too much money for what this place offered.,.... did not want to swim in pool or hot tub as VERY dirty. pictures must be from years ago and they did not do justice.
- Chris (4/5): dirty - the hotel is old and very dirty, there was a dried up facecloth hanging on the shower rod when we arrived I am assuming it was from the last tenant.
- robert (4/5): - It was close to where we needed to be. Property is severely run down and needs a complete refresh.
- Adam (6/5): - I had read some pretty harsh reviews about this property so I had lowered my expectations. The proprietor is very personable and helpful. While my stay was fine, it's very evident the hotel is run "on the cheap."
The property is showing a lack of maintenance and the room I was in was evident the housekeeping staff are cleaning as quickly as possible as areas around the sink were not thoroughly cleaned and I could see a heavy layer of dust under the bed. Overall, it was ok to spend the night, but the Bluebird Hotel is not up to the standards which many expect.
- Tracey (2/5): Run like the plague - Was a disgusting hotel. Owner and staff were drunk all the time. Keys did not work in the doors. Pool license expired. Very unsafe do to drugs and aggressive people entering premises. Wifi did not work. Falsely advertised with pictures.
- catalinah255 (2/5): Reservation made for a company was ignore and guest dismissed - I had booked 2 rooms online from July 6 until July 14 under the name of the Foreman in charge of the crew. After doing the reservation online, I called the hotel to confirm the reservation was done. In that moment, the front desk agent assure me that the reservation was confirmed.
Once our employees arrived later on yesterday (about 10 pm), after a long day working, the front desk agent looked impair and wouldn’t find his name. Not only that, but he just dismiss him saying that “he didn’t like him, and you were fully booked so leave the hotel”. By that time, our employees had to go and find a last minute accommodation.
This is widely unprofessional and unacceptable. As the person in charge of the branch bookings I’ll make sure I’ll never book in this hotel again, due to your bookings are not reliable and you have showed a poor customer service.
- Anna (2/5): - I don’t normally like to leave a bad review but anyone who is looking at this hotel should make other arrangements. Room cleanliness was 1/10. Room smelled and dirt everywhere. Lightbulbs not changed and electrical was poor at best.
Our key cards quit a few times each day and the key lock system completely quit and we were unable to enter our room for 20 mins.
The owner of the hotel was intoxicated at the front desk and would take approx 15 mins to attend to the front desk.
The pool was okay but the hot tub was brown and looked as if it hadn’t been cleaned in months.
This hotel used to be nice when it was under a different name
- Wolfgang (8/5): - Shower didn’t work. Taps difficult. Wifi didn’t work. Staff super friendly
- Stefanie (6/5): - The pool was very cold. The manager on would not warm it up even though we were the only ones swimming.
The room was not very clean, things on the floor in the bathroom and beside the beds.
Fans were running to combat the dampness, but there was a smell.
The main areas are in need of a facelift
- Tim (2/5): - This room was booked by me for a employee to come to our factory from the USA. Person at front desk was drunk. dental picks on floor in room and wall paper falling off walls. room could not pick up internet so they moved rooms and room was in same condition as the other one. was supposed to stay for 4 nights and book at another hotel after first night. will not book here ever.
- Michael (2/5): - I booked into the hotel the attendant was very verbal about cats, as I had a dog. He did not have a problem with my dog. Then we were asleep some one tried to come into our room. My wife stopped them and said this was our room. He went away then about 2 hours later the same attendant that gave me the room was ganging on the door saying open the door. I got up and he was yelling to open the door saying we are not supposed to be in there and he will call the police. I opened the door and said this is our room. He finally said ok I remember you. None of us could sleep we finally got ready and left about 6;00 in the morning. We will never go there again.
- Allan Andrew (8/5): My stay - It was quiet and clean
Management gave me a run down of my activities there ( e.g. swimming pool , gym and billiard table . All in all he was extremely friendly and approachable
- Jeremy (4/5): Proceed with Caution - The room was disgusting. The rug and fold-out couch hadn’t been vacuumed in a long time. There was an old vape pen in the couch. Dust bunnies were in every corner, the bed sheets had old hair on them…it was gross. I did have a pet with me so maybe I was in the one gross “pets” room, but still. I don’t recommend.
- Tabitha (2/5): Run down shack - Front desk staff was polite and trying to sell the place…. But he knew it wasn’t really acceptable. Many ceiling leaks, multiple rooms under renovation open to all, exercise equipment all broken, cereal, pepperoni and a sock found in our room, outdated decor. When I said I wasn’t staying the extra night he said “oh yeah I’m ok”.
You get what you pay for I guess but when other hotels in the area are only $50 more—— go there!!!
He tried. But he knew. Crazy thing you pay upfront to so I couldn’t even get my money back for the second night.
- Kelly (2/5): - Numerous mix-ups and delays to check in. Obvious water damage to numerous rooms. Bed sheets and carpet stained with water damage. Damp odour in the room. Never ever stay here.
- Michelle (10/5): - This is our 2nd time staying here. It is so quiet. The man at the front desk is very nice. My daughter and I love the pool area!
- Steven (8/5): - Hotel definitely needs updating. Water damage throughout building. Pool was too cold. Front desk and housekeeping staff friendly. Beds were clean. Fridge and microwave were handy. Price was fair.
- Jenifer (10/5): - Friendly service and quick!
- Suzanne (8/5): Not what was advertised - Pool was closed for renovations but not noted on the site. No discount for some amenities not being available I booked because it had a pool.
- john (10/5): - All good, no issues
- Bryan (6/5): - Good
- Charlene (2/5): - Only 2 hotels in Mel fort picks the wrong one not clean
- Tyson (4/5): - Need
- Verified traveler (4/5): - When I arrived my confirmation was not received and I got charged an extra $10.00 from the Expedia price. Also had a room with 2 double beds and wanted a queen. The air conditioning-unit in the room was poor.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I liked the pool & the ice
