Guest Reviews
- Anthony (8/5): - Very clean, quite with lovely view from the conservatory. Great breakfast Unfortunately we didn’t have a sea view.
TV reception and choice of channels not great. (It could be the Isle of Wight)
- peter (8/5): Very nice - Stairs
- Jane (10/5): -
- Peter (9/5): - Great staff, clean, great breakfast. 5 min walk from town Bathroom was a bit small. But great power shower.
- Kelly (9/5): Great Hotel in lovely location - What a gem of a hotel! Great location, friendly staff, HUGE room and lovely breakfast. There was nothing we didn't like.
- Peter (10/5): - Suite was lovely views amazing 😁 s
- Patricia (8/5): - Meernähe, Frühstück, Bibliothek
- Éric (9/5): -
- Dennis (8/5): Enjoyable stay - rooms we had were quiet but possibly helped by low occupation (less than 50%) - Breakfast is cooked to order.
Parking free on site
Room/s were clean and typical of a coastal B&B
Friendly owners and staff Bar opening hours beyond 5.00pm
- Philip (10/5): Very comfortable, charming hosts, very clean throughout. - Fabulous location and character property. Great sea view for breakfast. Freshly cooked breakfast was excellent. Car got covered in seagull poo! Bar closed at 5pm.
- Jason (10/5): - Location is excellent only bettered by the brilliant team. So welcoming - nothing was too much bother ! Going home !
- Guest (8/5): -
- Nourah (9/5): I was fortunate to choose a wonderful place to stay, and I consider that the best part of my visit to Shanklin. - Location, Cleanliness of facilities, lobby design, hotel security, and staff courtesy. There is no elevator.
- Judy (10/5): - Comfortable, well equipped and clean room. Friendly owners. Delicious, freshly cooked breakfasts. Great location looking over the sea.
- Jennifer (4/5): Lovely setting, good breakfast, but couldn't sleep - Location was beautiful. Sea view from window was lovely. Staff were nice and pleasant. Breakfast was delicious. Mattress was quite firm and tired/saggy. It was very uncomfortable for me and I barely slept. We had booked for 2 nights, but decided to leave after the 1st night as I was so tired. Manager insisted on charging us for the 2nd night, though my partner managed to negotiate 50% off. So we paid just under £300 for 1 night in a B&B with no sleep. And I was too tired to enjoy the rest of my holiday, which was then cut short.
- Murraay (8/5): -
- Janice (10/5): -
- Anne (10/5): - Location was very good close to our friends
Breakfast was freshly cooked when ordered and a very good service
- Sharon (9/5): -
- Janet (10/5): Perfect place to stay whilst staying on the island - The perfect breakfast to start your day There was nothing in my opinion that could be approved upon
- Annette (10/5): Absolutely perfect!!! - The location was perfect. Views out to sea were wonderful and the garden a lovely place to sit on a warm day to enjoy those views. Very convenient for the village as only a few minutes stroll takes you to shops/pubs/restaurants etc. The staff are the hotel’s greatest asset, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food at the onsite cafe was really good, all cooked fresh on order and the cakes were delicious. Would definitely recommend and hope to return for another visit. The only downside was that there is no lift and a fair few stairs which wouldn’t be ideal for guests with mobility problems but otherwise everything was excellent.
- Mara Nascimento 123 (6/5): No está mal , pero tampoco un 4 estrellas - La ubicación está bien Falta un poco para un 4 estrellas
- Steve (6/5): Nice location - Location stunning although it’s very steep hills / cliff. . Breakfast
Most of the staff were very friendly Single Bed uncomfortable for tall person. Too firm
- VINCENZO (10/5): FANTASTICO - TUTTO MAGICAMENTE PERFETTO.
POSIZIONE FANTASTICA CON UNA VISTA INCANTEVOLE.
DA TORNARCI IMMEDIATAMENTE.
- Rana Zubair (10/5): Good choice for a Holiday - Clean and comfortable
- Howard (9/5): -
- George (10/5): Very friendly team , stayed couple of times before and we will return. - Great owner and team Nothing great as always
- Gelli (7/5): - la posizione, eccellente, vicino al mare e al paesino i bagni desueti da ristrutturare
- Sakina (10/5): - Everything was perfect home to home
- Gretchen (9/5): Our room with the balcony was the best! - Beautiful location. We had a second floor room with a balcony overlooking the sea. I think we had the best room in the hotel. Friendly, helpful staff. Full service breakfast was cooked to order. Beautiful hand crocheted pillows throughout the lobby area. Easy keypad entry for early morning outings to take sunrise photos on the beach. Access to this hotel is mildly challenging. We did not have a car. The walk to the bus was longer than I anticipated, but not overwhelming. My husband has slight difficulty walking long distances.
- JOHN (6/5): Expensive for a guest house - Nice view. Good location for quiet end of beach. Expensive for a guest house
- Denise (9/5): Lovely staff, very attentive. Excellent breakfast - The location was amazing with wonderful views over the sea Nothing to add!
- GIOVANNA (8/5): Bella struttura storica ben tenuta , bella posizione sul mare e con giardino perdonale cortese - Struttura storica ben tenuta, cortese il personale , buona la colazione
- Roy (9/5): Relajante y tranquila. - Vistas al mar. Frialdad de la atención personal.
- Douglas (9/5): Superb - Rooms were good size, clean, comfy bed, breakfasts were nice. Useful having a fridge in the larger room. Desk was in a darker corner so needed to have the desk light on when using it.
- Kathleen (10/5): Exceptional - very comfortable. good food. breakfast was 5 star
- Jkd (9/5): Short and enjoyable stay- Perfect Location - Owners and staff very friendly and accommodating to any special requests. Superb breakfast every day. Perfect location for The Shanklin Chine, beachfront and close enough to the High Street and nearby restaurants. Thank you for an excellent stay.
- Jayne (9/5): Excellent - Excellent location. The view is amazing. Lovely hotel.would definitely recommend.
- Burke (9/5): Superb - Well located. Nice view. Quiet and peaceful.very good breakfast. No elevator.
- Victor (9/5): Excellent.staff very friendly and fantastic liocation -
- Ann (9/5): Fabulous break for IOW festival - Excellent staff, location and breakfast Would be good to have a fridge in the room.
- Paula (9/5): Superb -
- Fay (9/5): Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at The Clifton in the Isle Of Wight. - Location was amazing.
Friendly staff
Lovely homely touches.
- Bryn (6/5): Great building and location, value for money not quite there. - Location was great, the rooms were tidy and comfortable, the bar and seating areas downstairs were very nice. The toiletries provided were also a nice touch. The door to my room didn't fully close so let noise in easily from the hall outside. The staff were not enthusiastic and I felt bad over their reaction to the small requests I had (breakfast 15mins early and paying on arrival rather than departure). Overall I have experienced better value for money in other hotels in Shanklin.
- Zoe (9/5): Great weekend away ,location , staff excellent - Location Rooms a little dated , shower not great
- William (10/5): A thoroughly enjoyable hotel stay with beautiful scenic views over the English Channel. - The breakfast was good quality comprising of a selection of cereals and a variety of cooked main courses; such as a full English breakfast, smoked salmon with scrambled egg on toast or smoked kippers etc. Our room was comfortable and had been recently decorated with a mini-fridge, coffee and teas facilities.
This hotel is a family run business and we really enjoyed our short break. The hotel does not cater for evening meals, but do provide hot snacks. But Shanklin Old Village is only a 10 minute walk away and the Village Inn Pub is worth a visit. The food was good with a varied menu and the staff were friendly.
- Jacqueline (10/5): Lovely Stay - Everything, The Clifton is our favourite place to stay in Shanklin. It's situation on the cliff path means there are great views. The staff are great and very welcoming and the Bistro menu is handy as there's not many places to eat in Shanklin early in the seaon. Nothing
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely Hotel, staff were so good!
Will be back soon.. Leaving!
- Kevin (10/5): Great hotel and will visit again. - Great location. Great Breakfast. Friendly staff lovely room.
- Meghna (10/5): Great first trip to Isle of Wight - The Clifton is about a 10-minute walk from the Shaknlin railway station. Very easy to locate, and a stone's throw away from the Shanklin beach and Shanklin Chine.
The property is very comfortable, clean, and cosy. I liked the food (I had breakfast and dinner) - good variety, and freshly prepared. David (the proprietor) paid personal attention to every detail and ensured that there was absolutely no hitch during my stay.
Bonus: They have a beautiful selection of books to borrow and read during your stay and a lovely beach view to enjoy while taking your meals. Personally, there was nothing that I did not like. However, I did not see an elevator at the property. Folks with access needs might want to check beforehand.
- Li-chen (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly staff and nice clean room!
Convenient to the beach and town centre too
- Hok (10/5): Exceptional -
- Valerie (8/5): Very good -
- Kathrine (9/5): Superb - Great location, very friendly staff, and lovely breakfast!
We really loved the common area and that they served light meals in the evening so we didn't have to go out for dinner after a long day exploring the island.
- Glenn (10/5): really good mid week break, was relaxing and chilled - breakfast was really good and value for money sea view room had a small window, but thats just the design of the building
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Beautiful home with plenty of room to relax and enjoy the scenery. Very convenient for walking down to the beach as well as walking into town
- Scot (8/5): Very good -
- Alda (10/5): Exceptional - Great location. Enjoyable stay, relaxing atmosphere, and views. Everything was perfect. N/A
- Karen (8/5): Mini stay in shanklin - From check in to check out all staff were friendly and helpful. Located on the cliff top with excellent views and Close to Old Village Only downside was the bar shut early
- Mouhammad (9/5): Superb -
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Terry (9/5): Superb -
- Tony (10/5): Exceptional - It was all good. Enough car parking, good WiFi, lovely rooms and great position. Nothing really.
- Julie (5/5): Beautiful outdoor seating area. Service was just ok. - Great location. No air conditioning and window and fan were not enough. Also, lots of stairs. The lack of air conditioning is a deal breaker for a return visit.
- Yana (10/5): Exceptional - Location on the second high cliff line, on site car park, amazing view over the garden and the coastal path on to the see, quite sumptuous and varied breakfast, cozy entrance and breakfast terrace with a bar (love the Sherlock Holmes style arm chairs there!), a mini library on the first floor by the staircase, very clean room we knew it's going to be a small double (we literally booked last minute a probably last room available on the Isle of Wight at a still bearable price), but a chair/arm chair in the room would be appreciated - were though allowed to borrow one from across the door on the floor
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ali (7/5): Friendly welcoming staff, good location and nice breakfast. - Breakfast was good. Small room, no mixer taps on the washbasin and when it rained the water was falling on the lower roof, so noisy. Our bedroom was right up the top, loft area but was neat and tidy.
- Simon (7/5): Pleasant place with great breakfast - Nice Hotel, simply done. Very clean. Great breakfast Knitted blankets on beds....
- Christine (8/5): Very enjoyable in peaceful surroundings - Staff were wonderful very friendly and most helpful Bathroom needed updating . Very dated although clean .
- Michael (8/5): Generally we enjoyed our accomodation and location with some minor issues. - Breakfast was generous and freshly cooked to order. Staff friendly and helpful. Walk-in shower was essential due to lack of mobility. In-room snacks and drink making facilities were excellent. Outside space and garden very pleasant. Another handrail on the main stairway is needed for people with limited mobility. Single bed matress in twin room was saggy and unsupportive.
- Matthew (9/5): The Clifton offers a very beautiful stay. It felt like Home away from home. Breakfast was great, staff kind, rooms clean - Clean rooms
Very good breakfast
Kind staff
Great location
Has character and is pretty
- Catherine (9/5): Very enjoyable and welcoming place to stay . - This was a cosy and friendly place to stay, secluded and quiet with a fabulous view of the bay. We enjoyed the breakfast, cooked to order. The room was rather small, we had to move the furniture every time we wanted to open or close the balcony doors.
- Chris (7/5): Comfortable but pricey . - Peaceful
Great location
Good garden No lift
Difficult to get service on occasion .
- Jacks (10/5): We had a lovely overnight stayhopefully longer next time, the staff were amazing friendly couldn’t do enough very clean - The property was amazing got a lot of history behind it There’s nothing to not like
- Veasey (8/5): Our one night stay was a lovely experience. -
- Go1974 (7/5): Pretty hotel, great location - The hotel was lovely and well looked after; the garden/views especially were gorgeous. Perfect location; just a couple of minutes downhill walk to the beach. Staff were helpful and approachable and the generous breakfast provision was much appreciated. The only downside was the room, which was small for the price and suffocatingly hot. I understand the weather can't be controlled but the windows barely opened an inch or two and the ceiling fan only seemed to work if the overhead light was also on - the consequence being we slept very poorly.
- John (10/5): Excellent apart from shower - Pleasant comfortable stay Shower abit slow and tray filled up
- Liana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jennifer (9/5): Superb -
- Shobhna (5/5): Not worth the money. - The location is excellent and it was clean It is definitely not value for money. Staff was not friendly, breakfast had stale pastries, for a two hour breakfast time they stared closing the buffet half an hour earlier and when asked to clean the room they just made the bed and did nothing else.
- Peter (9/5): Great staff, weather and location. - Great features, period property. Quiet and close to the beach front. Nothing
- Karen (9/5): Lovely spot for a mini break and close to the old town of Ryde and a short journey to the lovely donkey sanctuary. - Great location and excellent view from our balcony. It’s a little quirky in layout as an older building , with lovely garden. Shower was modern and excellent. Lots of attention to detail in what guests might need ( like a rug on the sofa in our room for those cooler moments). We are getting used to smaller beds in the UK and this was bigger than some we have encountered and it was comfy.
The shower curtain to separate the bathroom from the room was a bit unusual, but as an older building you understand they have to work with what layouts they have.
- Oana-elena (8/5): Very good - Good location, lovely garden and nice breakfast N/a
- Thomas (7/5): Pleasant - Location A bit tired
- Catriona (7/5): Nice hotel, excellent location - Excellent location, right on the seafront and close to the town Had lunch there and food was ok. It’s a bit dated. Wifi and TV signal kept dropping.
- Elie (8/5): Lovely place to stay. Brilliant location to explore the Island. - Excellent location. The breakfast was excellent. Excellent coffee. Everyone was welcoming, courteous and very helpful. The standard twin room was large and comfortable. The best part was the beautiful garden overlooking the sea with fantastic views. Limited dinner menu, the chairs in the twin bedroom were small and fairly hard to sit on.
- Eimon (8/5): Very good -
- Tim (9/5): Superb - Excellent staff who were very welcoming, and lovely location and view
- Janet (8/5): Friendly staff, beautiful location - Staff went over and above to make you feel welcome. Breakfast was lovely, and the garden and location were excellent. We were on the top floor, no lift, and the stairs were hard work. Also, there was no air-conditioning, just a ceiling fan, but the room was very warm.
I had a feta salad, I had seen one being served the prevoius day and it looked amazing. Mine came at it looked like they had run out of feta!
- Janet (8/5): Friendly - Friendly helpful staff No air conditioning
- Lynn (8/5): Lovely location, nice hotel & staff but quite an expensive stay for a disappointing room. - The location. It was very well situated for town, the seafront and the Chine.
Clean & comfortable, Lovely garden, very nice breakfast, staff friendly. Room felt small for a couple & rather cramped. It was clean but disappointing & I feel over priced at £895 for 5 nights B & B.
- Adrian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ozgur (10/5): Exceptional - breakfast was very good. room cleanliness was good. although we went in a very cold weather, the room was warm. the location was very nice . our room view was very good. There's nothing I didn't like. Everything was fine.
