• johnwU7858VZ (2/5): Moldy rooms; Staff are awful - We had to move rooms after we found mold over our bed. Wife had a headache every morning. In the room they moved us to, we had no hot water for hours in the morning. The staff the entire time were lazy, passive aggressive, and apathetic. When I was asking about a couple of charges when I checked out, the gal decided to tell me, completely off topic, that engineering could not find any mold in the room I moved out of. I asked her what the point of that comment was, besides to call me a liar, and she just smirked and said “just letting you know.” Becca has HORRIBLE service and the food is mid. Hospitality staff are anything but. Valets are awesome. Carlo and Brock are dope.

• johnkZ7160PF (10/5): Amazing History Lesson! - My wife and I spent last evening on the lawn of The Cavalier, sipping champagne under that golden sunset. We started wondering aloud—were these two hotels always blocking the view? That’s when a gentleman in an impeccably tailored suit strolled by. (Seriously, the fit was GQ-level—my wife couldn’t stop noticing how sharp it looked, maybe I should start hitting the gym) as he walked by and greeted us I half-joking, and asked if he knew the backstory. Turns out he’s Dean, and he didn’t just answer, he launched into this passionate, effortless history lesson. Built in 1927, the Cavalier was saved from demolition by a local guy who’d grown up in Virginia Beach. He poured his own money in, rallied investors, even got state help to gut and rebuild it from the inside out—keeping every original charm while making it shine again. Dean described the Navy taking it over in the thirties and forties, turning it into a radioman and officer school during WWII, stables turned barracks and all. He told it like he lived it, zero notes, pure fire. We were hooked. Then another couple plopped down, asked him to repeat it, and he did, same energy, no shortcuts. It wasn’t just facts. it was pride, like the place was family. We’ve stayed here before, but this random chat? Made it unforgettable. The view’s gorgeous, the bubbly’s perfect, but that Fire side chat turned a quiet night into something we’d tell friends about.

It was such a wonderful experience, we couldn't resist returning in February. Nerisa at the front desk welcomed us like family, and Carlo whisked our bags away with seamless grace. I can't stress enough how great Nerisa is. She is so kind (and funny). I found myself stopping and chatting with her every time I passed her. When we entered our room, he hung our garment bags in the closet. Every moment felt like a page from a storybook- history, ocean breeze, and pure hospitality. We'll be back in April, for my husband's birthday. Timeless, memorable, and just the right sparkle.

It is one of the few venues in our area that has genuine historic elegance. Having lived in Europe for almost a decade, it was a welcome chance to step back into the luxury of a Viennese cafe. Our 3-tiered tray was loaded with tasty treats, from savory sandwiches and croissants to scones with clotted cream to decadent desserts. Our server, Ashley, could not have been nicer. She was attentive and made the whole experience warm and inviting. I would recommend it to anyone that wants a truly memorable moment to relax and be pampered a bit!

I stayed with you about a month ago and accidentally left behind my late brother’s Michael Jordan pullover. This wasn't just any hoodie- many years ago the Chicago Bulls Michael Jordan designed a it's a special edition, astronaut-grade, made for engineers one-of-a-kind piece that will never be made again. He gave it to me before he passed, so it means the world to me. It's way more than just fabric. I thought it was gone forever. After a few emails back and forth, it sounded like a lost cause. Then my niece swung by the hotel and FaceTimed me while Dean from Security went to work. He dug through every single lost-and-found box like he was looking for his own stuff. i watched him double-checked shelves, showing me every shirt and kept me in the loop the entire time. When Dean finally held the pullover up to the camera? I swear I almost cried right then and there. Dean and the rest of the team didn’t have to go that hard for me. But they did, like it genuinely mattered to them. And believe me, it did. 10 STARS! Not for the bed or the view (though those were fine). This is for Dean and the incredible staff who had his back that day. I miss my brother and this was the only thing I have to remember him by. So thank you from a old mans heart. Thanks again, BW
• Mirbaha (10/5): 20th Anniversary Stay at the Cavalier Resort - Thank you for going above and beyond to make our 20th anniversary celebration at The Cavalier during the last week of February so incredibly special. We are truly grateful. As a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite member, I was thrilled to secure a suite upgrade certificate for our February 23–27, 2026 stay. Our original suite, Room 611, was fantastic. Arriving to rose petals, chocolate-covered strawberries, and the Cavalier’s nightly fresh-baked cookies set such a celebratory tone from the moment we opened the door. When heating issues arose in the suite, Nerisa and Jessita at the front desk handled the situation with such professionalism and care. Their decision to upgrade us to the Presidential Suite (Room 706) to ensure a seamless anniversary experience absolutely blew us away. The suite was stunning, with the most beautiful view — an unforgettable upgrade that made an already meaningful trip even more extraordinary. As local “staycationers,” we made the most of everything this beautiful historic property offers. We swam in the luxurious heated pool, relaxed in the hot tub, and enjoyed lounging throughout the hotel’s elegant common areas. The Cavalier’s location — within walking distance of so much in Virginia Beach’s desirable North End — truly adds to its charm. We had fabulous meals at The Hunt Room and Becca. Gabrielle, our breakfast server at Becca, was wonderful, and Kevin in The Raleigh Room on Thursday evening was simply the best — attentive, personable, and professional. Max from room service was also such a sweetheart. The warmth and hospitality of your team are what make The Cavalier shine. As with many cherished historic properties, there can occasionally be operational challenges. During our stay, the elevators were temporarily out of service, and we utilized the service elevator, and we experienced minor functional issues related to heating and minibar system updates. However, your team more than compensated with thoughtful gestures, restaurant credits, room upgrades, and most importantly, genuine hospitality. The service culture at The Cavalier is exceptional. • 123gerriw (10/5): Love is in the air - We went to Becca’s Restaurant to celebrate our daughter’s birthday, as well as her engagement (that also happened at the Cavalier) the day before. Javen was our waitress and she was AMAZING! She was so attentive and she made our dual celebrations extra special for our family. We LOVE the Cavalier (& don’t be surprised if there’s another wedding there next year 😍) We can’t say enough good things about the hotel itself and the staff. You won’t regret it!
• mjJ9162XA (2/5): I want to sleep at a hotel - OH MY GOD. LISTEN TO THE REVIEWS. DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU WANT TO GO TO BED BEFORE MIDNIGHT. This hotel has completely missed the mark. It advertises luxury and that’s certainly what you pay for, but the experience is extremely lacking when at the end of the day you cannot go to sleep because the obnoxious music is heard in every room. The management needs a change. There has been enough feedback. And yes. It’s bad. It’s worse than I thought it could be. Oh and the air doesn’t work. The staff is very friendly. The decisions being made are the issue.

• matthewsV4762OO (10/5): Networking Experience at the Cavalier and Raleigh Room - The Cavalier has first class service from The moment you arrive and when Valet Parks your car to Robert at the front door greeting people coming in and out and the service inside at any restaurant or venue. Kassi and numerous other servers always make it great for networking events inside at the Raleigh Room is a great backdrop to meet family and friends or network for business. Always very comforting and welcoming atmosphere with excellent service that is friendly and always looking to make your experience better.

From the moment we went to the bar she was warm and friendly, attentive, and clearly knew her craft. Our drinks were perfectly balanced, beautifully presented, and came out quickly even though the bar was busy. What really stood out was her inviting personality—engaging without being overbearing, great recommendations, and she made us feel genuinely welcome. You can tell she cares about both the drinks and the guests. If you’re at the bar, you’re in great hands. We’ll definitely be back just for the cocktails and the vibe.

• tamelao945 (2/5): No water, bad service, poisoned me - My husband surprised me with a night at this hotel the week after New Year’s, and we were genuinely excited for our stay. It’s a place we’ve always wanted to experience, and the hotel itself is undeniably beautiful and luxurious. We truly expected it to be a special getaway. We began our visit with an afternoon tea experience for the two of us. When reviewing the menu, I specifically noted that lavender was not listed, which was important because I have a lavender allergy. I felt confident that what they offered was safe. Unfortunately, the tea I was served contained lavender. I had already consumed three cups before realizing this, and I became ill as a result, which affected the rest of our stay. Compounding this, the water at the hotel was turned off for a period of time (overnight) due to repairs. There was no hot water available. After being sick, we asked about showering and were told we would need to wait until the following morning this included being able to flush the toilet after they gave megastro issues in the first 20 mins of arrival. We were then informed that we could use the spa showers the next day; however, the spa shower was also not working. Throughout this situation, communication was inconsistent—one staff member explained the water issue was related to hotel repairs, while another said it was a city problem. To their credit, the hotel did comp our night’s stay, and we were told that a manager would follow up with us. Unfortunately, we were never contacted by a manager afterward. I held off on this review hoping to hear from someone above a receptionist or a waiter. Personally, this was the worst experience I’ve ever had at a hotel, and I would have a very hard time returning. That is especially unfortunate because we love history, higher-end food, and elevated travel experiences—this should have been right up our alley. Instead, it was disappointing from start to finish. I took the time off for this trip, found childcare and cant get that back. Would leave 1 star but they did comp our room.
• Brad (1/5): We got zero sleep after a 10 hour drive. - Restaurant Garbage truck at 5:30 am, alarm clock was preset to go off at 6 am, fire alarm went off, coffee pot had zero instructions for a special machine. Did not work, no coffee. Bed was WAY too soft. Couldn’t roll over without waking up and it felt like a feather bed.

• L2028TLdavidy (2/5): Treated my wife like garbage on her Birthday. - I made reservations for my wife to have a nice quiet night away from the kids for her birthday to relax and recharge. My wife lost her credit card the day before, but called the hotel to make sure they took apple pay before she left. When she went to check in they hotel staff told her that they didn't know who she had spoken to, but that the hotel doesn't and never has taken apple pay. My wife decided to have dinner at the hotel restaurant (the hunt lodge), left cash to pay for her meal and left the restaurant. She received a very nasty call from the restaurant's management saying she needed to come back and pay her tab. She explained to them she had left it on the the table, and they insisted she needed to come back to look for the money. When she got back to the table the waitress stopped by and said another server took it. My wife never received an apology from the restaurant staff for accusing her of theft. It was very clear the hotel thought my wife was beneath serving or worth common courtesy.

• A8955GUjw (10/5): Spectacular Service - We stayed offseason in mid-November. The resort was immaculate, beautiful, and comfortable. The restaurants were all good. However, the service made our stay remarkable. David at Bell Service and Tony in the Hunt Room both made great efforts to help us enjoy our stay. Samantha in the Becca Restaurant made our meals special with her extraordinary service and contagious cheerfulness. Most of all, Nerisa went above and beyond ordinary hospitality and did everything (the list is long) possible to make our stay special. Thank you to those four and everyone else at Cavalier!
• Sightseer777082 (2/5): Hotel Guests Get The Shaft! - We had 2 deluxe rooms for 3 nights over Christmas 12/23-12/26. First, we could not get a breakfast reservation for when we wanted. We will go off property to get breakfast. Next, Upon check in on 12/23 the hotel bars, both the distillery and main bar, were so busy we couldn’t get a drink. We tried twice and waited a very long time. I guess the hotel bars are open to the public, and they take precedence. This is so unfortunate for guests of the hotel, who are paying a premium to stay. When we called the front desk to complain they told us the bars are managed by a different entity than the hotel. As a guest, we don’t care, poor service no matter the management, is poor service and your hotel will be reviewed likewise. You’re charging a lot for a stay, but there’s really no advantage. We will now stay elsewhere.
• Bob_Laredo (8/5): Best Resort in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach Area - Overall, this was a great trip and the Cavalier represents the best luxury hotel in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area. High points – Robert at the front of the hotel. He is a great ambassador for the Cavalier. Valet parking staff were quick, great service. Loved the turndown service with fresh cookies every night. Live music at Tea, Raleigh, and Hunt were awesome. Room service was quick and delicious. Loved the wide selection of beverages available in our room. Lots of water bottles in the room were great. Wifi was good enough. Loved the food at Becca for both breakfast and supper. The igloos were such a nice touch. The lights, carolers, sled, s’mores, hot chocolate and cider were all great touches. We loved our bourbon tour. I bought a bottle. Front desk staff were very kind and attentive for anything we asked. They helped our daughter with some tape on her suitcase. Low points/room for improvement – service was a little slow at Becca’s for supper and breakfast, especially for drinks. Thursday supper, the delicious popovers came out after our appetizers. Shouldn’t this be served earlier? When I made the reservation, I called (instead of online) Marriott Bonvoy to make our reservations because I needed to make sure we had connecting rooms. They told me I had to get two double queen rooms if I wanted connecting. When we checked in, turns out I reserved the wrong rooms if I wanted connecting. Front desk told me that Marriott Bonvoy does not have the correct information. You must remedy this. Afternoon tea – loved the harp music. But we were not given the full menu that was offered. For instance, no egg salad sandwiches. Only one chicken salad sandwich for five of us. No macarons. We got the brie cheese, but no apple or sourdough bread. We felt we were shortchanged. Ashley was great though. Crowd – A busy weekend for sure. That meant that getting a drink at the Hunt room or the Raleigh room was impossible at certain hours on Friday and Saturday. Would have loved to have more waiters serving the crowds in the seats. Food was impossible to get. Consider setting up a mobile bar in the breezeways behind and to the left of the Raleigh room. It does not have to be full service. Raleigh room closes at 10pm on Sunday. Fine, but at 9:35 they were closing and no more cocktails were being served. I did get the bartender to serve us beer and wine though. Bills at Becca Igloo Thursday night, Tea, and room service all had automatic gratuity added. I am fine with that. But the gratuity line should say “extra” not the same as when it was not added at other times we received a bill at the resort. I do not mean to be so harsh, but wanted to cover all the details. The good news is that we are coming back in March. So you know overall we enjoyed our stay. I was able to switch our rooms for March to be the connecting ones. Also, I suspect it will not be as crowded, so hopefully, we can get drinks and enjoy the music at Hunt and Raleigh on Friday and Saturday.
• K6381FZmattd (10/5): An incredible winter wonderland! - The experience staying at the Cavalier far exceeded expectations. Our family has a lot of holiday traditions to get into the spirit of the season, but our stay at the Cavalier has now risen to the top of that list. The room and bathroom were gorgeous and felt very comfortable and cozy. We got better sleep in the room than we do at home! The customer service from top to bottom was better than I've experienced at any hotel. Everyone is kind, positive and went out of their way to anticipate our needs. We felt like we were truly valued as guests. The resort amenities were also beyond what we imagined. There was turndown service, afternoon tea, photos with Santa, s'mores byt the fire, a carriage ride and so much more we didn't even have the time to fit in. Most importantly though, the staff at the Cavalier spend a lot of time and care turning the hotel into what can only be described as a winter wonderland. The lights, the decorations and the winter-themed treats were all the perfect setting to get into the holiday spirit. Thank you to the Cavalier for such an amazing December trip. Special shout out to Carlo who was so kind and helpful welcoming us to our room, Robert for being such a great Bourbon host and Lars for showing us a new standard for hospitality!
• AnnaJaneG9483 (10/5): There is no better place to experience the holidays! - My husband and I visited the Historic Cavalier Hotel for a weekend getaway to celebrate our babymoon before welcoming our daughter, and we were blown away by every hospitable detail of our stay. From the seamless valet and check in experience - after a warm welcome at the door from Robert - to the knowledgeable bellman Carlo that walked us through all of the amenities in our guestroom, they set us up to enjoy every bit of holiday magic the hotel had to offer. The decor was warm, classy, and dazzling, the on-site restaurant options were perfect, our server at the Hunt Room Billy was fantastic and super personable. Housekeeping was thoughtful and detail oriented. The holiday programming was perfection with smores in the garden, carriage rides, photos with Santa, and live carolers. The General Manager was a true hospitalitarian and clearly leads his staff to reflect his professionalism. There is truly nothing I could have added to have made the experience any more perfect.

• M9867EPjenp (8/5): Mocktails should be served at the bars at the function venue - This is my 6th time going to the VA Bourbon Invitational this past Saturday, Nov 8th. We have been fortunate enough to snag tickets on line during the Father's Day sale. I felt that the food was easier to excess this year and liked having more tables out in the covered area. Have the door closed from the pool area was a game changer as that was very confusing with food lines last year. I buy a non-drinking ticket and was disappointed that the only choices I had at the bars was soda pop or water. That was disappointing as they could offer 2-3 mocktails to us non-drinkers and make more money. The Raleigh Room was closed for another event, so couldn't try there. Then walked all the way down to the Hunt Room and they weren't open. I went into the bar at Becca and the bartender there hooked me up though she was shocked that I had to do so much searching to get a mocktail. I ordered the Cherry Limeade and it was very good. She didn't charge me for it due to my troubles. I appreciated that. Not sure if I will return next year mostly because I'd like to have non-alcoholic choices and not have to go on a detailed journey to try to locate one. Luckily, I didn't have to wait in one of the bar lines as people let me go to the bar to ask. If I had waited in line for a mocktail and then found out I could not get one, I would have been fuming and probably needed a cocktail.

Everyone we encountered was so friendly and efficient. Shout out to Jessita and Noreesa in reception,David the bellman,Lala and Sean at Becca, John the shuttle driver and everyone at the Beach Club. We also ate at Hunt Room which was delicious and also had a great server Decklyn .We had a few rainy days but still enjoyed the hotel and Raleigh room. • Charles (2/5): - My stay was only 15 hours and it was terrible. The room I was given was 50 degrees and the HVAC did not work. Rather than giving me a room (as I was in a hurry to get to a dinner) they insisted on sending an engineer. This took much time and he simply confirmed that it was broken. At this point I made Four calls to the front desk before I could get them to provide me with another room. The second room smelled like mildew but I was now late for an event and did not have time to again change rooms. I returned late in the evening and when walking in the carpet found that a 3 food area in diameter was sopping wet from a leak. I also found that one of the two sinks did not drain and actually had 3 inches of water in it. The next morning I discovered that the closet area also had wet floors and that all of my clothing now smelled like mildew. Prior to checking out I called the front desk and told them I wanted to speak to a manger at check-out. The manager was not pleasant and said the most they could do was waive the parking fee ($34 savings on a stay room rate of well over $500). At check out I was in a rush to get to a funeral and called later in the day. After three calls and messages, nobody ever got back to me to discuss how they could make things right.

I let them know in advance I planned to propose, and she helped me pick the perfect location to walk after dinner. we walked down to the chefs garden and she said yes! Robert took the most spectacular photos of me and her in several beautiful rooms. Great staff, beautiful hotel, and we will be back indefinitely! • tamic871 (2/5): Simply Awful Customer Sevice - Other than the bellmen who were very nice and helpful, the rest of the staff need training in customer service. My complaint mirrors that of many of the 1 star reviews here. Front desk staff barely acknowledged us when we said hello, she just looked at us and after a beat, asked if we had a reservation. She didn't get any friendlier during the check-in process, just an angry sour look on her face the whole time, the only words she spoke to us were "do you have a reservation?" And "you're in room..." Then we went to the Hunt Club for dinner. The waitstaff was almost as bad as the front desk woman. We asked him how a particular dish was and he proceeded to read off the ingredients off of the menu. Very helpful. Service was incredibly slow. Dinner took almost 3 hours on a Wednesday evening at 530 pm in an empty restaurant -- I saw only 2 or 3 other tables occupied. The hotel itself is fairly nice, its clean and the rooms are spacious. I have to come back to Virginia Beach in a few weeks and I'm dreading it.
