- NAOYUKI (2/5): きをつけましょう。 - ホテルとは名ばかり…。 事実上、民宿です。 部屋に浴衣はありません。お風呂場まで、取りに行って下さい。それでも浴衣が大きい物しかありません。コーヒーありません。税込みかわかりませんが、￥400-だそうです。布団は自分でひいてください。

- Coolawesometraveller (8/5): Cute hotel with marvelous views - This nice hotel has a great view facing the Ishikari river which offers quite a view. During our visit in November, the river was covered with some snow, which makes it even more pleasant to look at. It was off-peak season and there was only one staff manning the hotel. When we check in, we had to wait for a while for our rooms to be finalized. So we decided to play some pool, hang out a bit around the hotel and so on. Everything was nice and clean. The room that we stayed may be a bit small, but just nice for 3 persons. We had to make our own futon/tatami bed, which is quite common in Japanese hotels. Very cozy, and the views outside was very nice, which faced the snowy river. The hotel provided onsen for both sexes, a pool table, lounge area to watch a movie as well. The hotel entertainment area, located on the ground floor can be very tight if there were many guests coming in during peak season. It is quite a small town, so everything is very accessible. Overall a good place to stay.
- ChrystleAdventures (8/5): Road Trip stopover - We were on a road trip to Shiretoko and wanted to stop into Sounkyo because of the ropeway and beautiful valley. This hotel stood out to me as I'd seen them on Instagram and it looked really nice and was in a very central area. The onsen was good, but all closed off without views. The restaurant was okay, but I'd recommend booking in advance if you want to have the bigger meal with cute individual shabu shabu's. The small set menu is available to be booked on arrival and was nice. We really enjoyed the ease of walking around town, and there was some limited parking options outside the hotel which we were early enough to take advantage of. I think everyone else parks down the road in a large carpark. Wifi was only available in the common areas downstairs, but as we had our own data it didn't affect us. We stayed in the tatami room which was nice and had a heater inside to keep you nice and warm. Would stay again.

- Verified traveler (10/5): - 昔ながらの旅館をキレイに改装してあってオシャレだった。 朝晩の料理も美味しくいただきました。 Wi-Fiが部屋で繋がらないけど、層雲峡自体が大雪の麓だし、そういう環境なのかなーと、またそれもいいかなと思えました。 1つだけ残念だったのは、中国人観光客のお風呂場の使い方が雑で、脱衣所の床と洗面台がどう使ったらそうなるの？って言うほどベチャベチャになっており、まめな掃除がされてないのが辛かったです。
- Kevin (10/5): Stylish and modern place - Sounkyo is a quaint little resort town with not much in the way of facilities, but this hotel helps make up for that. They provided dinner and breakfast so I didn't have to worry about finding a restaurant in the freezing cold. They also have a hot spring, a place to chill and play billiards, and even a movie showing every night in which I regrettably could not partake. I also stayed during Sounkyo's Ice Waterfall Festival, which was marvelous and a bit different from the other winter festivals I saw in Hokkaido. It costs money to enter but if you leave you can re-enter so long as you flash the postcard they give you (that's your ticket). That really helped when I was hurting from the cold and needed to duck back into my hotel to eat and warm up. I can definitely recommend this place in the winter and I'd gladly stay again if I ever visit again in any other season.

- Olivier (10/5): Total „hygge“ in the mountains. - Our stay in the Kumoi has been nothing but great. Cozy rooms, beautiful lobby, clean onsen and lovely staff. We had both, breakfast and dinner, which always were delicious and prepared with care. We were told that there was wifi in the lobby only, but we had no problem connecting on the second floor. Would recommend!

- Verified traveler (10/5): - フルリノベーションされた施設はお洒落で快適。スタッフの対応も丁寧でわかりやすく満足。 料理は標準的な和風懐石で可もなく不可もなし。北海道産の食材をふんだんに使っているかは不明。北海道の美味しいものを期待している人はがっかりするかもしれない。 シングルルームの居室は多少狭さは感じるものの清潔に維持されているが、壁が薄く隣の部屋の物音が聞こえることがあった。洗顔用のタオルをもう一枚用意しておいて欲しかった。 駐車スペースが少ないので満車になりやすいようで、近くの無料駐車場に停めたがホテルから少し離れているので荷物が多い人は大変かもしれない。
- carl (10/5): Great hotel, but not so tourist friendly town - Our stay at kumoi was fantastic, the staff are so friendly and helpful, the room was very clean and the Japanese style bed was great. They even sold us discounted cable car tickets for the mountain, which is only about 100m away..Unfortunately we were very disappointed with the local town though. In the whole town there was only 2 open restaurants and 1 cafe that only opened at 12. It was not very good for western travelers wanting a nice dinner or early breakfast. It looks like a ghost town in summer.

- NickO1078 (10/5): Traditional Onsen Hotel - Enjoyed the hospitality of a Japanese Onsen hotel. It is so different from western hotel. Talked to the local people and enjoyed the wonderful Onsen when you are in there. Friendly and good service staff when they help you to lay the bed if you had chosen a tatami room

If you want supper book before three (I failed) and I had to leave early so never did work out what the breakfast rules were. Other eating options nearby. Run by friendly youngsters, a little haphazard.

Worse breakfast & hotel in my Japan trip (5 hotels) Tip: Steak at the nearby restaurant (Beer Grill Canyon) is pretty good. Convenien store near bus station stocks lots of food (Quality better than Kumoi)
- kayakerjeff (2/5): Paid for Two nights but stayed for one! - Very disappointed with our stay here. I noticed many others with the same complaints. The rooms were so small that our ski equipment and luggage left no room to roll out the small mats you sleep on. There are no beds or furniture. there is no room! I have stayed in traditional Japanese hotels where you roll out a futon and make your own bed but these weren't futons. They were like hard little mats. Also, there is nowhere to eat in this town so you have to eat at the Hotel and its terrible. We came and couldn't leave fast enough. Also, do not come here to ski as the lift is usually closed and the hotel does not give any refunds. Also, I think it took almost an hour to check in. We were told to sit in the waiting area for almost an hour.

- Cheryl (4/5): - We were attracted to the hotel because of its modern look. However, the entire stay was a disappointing experience. The onsen was nice and clean, but the water temperature was nothing close to what onsen temperature should be. A dip in the bath tub could be hotter than their onsen. A staff came by to look into the water temperature, but unfortunately, not able to fix the issue in time (while we were there). We ordered the dinner set too along with our stay, and unfortunately the dinner was pretty bad too. Nothing of those typical Japanese ryokans dinner that you'll typically expect. To make matters worse, throughout our dinner, there was a group of really loud and rowdy guests, talking loudly at the lounge area, which was just beside the dining hall. And when we tried to feedback that to the staff, they just gave a "nothing I can do about that" expression, not even an apology. Overall, a very disappointing stay, and boy were we glad we only stayed one night.
- travelpig_9 (8/5): Well positioned, great staff good facilities. - This is one of those many hotels who are good and so easily could be great... Positioned just below the lower ski lift terminal in sounkyo. There is a dedicated car park under the building, but roof height is low at around . Reception very warm and easy. The rooms are trad Japanese, with DIY futons and Bean bags for chairs. The elderly and arthritic need to note... As a 60s/70s student I loved it, the old "bring a tube and a bottle" was a memory I was able to resurrect here. En suite is tight but adequate There is an onsen with full facilities. At the end of a long day, it is enervating and worryingly soporific...ask. There may be bar and restaurant facilites, but I never looked for them, if you want to eat and drink well, try the Beer gorge few yards downhill on the left to the precinct then first right... Futons may not be ideal for the infirm and/or elderly, but I found this one ok. A great centre in a fabulous area. I would certainly stay again.

- シャラの木 (6/5): - 夫婦で出かけた。Expedia の記述では、ツインベッドということだったが、行ってみたら6畳？の和室だった。トイレが別ということは承知だったが、設備は古い感じ。ただし、清潔に保たれていた。朝食は期待値よりは上。総括すると値段相応ということで評価は中です。 宿泊日の場合、層雲峡地区について、EXPEDIAなどでは、このクラスか価格が2倍以上の高級クラスが殆ど。多少のアップグレードという選択が見当たらなかった。オフシーズンの為か、外部のレストランの選択が少ないことも要注意です。

The lobby and the room are stylish. The staves are friendly and young . Breakfast is the only one menu.The seafood on the rice.We had to move to another restaurants to eat breakfast because my daughter couldn't eat seafood at all. I wanted a towel rack beside a wash stand in the room.

- SJVBeijing (8/5): Great value, helpful staff - I stayed here for two nights in one of their rooms with shared bath. (They have a variety of room types.) It was very clean and comfortable. It was nice to be able to have the screened window open for fresh cool air. Nice to have access to the onsen. Great location close to the cable car station. It’s a short walk from the bus station and has a small parking lot. It was fairly empty in July and very quiet at night. That might be different in high season. In off season there are few restaurant options nearby.
- Hui (6/5): HOTEL STAY - The room is quite small, tatami not comfortable, too hard and pillow too soft thus did not sleep well. Facility wise is good, got billard to play and spent the night.
