Guest Reviews
- Michael (10/5): Very happy and will gladly return again and recommend to friends family - Excellent value for money. Felt at home. Quiet area. Friendly hosts. House had everyyhing you needed plus a library of books and dvds to keep you entertained. Lots of area in the yard to explore and enjoy the natute and birdlife.
- Fuad (10/5): Thank you John you were very helpful and happy and simple - God I can’t explain how it’s feels when I stayed there it’s feels like I’m staying at my parents house the make you feel very very comfortable and sound of birds so nice The sound of nature and the birds
Plus the location is close to the beach the shops
- Iryna (10/5): Would definitely recommend it! - The house and the garden are amazing, there are all the supplies you might need (groceries, paper towels etc.), lots of wall art, books, kids toys, CDs and DVDs. There are electric blankets, a large fridge and even a non-plastic electric kettle. It's nice to see and hear so many birds around the property too. The property itself is perfect. It would be great if the local council installed some street lights on the main Warners Bay Rd, because the turn from this road to the Old Warners Bay Rd is easy to miss in the dark, especially when you are being blinded by the oncoming traffic and tailgated by the cars behind you.
- Evgeny (10/5): Secret Garden - Lovely cosy place, amazing garden you can see how much love was poured into it. Comfortable house with all the amenities. Great collection of music, DVDs and books. Prefect place for a quiet stay.
- Ann-maree (9/5): - Lovely stay
- Jenny (10/5): A home away from home! - Everything! The owners are amazing, the place and location, the serenity! 💜 we love coming here We didn’t like that we had to leave ☹️
- MARK (10/5): Perfect Blend of Location, Comfort and Peace - Great location, close to a wide range of amenities and attractions. The space is comfortable, spotless, and filled with thoughtful touches that make a real difference. John is a consistently warm and welcoming host, making every stay even more enjoyable. We couldn't find a single thing to fault - everything was excellent.
- Reese (10/5): A self contained retreat amongst the trees - The peaceful surrounds, generous, accommodating hosts and spacious living areas. We loved waking up to the kookaburras and appreciated the thoughtful stock of supplies on arrival. Thank you again, John and Elizabeth
- Belinda (10/5): -
- Astrid (10/5): - Lovely stay within a beautiful creative garden. Waking up with the sounds of birds and going to bed while picking a book out of their extensive library. Everything was well looked after. The host was very friendly and helpful. What more could you ask for :)
- Andre (10/5): A wonderful place to stay - a tranquil and serene garden oasis in a central location. - The location was quiet and the gardens absolutely lovely. The unit was comfy and quiet, roomy and very pleasant to stay in. It is only a few minutes from Warners Bay, and 25 minutes from Newcastle city - we went to both locations easily. The hosts were very friendly, and a lot of little inclusions we did not expect showed their consideration and generosity. A wonderful place to stay.
- Graham Coupe (10/5): Exceptional accommodation - John was an excellent host. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The accommodation was superb. Everything was fantastic.
- Josephine (10/5): - Perfect space for our family. John was lovely and the little extras in the kitchen were much appreciated.

- Mandy (10/5): Relaxing, unpretentious weekend away in the beautiful nature of Mount Hutton and a 10 minute drive to Warners Bay. - Host John was very welcoming and chatty. The property is behind the main house but very private with a courtyard and fascinating artifacts throughout the house and gardens, very relaxed and quirky. The brownies and chocolates were a lovely welcoming touch, as were the electric blankets on the super comfy beds 😁 We very much enjoyed a weekend there away from Sydney and so glad we discovered this little treasure. Can’t think of anything.
- Kim (10/5): - Very peaceful and serene setting.
Beds comfortable and warm.
Very clean and well maintained.
Fully equipped kitchen to cook in.
John and Elizabeth lovely and very accommodating.
Can’t recommend this beautiful place high enough.

Everything has been thought of, sensor lights for safety, heating (aircon) units in all rooms, large fridge, stash of free good quality chocolate treats, birds everywhere in the trees (loved the Kookaburra's), comfy lounge and comfy bed etc.. Just blown away by how great this was for the price. Hosts very nice too.
- Ethel (9/5): A comfy cottage in a beautiful garden setting. Perfect for both relaxing in and going exploring from - The location was fabulous. A short drive to the lake and the esplanade and cafes/restaurants of Warner's Bay and not far from Newcastle and its beaches BUT still quiet and set in a peaceful garden. The only sound in the morning was the birds! We were very satisfied with every aspect of this location. The facilities all worked well, the beds were comfy and the cottage was overall spacious with everything you need including a great supply of books.

Some food supplied (eg bred in freezer)as well as coffee and plenty of milk so no stress right from the start. Fridge a bit noisy. Hand basin quirky but not totally functional from my perspective.

The only thing we didn’t like is that we didn’t own it ourselves.

- Danielle (10/5): A hideaway in a city. Tranquil, quirky, peaceful, spacious. - John, the host was so friendly. It was easy to find, directions from John were brilliant. It was a great location, and easy to forget you were in a big city minutes from the bay. It was so tranquil , and the rooms were so spacious. Our family loved it and cannot wait to book again next time we are in Newcastle.
- Rosato (9/5): Cozy, well equiped, and in the middle of nature, while still close to lots of things. - Booking.com Nothing really.
- Howard (10/5): Fantastic! - Everything! I received a warm welcome upon arrival and was shown around the accommodation. It is set in a beautiful garden, set back from the road. I was there for just 2 nights, therefore, I didn't have time to make full use of what was available (e.g. the swimming pool, hundreds of books & DVDs or the sofa!). The kitchen was well equipped and some food was supplied (e.g. bread, spread, peanut butter, vegemite, milk, cereal, pasta & more). The bed was comfortable in a good-sized room. The bath/shower room was clean and with plenty of space. A great location with Lake Macquarie a few minutes drive away. I'm sure I've forgotten something, but I certainly recommend staying here. Really good value for money when taking in to account everything that's available at Werekataba.

- Jack (9/5): Superb -
- Anne (10/5): Unique and beautiful home 💖 - We have been staying at John and Elizabeth's place when we can book it (it's very popular and usually sold out in a flash). It's a beautiful and unique place as John and Elizabeth continue putting their work to ensure the quality of Werekataba. Love the well maintained and designed big garden area outside and love the thoughtful and quality items/things prepared within the house (eg. good saucepans all needed utensils, comfortable lounge, coffee machine, washing machine and a dryer, clothing line outside as well.....). Both John and Elizabeth are friendly and very accommodating, we had to change our plan to shorten our stay due to a sudden change of kids activity, they even modified the booking for us. Thanks so much to John and Elizabeth. No
- Doug (10/5): - Beautiful and calming nature setting, with all the amenities for a peaceful and relaxful stay. Very highly recommended
- Petra (10/5): - What a wonderful property. We were welcomed by the owner, very nice people. The property has a wonderful and welcoming feel. It's tucked away in the bush and very quiet, but so close to everything. We absolutely loved it.
- Kaylene (6/5): Indoor dog smell - Very well stocked kitchen and lounge. There was a very strong dog smell inside the apartment especially in the kitchen and lounge area. No amount of febreeze could mask the smell. We left all doors and windows open but that didn't work either. The spa jets do not work so the listing should say "bath" not "spa bath". The BBQ ran out of gas during cooking.
- Karen (10/5): Very comfortable - Fresh eggs straight from the chickens! The pillows
- Buzz (10/5): Exceptional - Awesome setting and we did not have to bother about the outside world. Just a marvelous relaxation. Great little cottage and setting, perfect hosts. This property suited us to a tee. Leaving
