• Y977PXcourtneym (10/5): Great Motel in the Heart of Soco! - We had such a great stay at Austin Motel for a mother-and-daughters weekend over Mother’s Day! The staff was kind and welcoming, and the motel has a fun mid-century Americana vibe with lots of quirky touches throughout. The rooms are what you’d expect from a motel, but everything was clean and the beds were comfortable. The location in the heart of South Congress was perfect — great coffee shops, restaurants, live music, and shopping all within walking distance. We especially loved hanging out by the iconic kidney bean-shaped pool for happy hour before dinner. The motel also hosted fun weekend events, including a classic car show on Friday and a drag show on Saturday, which was such a nice touch if you wanted something fun to do without leaving the area. Definitely recommend for anyone traveling with pets or looking for a fun place to stay in SOCO!

Die Lage und die Gegend hat uns gut gefallen und in wenigen Minuten ist man mit dem Uber auch in Downtown (Rainey Street zu empfehlen!). Besonders angenehm: keine Parkgebühren, was in Austin wirklich ein Pluspunkt ist. Auch der große Pool lädt zum Entspannen ein. Insgesamt hat es uns sehr gut gefallen, und wir würden jederzeit wiederkommen. -

• Casandra (1/5): Beware of hidden fees - Beware. I prepaid for the hotel in full, a week prior to check in via Booking.com. Upon check in, I gave a different credit card for incidentals and was told the on-hold amount would be credited to my card upon checkout. The hotel charged my card an additional fee for “state tax” after check out. This additional fee was not disclosed to me at any point during check in or check out.

Las habitaciones están genial y muy importante, que tiene parking gratuito que en esa zona se agradece muchísimo. Conseguimos un buen precio por la habitación, por lo que no podemos poner ninguna pega Hubiera estado bien que tuviese opción de desayuno, pero por lo demás no tenemos ninguna queja.

• tomc618 (10/5): Best place to stay in Austin! - Lots of great things to say about the Austin Motel! I'll start with location which couldn't be better, truly in the heart of it all and easy walking distance to fine dining, great shopping, and neat events happening in the downtown area. Parking - they don't charge you for it! I get so irritated when I stay at a hotel in an urban area and then they want to hit you up for a big daily parking fee as well. So refreshing to see that the Austin Motel doesn't do that to their guests! Room was clean and eccentric, truly a fun place just to hang out at. They had a little gift bag in the room for us with some nice souvenirs and some snacks - super cool touch and made us feel valued! Although the best thing about this hotel is the employees we interacted with, the front desk employees were absolutely outstanding! You could just tell that they wanted us to enjoy our stay and have a great time and they certainly backed that sentiment up with their actions! They really wanted us to have a memorable time and that we sure did! Our daughter moved to Austin in August 2025 and this is our first time visiting her there so we will be back and we will stay nowhere else but at the Austin Motel! It's fun, cool, cozy, and they make you feel like family!

• Daydream18031603160 (10/5): Amazing Staff and Perfect Location - This was my second stay at the Austin Motel — an infamous and beloved Austin icon with a character all its own. The location is the obvious draw, nestled among the vibrant venues along South Congress. But what you don’t fully appreciate until you’re actually there is the staff. They work hard, go above and beyond, and make you feel genuinely welcomed and cared for from the moment you arrive. Warm, professional, and sincerely invested in your experience — they’re the kind of people who make a place feel like more than just a place to sleep. As a solo female traveler, I also felt completely safe and at ease throughout my stay, which means more than I can say. This won’t be my last visit.

Would have rather just stayed in any local high end hotel for the same price and had some decent amenities. I guess our expectations were a little higher. Price is double what it should be. • CarrieP903 (4/5): Great location, but damp/noisy room - Motel is adorable and well-kept. Location is ideal and we loved being in the SoCo area and walking from there to explore. Our room was in the lower level of the 2 story building at the back of the property and the room was cute and very clean but distinctly smelled like a swimming pool and was rather damp our entire 3 night stay. We also found it noisy as we heard every door slam from other units and had a noisy family with kids above us the first couple of days. I would recommend requesting the 2nd level if you can do stairs with luggage--I think it would be quieter. Overall, it was a good stay and we would consider the property again for the location.

Congress St., it is close to shopping, bars, and restaurants, and it is easily walkable to other parts of the city! Highly recommend if you’re planning a trip with your besties to stay here! The rooms have fully stocked mini bars and the outdoor community areas are a great addition! Wish I would’ve had more time well in town to enjoy the pool area!

• Perrazul (10/5): I Want to Go Back to the Austin PRONTO! - Great location; there are lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance. The Austin is a nicely fitted, authentic, old-school motel. The decor may not be to everyone's taste but it is fun and cheerful, much like the staff at the front desk. They were friendly, courteous, knew the area and I got the feeling that if needed, they would go the extra mile for guests. The fifties kidney shaped pool was a treat. It's heated and the deep end tops out at 7 feet! The property shows a wee bit of wear but nothing distracting. Bath towels are thick and thirsty. They keep the mini fridge stocked with a nice variety of beverages, alcohol and soft. Beds are low which is a plus for some people. It's kind of like The Beverly Hills Hotel's country cousin; same cool vibes but at a tenth of the cost. The Austin has atmosphere, great service and fun digs.
• O3285OQhannahc (4/5): Great location, but subpar accommodations - The location is great, right in South Congress and it decorated very well, but failed at the sole purpose of being a good place to sleep. At the end of the day this is an old motel that has been decorated well, but it will always be a cheap motel. Staying on the first floor, was terrible, we were awoken every morning by the room upstairs walking around due to creaky floor boards and walking that made the whole room shake.

• Rgtharp (10/5): A glimpse into OG Austin - Terrific location near a lot very lively, very Texas spots. Like Allen's Boot's (fun shopping), The Continental Club (great live music), and Guero's restaurant (incredible tex-mex). That's just a few. I picked Austin Motel for the kitsch of it and nostalgia for old Austin. The rooms are very much just like a regular motel, so prolly don't stay if you need something posh. It was great for value, location, and friendliness.

• Anna (10/5): Couldn’t be better! - This is an iconic Austin hotel. My now husband and I stayed here during our first date (which was me flying to Texas for a 6 day road trip). This hotel is fun, clean, super comfortable beds, and in an unbelievable location to still offer free parking. We loved it 9 years ago and still love it today. The staff is amazing, friendly, accommodating and show that customer service is NOT a dying industry. Everything was wonderful.

It is situated along South Congress, but set back from the street avoiding the busy feel. We enjoyed the pool, which was heated, and being able to walk to dinner and shops.

I have never visited before but after doing research the Austin Motel seems like a good spot to stay. I was not wrong! My kids thought it was so cool, from the lobby to the walkways of light and Christmas trees. Our room was cozy and we loved the in room robes. Front desk was helpful and I was able to text my needs (I needed a steamer!) and they texted right back and brought one up! We walked around South congress and over the bridge to downtown. Everything was available! Highly recommend.

• Adventure53120235530 (10/5): Great, retro vibe! - My husband had a meeting and I tagged (because I love Austin) along but ended up being his chauffer for the trip. The motel was super-cute online; my hubs was really surprised and I was not disappointed. The room was so cute and we were please with the quality of the mattress and bedding, welcome note with mineral water. The place has such a retro feel; she's not an old girl trying to look new, but definitely fresh and fun.

• daneb583 (10/5): A Winter Wanderland - We stumbled into your hotel for a 48 getaway to Austin. It exceeded expectations. The staff were welcoming and the holiday atmosphere was beyond festive. And most importantly the motel was crisp and clean. An additional bonus is free parking which is almost unheard of in downtown Austin.
• josefino72 (2/5): Maybe this was cute back in the day - now no - If you are ok with staying in a room with a door that barely closes or locks, that looks out on a parking lot and is open to the street where anyone can walk right up any time, that requires you to keep a giant key (I guess this it cute from the 50s?) in your bag and has eschewed any modern convenience like irons or multiple outlets, then go for it. If not, then avoid.

Having stayed here dozens of times over the years, it is everything a visitor to Austin could want - central location, great service, unique style, and reasonably priced. They even know my dog by name! The staff is professional and personable - always making it feel like coming home and seeing friends. Dana and Helena both go out of their way to create a cool and comfortable vibe. Highly recommended.

We should have ran the other direction when simply trying to make the reservation seemed too complicated for the front desk girl. Staff was completely unprofessional and rude and had no idea what they were doing. The attitude from a staff of 20 something’s in dirty clothes and greasy unwashed hair was really quite something. The state of the room was shocking, I’d rather stay at a Motel 8 in Laredo. The one bartender kept making rude, nasty comments under his breathe that we were “too rich looking” to stay here. He was right. We left him a huge tip and Immediately checked out and went to the Four Seasons where they remembered our names and had pre booked spa services and complimentary champagne waiting in the room. Now that’s service!

• Bayley (10/5): Great location for a short stay in Austin with access to many main attractions. Fun themed rooms. - Incredible location, fun vibes in the room. Everything was clean and well taken care of Would like an easier check in (long line) and way to have two keys.
• Susan (5/5): Very fun! - I actually loved everything except the room. Specifically, the location on South Congress was close to everything, the pool was clean fresh and fun. They have a bartender serving delicious drinks! The restaurant was so so good!! The room was tiny. Tiny can be okay if they create a place for your suitcase. Like something you pull out of wall, like a sturdy shelf to place your suitcase on. We unfortunately had to place our suitcase on the floor and stepping over it became ridiculous. The bathroom had a yucky shower curtain that blew and touched your body when you showered! So scary.

• Carolyn (8/5): We had a good experience overall and you can’t beat the location. - The location is superb! You can walk to everything. The parking is great. It would be nice if the room had some blackout curtains.

• Fregan (10/5): So Hip! - So glad we ended up at this super fun motel! The decor is bright and cheerful, the room was very clean, and the staff were really sweet! We didn’t get to use the pool area, but it looked beautiful, and the front desk girl said it’s heated when the cooler months come around. Location: about 1/2 mile from the Congress Bridge (we got to see the bats pouring out! So cool!) and walking distance from lots of places to eat and shop. Plus! They have the cutest robes in the room! Love love love the decor! When my hubby and I come back to Austin, this is definitely where we’ll be staying.
• maryaG1225HN (10/5): SoCo gem - Fun vibes. Great location. Excellent service. Globalist breakfast at Jo's was a nice perk. No problems with early check in and late check out. Even received a nice upgrade to a suite.

• Jemma (7/5): Mixed bag! Cool design but quite pricey. - Great location for sure! Design led, great branding. Free parking bonus! Reception staff were friendly and helpful letting us in a couple hours early, frozen margs were turbo! I liked the country radio in the room! Maybe I’m the instagram sucker 🤣 or was just particularly quiet days (but was Thursday and Friday ACL so expected some buzz for the price!) but the pool area (main selling point when staying in small expensive room!) just fell a bit flat. Bar staff left little earlier than we were told, which wasn’t TERRIBLE as I said was quiet, but could have just popped round to ask all 4 of us if wanted one more before left etc, maybe bit too cool for school, or a bad day. Just felt quite pricey, maybe pool day pass it if want a cold dip on a more buzzy day with a (delicious!) marg as room nothing to particularly shout about. But please do see pros.
• sonia (7/5): Plus pour la déco que le reste … - Le look, l’emplacement par apport à SOCO. Le parking devant la chambre gratuit. Il n’y a pas de petit déjeuner Lorsqu’on a une chambre à rez de chaussée c’est un peu bruyant lorsque les gens marchent au dessus.
