Guest Reviews
- Ruben (10/5): - Very convenient location, it’s a hostel, so don’t expect 5 star hotel amenities or cleanliness, but for it was it was great.
- James (8/5): - Location was amazing! There were a few things about the property that weren’t great but just a few small things, overall amazing place
- Koharu (2/5): - It smelled bad.
- bao lin (10/5): - its really convenient.
- Therese (8/5): - This property is located right in CBD. It’s very clean and clients are quiet. I was given a top bunk and staff easily changed me to a lower bunk next day. Disco night on Friday downstairs was a bit noisy.
- bao lin (8/5): - its very convenient to everything.
- Taylor (2/5): - Wasn’t expecting a hostel but it’s a hostel
- Liam (10/5): - It was a nice experience, clean & the capsules were air conditioned and spacious
- Kerrie (8/5): - Great location with transportation, restaurants and grocery nearby. Pods were clean and kitchen had the necessities.
- Jenny (8/5): Basic bed in a dorm - As hostels go, pretty expensive for what you get - a box. Obviosuly if you’re going to be out exploring and you just need a bed - then it’s okay. Room was freezing but then inside the “capsule” when the blind is down it’s very hot and the fan does not work well at all. Felt relatively clean although closer inspection there were stains on the duvet and pillow. I saw a baby cockroach in the bathroom but at least just one. Great location in the centre. Loud at night as it’s in the same place as a bar/ darts club. Bed was comfy to be fair. Small drawer under the bed to store luggage - not easily accessible when you’re needing to grab stuff from your bag.
- Nima (4/5): - Ok
- PUI MAN (8/5): - Good location
- steven (10/5): - Awesome stay, great location
- Jeffrey (10/5): - It’s a cool place to go to especially if you are traveling on your own. The location is also great walking distance to most of everything in Sydney
- Alireza (6/5): Safety - No reception at night is too bad and dangerous also inside room there is not any camera(CCTV) provided for safety as there are no lock for Capsouls.
- Randy (8/5): - Great location!
- Joshua (6/5): - Close to everything in the heart of the city. Only thing is the capsules are what seems to be mould injected or pressed plastic and feel ver flimsy and make all kinds of creaking noises when getting in and out of them. Other than that, all other amenities are good.
- Pete (2/5): - I was woken up at 2am my capsule shaking like an earthquake from a couple. I had no choice but to check out middle of the night. Would not recommend if you want to sleep.
- Jimena C. (6/5): Make sure to demand a capsule that actually works. - The capsule I was in was broken. Clearly terrible maintenance. I couldn't lock my capsule and I felt completely vulnerable.
- Sarah (8/5): - The dorms were clean, quiet and very tidy. Lockers a good size. Bathrooms quite old and damaged tiles etc.
Overall quite a pleasant surprise for the price, however the mattress was so thin it was quite uncomfortable to try to sleep on. Ive had neck pain since.
If my mattress had have been a bit thicker and comfortable, I would stay again.
- Timothy (10/5): - ok showers need atention
- Zacheria Manson (8/5): - Was a bit hard to find first but overall good
- nathan (10/5): Great place to stay if heading out for a few drink - Always a great stay at the capsule Hotel, i Live 2 hours out of the CBD and works out great if i want to catch up with mates and go out drinking, 5 mins walk from Town Hall Station, walk to everything including markets, little Japan with great food, lots of great bars within walking distance, also has a great little Japanese dart bar with Kiren on tap! The bathroom etc is shared but always clean, bedding and capsules clean, if your heading out in the CBD cant get anything more central for the money, cant recommend enough
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great place to stay for lower budget travelers - It's a great place for the price, the location and in fact it's Sydney. The few cons is that reception only open from 10 to 8 which is a short window for guest to check in or leave their bag on the last day. The capsules have no sound isolation which is standard for all capsule hotels but the power cuts off when you remove the card from its slot. This meant that I can't even leave my power bank to be changed while I'm away exploring the city.
- Lawanda (8/5): - I was pleasantly surprised. It was very clean and quiet. No frills or thrills. Cost effective. I would recommend if you’re on a budget. Great location!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Can’t beat the price. Nice and cozy. Much better than a dorm room in hostels. The beds are thin foam. Very uncomfortable beds. If they upgrade the mattresses it’s a perfect cheap simple place to stay in heart of cbd.
- Jane (8/5): Portaloo on its side with a space theme! - I had heard about capsule hotels from an event attendee years ago and wanted to try out as something different, and different it is.
As my partner pointed out, and because I mentioned it was very plastic-y and therefore very noisy when you get in and out, it kind of looks like a portaloo on its side.
Pros. Super cheap place to stay. Communal kitchen really nice, and has tea and coffee, microwave and big glass fridges. Level 3 had the kitchen, compact lounge/dining area and 16 capsule dorm. I found most guests were considerate of others, keeping noise down etc. suprisingly quite on Fri and Sat nights even though a bar on floor below and Works Square outside. Capsule adequate size, nice cosy duvet and pillow.
Cons
- Lizzie (8/5): - The pods are actually much bigger and spacious than expected so wouldn't worry if you're concerned about feeling cramped. It's a great concept however the pods are quite run down and don't feel very sturdy, when someone gets into one on the same block as you the whole thing shakes and the doors are very loud. My door also had tape on it which didn't give a great impression of sturdiness! However all other facilities are decent a great location
- Bryce (8/5): Decent for the price - Decent place in the heart of Haymarket. Capsules provide privacy.
- Laura (10/5): Highly recommended - Loved the capsule. Was very private and clean. It has great little amenities like good lighting, mirror, charges, air con and reduces the noise which is the biggest issue in hotels.
- Hannah (8/5): - Only complaint is that it is very hard to find as it is on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th floors and a tiny sign that doesn’t stand out in any way. Oh and the elevator is absolutely the slowest elevator of all time. Apparently bc it’s old it’s considered “heritage” and so they can’t do much to it- including making it any faster than ~5 or so minutes to get to any floor. Overall, clean, well kept, and comfortable
- Seog Jun (10/5): - Apart from the capsule being a little thin (can hear noises outside), the accommodation was tidy and comfortable. Excellent staff service and located right at next to Sydney Town Hall. Highly recommended.
- callum (6/5): - Only recommend if you want the minimum. Its a shame because if it was in its prime it would be an amazing place but here are the cons.
Dont rely on the lockers if you are travelling with expensive stuff it doesn't take much pull to break the lock off, thats not to much of a worry because the lockers are around other people. In your locker they have nice bedding and a towel but the towel is like 4 bucks to use and to use thier washing machine and dryer its 4 bucks but you need cash for them. On the website it says the capsule comes with a safe and it does but they dont know the combination to them. The capsules them selfs arnt too bad... For me anyway the mattress is sorta thin im 80ish kg and i felt the floor a little bit. The capsules are made of plastic so there is duct tape somewhere placed in the capsule. It is somewhat sound proof the only things i heard was the outside and people either sneezing or coughing i didnt hear snoring so it isnt to bad. Overall there is dust everywhere you cant see eg on the shower head in on the capsule roof grooves. The capsule do have vents but they are noisy on full blast but they do help though i wouldn't like to use a capsule during summer i went during October and it wasn't that bad. Have to leave shoes outside or in locker so dont take expensive shoes.alright now the shower it isnt well ventilated if you go in after someone else its going to be humid there is only a window with a small gap.
- Stephen (10/5): - Nice little oasis in a busiling city
- James (8/5): CBD located for good access. - Perfectly fine place to stay. In the heart of the CBD so lots going on. Capsules provide some privacy. They are quite cheeky and loud, and the mattress a bit thin. Overall it’s fine. Would stay again.
- Brendon (8/5): - Great for a quick stay
- Crystal Joy (8/5): - My Deluxe Single was very spacious and comfortable. My one critique is you have to climb all the way into the capsule pod just to access the touch panel and key card slot to turn on the power. It was very inconvenient, especially when the whole the room was dark. I would suggest the panel be installed right next to the door.
The hotel's location is perfect. Close to many restaurants, shops, public transit stations, and site seeing attractions. It was well worth staying here for the price and convenience.
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Between a hostel and a hotel. You cant beat this location or the very reasonable price. I was there two weeks for work The center of CBD. I brought a camping air matress and some ear plugs and I was set for comfort. Also a container for shower supply to and fro. Locks on lockers not sturdy, but at night there are three locked doors between me and the outside. So pretty safe. A little kitchen and supermarket across the street ideal to keep food budget reasonable. Most of all, the trio that are at the front desk are super nice people as is the kind and thorough housekeeper. A few (presumably) homeless women did make their way in to wash cloths or use the bathroom and/or sit in the lobby, but they were not a problem at all and I appreciate the managements graciousness to care for a few of the community locals in this way. Loved the Dart Bar in the same building and all of the options gor food across the street. Walked everywhere. The Rocks, Chinatown, Darlinghurst all spinni g around this central point. Huge shopping if its your thing. Hyde Park to the Botanical Gardens were an outstanding part of daily routine. Take the 333 at Museum T Station right to Bondi Beach. Central station just down the road a bit and you can really get anywhere with an Opal card. The public transportation system is world class.I came here as I transition to retirement and it was a perfect stay as I retraced my pension to travel the road less traveled since I was a kid. Highly recommend.
- Kahlia (8/5): - It was clean and cute perfect for my 1 night stay for an event at the ICC. My capsule was a little damaged, duct tape around the opening. And they were a little creaky. But apart from that it was all good.
- Natalie (6/5): - The capsules were clean, quiet and close to the central CBD. The other reviewers were correct; the pods are noisy when people move around, but most folks realized this and kept moves to a minimum. The bathrooms were very clean and modern - these were great. Like the other reviewers, I echo the thin mattresses (these weren't comfortable), but if you are ok with sleeping on a stiff-type surface, then this place would be fine for you, Not much outside noise, but my stay was mid-week.
- Adolfo (8/5): - Located in the cbd, in the middle of the city
- Natalie Amy (8/5): Hit and miss - An overnight stay late at night. Didn’t feel safe with the bar in the same complex. Check in late it was tricky. I would suggest coming in the day and the bed was too soft I could feel the hard bottom. The reception was great looking after my bags the next day.
- Sundeep (8/5): - The deluxe pod is great value for money.
- CWei (10/5): - Good walking distance to many places
- Nicola (8/5): - Easy to use without any bother
- Jittiya (8/5): - Overall was good, the property was clean and quiet. Worth price for short stay. My AC was noise that only one thing annoys me while sleeping. Recommend this place for who needs a rest while waiting for a flight.
- Divya (8/5): - One of the better hostels I’ve stayed at. The other reviews about the bed being a bit firm are indeed true. Only two toilet for entire floor but luckily I went at a time when it wasn’t too busy. Staff was very friendly and I do like how the card key could be used for locker storage. Property was pretty clean and overall not bad!
- Ben (2/5): - Pods don’t lock, lockers don’t lock
Multiple people tried to break in during the night
Stuff was stolen
Told management & they said “I don’t care”
- Mark (6/5): - I liked the location and price.
- Anna (8/5): - Great affordable option to stay in Sydney. The hostel is super well positioned in the city - nearby to 2 metro stations within 7-10 minutes walk. The hostel has a basic kitchen - no cooking stoves but microwave, fridge for food storage. The capsules are fairly comfortable. It is nice that you can close the capsule door, it has a light and ventilators built in. The capsules are not sound proof so you can hear the neighbors but overall it gives you privacy, good and clean place to sleep, great location and sufficient amenities within the budget.
- steven (10/5): - Great low cost option for the city centre
- Andrew (10/5): - Very well run, excellent amenity. Safe.
- Pujan (2/5): - Was a terrible place to stay, was excited to stay in this place which looked like futuristic but they gave me room 519 which was hard to find due to no9 missing at the end and the room looked bothing like the one that i was given. The ine that i was provided looked like a coffin with no air con.
- Judith (6/5): - Very hard to find not clear on maps small signo after hours help
- David (6/5): - It was as expected for a budget accommodation/hostel. People were friendly and it was pretty quiet. All in all pretty good
- Jorge (10/5): - All was good
- Mark (10/5): - Great place to stay on your own, convenient
- Louise (4/5): - This was a difficult place to stay with low ceilings, no TV and generally uncomfortable.
- Ashim (10/5): - Great place.safe, clean, helpful staff.I will pick this place every time.
- Seth (4/5): - the capsules are made of paper thin plastic. Every movement/sound made in the capsule you’re connected to shakes and makes very loud noises in your capsule making sleep harder than if you were just in a normal bunk. It’s a cool concept and all it would take is a little more investment/design improvement in the actual capsules to execute but unless you’re okay with risking very little sleep I wouldn’t recommend
- Stephen (10/5): - Clean. It's not the Four Seasons but the price is good. Station nearby. Good if you just want a place to sleep and shower. It's a hostel with privacy. Staff are helpful.
- Viet (8/5): - The property is in good location, easy to reach every touristic areas, public transportation are right there, lots of restaurants and bars around. Staffs are helpful but not so smiling. The facilities are old but still reasonable. In general, it is a good place to stay.
- Te Kerekere (6/5): - The capsules could have been better insulated from each other. I could hear everything going on in the other capsules, I could also feel when the occupant above mine climbed into theirs. But, it served its purpose, for sleep, luggage storage and proximity to my event venue.
- Gavin (4/5): - Mattress to thin may as well be sleeping on the floor. 1 shower didn’t work.
- Lisa (6/5): - Great location and good capsule, however bathrooms need some serious work. One shower had the knob broken off so the shower could not be turned on. The next shower I moved to had clumps of hair around the drain and walls. The bathroom area had a general pee smell and needs more cleaning, as well as mats as it is just wet tile outside the shower areas.
- David (10/5): - Easy late night access and
- Kaj (4/5): - The concept was cool but the delivery failed. The cheap plastic pods were broken and you risked slicing your hand open where they'd tried to duct tape it back together. Everything creaked so there was no way to do anything quietly with respect to the other guests in the room. You were expected to store your towel in the cupboard with your belongings where it was damp and there was evidence of mould. The window was left wide open (and too high for me to close) so got all of the street noise and bad weather noises. The fire exit with a sign which clearly said to not keep open, was propped open the whole time with a plastic sign. Communication from the staff was very average. You get what you pay for and this place was cheap. It's also in a realy central location, convenient for getting around, and the pods were fairly clean. No side table, no working screen as pictures may suggest.
- Quang (8/5): - I really enjoyed my stay here! It was surprisingly pleasant and had exceeded my expectations. The atmosphere was nice and facilities were updated and quite modern. I would have given the capsule hotel if only the bedding was more comfortable. I did feel the underlay beneath pushing on my back. Double mattress options should be included or availability for request. :)
- Bianca (8/5): - Check-in/out was simple. Staff were friendly. Spiral staircase up 4-5 levels, or a very long wait for an ancient, but functioning lift.
The capsules are made of flimsy plastic that make unfathomable amounts of noise at the slightest human movement during the night.
Pillow and doona were comfy, mattress was marginally too thin, but tolerable. Bathrooms were adequate but probably really do need a refresh. At the end of the day the shower was warm and with good pressure, so can’t complain too much.
As always at shared room accommodation like this, your quality of sleep hinges on the respectfulness and common courtesy of your roommates. One of mine woke up at 4am and extremely loudly and uncaringly packed her back for an entire hour - plastic rummaging, throwing piles of food containers into bags, zips open/closed. Despite her disrespect, I have tried to provide an honest review of the hotel, even though that really tainted my night’s sleep. For the price, worth rolling the dice on decent roommates at this well situated hotel!
- Alexander Joel (2/5): - $20 deposit
Bed uncomfortable
No shower toiletries so I skipped having one.
I barely got any sleep that's how uncomfortable it was.i do not recommend
Bed is way too low on the floor or above.
Not noisy
- Amr (2/5): - Horrible
- Christine (8/5): Good value - Overall it was great value and a good experience. I booked the deluxe pod with side opening which offered a lot more space and privacy because you are surrounded by fewer people on each side.
The location is perfect if you want to be central - there are shops and restaurants galore right outside. Although it's on such a busy street, the capsules do block a lot of noise so I was able to rest and sleep easily each night. All the other guests in my dorm were respectful and quiet. Everything is kept very clean, but some parts of the hotel could use some updating or maintanence (like the level 3 showers).
My days of backpacking are long behind me so this was a great option to have somewhere with privacy but without the expense of a standard hotel.
- Sung Min (10/5): - Good
- Rohan (8/5): - I think the beds could be a bit thicker, I understand that it might get in the way of the safes, but I guess you could put the safes higher up where the radio is, as I don't se the need for a built-in one these days, or they could be put in the lockers if that's feasible, just some ideas.
I also found the blue lock light being permanently on to be a bit disturbing as I try to sleep, though I'm not sure what the situation is regarding the locks. I would feel safer I could still lock them, but I get why you wouldn't allow that anymore.
Some more soundproofing would also be nice.
And I noticed that one of the showers was a bit flooded with some of the water pooled in the vanity area for both the nights that I stayed at.
Apart from that, it was still a satisfactory stay in a great location, with decent facilities and amenities.
- Sue (10/5): - Value for money
- Candy (10/5): - Privacy and kitchen in a great location for a good price.
- Jonathan (8/5): - Cool experience. Nice location. Easy access.
But have to admit that I don't like the capsule
Bit disappointed they're made out of cheap plastic that cracks and creaks each time you move. It's an awkward setting to get inside and out of one as its a massive mess of noise pollution. I think you should have spent lore money on the actual capsule as that's the experience we're going for.
- John (10/5): - I was happy with all aspects at the Capsule Hotel. My space was clean and safe and centrally located. Staff were supportive and friendly to a first time visitor. I will surely make use of this Hotel again.
- Anita (8/5): - Cool place to stay at!
- Ronald (8/5): - Was better than I expected.. I will definitely be back
- Caitlin (4/5): - The bathrooms are disgusting. The wooden surrounds of the doorframe are literally rotting away and are mouldy. There is no grout in between the shower tiles. The windows and in the shower are disgraceful and caked with I don’t know what. The window frames are mouldy and rotting away. Missing tiles. Paint is peeling off in chunks of the ceiling and holes have been terribly patched.
The bathrooms are so poorly maintained that they cannot possibly be kept hygienically clean. They appear clean but when looking closer they are filthy.
The non-working tv latch in my capsule was broken so it hung down constantly. strip lighting in behind the mirror was falling off and when plugging something into the usb it turned the mirror lighting on and off. Only half of the other lights in the capsule worked.
visible duct tape holding the door and entry of the capsule together. The stair to capsule did not pull out like the other capsules so it was extremely difficult to get in to the pod.
They gave me (5 for tall) a top capsule and locker, the locker is up so high I could not reach the hangers on the hanger rail and couldn’t even reach the back of the locker.
plastic wall of the capsule are so thing the sunshine could be seen through the plastic- as I was on an end capsule next to the window and although they had curtains up the ones directly behind the capsule were not closed so they did not keep out the light of a morning- capsule was what was keeping the light out of the room.
- Rachelle (10/5): - Amazing, so convenient and easy. Thank you
- AHYOUNG (4/5): - I still didn’t get my deposit for towels
- Joseph (10/5): - Clean and quiet
- Kalin (2/5): - Couldn't lock my capsule door cheap capsule bad design would never stay there again
- Angelo (4/5): - A cheap place to sleep in Sydney CBD. However you keep hearing people getting in/out the other capsules most of the night. Found stains on the matress. Toilet and shower are working fine.
- thinh (4/5): Amenities not provided as per advertised. - The lift was out of service on the last night until next morning of check-out, no staff was available to assist with luggage from the fifth floor down the stairs. Toilet seat was broken, only one of the two showers was available to use for all guests on 5th floor.
- Joseph (10/5): - Great location
- Joseph (8/5): - Very affordable accommodation centrally located near Central Station
- DANIEL (8/5): - no
- Olga (8/5): - It was very pleasant time and stay at Capsule hotel,it was first time for me,unusual and different, but would do it again for sure, thank you
- PRESTON (6/5): - I liked the price of the accommodation, it was easy and convenient.
Main issue was the noise from other guests and the train noise.
- Kerry (8/5): - The hotel suited my requirements... And was as described... Showering Amenities are aging... But kept clean...be polite .. the staff are friendly and helpful ... And explain the requirements in describing your stay
- Manuel (4/5): - This is inside a heritage building and not a good way. I booked one night here to compare with Capsule Q. I found the two female employees here to be friendlier than the one guy at Capsule Q. However, Capsule Q is cleaner and the capsules are fully functional. The locker here was easy to open manually meaning that I could pull the door and it would open so not secure. The capsule door lock has been disabled and most of the dashboard functions are also dissabled. Rendering it a casket with a light. Not very futuristic. The hallway smells like cigarette.
- Sofie Amalie (4/5): Would not recommend - Would not stay here. Really hot in the pods - bad air. There is a fan type system, but it’s not that cold, you can not control it yourself and it is really noisy. Everything feels dirty. Worn down and old. No light or soap in the bathroom - had to bring my phone flashlight. Thin mattresses. Also, the length was not an issue for me as I’m not tall, but research the length of the pod if you’re a male.
- Tay (4/5): - Instructions on how to find hotel were not clear, spent hours back and forth trying to find and rushing to meet before 9pm although self check in was available. Please make it more clear after hours check in is available. Hand dryer broken, sink broken, the capsules were incredibly noisy. Person above me going in and out whole night shaking the entire capsule, bunk beds would have been quieter. I thought it would save me money and time staying here, ended up costing a fortune in parking, hours wasted unfortunately. Could have been really great at least the pillows were comfortable. No staff had provided me wifi, not satisfied
- Anne Marie (8/5): - I liked how central is was to major destinations in the city
- Maureen (10/5): Far better than expected - Very impressed with service over phone and face to face and great value for location and price. My last visit made me return again
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everything was great, Bed was comfy, friendly staff and very clean
- Luke (8/5): good Value for money - The capsules are relatively quiet compared to others I’ve had. Very much a hostel vibe! There’s a nice bar on the rooftop. Only negative was the dirty sheets I was given, they had some dark stains. Overall a good experience and good value for money!
