Guest Reviews
- Jimmy (9/5): Great stay! - What a fantastic little pub and hotel! Pleasant staff, good beer. Comfy, quirky little room! Nothing
- William (7/5): -
- Tiago mota (1/5): - . Very poor experience with cancellation handling and communication at The Bellw in Winslow.
A booking was made in error and cancellation was requested within minutes. Despite the extremely short timeframe and no use of the reservation, there was no flexibility or willingness to resolve the issue.
Communication from the property was unhelpful and dismissive, with no attempt to support a genuine mistake scenario.
On top of this, there is inconsistent information regarding check-in times (website states one policy, phone support gives another), which creates confusion at the point of booking.
Booking.com confirmed that a cancellation fee waiver was appropriate, but the property still refused to cooperate, making the resolution process unnecessarily difficult.
Overall, the experience shows poor customer handling, inconsistent information, and a lack of flexibility even in obvious error situations.
- Lisa (5/5): -
- Vanessa (6/5): -
- Angus (10/5): - Everything Nothing
- Philip (8/5): Comfortable Stay - Good central location. Clean, warm room. The bed was a little bit too soft for my personal liking.
- Dannii3617 (9/5): - Authentic rustic, and kind and staff. No sign of a ghost, but a very pleasant atmosphere and fantastic food. Bathroom radiator needs a clean... There is no shower gel provided, (which we knew in advance) but still forgot to take, no complaint here, if I could change anything at all, it would be the shower curtain, it kinda hems you in when you're in the shower. Also needs a mattress protector.
Would we stay again... Yes definitely love it
- Julian (10/5): Perfectly comfortable, very good value, nice staff and venue. - Breakfast was a bargain, room was very reasonable, spacious and comfortable. Much nicer than a modern, purpose built hotel with 100's of soulless rooms. All the staff were responsive, courteous and not too formal. Nothing to fault.
- Susanne (9/5): -
- Peter (10/5): Always enjoy my stay here. - Everything!!! N/A
- Crowley (10/5): Overall it as great and perfect for I needed. - I stayed one night and it was lovely. The food was good and I had a lovely night's sleep. Staff and facilities were perfect. There was no one on reception when I checked out so just had to leave the key. For the cost, it would have been nice to have a meal included - dinner or breakfast.
- Walmsley (8/5): - We liked everything about the hotel. Everyone was friendly and helpful, the food was lovely, especially the breakfast!
The Bell is in a beautiful, central location, with plenty of parking.
We also had an upgrade - thank you. Nothing to dislike, it was a really enjoyable break
- Nicola (10/5): Good old fashioned pub stay - Typical old fashioned pub accommodation but comfortable, clean and warm. Staff are very friendly and efficient
- mark (10/5): -
- Peter (10/5): - N/A
- DEBORAH (9/5): Enjoyed our visit - Very close to family easy to get to food very good , staff very friendly and helpful the hotel was lovely stay

- Kevin (9/5): Been there 3 years running & it just gets better! - Great location, super staff & fabulous food.
- Adrian (9/5): -
- Dahlene (4/5): The lunch/evening food was very disappointing. Frozen chips and a burger that was raw in the middle - We didn't have breakfast because we remembered that it was not nice the last time I stayed
- Amy (8/5): A beautiful old pub in a great location. Great atmosphere! Food is excellent! - The history and atmosphere The rooms weren’t as pretty as the ones pictured but still nice and clean.
- Helen (10/5): Enjoyed our stay very much looking forward to next year - Location excellent for our needs , very homely and tranquil
Lovely welcoming n warmth feeling to the place Nothing
- Martin (10/5): Highly recommended. Accommodation, Staff & food brill. Great value for money. - Great welcome as soon as we walked in. Staff were fantastic especially Fran & her apprentice lol.
Great atmosphere in the bar, cracking food at sensible prices.
Warm room, proper hot shower & comfy bed.
Absolutely recommended & will definitely stay again. The only feedback I could offer is to get the hoover under the bed occasionally. Certainly not a moan as it was such a great stay so hope comment not taken negatively as that’s certainly not the intention.
- Pamela (8/5): Really good value for a room in a traditional pub - Friendly pub
Excellent location
Good food Nothing really
- John (7/5): -
- Caroline (10/5): Perfect - We arrived in our 3.5 ton horsebox it was easy to park and secure in the car park. From the minute we arrived nothing was any trouble, fantastic staff, great room, bedding, towels, tea and coffee plenty of and the bonus steak and Stilton pie for dinner and sausage and mash were really nice. Thankyou and we will be back when we next go to Addington 🐎 Nothing
- Peter (10/5): -
- Sarah (8/5): -
- david (1/5): - Nothing Everything
We paid wish we hadn't
We put the keys on the bed and walked out
Then booked at Harwood house
Can we have our money back please
- jo (8/5): Friendly and welcoming perfect for my overnight stay. - The staff are welcoming and friendly. Food is great - I had a delicious pie. The buildings are full of character. Great atmosphere in the bar with a good mix of people. My bedroom was a bit tired but it was good value for the price
- Solveiga (10/5): A unique, character-filled stay with a warm atmosphere and a true sense of history. - I really loved the character of this place — it genuinely feels like history is still alive in the walls. The old furniture and little details, like the traditional shoe polish kit and even the trouser press, made it feel unique and authentic rather than just another hotel. Breakfast was lovely, and the coffee was surprisingly very good (and I’m quite picky with coffee!). The pub downstairs had a great atmosphere in the evening — busy, cosy, with a real small-town feel. The pies were honestly some of the best I’ve had, and you can see why, with all the awards displayed on the walls. Nothing really stood out as a negative for me. I’ve seen some comments about the hotel needing refurbishment, but personally I don’t agree — for me, the charm is exactly in its authenticity and history, and that’s something worth preserving.
- Janet (8/5): We had a very enjoyable time and an ideal location, food was great and the homemade pies were excellent we even brought - The character of the pub and location The stairs 🤔
- Steve (9/5): -
- Christopher (8/5): - Very friendly staff breakfast was excellent would recommend if staying in the area Just getting a bit dated
- Jennifer (8/5): Warm welcoming atmosphere in traditional pub. - A traditional pub with warm atmosphere and good accommodation. Very popular and friendly with a happy feel and convenient location. The staff were only too willing to help if needed. We enjoyed our stay very much. All was good.
- Steve (5/5): Lovely staff but issues with the rooms. - The staff were lovely. Eventually we got a pleasant room. The room we were first given had mould around the window. We asked for another and were shown two other small rooms with beds against walls. The fourth room as much better and there we stayed for 2 nights. I think this must have been an upgrade.
We accept it’s an old building and that brings its own issues.
The breakfast food bar on the first morning had been standing for a while. On the second morning we learnt what ask for as fresh and what to avoid.
The hotel is known for its pies and they were very good for dinner.
- Doreen (8/5): Friendly, comfortable stay. Excellent breakfast. - Interesting quirky building
- Rachael (7/5): -
- Rachael (8/5): -
- leanne (10/5): -
- Eamonn (10/5): - Such a wonderful atmosphere Leaving
- Ross (5/5): Nice enough stay for a night but wouldn’t use for longer. Food was great though - Really enjoyed the food Very dated within
- Kerry (9/5): It was a treat to stay in a hotel with such a long historical past. The room we dined in was dated 1666! - The staff couldn’t be more obliging. The food was amazing: best meat pies in England! The beds were very comfortable and everything clean. Nothing
- Ruth (8/5): A quaint central and traditional Pub Stay Hotel, a little worn around the edges... - This is a lovely traditional pub hotel. The family room was large and had a huge bathroom with a nice bath. The pub serves delicious food and has a breakfast which was very good. It is in a nice central location with two supermarkets within walking distance and free parking. It is very quaint and gives you a nice traditional English Inn experience. The staff are lovely and very helpful! They also turned over the room without being asked and everyone was very happy. Parking is included, which is very helpful. The double bed was quite small. You are unlikely to comfortably sleep two adults. The decor is a bit worn but is also fitting with the style of the hotel. The TV is an older style flat screen with very limited channels (a lot of shopping channels). There is a slight draught from the window, which you can feel if you are in the bed next to the window. It wasn't uncomfortable, but you want warm pjs if you are travelling during the winter.
- Osayuware (10/5): -
- ken (10/5): lovely place to stay. Excepional food - friendlyness of staff nothing
- Alex (10/5): - Good clean and friendly staff Was clean hotel
- WENDY (2/5): Disappointing. - The bed was comfortable. The room was poorly decorated and in desperate need of an update. The carpet felt dirty and the bathroom was shocking.
No toiletries provided apart from a tiny round bar of soap.
No coffee in the machine in the morning , difficult to find staff to help, coffee dreadful when provided.
- Timothy (7/5): no shower gel, no shampoo -
- Steve (10/5): - Friendly staff and customers. All great.
- Natalie (9/5): Short, sharp and perfect for our purpose. - Excellent breakfast. And a delicious dinner too. It was all good.
- Derek (7/5): Apart from falling in the jacuzzi it was very good - Bathroom lacked safety features such as hand rails for assistance
Does this come under Health and Safety
If not it should
- Michael (8/5): met all my needs -
- Lee (10/5): -
- Peter (10/5): -
- Richard (10/5): I will return and use this The bell hotel again, enough said! - Breakfast, dinner room all excellent, staff very friendly, helpful and welcoming N?A
- Georgia (9/5): -
- Mathew (10/5): Definitely would stay again - The carvery was absolutely gorgeous Only thing I would have liked was and extra blanket.
- Alan (8/5): Ideal for my needs - I was there for a function and it was convenient and cost effective. Room was a little tired and needed up dating but suited the purpose
- Osayuware (9/5): Excellent - Cosy and comfortable Nothing
- Huw (8/5): It was fine for what we needed. -
- Gregory (8/5): - upgrade to room
- Pinks (5/5): Needs improvement - The beer was good The hallway to the bedrooms needed updating and the floor in our bedroom was sloping
- Susan (8/5): -
- Herridge (7/5): - Lovely place been before bedroom needs updating but comfortable staff brilliant
- Maurece (6/5): i would say a 3 star accomodation - the main comfort was the bed. incredibly comfortable there was a column by the bed and I could not get of the bed that side to go to the loo during the night. i had to climb over my husband. there was only a very tiny lump of soap at the sink and nothing in the shower cubicle to shower with. not happy about that
- Lee (10/5): Definitely will return - Had a great nights sleep nice and quiet
- Ruth (8/5): Nice friendly place to stay. - Lovely room. Plenty of space. Good bed. We ate there and the food and service were very good. Room was very warm. I prefer to sleep in a cooler room. Radiator in the bathroom was very noisy all night and affected my sleep. I informed the staff the next morning.
- Kevin (10/5): -
- Patrick C (8/5): Ideal Location to stay for attending "Festival of 1000 Voices" concert and "afterwards". - Good selection of beers and wines. Friendly staff (same staff as last year, always a good sign). Evening until midnight with Choir from Festival of 1000 Voices continued singing. Unlimited self-serve breakfast, not time-limited. Free car parking next to hotel in their car park. Owner present at breakfast time. Will stay again.
- Luke (8/5): - Lovely big room. Bed comfortable. Loud music from the bar area until midnight.
- Richard (8/5): -
- Gregory (7/5): - staff
- Meriel (7/5): Warm and clean but the facilities could do with updating. - Lovely traditional pub, nice warm rooms, comfortable bed. Excellent pies sold at the pie shop in the hotel. Terrible shower, little more than a trickle. Double bed seemed very small, I can’t imagine two people in it, luckily I was on my own. Poor lighting in the bedroom and not enough sockets: could not plug in the kettle without putting it on the floor.
- John (6/5): Ok - Convenient for our destination Room small - not cleaned or towels changed
- Kim (1/5): Over priced, shabby, not what's advertised. Think seriously before booking this hotel. - The evening food in the bar. The room was supposed to be a double. The bed was at most four feet wide..the room was six feet wide by 10 feet long! Extremely shabby. We asked to be moved and was offered a room in slightly better decorative order but it was the same size. We did move only because it was much cooler and slightly cleaner.
- Sarah (10/5): Quaint hotel in beautiful Buckinghamshire town. - Heart of the town, convenient for shops, cafes and restaurants. Not many electrical sockets.
No shampoo / conditioner / body wash (only a bar or soap) - not the end of the day, as there is a shop over the road.
- Michelle (7/5): Nice old fashion hotel providing old world charm. Some updates to the facility would be nice - Breakfast was a nice british breakfast, an option of fried eggs would have been nice to have as scrambled eggs get boring. For this reason I chose not to eat all breakfasts at the hotel.
- Mary (9/5): -
- Jamie (9/5): - Beautiful old building. Cosy place to stay with great menu at the bar
- Jane (9/5): A pleasant hotel with friendly staff. - Quirky hotel. Easy to forget where your room is!
The main part is an old building with beams, several staircases and a welcoming ‘feel’.
Modern bathroom facilities.
We slept well and enjoyed our morning breakfast, which was clearly labelled with gluten containing ingredients. (I am a coeliac) Our adult son, who also stayed a night tried a pie from the pie-shop and said it was delicious.
- Robin (7/5): -
- Kevin (8/5): Comfortable and relaxing stay - Great location in town centre, comfortable & friendly atmosphere, good food inc breakfast, dinner, pies and good beer. Community pub, restaurant , hotel, very cosy Some aspects of the room were a little dated and in need of tlc
- Louise (8/5): -
- Patricia (10/5): -
- Ian s (9/5): Only 1 night stay . Will return again and stop longer to get the true experience. - Very tradional . Lot of history .lovely room . Breakfast excellent . Food in bar again very good . Bought a pie to take home from there award winning recipes . Excellent . Shower was very poor in room (19).
- Katharine (5/5): Not great - The location of this place is very good and it has parking. It was nice and warm which was great for the coldest day of the year so far. The whole place including the bedrooms are very tired and outdated. It needs updating as could be fabulous. We did not like that they were playing GB news in the public areas as this is a very biased news channel and not for everyone. We stayed here as there is the accommodation in Winslow is very limited but if there was another option we would have moved.
- John (9/5): Great stay - Friendly staff and lovely pub
- Oros (6/5): -
- Rosemary (9/5): Very good comfortable accommodation with excellent food - The location and atmosphere.
- Susanna (8/5): Traditional English Inn with Tudor beams, friendly staff and beautiful surroundings. - I have stayed multiple times and every room is different - full of character and history. Staff are always helpful and the location is great - right opposite market square of small town, set in beautiful countryside Not great for all mod cons … no usb ports etc …the kettle sometimes needs creative thinking to plug in somewhere sensible to actually make tea.
- Tim (5/5): Not as good as the first time we stayed - Breakfast and location were perfect
Staff helpful and polite the mattress was terrible and may need replacing
The room window could not be closed so was noisy, although need the window open as it was so hot!!
Although I booked a four poster bed, we did not get that!
- Nikolas (9/5): - Clean and cosy hotel No shampoo or shower gel
- Kaye (9/5): -
- Holloway (9/5): Lovely stay in a classic old coaching Inn - Nice historical buildings, very friendly warm and cosy, with lovely breakfast included and we used the excellent bar / restaurant for delicious evening meal . Everything basic that was needed including cooking facilities in our room. We were fine on all counts but .. Car park gets full quickly and car needs registration on arrival, the hotel layout and room locations could be difficult for the less mobile.
- Jane (9/5): Great nights sleep! - A very quirky hotel with pleasant and helpful staff. The bed was very comfortable and room was spacious.
Breakfast was good snd the requested fried eggs were cooked without complaint!
Our son had a pie the night before which he said was delicious.
- Joan (9/5): - Good value for money, parking onsite Room a little small, some areas a little tired.
- Therese (6/5): -
