Guest Reviews
- Denisse (10/5): - La cabaña y caminata al río
- Guest (9/5): -
- Wouter (9/5): - Hele hulpvaardige eigenaar. Mooie huisjes. Prachtige eco-lodge.
Recomendable.
- Jill (10/5): If you enjoy having a more tranquil experience, don’t miss Winíka if in Palenque - A true highlight of our trip! We feel very lucky that we got to experience Winíka! Helena and Abel are wonderful hosts. They were always available to answer our questions and provide assistance. The food was very good and made fresh using ingredients from their property. Our cabin was lovely and very comfortable. The pool was exceptional. It’s peaceful and quiet with just the sound of birds and occasional howler monkeys. We did not have a car but transport was always available. They provide tours. We spent a day seeing the ruins of Yaxchilan and Bonampak. Our guide, Sebastian, was extremely knowledgeable, spoke good English and had a great sense of humor. A long day but very worth it! We highly recommended Winíka! Nothing
- Yannick (9/5): Jungle joy - - Jungle feeling, a lot of wildlife
- Super helpful and friendly hosts
- Very nice rooms and cleaning service
- Christine (9/5): Superb - The owners were very friendly and happy to help in any way they could. Taking us to Palenque was no problem and also making us a late dinner. There doesn't seem to be any flexibility on having an early breakfast. The restaurant closes at 4pm, although as I said above, they were happy to make us dinner.
- Jessie (10/5): Wonderful - Cabins were clean and comfortable and private and the property is gorgeous. Elena and staff were wonderful and helped arrange rides and tours. It would have been nice to have screens on the windows to keep the bugs out when we wanted to open the windows.
- Ian (10/5): Hidden Gem In a Peaceful Natural Setting - Pool was excellent. Nice size and appreciated the natural filtration system they created to keep the water clean. We stayed for 3 nights and they offered different breakfast options each day. Very tasty food. They also grow some of their own food (eggs, ducks), or alternatively get their supplies from the local community. Excellent family run eco-lodge in a wonderful location close to attractions and in a natural, quiet setting. It was perfect for us. No significant issues with our stay.
- Marta (9/5): Lost in nature! - Very welcoming, cheerful, and helpful hosts.
They served us breakfast earlier so we could arrive at the opening of the archaeological site.
The father showed us the moon through his telescope: beautiful! The bungalows are basic, with comfortable bed, recommended for those who want to experience something different in nature! The road to get there is rough in its latest part.
- Federica (9/5): Great stay in the bature - Lovely locarion in the nature, simpke but spacious and clean room. Very tasty breakfast.lovely and very kind staff. They prepared breakfast 30 min earlier so that we could be at palenque for the opening. Tx! We arrived after sunset and the last part of the road was very dark. Would recommend to add a couple of lights.
- Andrea (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect stay in the jungle at a sweet family hotel! Especially the transfer service to the maya ruins and the maya train station was very helpful! And great food as well! Greeting to Helena and her dad 🙃
- Alexandre (10/5): Really great! - Everything was really great! The garden is really beautiful, full of hummingbirds. Abel the owner and Elena, his daughter, took really good care of us, gave good recommendations and organized our visit to Yaxchilan and Bonampak, with an excellent dériver and guide. They also organized our transfer to and from the airports.
- Miguel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jonathan (8/5): Very good -
- Thijs (7/5): Good -
- Veronika (9/5): Beautiful place to be - Beautiful place to be, very silent nothing
- Naoko (10/5): Magical stay in middle of the jungle - Everything was great. It’s super spotless clean and such a beautiful experience to stay in the middle of the jungle. The bungalows are well constructed so you can enjoy your view of the jungle and sunset with privacy. The restaurant was amazing as well.
- Luca (10/5): Greetings by Luca and Jessica from Italy 😊 - We liked everything, the place , the people , as well as service and cordiality.
Beautiful complex of cabins among nature
- Mirjam (10/5): Beautiful jungle embedded rooms with excellent service in a peaceful surrounding! - It is embedded into wonderful nature and the staff is very attentive and very friendly! Nothing.
- Cate (10/5): Super nice people, wonderful place - The quiet country setting and farm to table menu, the freshwater pool and private cabin with a deck. The family winnika!
- Joel (9/5): Superb - Wonderful little hotel with a super helpful and nice staff I wouldn't recommend it if you're driving a small car... the last 500 m are quite bad. Even if it was not raining, our car got stuck in the mud one day and needed help to tow it. It's probably better if you drive an SUV, AWD, etc.
- Thomas (10/5): - Winíka Alterra is a small, family owned hotel and resort. The property consists of eleven private cabins. They’re very well maintained and with all the amenities. The staff is very helpful, accommodating, and detailed oriented. All the meals were delicious, fresh, and locally sourced-made from ingredients found at the hotel’s on site farm. (They even make their own chocolate which is used in the duck mole, desserts, or served hot). The beds and bedding are very comfortable, The quiet, jungle environment makes for a restful stay. Our only suggestion would be to invest in entertainment options during rainy days, such as a ping pong table, card games, or family friendly board games.
- Maya (10/5): Little paradise close to Palenque - Beautiful cabines in the middle of the vegetation. Excellent restaurant. Really nice people. Close to the ruins and road to the waterfalls. Nothing
- Tanja (10/5): Absolut amazing hotel & staff - The accommodation and the family who look after it are a golden find. The houses are in the middle of the jungle, you are immersed in nature and everything in the hotel is designed to be in harmony with the environment - even the food is home-grown and was some of the best we had on our trip. The warmth of the staff also deserves special recognition. We had a few transportation problems and they helped us immediately and with all available resources. The houses are superbly equipped, very, very clean and even with several guests it feels as if you are on your own. You can easily get to the Palenque ruins with the hotel's own transport at any time and be picked up again, it takes about 15 minutes. We had no car during our stay, so you can access the hotel also via Taxi. All in all, a really great stay (10/10) that we would definitely recommend to anyone. nothing
- Jon (9/5): Tranquil setting and a great alternative to staying in the town of Palenque and highly recommend this place. - Amazing location surrounded by trees with seclusion from the hustle and bustle of life. A great chance to observe wildlife and lovely welcoming staff that where incredibly helpful. We saw humming birds outside our room, saw howler monkeys and watched the parrots fly over to roost at night. No negatives but bear in mind you are not that close to any shops.
- Rebecca (9/5): Superb - You feel very close to nature staying at Winíka Alterra.
The natural swimming pool is fantastic!
A family of howler monkeys was staying near the property, which was wonderful to see.
- Chiara (10/5): Amazing stay in the middle of nature - Beautiful hotel in stunning location in the middle of nature. Nice, modern cabins with private balcony, A/C, and comfortable beds and pillows. Great to go to sleep and wake up with the sounds of nature. We saw an array of birds, big iguanas and heard the howler monkeys.
We were lucky to be the only guests there. The staff are amazing, very helpful and kind. Breakfast from the restaurant is very good, we also had lunch there one day which was great. We wished we stayed longer!
- Jerry (10/5): Peaceful stay with fantastic natural swimming pool - We loved our night here and wished we had stayed for longer! The natural swimming pool is great and the cabins are also lovely with great big windows.
All the staff are very helpful and friendly.
A perfect place to stay to relax with the noises of the jungle Nothing
- Melanie (8/5): We enjoyed our stay there 🥰. But the price is too high for Palenque. - The bungalows were nice designed.nice pool area and beautiful view from the restaurant.Beautiful nature around . Part of the bed was damaged, things like this need fixing before new guests are arriving.
- Fransiska (10/5): Relaxing in the jungle perfect stay to visit Palenque - We had a wonderful stay during our travels in Mexico. The perfect location when planning to visit Palenque right in the middle of the jungle. You can hear the monkeys and the staff is extremely friendly. Peaceful and relaxing with the natural pool. The food was extraordinary, we loved the breakfast lunch dinner and desserts. The road to the hotel is a dirt road, we came by taxi which was perfect. Would not recommend waking with luggage.. they have a taxi to the Palenque sight, laundry service which was excellent and can even organize a private driver to San Cristobal de las Casas. Thanks!!
- Gilles (7/5): Good - Nice staff, clean room. The green swimming pool.
- Stéphane (10/5): Exceptional - Very peaceful, very nice people.
- Jan (9/5): Very comfortable room with nice pool and open restaurant, very friendly hosts. - Pool was very nice, nice open restaurant, room very comfortable with terrace, very quiet place, people very friendly and very well speaking English ! portions in restaurant were a bit small, a bit dirt road to reach the place but acceptable and only 500m.
- Machteld (9/5): Superb - Nice staff, lovely place, natural swimming pool
- Daniel (9/5): Superb - The rooms were very clean and comfortable I found some prices at the restaurant exaggerated and unfriendly. We ordered eggs, wanted a bread loaf and had to pay 75 pesos for 2 bread loafs!! (5 USD)
- Tobias (10/5): Atmospheric and relaxed environment - Very atmospheric and relaxed environment. Small resort run by a friendly family. Natural swimming pool is great for swimming and relaxing. The restaurant has a nice terrace overlooking the jungle and they make tasty fruit drinks. Evening meal was nice too. During our tour we enjoyed relaxing here for a few days.
- Ruud (10/5): Cozy cottages in beautiful setting - The place is really great! The cottages are spacious and have a cozy veranda overlooking the wonderful garden. Swimming pool is lovely and the restaurant offers a nice variety of food. Staff is great and very welcoming. We warmly recommend Winika for visits to Palenque! Nothing
- Carlos (9/5): Superb -
- Casper (10/5): Perfect location - Very friendly staff…good restaurant Nothing
- Valentin (10/5): Relaxing stay - First of all: Palenque did not turn out to be the Pueblo Magico imagined, so we were very glad not to stay in the city. Easy to get to the archeological site without getting into the city.
Super friendly reception. The cabin had the AC on, so it was nice and cool inside. Everything was super clean, even the shower head looked like new. The bed was firm and super nice for sleeping. Great attention to detail.
The pool was amazing and it was cleaned every day. Having a restaurant on site was also a big plus. While expensive for Mexican prices, the food was good but the servings are small.
Breakfast was also good but the servings are small. We like a big breakfast so that we can have a late lunch.
Parking on the property, absolutely secure.
Overall a great experience and we would come back in a heartbeat. Wi-Fi is not stable or fast enough. They should look into getting a Starlink.
The road is a bit of a challenge but doable. Just take it easy ;) I would recommend cleaning some of the trash on the road.
I would have loved to have a small desk in the room.
- Mikael (9/5): Superb -
- Sol (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mikael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rengan (10/5): Exceptional - Such an incredible place to stay! Beautiful cabanas in an organic farm, exceptional local food fresh from the farm. The service was caring and we had the best time staying at Winika!!! Nothing. We had such an exceptional experience
- Jon (9/5): Beautiful, family-run place - highly recommended. - The hotel is a family-run place with a beautiful setting in the countryside outside town. The owners are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We visited the Mayan ruins, Aluxes park (which has many types of local animals) and the forest. When we let them know we are vegetarian, they went to the market and bought different vegetables we had never tried before to cook something special for dinner. Gabriel, who works in the restaurant, is also very kind. The breakfast was very good. In general, it is great to see a small family-run place that focuses on sustainability and local culture.
- Heaven (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was absolutely perfect. From the owners, to the staff, the pool, the food...we had the best three nights here and we wish we stayed longer. We spent most of our time at the hotel because it was just so relaxing and beautiful. Can't wait to visit again.
- Jo (10/5): very pleasant stay for four days. Elaina and her father were so welcoming and helpful in all areas. - loved the way the cabins were situated. the pool was wonderful thought a bit pricey
- Laura (10/5): A birder/ wildlife enthusiast’s dream - What a beautiful place! Food is amazing although a little expensive. Chilaquiles Verde was the best we had the whole of Mexico and make sure you get a tascalatte! Staff did everything they could to help us and made us feel really welcome. Bed was super comfy and room really clean. Highly recommended!!! We were so sad to leave.
Also, the bird life here was incredible- we saw trogons, a squirrel cuckoo, aracari, hummingbirds and toucans to name a few while sitting in the restaurant. Twitchers this is the place for you!
- Savvas (9/5): Superb -
- Linda (8/5): Very good - We liked the beds and blankets. we missed a fridge and glasses
- Calvin (10/5): Fabulous stay at a family run piece of Heaven - Had a wonderful stay for 2 nights while visiting Palenque and surrounding areas. Cute, clean family owned/run boutique hotel in nature. Elena was super nice and accommodating.
The breakfast in the morning was so wonderful. They have a great community dinning area and bar down by the pool. We had drinks by the pool one afternoon and ate dinner as well. Most of the food is from their on-site farm.
The rooms were nice sized and EXTREMELY clean. Was very impressed how spotless they were everyday considering we were in the jungle.
This hotel would be a bit challenge IF you didn't have your own vehicle but I'm sure they would be able to work something out. Thanks for a great stay! We will be back! The only challenge was the access road from the main highway. If you have your own car, not an issue but could be tough when raining.
- Harry (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful place, cabins nestled in the forest, with howler monkeys sometimes in the trees. Extremely well run, good food, and ecologically conscious. Highly recommend
- Michael (10/5): we recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Palenque. lovely location near the ruins. great room. excellent food. courteo - spacious, private rooms in a stunning location really nothing. our favorite hotel for the entire trip.
- Anouk (4/5): Disappointing - The location was unique - you feel like you are in the middle of the jungle, which was a nice experience. Facilities were nice, but we felt not as superb as advertised in previous reviews. BED BUGS. After a few nights, we were suddenly covered in bites, which to us were unmistakably by bed bugs. You saw the traces in the mattress. When we kindly alerted the staff about this issue, someone quite brusquely visited our room, saying that they had special mattress covers that would make bed bugs impossible. After some discussion, they offered to wash our clothes and we changed rooms, which was really nice, but that night, other people checked into our first room and slept there.
Also, the food in the restaurant was fine to us, but price-value is not great. By far the most expensive dining experience in Mexico, with small portions.
- Nusa (9/5): Lovely place - Clean, comfortable and lots of wildlife. We saw howler monkeys in the morning. I wish a strong cappuccino was included in the breakfast
- Sandeep K (10/5): - Lovely hotel and restaurant in a natural setting 5 minutes outside of Palenque - 30 minute drive to Misol-Ha
- Marco (9/5): Superb -
- Christiane (10/5): Exceptional - The accomodation is located a bit outside of palenque but the huts are beautifully build into the hillside jungle.
It is a great place to relax and regain some energy besides visiting the palenque maya ruins.
The restaurant serves great food and staff is very friendly and makes you feel at home.
- Sophie (10/5): I highly recommend staying here! - The location was beautiful and secluded in wonderful nature. The rooms were lovely and very clean. The staff is very helpful and the natural pool is fantastic. nothing!
- Olivier (10/5): Quiet and confortable place not too far from the historical center - Quiet, confortable, very good bed and very Helpfull and friendly people working there. You are very close to the center with à car and you are also near thé nature Somme trouble with the hot water in the shower but may be I did not understand how it works.
- Dirk (10/5): An amazing stay - Winika is located outside Palenque. The location is on the top of a hill and in the middle of the jungle. Waking up in the morning with the sound of Howler monkeys is amazing. The best thing about Winika is not the amazing location, not the great food served, not the spotless cabins but the people that work there.
Helene (Manager) and here team make it happen. We thank her and team for making this trip a very special one Actually nothing all was perfectly organized. This also applies for the 5 trips organized by Winika during our stay.
- Nicoletta (10/5): Exceptional - bungalows are great, swimming pool concept very interesting. top restaurant. few vegetarian options
- Alejandra (10/5): can’t wait to go back. - Family owned and feels like home in nature We enjoyed everything!
- Gerald (10/5): Gotta be there to know how amazing the hotel estate is to stay - Here are the highlights:
- Great location with views of the forest.
- Layout of the hotel is peaceful and fits with the hill it is on.
- Lot's of hiking
- The pool? So much to say. Best if you go take a dip and tell me.
- FOOD!!!! Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner; great cooks, fresh as you can get. Good wine list.
- Quality Cabins
- Only 14 cabins - feels like your own private estate
- Service - five star nothing
- Leah (10/5): - Beautiful property with great staff and great food (all grown/raised on-site). It's a perfect home base for exploring Chiapas and the Palenque area. Would highly recommend.
- Remco (9/5): hidden gem!!! - wauw 🤩! beautiful location, really nice clean and comfy cabins. The place is gem for nature lovers. they have a natural pool which also invites birds to take a dip! The little critters/ frogs will keep the kids entertained for hours. We watched a beautiful big heron spending hours around the natural pool and the vegetation looking for a snack. while the howler monkeys give the finishing toch with there presence in the distance! we even saw a few Alting around the premises.
it’s family run, really friendly and helpfull people. everything was perfect!
- VICTOR OSWALDO (10/5): PERFECTO... - TODO ESTUVO EXCEPCIONAL. ABSOLUTAMENTE RECOMENDABLE.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A very nice hotel with an excellent restaurant. The internet service was surprisingly quick and the staff were helpful. Recommended
Felicidades!!!!
- PatricioA (10/5): - Love it. Very quiet. Incredible view. Just perfect to relax
- Claudia (10/5): - Me encanto súper recomendado: excelente servicio y lugsr
- Pavel (10/5): - Very nice place off the beaten path. Very friendly staff: makes everything more enjoyable. Nice small pool with eco-friendly system.
- Byron (10/5): Palenque - Great hotel for an adventurous guest. This hotel is out in the hillside. There are no TVs in the room. You are somewhat Limited to staying there to eat as it's not very convenient to be traveling back-and-forth between the hotel and the main city. The people are very nice and the food is great although the service at the restaurant is little bit slow. The people are very nice and the food is great although the service at the restaurant is little bit slow. The one downside was that was a lot of ants that came into the room. The staff was helpful but this impacted our stay.
