Guest Reviews
- Eileen (7/5): - Old charm Toilet was smelling although it was clean
- Robert (8/5): - Great location. Great staff and restaurant service and food.
- William (8/5): Great staff …spotlessly clean …v nice breakfast too - Great location just a 30 min walk along the canal path into Gloucester centre Can hear the people in the next room coughing talking etc
- George (8/5): Tiny Shower and Noisy - The building is old with lots of history and the Bar is great The smallest shower in the world. Its tiny, and the room is noisy due to the main road.
The price is too much for this room and therefore it is not a place I would return to.
- Batt (9/5): Good food and comfort - Perfect location and parking Nice staff and bar
Great food
- Robert (8/5): - Good food.
- Hayley (9/5): -
- Rob (8/5): - Good location, free parking, good breakfast with plenty of choices which was included in the price. Massive bed. Did look to book again next year but breakfast was listed as extra at £17 for beans, 1 sausage, 1 bacon, tomato, fried egg.
- Joanne (8/5): - Easy to arrange a late night check in. The self check out system wasnt that good.
- Mark (10/5): The Thatch Inn - The property was in a great location. The room was clean and tidy,
The staff we're very friendly. The breakfast was excellent. It was great value for money.
- Samantha (9/5): Lovely place to stay, great staff. - Lovely clean room, very helpful staff and a good breakfast.
- Michael (10/5): -
- Philip (4/5): -
- Bhupinder (8/5): -
- Craig (8/5): -
- Kamil (9/5): - Very clean room.
- Loljax (9/5): Absolutely stay here for good food and friendly staff - The food! Aside from our breakfast this week, our food has been what can only be described as garbage. We arrived and I could smell the deliciousness straight away. I have dysphagia, and I struggle to swallow, but subbing chips for truffle mash was no problem. Fish, truffle mash is quite literally the best way to eat a fish supper. Seriously. Try it. Breakfast was amazing too. Im a happy girl. Also, to the lovely lady who waited on us at breakfast (11/05/25) my perfume wasnt by Lataffa. I took a pic of it. Please give it to her ♥️ Room was a little cold and the toilet didnt half make a racket.
- Resort823918 (8/5): Mediocre rooms, great staff - We stayed overnight for our trip to Cornwall. We booked two rooms as we had our dog, rooms were small and would be very uncomfortable in warm/hot weather. For bed and breakfast (standard) it was expensive!
The staff were lovely, very approachable, friendly and nothing was too much trouble, but management need to rethink their prices or better still try staying overnight in Room 11 for example.
- Megan (9/5): -
- Bhupinder (9/5): - All good!
- sharon (8/5): -
- Amanda (10/5): Great stay at The Thatch for 5 - The staff were fantastic. We had Honour (sounds like but not quite his name, sorry!) who looked after us in the evening and Sasha, who was hilarious at breakfast. Nothing was ever too much and their food is just amazing 😍 Nothing at all
- Karen (9/5): Very friendly and helpful staff -
- 736josieh (10/5): Very happy - my second stay and looking forward to a return, - This is my second stay at the hotel, and this was as good as my last. The staff are lovely; kind and respond immediately to any issues - I mentioned during dinner I was cold in the room. When I returned after dinner, a portable heater was waiting for me and the central heating had been put back on. The food is excellent, parking is no problem and the rooms are clean and comfortable. No problem recommending.
- Roberto (7/5): Ottimo per una notte - Parcheggio, posizione. Velocità check in, check out La pulizia non è stata il massimo.
Capelli nel letto. Macchie sulle lenzuola. Ragnatela nel bagno in posizione ben visibile.
Dotazioni di base come carta igienica e sapone ridotto all'essenziale.
- lizcH1061ZT (10/5): Our family reunion - My sisters and I live in different parts of the uk and picked this place for our reunion . The food was exceptional as well as the staff . Excellent choice Such a lovely place to meet up with each other Thank you for your hospitality
- Andrew (9/5): -
- Piero (7/5): Location di passaggio, buona soluzione per una notte. - Ottima la colazione servita al momento. Dimensioni della stanza un po piccole e bagno poco funzionale.
- Joelle39 (8/5): Very nice vintage hotel - Very nice vintage hotel outside of Gloucester city. Good food, very pleasant staff and friendly atmosphere. Maybe slightly overpriced.
- Nicholls (8/5): Good place to stay. - Great staff. Good value for money. Nothing not to like. Rooms small but very clean amd tidy. Bar and garden lovely in summer sun.
- RONALD (8/5): - Place was very nice. Staff pleasant and friendly. Too many emails. Daily requests for feedback and confirming bookings.
- Brian (10/5): cant wait to come back, great food great staff, - breakfast was included but i had to pay , dinner was a amzing room was a little small for what i needed but love your inn will come again
- fiona (9/5): -
- NikkiH61 (10/5): A little gem - We needed an overnight stay for a visit to Gloucester and found this little gem. A lovely pub/hotel in a good location. The room was bijou but we knew that from the booking, it was perfect for our needs. It had everything you would expect, tea, coffee, towels, soap, shampoo, hairdryer even an iron. It was absolutely spotless. We ate in the pub that evening. The food was delicious, good pub grub and the service was warm and friendly.
Overall a lovely stay, would definitely use again.
- Jeanette (8/5): - Beautiful bar and helpful staff.
Nice and clean , good for a night The bed was uncomfortable
- Thomas (9/5): -
- Fiona (10/5): - Great service, excellent restaurant and comfy clean room
- Daniel (8/5): Convenient for city. Friendly. - Parking. Friendly staff. Ease of catching a bus into city centre. Good restaurant. Room rather small
- Kathleen (8/5): - Lovely venue, great friendly staff Bed wasn't very comfortable
Toilet in a very tight space, awkward to use and shower had pretty much no power
- stuart6565 (2/5): Very short-staffed, and noisy room - I knew it would be a small room, fortunately I was on the first floor so there was no noise from above. But I didn't realise the walls would be so thin. I could hear the people next door talking (even when they just were having normal conversations, not shouting or anything like that), the noise of TVs from theirs and other rooms, plus lots of noises from bathrooms in other rooms, water going through pipes, etc.
But what really spoilt my stay was the breakfast, where there was only one poor staff member responsible for taking orders, serving food, topping up drink supplies and the buffet, clearing tables and dealing with any other queries. She was very patient and unbelievably hard working, but everything was running slow, lots of things kept running out, and watching how overworked she was (while two other staff members just stood chatting at the bar - presumably they were managers!) left a nasty feeling about the whole experience. Fortunately I wasn't in a rush so the 30 minute wait for my hot breakfast, then waiting for other things (e.g. butter and coffee ran out) didn't really matter this time. But they really do need to employ more staff. At £17 a pop for cooked breakfast they ought to be able to afford it.
It feels very much like the pub/restaurant is far more important to the owners than the hotel business. I guess it's mainly the hotel guests who have breakfast, so perhaps they don't matter. Check-in and check-out are both via a touchscreen, so it's all pretty impersonal and the staff can focus on the pub and don't need to waste their time on nuisance hotel guests.
- colettek130 (10/5): Very impressed with everything. Lovely place. - Just got back from a one night stay at this lovely hotel. Friendly staff who helped make our stay easier. Room was really clean. Had the best nights sleep I’ve had for a long time. We had a fabulous meal in the restaurant, ultra tasty. Breakfast was great too, cooked perfectly with no greasiness.
We will definitely be back here soon.
- Gary (8/5): Lunch asisde suited our requirements for a family gathering - Clean tidy rooms, nice bar restaurant and breakfast was great, On arrival approx 2:30 dissapointed to find we could get food as kitchen closed until 5pm, BARMAN quite kurt in telling us and offered no alternative, luckily a customer sat at the bar gave us some local insight and options
- Scott (8/5): -
- Django4955 (10/5): Relaxing Break - Spent a lovely overnight stay at the Thatch Inn. Good food, comfortable bed, nice room and friendly staff - what more could we ask for. We visited Burton-on-the-Water (a lovely village) then travelled to the Inn and, after checking-in, had a cream tea that set us up until our evening meal. Plenty of choice on the menu and the food was very good. Breakfast in the morning was excellent. Following check-out, we visited Westbury Court Garden in Gloucestershire - a National Trust restored Dutch-style water garden. Then homeward, only stopping for shopping. All in all, a very relaxing short break. Thank you Thatch Inn staff for your friendly service.
- Sanal Kumar (8/5): -
- dawnmunn66 (8/5): Lovely Pub With Overnight Stay. - Greeted warmly and SUPER impressed by the character of the building! Room number 2 was immaculately presented with tea, coffee, biscuits along with toiletries.
A bus stop outside to get you to Gloucester City & The Docks, bus numbers 12 & 65 will take you there within 10 minutes and definitely worth a visit! The cathedral especially is simply stunning!
Evening meal was sufficient but the overall presentation needs some work. Service was superb, we had the Prawn Cocktail starters along with the Calamari.. pics attached. Mains, Chicken Salad, Shoestring Fries, Pie & Chips, a bottle of NZ Sav Blanc, service charge added at 12.5%, we had a £25 credit each as we’d booked through TravelZoo, tbh we paid an extra £48 on top of our £50 credit which for the quality of the food was expensive. Chef needs some training on getting this addressed, photos attached. Breakfast was good, again too much Avocado and presentation not great!
On the whole though a fab place to stay, great staff and would come back! Just would go elsewhere for dinner 🙏
- francisd324 (10/5): Highly Enjoyable stay at this Wonderful Relaxing Inn - We stayed 2 nights mid-week at this wonderful hotel Inn, located well for our trips to Gloucester Cathedral and Tewkesbury Abbey. The room was very clean and appointed. We enjoyed a delicious dinner there and a huge breakfast menu each morning. The best part of our stay were the friendly and efficient staff.
Hope to go back there later this year.
- Daniel (9/5): Very pleasant - Very helpful staff Nothing
- UkDev (2/5): Left after one night, very disappointed - My husband and I stayed here as part of a travelzoo deal for my birthday. On arrival, as we pulled into the carpark, we were greeted by a huge black trap covering the side of the building and the outside of the building looked very tired. We had dinner in the restaurant on the first night which was ok and the young staff were very friendly and helpful.
Our room was rather small and very hot but the bed was comfortable. Unfortunately, we didn’t get any sleep as there were doors banging on every side of the room all night plus noise from the carpark right outside the window. The en suite bathroom smelt very sewage like. We were supposed to stay for two nights before another hotel stay as part of our mini break but we felt so exhausted after this experience, we left before breakfast after the first night and headed 2 hours back home and had to cancel the rest of our trip. We did email the manager about our experience but they never responded. This hotel seems to be more for a builder/ contractor stopover than a nice place to stay.
- U9254KVcatherinew (10/5): Great service & breakfast - Really impressed with the cleanliness and quality of breakfast.
Friendly, welcoming service. Enjoyed our stay
- Explorer635587 (10/5): Great place! - What a great find. Lovely stay here for one night with my sister. Room a bit plain, but spotlessly clean & very comfortable. Slept really well. Food was fantastic, lunch on arrival, dinner & breakfast. Couldn’t fault any ot it. Staff were so pleasant and helpful. All in all a fab stay!
- Carr (4/5): - Did not like the look did not stay
Went to another hotel
- Rachel (7/5): -
- Lorraine (10/5): Perfect - Room very comfortable and clean, breakfast cooked to order and dinner was delicious served in an lovely homely atmosphere by lovely staff. Can't think of anything
- Poli (10/5): -
- 669bonniep (10/5): Great value, amazing food, too. - Great hotel good was excellent.Room was comfortable a quiet a restful night. The staff were friendly informative and provided great service too would recommend to family and friends.
- Ennovymead (10/5): Great short break - Had a really lovely stay
Room spacious bathroom excellent
All staff helpful and friendly
Food was amazing we enjoyed our stay immensely and would happily recommend
- jkP155ES (10/5): Super place to stay - Warm welcome from friendly staff. Room clean and well appointed. Breakfast was amazing such a huge choice and freshly cooked not from a hot plate . Nice atmosphere in the bar for a cosy evening. Can’t recommend highly enough.
- juliehV1871ED (10/5): Great place - Lovely clean, tidy rooms. Food was great.
Staff was amazing.
Will definitely stay there again
- 647Chris (8/5): Good hotel and pub close to Gloucester - A warm and comfortable small hotel and pub. We visited on an extremely good value deal but would also go back at a more normal rate. The rooms are modern, very clean and well appointed. The food in the bar restaurant (dinner and breakfast) is good and fairly reasonable value, with helpful staff and well spaced tables.
Location is good for visiting Gloucester, especially by car but there is a bus stop nearby to the centre. Ample parking. Also a good location for an overnight stop on a longer journey as not far from the M5. But note dinner stops ate 9pm .
The only reason it lost one star from us is that the rooms are very small and the photos on the website misleading. The photo of a 'small double, shows sufficient room on each side of the bed for a table. We were booked to a, more expensive. 'standard double' and only a fairly thin person shuffling sideways could make it down one side of the bed. Only room for 1 chair. Fine for a single occupant or an overnight stay, but too cramped for a longer visit.
- Hebbie67 (8/5): Great value overnight stay - Stayed on a Friday night on the Travelzoo offer, which was great value. However, we paid £20 to upgrade to a 'Larger room' and this description is misleading! The bed was indeed larger, and comfortable, but the room was small - we had to move the dressing table in front of the main door at night, for fear of crashing into it during any night-time middle-age loo trips!
We missed the cream tea due to spending more time at Gloucester cathedral than planned (a real gem and recommend doing the tours). It would have been good to have some form of advance comms regarding the timing of the cream tea from either Travelzoo or the Thatch Inn themselves, especially given that the hotel was not even a quarter full that night, yet we still had to book a time slot for Dinner and Breakfast!
Otherwise, the atmosphere in the bar/restaurant was very cosy, the food was really lovely and the staff are friendly, polite and a real asset. Plenty of free parking too. Would stay again, but wouldn't waste money on the upgrade. Oh, and be sure to read the hotel room notices - very refreshing and entertaining!!
- 143pate (10/5): Thatch inn stay - Everything about our visit was perfect we went on a Travelzoo offer and were welcomed with a cream tea on arrival. The staff were very friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for us. The room eas modern and clean and the food excellent
- Glor12345 (10/5): Lovely stay and meal - A very nice stay at The Thatch inn.
Welcome and good service. Food was excellent from the cream tea on arrival, Dinner and a wonderful breakfast. So much choice and nicely presented. Very good value and enjoyable. It was very busy when we stayed.
Rooms clean and warm.
Thank you

- StephanieP484 (10/5): Thank you - amazing hospitality! - This was our second stay here and we absolutely loved it! It was my 50th birthday so I wanted it to be special- and it really was! The bar manager (I think he is - he wears a cool waistcoat and has cool hair lol) remembered us from our previous visit and was so kind and welcoming. He is a major asset to the business for sure. The while staff team is great- nothing is too much trouble and we felt so well looked after. It doesn’t feel at all corporate but you can still tell that the business has really high standards and attention to detail. The food and wine were excellent as was the delicious and generous breakfast. I honestly cannot fault The Thatch Inn. We travel the country on our narrowboat so we’re not always in the area, but when we are we will definitely book another stay. It’s good value for money (especially if you book directly via their website) and the rooms, food and staff are just brilliant. Thank you from me and my husband for making my 50th birthday so special- I will never forget it.
- 615ethelh (10/5): Brilliant, peaceful stay - Thank you for a brilliant stay, staff are so friendly and nothing was a bother, room was clean and warm. Food excellent as was the atmosphere. Third time we have stayed here, definitely be back. Many thanks!
- elonwyw (10/5): An excellent overnight stay - top nothch! - Staff were excellent - friendly, courteous, attentive and hard working - nothing was too much trouble. The food (evening and breakfast) is with the best I've had in any hotel - the breakfast was served hot, first class. The bar / dining area had a lively atmosphere but not loud and the bed and and bedroom were very comfortable. I would recommend the Thatch Inn to everyone.
- Valerie (8/5): Short weekend away - Full of character n history Self check in, problematic at best as screen doesn't always work
- Stephen (4/5): Noisy if I would have known about a quiet room i would have asked - Bedroom was OK Bed was hard and noise from car park and the bar was noisy that it woke me up and television was stuck on one channel.
- HelenJFTravel (10/5): A lovely stay in a beautiful place - We stayed on Friday night and had a really lovely time! We booked a deal that included a cream tea on arrival (Freshly cooked scone - delicious!) then dinner credit, bed and breakfast. What we received was excellent and incredibly good value!
I'm not a big fan of self check in, however it was quite straightforward and there were people working in the bar who we could have asked for help, if we had needed it. When we went through to the bar we received a lovely friendly welcome.
Our room was nice, clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. However for me it was the bar and food that made this stay special. It was a lovely place to sit and enjoy our food and drink. The menu choice was excellent, the service fantastic and the food was delicious.
It took us 9 minutes to get from this hotel to where we were visiting in the city centre on Saturday morning, so I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is visiting Gloucester. I would definitely stay there again. We loved it!
- roseskidderminster (10/5): excellent - Excellent overnight stay for my Wife's birthday.
On Travelzoo deal . Great value
Cosy clean room
Lovely Cream Tea & Very nice Dinner.
Wonderful staff being friendly, helpful & efficient.
Thanks to all at Thatch for an enjoyable stay.
- Caroline (7/5): Ticked all the boxes for our short stay - comfortable, clean and friendly staff - Ticked all the boxes for our short stay - comfortable, clean and close to where we wanted to be for our function we were attending.
- Francesca (10/5): Really lovely clean comfortable place to stay and a lovely looking pub too . - Breakfast was lovely ,included in the price of the room which was well priced . There wasn't anything we didn't like .
- Craig (7/5): -
- Ian (9/5): Would recommend for holiday makers or business trips - Modern clean and comfortable bedrooms. Facilities in room excellent, hotel and health &safety notices were very amusing better than any accommodation I've stayed in before. Would have loved to have dined in the restaurant but we were tired and asleep in the comfy bed by 8pm!! Minor issue with the shower head not staying in position. But it still was a lovely hot shower with plenty of room
- Keith (9/5): - Superb bar & restaurant, lovely staff.
Clean comfortable room Only minor criticism was shower attachment was broken so could not direct shower head.
- Evenhome (10/5): Really good - We were on a Travelzoo deal which was excellent value for money. Our room was quite small but we had everything we needed. Staff efficient and friendly. Food at breakfast
and evening meal very good. Would recommend . Handy location for Gloucester.
- IAIN (10/5): Excellent stay. All staff are a credit to The Thatch Inn. - Breakfast was excellent, hardly any waiting time.Greeted by helpful professional staff.
- X1665CMbrianr (10/5): Enjoyable one night stay - Just returned from a one night stay at The Thatch.
We thoroughly enjoyed our short break.
The outstanding feature of this hotel are the staff-every member of the team genuinely seemed pleased to welcome us!
The other great thing was the food-best food we have enjoyed in a long time.
Our room was a bit cosy but for what we had paid it was great value.
We still had everything we needed in the accommodation and the decor and cleanliness was excellent.
Thank you
- Marshall (9/5): - Warm pub and welcome good food and beer No problems all good
- awynn339 (4/5): Disappointing - Big family celebration 4 days before Christmas. Not much festive spirit - no Christmas crackers/candles/serviettes - any special welcome or nice touches were non existent. Prawn cocktail had about 5 tiny prawns in it - rest of food very average. Bar closed at 9.45pm - couldn’t get a drink even though we were residents. On the whole disappointing & not good value.
- alysonclare (10/5): A good stop - Lovely break. Spotless, comfortable room. Very nice staff. Excellent dinner. Overall I can highly recommend this very nice restaurant and hotel, except a couple of things. Please don't ration the portion of peas! It was minuscule. And my husband was a bit surprised to be refused a second egg at breakfast! Secondly, you need a dedicated landline into the pub. There were a couple of things I wanted to discuss before booking but everything passes through central reservations, which was often closed. That was very frustrating. Other than that, a great stay and would stay again.
- ElaineExcell (10/5): Great value for money - We had a wonderful overnight stay on our way to Cornwall. A really warm welcome clean comfortable room and a great dinner in the restaurant. Breakfast was exceptional and value for money is incredible. We will definitely stay again.
- 706linc (6/5): Great value shame about the food - Beautiful quirky place, rooms very clean but small. Only spoiled by very poor dinner- burger was dreadful but the chips exceptionally good. Breakfast mean - ordered poached eggs on toast with bacon and sausages, got one of each and were told to make our own toast! Asked for an extra sausage for our very well behaved dog and were refused on the grounds we shouldn't be feeding him! Fair enough but 10 mins later we were offered one if we paid £3!! (He had mine!!) It was Xmas eve morning - merry Xmas chef!!! Waitress was apologetic!
- Nicola (7/5): Good location but wouldn’t stay again - Staff and room decor Food overpriced and small portions and overcooked. Breakfast finished at 9.30am on a Sunday which seemed a little unreasonable.
- Poli (10/5): -
- neosnews (10/5): Christmas get together - A group of eight friends visited recently for a get together. The welcome was warm and check in very efficient. The room was warm , cosy . Tea coffee and biscuits were a pleasant touch.
The food was excellent.
On arrival there were warm, freshly made scones and tea or coffee.
Evening meal was excellent and the choice of dinner menu excellent.
The standard was high and breakfast didn’t disappoint. Lots of choices and well cooked.
All in all fantastic value and a great place for a visit
- mikeyb114 (10/5): Thatch Inn - Really good, very welcoming, couldn’t do enough for us, one night stay with cream tea, dinner, bed and breakfast. Good deal found on Travelzoo all of the above for £85, small but perfectly formed double room
- nickbW65MD (10/5): Changed for the better, really impressed - Used to go here for lunch when in Gloucester as it is a lovely period building with a lovely atmosphere. I returned today after 5 years for a lunchtime drink and snack and I was gobsmacked at the changes they've made. It is so much roomier than before when it was small and cosy but in need of some tlc. They certainly did a great job and the main lounge is super as is the smaller room which used to be the bar. I didnt stay in the hotel but from what I saw in the dining area and photos, I'm sure its just as good. The manager was friendly and the staff efficient. Food was cooked to order, took about 20 mins but that's a good thing. We both had the beef baguette and the chips were superb, crispy outside and fluffy inside. Highly recommended. Will be going back soon.
- paulinesP9561BA (10/5): Christmas in Gloucester - We were a group of five friends who stayed for two nights at The Thatch Inn recently. We had a wonderful experience, which began immediately we entered the Inn. We were made very welcome by a member of your team and this level of friendliness and helpfulness continued throughout our stay by all the staff. They were all very professional. The rooms were delightful and comfortable. The breakfasts were superb. The restaurant food was first class and the atmosphere was warm and fun. We hope to visit again. Thank you all. Martyn, Pauline, Sal, Chris and Thelma.
- Emma (10/5): - great staff, lovely setting, food was a very good standard and choice. Rooms quiet and comfortable It was great nothing to dislike
- Guest (10/5): Would definitely stay there again. - Very comfortable and clean hotel Nothing
- richard (9/5): Small & bijou 🙄 - Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable bed. Very hot water (for all you wet shavers). Beautiful meal in the restaurant A minor point - we booked the small double room and it was exactly that. If you are of the 'large' variety this is NOT the room for you.
The heated towel rail (which get very hot) is right by the toilet, so make sure your towels are on the rail before positioning yourself on the throne!
There's no blind in the bathroom and even the the window is obscured...it doesn't leave much to the imagination if your sat in the carpark!

- Christine (8/5): - The food was very good, staff very pleasant One of the mattresses in Room 18 was very uncomfortable as it had a huge ridge in it. Staff informed who was very apologetic and agreed it wasn’t up to there standard and would pass it on.

- S2289SRchrisd (8/5): Friendly hosts and staff, good food and pleasant vibe. - Booked one night at The Thatch via a TravelZoo offer. Staff and hosts were very friendly, evening meal and breakfast were very good. Room satisfactory - via a linked modern block. Room temperature was hotter than Hell on arrival so had to manually switch off the radiators and open windows. Welcoming Cream Tea on arrival was a nice touch, plus a generous evening meal allowance. The hotel kindly allowed us to leave our car in their car park after checking out so we could use the bus stop opposite to travel into Gloucester - free using our Somerset Bus Passes! Gloucester is often overlooked for Bath, Cheltenham or Cirencester, but has a lot to offer and The Thatch is a great base to explore the surroundings.
- neilsU1365GC (10/5): Relaxing stay - Thoroughly relaxing stay. Just what you need before the bedlam of Christmas. The beds are really comfortable and the breakfasts are amazing. A very special shout out to the staff especially Sasha, she was a star, nothing was too much trouble, thanks again for a great weekend stay.
