The Pelican Larry Hostel opened in 2008 and is located in Granada, one of the best and safest neighborhood of Cali, perfect location for visitors with walking distance from the City Bus Terminal, MIO Bus Station, Chipichape Mall, the downtown, many restaurants and bars area, clubs, supermarkets and more!
We have a dance school, Fiesta Caleña Dance School, which offers classes in linear salsa, caleña, salsa on 1, bachata, chachachá, merengue, among others; We have bilingual professional dancers with extensive experience, focused on effective and fun learning, in a short time for our travelers.

The 2 girls that were mainly on were amazing and very helpful. The place is quite run down and needs a bit work just some paint and maybe do up the bar and actually use it. The kitchen was alright but also quite run down it has everything you need though. Also a weird forced threesome vibe there with posters of that in every bathroom haha

- MATIAS (10/5): Perfecto para descansar y conocer Cali! - Estadía perfecta. Las habitaciones son amplias. La cama muy cómoda y con cortinas. La zona común es agradable. La cocina es bastante grande. Cuentan con Te y Cafe de cortesía para cualquier momento del día. La reserva incluia el parking para la moto! El personal muy amable. El Wifi no funcionaba bien en la habitación, la señal era algo deficiente y se cortaba.

- Marisa (1/5): Pessimo, não recomendo pra ninguém. Tem muitas opções perto melhores e mais econômicas. - Nada. O quarto estava cheio de bolor e infiltrações. Paguei a mais para ter um banheiro privado com ducha quente e a água quente não estava funcionando. Não me ofereceram alternativas e tampouco quiseram me reembolsar do pagamento a mais pela ducha quente que eu NÃO usufruí. A internet é bem lenta e o proprietário é um grosso.

Te hacen una explicación y te entregan algunos folletos de los city tours, el aseo espectacular. Lo único negativo es que reciben pagos sólo en efectivo. No reciben pago con tarjeta.

- Bettina (1/5): Si la saleté et l'ambiance décadente ne vous gênent pas, le lieu peut vous convenir. - Pas grand chose, je pourrai dire que j'apprécie avoir une table et une lampe de nuit, mais parfois l'ambiance générale et l'amabilité du personnel peuvent combler les lacunes et m'amener à donner une note élevée. C'est ici le contraire, outre le fait que le lieu est basique, que le prix payé est élevé pour une pauvre qualité, les relations ont été au minimum froides avec les réceptionnistes, penchés à tout moment sur les smartphones et exécrables avec avec la femme chargée du petit dejeuner. A presque 30€/nuit pour 1 seule personne on a bien mieux, et pour que se soit mieux il en faut pas beaucoup C'est sans doute une erreur de ma part de l'avoir choisi et d'y être restée 3 nuits. Le lieu est un ancien pavillon dont la décadence est due à une manque d'entretien et de gestion. On dirait un squat, tout est sale, cassé, tant dans les parties communes que dans la chambre avec salle de bain privée. Minimalisme extrême dans la chambre, pas de penderies ou chaise pour poser les affaires, il y avait certes un hamac mais aussi sale et puant la sueur comme les coussins, draps et oreillers. On passe vite fait un torchon sale au sol, mais cheveux, poils et poussière s'accumulent. Dans la cuisine commune il y a que de la vaisselle ébréchée ou alors en plastique. Le petit déjeuner inclus est officiellement servi de 7h30 a 9h. Le pemier matin, après une longue insomnie due à l'inconfort du matelas, je suis descendue à 9h00 et la jeune femme sans meme me saluer, m'a dit d'un ton seche "on arrête de servir le petit déjeuner à 9h00 pile". Le lendemain à 8h10 le café n'était toujours pas prêt et le petit-déjeuner n'a ete prêt qu'à 8h20, sans aucune excuse. Ni bonjour, le seul mot prononcé état "après vous lavez votre assiette". Ce matin elle nous a servi le reste des fruits d'hier : 4 rondelles de banane et 4 petits morceaux d'ananas avec des œufs brouillés et 2 tranches de pain industriel. Le café est plutôt un jus de chaussette, il y a de l'eau chaude pour le thé mais pas du thé, ni du lait. A noter que la chambre où j'étais est au-dessus de l'endroit ou est posée la machine à laver, très bruyante, qui a tourné jusqu'à 22h et hier matin a été mis en route à partir de 6h. Non seulement il n'y a absolument aucune animation, mais le peu de gens qui y séjournent sont plutôt taiseux, à commencer par les "volontaires" qui semblent être les residents les plus nombreux. Pero obvio le agregaría que limpien desde más temprano y no a la hora pico que todos van a desayunar o al baño, y que agreguen más amenities como shampoo o acondicionador, o trapos de cocina para secar, o toallas para secar las manos en los baños, etc. Además no hay microondas o pava eléctrica, son cosas básicas que se necesitan y por el precio que pagamos creo que lo podrían agregar.

- Pablo (1/5): TE CAMBIAN EL PRECIO DURANTE LA ESTADÍA.. - Está bien ubicado, podía guardar mi moto pero la atención que recibí fue de las peores en 8 meses viajando en Sudamérica! Tuve un problema con el recepcionista Ancizar durante mi estadía. Después de 5 días en el hostel y avisar que extendía mi estadía , me dice que mi cama estaba reservada, lo cual si había otra cama no era un problema. En ese momento me pide que cancele las noches que había estado y me dice que como me cambio de cama el precio era otro a lo cual yo le comento que en booking el precio era el que me estaba cobrando hasta ese momento y le comento que prefiero reservar por booking por qué me da beneficios. Cuando intento hacer la reserva 1 minuto CASUALIDAD, todas las camas a ese precio que había disponibles ya no estaban y el nuevo precio era muchísimo más caro.. CLARAMENTE el en ese momento cambió la disponibilidad y/o modificó el precio lo cual educadamente le dije que eso era de muy mal gusto pero lo peor es que se enojó por mi comentario y me pidió que dejara el hostel.. NUNCA me había pasado algo así.. realmente un maleducado, así que si van a ese hostel, tengan cuidado por qué te cambian los precios !!

L’ambiance est super conviviale, tout est propre et bien organisé, et le personnel est vraiment accueillant et toujours prêt à aider. Les espaces communs sont agréables, les lits confortables et l’emplacement parfait pour découvrir la ville. Je recommande vivement et j’y retournerai avec plaisir !

- Tom (2/5): The worst hostel experience I've had so far. Will not be returning. - The owner was friendly I paid for this hostel to be able to sleep, which i couldn't... They were drilling super loud into concrete consistently from 8:30am to the afternoon inside the hostel for 3 days consecutively. If you need to do that much work close the hostel for a refurb. Also we had to wait over 2 hours to get a shower 2 days consecutively due to the water being off. When you did shower the hot water was constantly on and off and the shower trays would fill up due to not draining properly. Photos are misleading, i didnt see a pool table or any salsa lessons, looks vibey and it was dead. I will not be returning.

- Laura (1/5): HORRIBLE LA EXPERIENCIA - Toda la estadia tuvieron reformas que nunca comunicaron, cortaron el agua y ni una palabra a los huspedes y el ruido de taladros fue continuo y todo sin avisar nada, el baño compartido de mi piso estaba lleno de obreros y los otros no tenian agua ... Un arreglo de estos es algo que se debe informar por qué fueron 12 dias tortuosos. Estuve hace un año y era ok... Pero volver y ver qué pequeños detalles como visagras malas en el baño o espacios con problemas de humedad u otros en vez de mejorar empeoraron fue decepcionante. La señora que hace los desayunos es súper grosera, salimos temprano un día porque necesitábamos comprar un par de cosas para el trabajo y justo ese día se callo la red del banco y todo se nos complico... Llegamos a las 9:01 am y le explicamos la situación a la señora para ver si podíamos tomar el desayuno y casi nos pega... Que lo hacía pero nos los cobraba.... El primer día que desayunamos fui a dejar el plato en la cocina y me fue hablando feo así como "oiga ese plato lo lava usted" en un tono súper maluco como si uno llegara entendido de que el desayuno incluído no incluye la lavada del plato.... Los baños están super sucios, y no por las obras, el espacio para poner el había estaba negro y baboso del fisico mugre... La ducha no evacua el agua y se riega y siempre esta mojado .... Todo mal desde que vas a un sitio a trabajar y solo necesitas bañarte con dignidad, comer con dignidad y tener un descanso tranquilo y nada se dió.

- Linnea (7/5): Comfortable but quite dead - It was nice to have a kitchen and laundry services, and there weren’t that many people staying so one night I had the (spacious) room to myself. There was a big closet too, so it was easy to organize my things. The staff were nice. There were barely any other travellers and virtually no one to talk to. The salsa classes had been cancelled and there were no other events. I don’t think the vibe shown in the photos matches at all how dead it was. It was also quite a long walk from pretty much anything other than restaurants; I stayed in San Antonio afterwards and much preferred it there. Also, while I was staying at the Pelican Larry, my bathing suit was stolen (it was hanging on my bed to dry).

- Imogen (8/5): Good but please sort breakfast out. - Nice social vibe without being too loud, salsa lessons offered which was cool! Room was clean and bathrooms were good. Breakfast was so chaotic. Said it’s served 7.30-9 but in reality everyone gets served at once at 9 and if you’re a minute late you have to pay. We got served quickly but there were people who had been there way before us who weren’t happy. On our second morning we wanted to leave at 8.15 and we waited 45 minutes whilst they produced the mass breakfast again so didn’t get the free breakfast despite being there within the time frame?

- Kreshna (10/5): - I really enjoyed my stay at The Pelican Larry Hostel in Cali. So much so that I extended my stay there twice, to almost three weeks. I stayed in a small private room (shared bathroom) and I found it clean, comfortable, and a great value for money. There are several things I liked: 1. The staff is dedicated, helpful, and very hospitable. The do a great job keeping the place functional and clean. 2. There is free breakfast! I particularly liked the lunch on-site: healthy meal of soup, salad, meat, rice, etc. for $3! You can also cook your own meals in the kitchen next to a nice backyard. 3. The hostel is in a nice and safe neighborhood (Granada). It is walking distance from great many restaurants, bars, clubs, and shops. 4. Cali is called the salsa capital of the world for a good reason: there are salsa clubs and classes everywhere, including at the hostel. The teachers at the hostel were excellent. 5. The staff do a great job of keeping you informed (through WhatsApp and in-person) about salsa classes, shows, events, and other things going on in Cali. 6. The atmosphere at the hostel is very convivial. You can easily mingle with locals and fellow travelers from all over the world. Great way to improve your Spanish! 7. I found the climate in Cali moderate and pleasant. Not too hot and humid. Like everywhere else in Colombia, I found the people in Cali gentle and warm. I would recommend visiting Cali and Pelican Larry is a great place to be for budget travelers!
- Keyuri (7/5): Nice place, could make some easy improvements - Good breakfast, good sized room and location close to nice bars and cafes. The double room has a big gap above the door which leads to the kitchen and common area so we could hear everything - which is fine during the day. However twice in our 4 night stay, the rules weren't adhered to and the area wasn't closed at 11pm so we could hear, laughing, talking, cleaning, loud industrial washing machines etc until way past 1am, and also see the bright light through the curtain. The gap also meant that mosquitos would come through no matter what, which was frustrating. Dorms may be better. I believe it's one of those rooms that the staff don't realise the issues as they haven't stayed there themselves.

- Emilio (8/5): Very good - Guests and staff were great. Cali is one of the more dangerous cities. This hostel is in a safer area but you'll still hear stories of people getting robbed. Don't walk around at night. Take an Uber or taxi.

- Katy (8/5): Very good - Friendly staff, overall just good vibes. Good social area - long table, hammocks and good communal kitchen. Salsa studio attached with classes and great teachers! Lack of mosquito barriers, our private room had a large 30cm gap above the door so there was no way of stopping them and also wasn't sound proof. They ask you to check in online which takes ages but they didn't even receive it so had to scan passports anyway- don't bother doing that!
