• Elizabeth (8/5): Great location. Get what you pay for. - Overall, good stay. The staff were friendly and helpful. I got what I paid for -- a small, single room, with no frills. Common bathrooms are very clean. They do a great job communicating that they are above a bar, so plan accordingly. (They also provide ear plugs.) The location is ideal, and there are plenty of parking opportunities if you need.

• Verified traveler (4/5): - Its central! A for tge accommodation its !! Dark drab entrance, extremely strong smell of fumes like petrol and paint in building! Kitchen area & esting area drab, uninviting, and smelt of old wet mops! Rooms, yuck floor, keep your shoes on, we had our own toilet & shower! Old! Aweful! Smelt! my suggestion is shut the place down,. Yes its for backpappers but don't insult them by offering disgusting accommodation like you don't care ! As for the lounge seating its dirty! Get rid of Netflix and buy some decent sofas! A little bit of comfort goes a long way when your away from home!
• Anne (10/5): Great location for Tongario Crossing - Stayed for one night to hike Tongario Crossing. Great location as bus picks you up right out front. Reception was hit or miss with friendliness, but suffice it to say everyone has a bad day. However, one of the friendly employees lent me her jacket! Facility is a bit run down and the “extended stay” guests were .... well. Overall good location for Tongario. Free parking was easy to find. Kitchen was well equipped. Standard hostel rooms/beds.

• Verified traveler (6/5): look after ya tenants pls - Would be good if you could keep the thugs out of the car park below the bedroom windows. It’s one thing hearing music from the bar below, another hearing only bass till 3am from some idiots outside with no where better to go.

Huone oli kadulle ja kuten luvattua, baarin yläpuolella. Korvatulppien avulla kuitenkin nukkui hyvin. Pieni miinus yövalon puuttumisesta, mutta muuten ei valittamista. Yleiset tilat Ok, hyvin perinteiset hostellin tilat.
• Heidi (4/5): Kulunut, nuhruinen - Erittäin kulunutta, suhkun laatat tippumassa, sängyn patjat kuopilla, tyynyt vanhoja, laitettu 2 tyynyä liinan sisään. Synkkä mustat seinät ,erittäin pieni huone. Erittäin meluinen vardinkin perjantai ja lauantai koska pub alakerrassa, seinät tärisivät basson takia!! En suosittele
• Verified traveler (6/5): - A hostel that is in need of a lot more taking care of. The staff is nice and the balcony is really nice with views to the lake. However the place is really worn, needs new carpets, beds and pillows. The kitchen is small considering how many people who could potentially be cooking and even though the staff tries to keep it clean it gets really dirty - this is on the people living there, but maybe the staff could be more harsh on people not cleaning up after themselves. So overall it was ok but with plenty of room for improvement.
• Paeng (4/5): - Only good thing staying here is its pretty much located at the heart of the city. Facilities, staff and room is ok. Downfall is loud music coming from the bar downstairs (until like 3am).

• Iris (6/5): Ok stay, but place needs updating - Good location near the i-Site Visitor Information Center in the center of Taupo, close to plenty of shops, restaurants, bars, ATMs, and a block from Lake Taupo. I stayed in a private room w/ private bath, but the room was a bit old & dirty, esp. the carpet. In any case, it was an affordable private room in Taupo and has what you need for a couple of days stay and a good base for the Tongariro Alpine crossing.

• lorraine (8/5): Excellenty priced accommodation - I recently stayed at bobs for 3 nights, I found it it always very clean except the ensuite floor just needed a little sweep in the floor! There are additional showers and toilets in the building as well. The room I had was at the back and it was weekday so I heard no noise at all from the bar! Great sleep! The bunks are a little low down if you want to sit on your bed. The outside area is very extensive and they have an amazing choice of movies for a rainy day.... or a cold night! I would stay again!

• Sandra (10/5): - Perfect location, free parking outside, easy check in. First hostel we stayed in in New Zealand and all 3 of us were surprised by a great atmosphere. Wish the bathroom had better covers on a window for privacy, otherwise a great, comfortable stay.

• cookie (6/5): a work in progress - chose hostel due to proximity to bus stop. unaware it was over a bar! "Free earplugs and wifi" also upstairs, no lift(I use a walking stick) The wifi wouldn;t load onto my android phone! went to library to do e-mail. Awfully noisy with booming music till MN.

• Miyagi (8/5): フレンドリーなスタッフのホテル - スタッフが明るく優しいホテルでした。共用キッチンやダイニングは広くて使い勝手が良かったです。ホテル近くにお店も沢山ありますし便利なところです。観光地へのアクセスもいいです。
• Verified traveler (8/5): My stay was from fri 9 feb-mon 12 feb 2018 - The staff were friendly upon check-in. I was given a bed in a 6 bed dorm room however the bed did not have a ladder so I could not get onto the top bunk, all the other 5 beds were taken. I returned to reception and I was given a new room which was much more spacious. As you enter the room there is a room with one bunk bed and then there is a further room which had 2 bunk beds. I chose the bottom bunk in the first room. There was also an ensuite toilet and shower and a sink and mirror in the first room. This was very handy and conveniently located. Please be aware it can get very loud until the early hours of 3am as there is a bar directly downstairs, however you are provided with ear plugs upon check in. Laundry is priced at washer $2 and the dryer $4. Please be advised you need one $2 coin to operate the washer and four $1 coins to operate the dryer. There is no security lockers at this hostel.

• Tame (8/5): It is what it is... - Cheap with all the basics and prime location. For what I paid, it was pretty good. The staff were friendly and the room was clean.
• Verified traveler (6/5): Great location - Great location but very noisy being over a bar. Music played until around 2.30 am. Staff were great on arrival and room was quite adequate for what I required and for price. Easy walk to ironman event and shops, restaurants etc.
• Ichiro (2/5): Exclusive hostel only for staff and white - It was reserved for a day different from the date I booked at Hotel.com. I stayed in a different room. I can not trust Hotel.com's system anymore. The place of the TV was a place only for employees. I also wanted to watch TV, but a big man glared at me with a horrible face. I gave up to watch TV and went back to the room. And I did Internet on my own. It is free Wi-Fi. Everybody is doing the Internet in the room. and a big man talks loudly so it is noisy. A free ear plug can be received at the reception. Another young white man got tongue against me just as I got in the way with the stairs I carried a big bag. I gave way to him even I brought big heavy bags . Because a white man is scared.

• KIWI PAT (2/5): "GRIM" THE WORST BACKPACKERS EVER!!!! - VERY,VERY SHABBY!!!! NOTICES EVERYWHERE SAYING UNDER MODERNISATION BUT WE DIDN'T SEE ANY!!!!! BEDDING STAINED, TOWELS WERE CHARGED FOR. HAD I SEEN THE ROOM BEFORE WE PAID THEN I WOULD HAVE LEFT IMMEDIATELY!!!! WOKEN @ 6AM BY RUBBISH BINS BEING EMPTIED.A LOT OF NOISE IN THE CORRIDORS QUITE LATE!!!
• Klara (8/5): Great - Great hostel with very friendly staff! We stayed in a private ensuite which was newly renovated and looked great and was very clean and big enough. The only issue we had was with the water temperature regulation in our ensuite shower, but they said they would look into it. The location of the hostel couldn't be better in the center of Taupo, just a minute's walk to the lake and nice restaurants. Definitely recommend staying at BoBs!

The only positive aspects were that it was 2-bed dormitory room with a good price. The room was clean enough, but the bed was creaky. The bathroom was not so convenient and cold.
• Verified traveler (6/5): Central hostel - Great central spot, but can't park car next to hostel. Very clean bathroom, bedroom and kitchen. Not much lounging facilities inside. Mattress on top of bunkbed was too thin. staff friendly and helpful.
