Guest Reviews
- NH (10/5): - It’s more for the working class people, not for tourists with family. Wifi’s not working for few months but not fixed. No milks in the fridge, amenities are not remarkable, toilets and showers are stained. No shops around
- Marko (8/5): - View
- Calvin (6/5): - Maintenance is lacking, lights did not work in bathroom or bedside table. Room was in poor condition.
- Tara (10/5): - Check in/out staff are very friendly and helpful. Sea room view is beautiful to wake up to, have your coffee and watch the sunset. Amazing at all times of the day. Highly recommend staying.
- Karola (6/5): - Property needs update bad wifi
- Frank (6/5): - Buffet was great
- Wayne (6/5): - O'k budget accommodation, could do with a scrub, motel staff very accommodating, not so much hotel staff.
- Julie (6/5): - Very loud. Not family friendly at all.
- Damian (8/5): - fair to average motel, food was great
stayed during a busy period where we were woken up every night multiple times by noisy neighbours existing the pub
seems to be no controls to keep house guests courteous
couldnt fault food or service
- Laree (4/5): - Bathroom filthy, cant park near room, no reception -have to go into crowded bar to check in, staff are not trained well
- Dominique (10/5): - Good value for money, the pub is great and the burgers are amazing. Very friendly staff. Amazing view of the bay.
- FIONA (6/5): - Had other people enter my room late at night…. Supposedly same room key!
Smelly, very unfresh smell, mattress very uncomfortable.
- Kudzai (8/5): - Great views. Cool pub. Staff were great!
- Rob (6/5): - It was good enough except for the tv reception only having 2 part time channels
- jeanette (2/5): - I have stayed at the mermaid plenty of times and been a good experience.
But this time I got a cheaper room witch was not in rentable condition it stunk realy bad mold everywhere carpet need replacing as I think that was the smell of rotting And I will not be returning
Starff were nice and cold beer .
- Chris (10/5): - Ocean views
- Vanessa (4/5): - Very uncomfortable bed. Felt every spring in the mattress. Very noisy especially cars pulling in and out on the gravel. Didn’t sleep much.
- Peter (2/5): - very outdated, dirty, old and used.
- Neville (4/5): - The room was very poor
- Lauren (8/5): - Love the pub & food was great.
Rooms are nice for the price too, but the rooms could use some new pillows as ours were very old & had to fold them in half.
Overall it was a good stay ☺️
- Henry (6/5): - The home of Red Dog. As we are travelling with a dog, we were made to feel very welcome. The pub is lively and great food.
The rooms are a bit 1960's, but clean, safe and friendly staff.
- Jeremy (8/5): - Location
- Kamran (6/5): - Small and not so clean rooms, more like a labour camp than a hotel. Good food and pub. Friendly and helpful staff.
- Fiona (6/5): - Booked a buget room ($140) for a 1 night stay. Opened the door and was met with the stench of sewerage and room was full of flys. Bathroom was dirty and didn't want to touch the bed. If I could upload photos, I would.
We decided to upgrade to a better room and they charged us another $60 on top of what we had already paid. The sea view room was at least cleaner but still not worth the $200 price tag.
The whole property needs a massive overhall.
The food was very good but hugely overpriced as they seem to cater for FIFO.
When the mining companies are paying, the price is ridiculous. This included alcohol bar prices as well.
Unfortunately, I hadn't seen previous reviews for this property. I definitely would not have booked it if I had
- ROBIN (4/5): - Cheap
- Noisey. Lack of parking. Reception staff not interested. Old. Toilet was disgusting. Not very secure rooms.
- Leanne (4/5): - Pub next door was good. The surrounds were terrible, broken glass and rubbish on footpath, very neglected. Old furniture on deck and in room. No little extras (eg nice sheets, towels, crockery, cutlery) to give value for money. Bathroom ok.
- kristina (2/5): Just Don't Go There. - The view was great, but we had to move due to the sheets not being changed between guests. It probably needed a refurbishment a decade ago. Fridge seal was broken so couldn't freeze my ice packs. No microwave, so had to throw food away. I had to put our blanket over the bed for the kids to sleep on and I waited until we got to next hotel to take a shower.
- Vicki (6/5): - Great having the kangaroos out the front of the hotel.
- Debbie (6/5): - Expectation wasn't high due to area and location of accommodation.Linen was clean, toilet was dirty - inside and out. Toiletries left on windowsill from a previous client. Pool was empty and pool area was very run down.
- Adam (4/5): - View
- Pieter (8/5): - The Mermaid is value for money accommodation in the Karratha/Dampier area
- Digby (4/5): - The rooms were very small and had very limited facilities. The kettle and mugs were old and stained. The only dining option was the pub which was reasonable. Very little else within walking distance
- Mark (8/5): - Unit was old but comfortable. Door handle need’s replacing hard to get in & out. Overall a bit expensive for what it was.
- Louise (2/5): - The property was dirty and not maintained.
- Charlie (6/5): - Old style regional hotel style service - generous sized meals, basic rooms
- John (10/5): - Great atmosphere good food clean room
- Rob (8/5): - For the price paid, was good pub accommodation. We were there for a few days and couldn’t hear the noise in our room from the pub. Meals at the pub were good. View from room was terrific, make sure u get an ocean facing room.
- Shannon (4/5): - Young man at reception was the only friendly & helpful staff member at accommodation. View from room is great. There was no hairdryer, AC was rattling all night, TV is an inconvenient location for couples laying on dble bed.
- Teresa (8/5): - Awesome service and pleasant stay. Only downfall was not enough blankets available. The blanket provided was thin and no spare in closet. Other then that would recommend and will stay again.
- Helko (10/5): - Never checked in with a mermaid before , nice sundowner from the terrace walking along the foreshore at the doorstep
- Kristine (6/5): - A little dated but clean and the hotel was a bonus
- Ann (8/5): - Modern, roomy and clean.
- Justin (4/5): - The cleanliness of the place is disgusting
The bed needs to be upgraded as well, the linen and towels are terrible as well
- Sheldi (10/5): - Wish there was more parking options for those who are staying the night.
- Candy (6/5): - Property needs upgrading
- Clayton (2/5): - Very ordinary experience. No cups or mugs in room, no teaspoons. 2 tiny little UHT milks for 2 people…🙄 Had to park on other side of building, meaning all luggage and extras had to be schlepped over to the room. No wifi, no volume on movie channel, air conditioner blows in direction away from bed. For $199 per night, you’d think some of the basic amenities could have been supplied. For this price you could get a suite at Fraser Suites in Perth. Definitely a once off. Good luck trying to find other ‘pet-friendly’ accomodation in the area though. Very disappointing and underwhelming experience.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Overpriced accommodation
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Basic accommodation with a beautiful view. Make sure to ask for an oceanview room.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The only place on town has a monopoly and the lack of competition shows. Everything was only just OK but the entire property needs an upgrade and a more stringent approach to cleanliness
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great views
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Bar and office staff very helpful and friendly but cleaning staff need to be replaced.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The cleanliness was absolutely awful. Very minimal effort was made before we arrived, and during. I don't expect it to be sparkling, but I do expect the basics! The bar staff however, were absolutely amazing. Hang onto them, they are gems!
- David (10/5): The Dampier Mermaid - best hotel in the Pilbara - The Mermaid is the only hotel in the Pilbara to have a beautiful location - something I discovered when I first stayed in 1976. Ever since, I have wanted to bring my wife to enjoy it too. This visit was part of a holiday to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary.
We had a double booking issue on check-in so ur first night was in one of the smaller rooms. Quite small and not much changed since my 1976 but very clean and functional. In response to the double booking issue, we were moved next day to the room with a view that we really wanted and treated to a great sunset-view dinner overlooking the harbour - everything that I had remembered and wanted to show my wife. This hotel is an example of how things can go wrong but an even more brilliant example of how smart ownweship/management fixes problems that make for a 5-star stay.
We thoroughly recommend the Mermaid Hotel. Yest it's 50 years old and as on of his friends remarked "a little tired like the owner" but you won't find a better place to stay in thePilbara. Great service, gread food, spotlessly clean and an exquisite view to go with it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very good and friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Cheaper booking, rooms are average, friendly staff, great food at pub.
- Tanya (10/5): - Cute little hotel attached to one of the main pubs in dampier. Quiet, with ocean views that are lovely. Very short walk to the beach
- Unknown (2/5): - Lack of cleaning is terrible & noise at night unbearable
- Verified traveler (8/5): - with a code you could not lock yourself out of your room
- David (6/5): Very tired rooms - Great location with nice views but rooms are very old and dated.
Shower could do with a good clean and was one of the few times I have worn thongs in a motel shower.
Rooms are near of the hotel/bar complex and probably suits tradies & blue collar workers rather than tourists as plenty of drinking and noise outside the rooms.
- Chris (2/5): - Dirty, dilapidated poorly run.
Reception was at 330pm...
Rooms in horrible condition
Partner and I have travelled Europe, Aisa and North America and never stayed in poor conditions.
Work Fifo and wouldn't even be impressed staying here for free!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The view from the balcony was great, room was very average but meals were great.
