- Kim (10/5): A pleasant stay - The Mermaid Inn is one of our favorite motels. The rooms are decorated with a Mermaid/nautical style with some retro appliances. Overall gives a very homey feeling. Rooms are very clean, staff is really friendly and helpful. Situated between a gas station/store and a Mexican restaurant you have access to fresh food and all the amenities you might have forgotten to pack. Like much of the Long Beach peninsula, the Mermaid is quiet and laid back...but still in walking distance to "downtown" and the beach if so inclined. You won't find a jacuzzi, gym or balcony view of the ocean here (those can be found elsewhere), but if you want clean, comfortable, convenient and quiet lodgings this is great place. A great place to explore all the cool, fun things to do in the area. Enjoy! ,

The only suggestion I would give is to leave some direction for the “Airbnb” as we weren’t sure what we should have done before leaving the home. For example, strip the beds, throw towels in the washing machine, etc.

- Steven (8/5): Perfect choice for an impromptu beach getaway - This was our 2nd stay at the Mermaid Inn. It's perfect for our travel style, having enough amenities in a convenient location at a good price. The landscaping and outside gathering area around the grill are bonuses, as is the friendly house dog. If I was to nit-pick, it would be to wish they would ditch the single use bathroom toiletries in favor of bulk dispensers for soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion to be more eco-friendly.

The room was small, and contained everything needed for a great stay. You would need to drive to go into Long Beach town - It's about a mile or so down the road. There is a cute little bar and grill right next door, as well as a Mexican restaurant. The bar and grill was great! I will stay here again without hesitation!

Not walkable to the main part of town (it's kind of a long walk but would be doable) but is a block from a street that runs down to the beach (dunes and the paved trail). Owner had good suggestions for places to eat and brochures for the area. Best thing was a non-Keurig coffee pot (less plastic waste & better coffee!). I was there a rainy weekend the end of October, so not crowded, very quiet. Nice sized refrigerator/freezer, loved the retro aqua look. Would definitely stay here again.

- James (10/5): Excellent Stay at The Mermaid Inn - This motel is operated by a couple that are a rare treat! I booked a room in the Mermaid Inn on very short notice, arrived late (after 11 PM) and I was greeted with kindness and understanding! The rooms themselves are a bit unorthodox in their layout, but in a good way. The beds were very comfortable, the decor was entertaining and contextually appropriate to the locale. The equipment such as the refrigerator, microwave, and even the brand new fans, were themed! The property itself is located in a perfect location. It's just outside of the main traffic area and next to both food and a convenience station. It's within walking distance from the Cranberry Museum and the hosts use plants for both aesthetics as well as functional reasons. For example, if the mosquito's flare up they have natural citronella plants which will provide a nice little shield within the complex. The point is, this is a great little place to just sleep, or while away the morning with a cup of coffee in front of your room at your little personal bistro. I strongly recommend The Mermaid Inn

- Christy (6/5): Mixed review - While everyone working there seemed super friendly, the owner either has something going on in their personal lives distracting them from keeping the place nice or they just don't know how to prepare accommodations for travelers. The mobile home should not be rented to people until a lot of work is done on it. Floors with areas you feel you might fall through, cobwebs INSIDE the corners of the shower, utensils were dirty, plugs are loose in the walls, it needs a lot of work. We also had a room which only one of their keys worked to actually open the door, so the lack of detail is throughout the property. Could be something special with a better attention to upkeep and some real work!

- Malinda (10/5): - For an older motel, the owners have done a fantastic job bringing this place back to life with unique charm. It is adorable and pictures do not do it justice. I chose it for the great reviews and great price and was not disappointed. There were a number of considerate touches from the well thought out coffee corner to the zero carbon footprint shampoo/conditioner and local artisan soap. Being an older hotel, there will always be some areas needing upkeep, in our room it was some dry rot in the shower but the shower was very clean. If you like minimal light while you sleep you will want to bring a sleeping mask because the blinds are not blackout blinds and there is some nighttime light infiltration. There was not much noise which surprised me due to its proximity to the highway. Owners are very helpful and pride of ownership shows in the whole experience.

- Matthew (10/5): Nice little getaway - Friendly and courteous staff, convenient location to main road and local businesses and attractions. Room was clean and well kept with comfortable beds and even extra bedding. Being single level, pet friendly and having an assigned parking spot were big pluses. Some detractors were the low shower head (I’m 6 foot and shower head was just above chest height, making it a bit awkward to wash my hair). Toilet could be a larger model, bit awkward for adults, and location of toilet paper holder almost requires contortion to reach while on the toilet. Room had a heater, which was wonderful, but would not recommend for summer because there is no a/c. Some recommendations would be larger tv, additional electrical outlets, better/more consistent Wi-Fi, and would highly encourage flyers/menus from local restaurants. There is an awesome Mexican restaurant right across parking lot (El Compadre) and we loved their food, but had to do an internet search for a menu (they were out of to-go menus). All in all, it was a very pleasant stay, would definitely stay again. The few detractors mentioned above were not enough to seriously impact our stay, aside from the sketchy internet connection.

- Meredith M (8/5): Second Time, Just as Good! - Second time staying at Mermaid Inn and enjoyed the stay very much. Second night was difficult because the folks in cabin 6, next door, left their TV on all night and it was on the wall by the adjoining door (not sound proof) so we had to listen too. Finally had to download a white noise app and leave it on all night to fall asleep. The next night's neighbors had a dog, but he was a good boi and never barked in the room. We were missed for room service one day. Hard when towels never dry and we had no spare TP. Thank goodness they came the next day! The sheets were soft and lovely, the bed comfortable (the pillows were not), and the little microwave and refrigerator were excellent. Loved the treats in the coffee bin in the bathroom. The extra rags were great for table spills. All in all, it is a great little place and we will definitely stay here again! Also, if you mention you are staying here at The Chowder Shop, you get 10% off!

The furnished patio, is in fact, two comfy chairs and a table outside the door on the walkway in front of your parking spot. The location is outside walking distance to all local activities, including most food choices. There is a Mexican restaurant next door.

- Kip (10/5): Great little place - Adorable place and the owners were extremely friendly at check in. The beds however were horribly uncomfortable. On our 3 rd night my friend mentioned how terrible they were and they went above and beyond to help us. Offered to move us to a new room that had new mattresses and eventually ended up just providing us with a mattress topper that made the night tolerable (we didn’t want to change rooms) They assured us they would be replacing those mattresses and I would absolutely stay here again.

- Verified traveler (10/5): - This was one of the best stays I’ve had. The rooms were nice they cleaned every day we stayed. The lady who checked me in gave us recommendations of places to eat. They even provided beach towels.

- Jennifer (10/5): Cute and cozy! - My friends and I were out for an overdue girl’s weekend at the beach. Mermaid Inn was an ideal place for us to stay! We had 3 of us in the group and they put us up in a room with 3 beds! The room was equipped with a nice sized fridge/freezer , microwave, TV, and coffeemaker. They offered coffee, hot chocolate, tea, and cider in the room. The service was friendly and welcoming. In the lobby they had board games and cards. Overall this was an awesome place!!
