Guest Reviews
- Yun (9/5): -
- Brendan (7/5): A good option in a remote location. - Beautiful small cabins that fit in well with the surrounding nature scape. Orientation made good use of the lovely view over Lake Wakatipu. Comfortable bed and sitting area. Clean with some thoughtful touches (e.g., insect cream in dispenser, organic teas). Cosy cafe for breakfast with nice coffee and friendly staff. Close to some great walks (e.g., Lake Sylvan) and an ideal base for tackling day walks on the Routeburn Track. Cramped and poorly designed bathroom. 'Smoked' salmon on the menu is not the same as 'tinned' salmon on toast.
- Quigley (8/5): Nearly perfect - Really lovely accommodation and fantastic location Staff seemed a bit harassed when busy which felt awkward. This brought the experience down a bit.
- Zihan (10/5): -
- Megan (8/5): -
- Rainer (9/5): Amazing placeš - Beautyfull View
Friendly service
Good food To munch electronic device in the room Eco?)
- Vanessa (9/5): - Super helpful staff and really fabulous location Issues with their new technology, meant having to spend 1 hour trying to connect and ultimately really begs the question; why have the technology option advertised?? Would recommend removing it. It spoilt our evening
- Antoinette (8/5): - Best view . Comfortable bed . Lovely friendly staff.
- Ravi (10/5): -
- Renske (10/5): Most amazing room view - Best room view we ever had, amazing! The people were also very friendly and helpfull. The room was very well equiped and we loved the screenprojector. Would definitly stay again and recommend it to everyone!
- ChrisS (8/5): Is really an eco escape :) - The view spectacular The bathroom could be bigger
with warmer
- David (10/5): - Stunning landscape for a beautiful accommodation . John and Toni take the best care to ensure that all is great. A must for anyone seeking something surreal and secluded .
- Douglas (10/5): Highly recommended - The rooms were excellent. The restaurant was outstanding.
- Alan (10/5): Highly recommend it to get away from the bustle of QT - Beautiful location..cool building, Porchia is a great host Gravel road in
- Jennifer (8/5): - I visited EcoScapes for a mini getaway. Loved the beautiful window and the views of the incredible landscapes. The food was delicious
- Liew (9/5): The view from the cabin is hard to beat. - The cabins overlooking the lake makes glamping if I may call it to another level. Could do with a little salad for breakfast.
- John (9/5): Lovely stay - Lovely location and really nicely equipped. Bed a bit narrow but this is common for New Zealand. Food in the restaurant was fantastic as was breakfast.
- Monika (10/5): - Quirky and lovely ācabinā with great view of Lake Wakatipu and good access to some nearby hikes. The cabin was beautiful and had all the bells and whistles and tech amenities you could want. Loved the idea of the full screen and TV but we couldnāt bear to bring down the shade on that great view, so decided TV was not a priority. Loved the hot tun shared only by the few cabins. Took advantage of yoga in the yurt and dinners on the property (not many other dining options nearby!)
- Hannah (10/5): Seven star - Staff and service was amazing. The cabins were beautiful, food was incredible and scenery is unbelievable. Was 4 hours away from Te Anau! We were told it was in Te Anau. Not Ecoscapes fault!
- Charles (10/5): - Wonderful people of the staff and owners, thoughtfully built and renovated buildings, delightful ācabinsā, nice walking in the area.
- Isabelle (9/5): Lovely - Friendly and welcoming staff, beautiful modern little studio in secluded setting, quiet, and dinner was really nice.
- Peter (9/5): Exceptional location and friendly staff - Location
- Thompson (10/5): An exceptional stay with magnificent views. - The modern eco style cabins were amazing how they captured the views. There was some lattice panels in front of the cabin that looked out of place and rather tacky. I donāt understand the purpose but if it was for privacy it sacrificed the outlook.
- Gerard (10/5): A rare and exceptional stay in a truely great location. - It was just excellent in all respects. None.
- Patricia (9/5): Superb -
- Meridith (10/5): Amazeballs - Location, Food, view, staff, activities Midgies - but thatās NZ
- Suzanne (9/5): Perfect location and warm and friendly -
- Ken (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing view, kind staff, and great food! Best dining in NZ! We also enjoyed the projector and the jacuzzi.

Tremendous service
The view and location
Thoughtful and effective approach to ESD
Use of local produce in thoughtful meal offerings. Nothing we can think of.
- Blackeyepea (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely gorgeous wee cabin, beautifully presented and thoughtfully designed. The staff are welcoming and helpful. The spa was ready to go š¤©
The views are spectacular š Spending only one night here; definitely recommend booking at least two nights and taking advantage of the facilities and activities available š
- Anthony (10/5): Unique - The new cabins are excellent.
The fit out and amenities are great, and the views over Dart and the Lake, to the mountains opposite are incredible.
Service was great, thanks to Em for providing an easy check-in process and Harry for creating a great dinner.
So pleased we decided to stay...and we will be back on our next visit to NZ.
- Holly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Viacheslav (10/5): Peace of mind in a great cozy house - Just as described on the website, the venue is located in a small village which can be reached by gravel road. The road itself is well-maintained and we had no trouble driving in. The house itself is not big, but it does have everything one would need, plus a great panoramic view to the lake. The breakfast is served in a little restaurant nearby and it was delicious. Nothing I would mark as something that was off or not right. It's a very peaceful place, so don't expect much entertainment going around ;)
- Jeffrey D (10/5): - Loved the room. View was incredible! Dining options limited but whatās available is good. There are a lot of sand flies in the area so be cautious of how you dress!
- Stacy (10/5): - Wonderful feel of seclusion and amazing views. The staff was amazing and made sure our stay was great. Great access to the Routeburn track.
- Ayushi (10/5): We try to book unique stays while travelling, this is the best so far.Recommend it without a doubt. - The scenery is out of the world, the accommodation in itself is pretty self sufficient with modern gadgets provided. Loved the jacuzzi and the projector for some midnight movie. Loved every thing about it. Itās bit of a drive in the remote area for Glenorchy. But did not bother us.
- Debra (9/5): Remote beauty abounds! - The quietness and natural beauty of Ecoscapes is glorious.
Breakfast was sufficient and the view from our breaky table was
Second to none! Unfortunately dinner must be ordered ahead of time and there is only 1 option. We were unsure and so opted to not order in case it was something we did not like. That evening while have a drink the dinner being served around us looked and smelt sensational. We would most certainly have paid for that dinner had we known what was being served.
- Anish (7/5): Good - Excellent location.! They can provide drinking water to the room.
- Kevin (7/5): Peaceful, scenic and relaxing. - The room setup and location in Kinloch was amazing, the service was great š. Dinner/ dinner menu!
We had asked what was the meal been served for dinner and then next up we were served duck salad, which we were not a fan of but not having any other choice we ate it but my partner didnāt eat hers.
It didnāt help us feel any better especially after paying $174 dollars ā¹ļø
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Windy (10/5): Beautiful lodge with the best view - The lodge has beautiful mountain view. The staff were friendly. We met with the owner when we were having breakfast. She is so friendly.
We only stayed for 2 nights. Wish we stayed there longer.
Breakfast was delicious. I requested a small of salad on my breakfast and the chef added in. Thank you so much , we really enjoyed our stay. I found some hair on the bed. The bathroom and the towel were clean.
- Wanda (10/5): Exceptional -
- June (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful location
Lovely staff
Driving around the area was spectacular. Nothing
- Beatrice (10/5): Exceptional - This place is obscenely pretty, the cabin is extremely cosy and the service and food were excellent, wish I couldāve stayed longer! Literally nothing.
- Natalie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Adam (9/5): Superb - Breakfast was very good. ..
- Rachael (9/5): Beautiful location, relaxing and scenic stay. Great food and really enjoyable experience. - Fantastic peaceful and scenic location and staff were all very helpful and friendly. Spa pool was great too. Sand flies!
- Lindsey (10/5): - Gorgeous stay and friendly staff. Catered to our dietary needs. Comfy bed and all the amenities you could need, plus - the view! Amazing, quiet, peaceful, lovely getaway.
- Sally (10/5): - We stayed at Ecoscapes for one night, and that was not nearly enough time. We checked in and were immediately made to feel at home. The owner made us feel special and provided us with fresh cream for our tea and coffee for the morning. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. My only regret was that we could only spend one night. Amazing!!
- Bianca (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nagarajah (9/5): Itās a brilliant place to stay with beautiful view of the mountains. - Itās a view from the cabin, friendly staff & very clean cabin. We felt hand basin in the shower room is too small. every time we used the water splashed but we understand that space is limited in the bathroom.
- Bruce (10/5): Unique location - Fantastic stay in a unique location food and accommodation top notch
- Jess (9/5): Amazing, beautiful, calm and quiet. - The breakfast was delicious and a great size. Room delivered so you can just enjoy the scenery from your room. It was also the quiet season for them as itās winter but I feel itās the best time to come as you pretty much have the place to yourself and itās so calm and quiet. Not sure!
- Bruce (10/5): All good - Food was very good Bedroom reading light needs a touch up
- David (10/5): Unforgettable - Absolutely everything. Truely mind blowing beauty, the very comfortable and gorgeous eco hut with the most astonishing view, the lovely home style meals cooked by John himself. John and Toni were very nice and helpful. This was an experience we'll never forget. Nothing. It was perfect
- Bryna (10/5): Exceptional -

Toni the host is lovely and always smiling. It was very hard to leave such a great place š Nothing
- Brock (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joe (10/5): This was a 5 Star experience; loved it! - host has done an amazing job inside and out. Really loved the historical talking points. nothing
- Diana (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was amazing
- Scott (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing views and location. Food was exceptional, staff even better! I would give a higher rating if I could! A must visit place
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional -
- Harrison (6/5): If it wasnāt for the view, I wouldnāt bother. - The view from the room was incredible. The secluded location made it ideal to get away, relax, and unwind. The accommodation was lovely and well presented, and the overall standard was good. The owner, John, was very good to deal with and was very hospitable. We were spoken to rudely and treated poorly upon our arrival by one of the staff members in the bar. He thought we were back packers staying in the closely located YHA. I was then once again spoken to rudely by the same staff member when asking for cutlery for our room. It wasnāt until he found out that I was staying in the Ecoscape Hut that he apologised. Thereās no excuse for the treatment he directed at us, or anyone else for that matter.
The fridge in the room was also extremely compact and we were unable to extend the life of some perishables we had due to lack of space.
The private spa that was advertised in the accommodation summary was inoperable, and no effort was made to rectify this. Upon arrival, we were told it had ceased operation only the day before. No compensation or refund was offered.
Our expectations were certainly higher for the price we paid.
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing views and location
- Hasan (9/5): Superb -
- Kira_maree (10/5): A worthwhile adventure down a long dirt road...... - After a LONG drive to what felt like the wilderness we approached a building that appeared to be in the middle of some renovations the wonderful EcoScapes team made us feel right at home. We were in the second of the two cottages, which unfortunately had someone's car parked directly in our view but the view was amazing. I think you'd get the perfect view in the first cottage. However that didn't stop the mountainscape being simply specactular. In fact everything was amazing. The space was beautifully designed. If you can reserve the first cabin, that is the one you want.
- Daniel (10/5): great way to finish off a week in NZ - serenity and amazing accomodation
- Kym (8/5): great for relaxing - location is great, view is as expected. the staff are helpful and welcoming. facilities is a bit old and shower head need to be cleaned.
- Anjanette (6/5): Pleasant -
- vinaya (10/5): - We had an amazing stay at Ecoscapes. Toni is extremely kind and helpful. Breakfast was delicious and very well presented. Overall its a very unique experience and is highly recommended
- Sarah (10/5): - One of the most unique places weāve experienced and stayed in NZ. Just amazing. Staff couldnāt have been nicer or more accommodating. Iām loathed to write this review as more people will then uncover this place (!) but truthfully itās next level and very cool.
- Sam (10/5): - Lovely place, friendly staff, amazing views.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We couldnāt fault ecoescapes. We had the most relaxing stay in the most devine setting and accommodation. Highly recommend for those needing to get away from the busyness of life and relax. Such a special part of the world. Thank you Toni and John for making our trip so wonderful. We will be back .
- Gerard (2/5): - We've been traveling around NZ for three months and this was among the more expensive but the worst we've encountered. It consists of two cabins which are wedged between the owner's hotel (Kinlock hotel) and their house. There is little privacy (owners can see you from a few meters away if you're on your terrace or in the jacuzzi) and no landscaping (you're between an unkempt garden and their house with personal effects such as a lawnmower, cages etc). The food was terrible (all frozen / reheated) but it's far from anything else. The
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful wee spot and great service food brought to the room and was delicious would do again
- Verified traveler (10/5): We loved it here! - Beautiful experience at Ecoscapes! We loved the tranquility of being in a slightly more isolated location (but not too difficult to get to, a quick 1.5 hour drive from Queenstown). The property is perfectly situated to enjoy views of the sunrise and sunsets. Breakfast is included and very substantial. Overall really great place to stay if you really want to get away from people! We stayed two nights, which was perfect for allowing some time to explore the hiking options nearby.
