Wahnsinnig nettes Personal, das aber nicht immer so richtig Lust hat, zu kochen – das Frühstück kann sehr gut sein, das Abendessen war enttäuschend.

Came back this year as it fitted my parameters for Ahmedabad, balcony and space. It is quietish. Good bathroom. The lack of attention to detail. It is an expensive stay , yet it provides the bare minimum. Kettle, no cups or tea/coffee etc. No fridge. Needs a good dusting, particularly the chairs in the upper library area and the electrical switches need a wipe over. Staff seem only to be around for check in/check out and breakfast. No timings are shown for breakfast hours.

• Thomas (9/5): A pleasant choice in one of the historical quarters of Ahmadabad - Staff was extremely kind and helpful, the structure in the old city centre of Ahmadabad was fascinating and charmful, the interior environment clean and providing all that is needed. Nice old fashioned atmosphere. Would surely return to stay at French Haveli if again in town.

Nous avions une nuit dans la chambre avec sdb incluse (on ne la recommande pas car la salle de bain voisine éclaire la chambre quand les occupants y vont et pas de fenetres extérieures). Nous avons préféré la chambre avec sdb privée mais séparée de la chambre, par contre elle est accessible par un escalier très raide . Ventilateur bien venu. Joli décoration intérieure. possibilité d'un repas (thali uniquement). petit déjeuner correct. Personnel sympathique La lumiere de la sdb d'à coté qui éclaire la chambre dans la chambre avec sdb incluse. Pas de terrasse exterieure
• Clare (7/5): Delightful, quirky place, slightly overpriced and needing a bit of a spruce up. - Fantastic location, in the heart of the old city of Ahmedabad, but tucked away down a car-free lane, so lovely and quiet. The whole place had a ton of quirky character. Breakfasts were delicious. We had a very comfortable stay, and loved having a huge room and private terrace. The whole place felt as though it needed a bit of a spruce up - furnishings were a bit grubby. Our aircon didn't work. Staff were lovely, but no one spoke much English, and although I speak a little Gujarati, as most of the clients are from overseas or South India, it would be good to have a more fluent English speaker around. Some of the rooms have access via extremely steep steps, more like a ladder really, which was fine for us, but differently abled travellers need to take this into account. I felt it was a little overpriced.

Interesting quirky old building Even though we are in our 70's, were put in the one bedroom whose bathroom was on a different level to the bedroom. To go to the loo, we had to climb down steep stairs and cross the reception area.

• Manish (5/5): Will be good deal with 75% fairs of the current prices - Heritage look is maintained, good behaviour of staff, my booking was upgraded by 2 levels, location was approachable, cool, peaceful stay Tariffs were high, you can get good hotels in same amount, location is approachable after 150 mtr walk, so not suitable for children and old age tourists with language. No nearby markets or eateries are there, and the hotel kitchen serves only pre-ordered food, so no sudden hunger or munching. No outside or surrounding view, even though openable terrace and atrium.
• Lina (8/5): Cozy place in historic city centre - Good place to stay if you want to explore the city centre and a good starting point for any other touristic adventures. Keep in mind that cars cannot reach directly until the hotel so you have to either walk or take a rikshaw from the main road. Hard to communicate with the staff as the english level was very low, also it was not as clean as I would have whished, a lot of dust everywhere.

• Debarshi (9/5): - It gives a real ethnic feeling. The experience was pleasant. The host was reachable and the caretaker Banshilal and his team was courteous and helpful. Limited food options. The location was not reachable by a car but that's understandable given its history.

The staff were exceptional in their attention to detail, their honest care for guests. The food was excellent. They need new towels. Maybe nicer sheets.
• Eyal (10/5): - I highly recommend this little hidden gem, right in the heart of the Old Town. I had the twin room with the most lovely balcony overlooking the street and the Jain temple. The place has a true old world charm, pretty tiles, traditional furniture etc. It is also situated in a characteristic quarter, very quiet, a rarity in Ahmedabad. In the morning you'll hear bells and chanting from the temple in front. I arrived very early in the morning after a long flight and they were very kind to give me a small room to change and with accessibility to a restroom, as the room had not been ready yet. Nothing. If you're looking for a modern experience with all services included and a contemporary finish, then this is probably not for you. Also, the steps are very steep so be mindful of that. I personally found it to be part of the charm of the place.

• Dana (7/5): Price too high - otherwise ok - The house itself is very beautiful and the surrounding is quite. The bed and linen seemed to be clean. However, the price doesn’t match what you get. Outside of the room it was quite dusty and the bathroom could have been cleaner. Usually I wouldn’t complain about the cleanliness, however considering the price I would have expected more cleanliness. On top, the staff wasn’t able to speak English, so we got no support from their side to call a taxi or to get some information about the area we are staying.

• Richard (9/5): I have stayed here a few times. Classy, stylish and fair value with helpful staff. - It’s clean and stylish and quaint. It can be a bit noisey in the surrounding area and it is a 4 minute walk from where a Tuk Tuk drops you, which is fine but you have to find it.
• ma1000 (7/5): Ein nettes Haveli mit Flair und einigen Mankos - War im February schon einmal für eine Woche dort. Hat mir grundsätzlich gefallen, das historische Gebäude mit dem entsprechenden Flair. Die Lage fand ich gut. Das Haveli ist historisch also muss man einige Abstriche machen aber das Gesamtangebot überzeugt mich immer noch. Das WLAN ist etwas besser geworden aber immer noch etwas fragil. Hatte das gleiche (große) Zimmer im 2. Stock wie im Februar, das leider immer noch das große Manko hat, dass es eine Glastür hat, wo man vom Gang aus reinschauen kann. Privatsphäre eher eine 3 minus! Wenn man das Zimmer geputzt haben will muss man es ansagen, von alleine passiert es nicht. Die Tür zum Zimmer hatte sich seit dem letzten Mal so verzogen, dass man sie zwar abschließen konnte, aber wenn man es drauf angelegt hätte, hätte man sie einfach aufdrücken können. Beim Bezahlen kamen 3 % für die Zahlung mit der Kreditkarte drauf, das wurde im Vorfeld nicht kommuniziert.
• Sachin (10/5): - The staff was extremely courteous and helpful. It's a beautiful old haveli restored beautifully - definitely exceeded my expectations and was an experience in itself. Didn't leave the hotel at all during my stay. There are also many things to visit close by - perhaps on my next visit.
• Jean (8/5): Pour l'expérience différente du lieu et emplacement. - L'expérience d'un bâtiment ancien, la localisation en retrait près du temple, le déjeuner correct. Les portes de la salle de bain extérieure (dans la réception) avec ma chambre à l'autre étage étaient digne d'un musée (d'ailleurs vu les mêmes au musée Calico). L'expérience est bonne pour une à deux nuits. Comme les fenêtres et portes ferment plus ou moins faut s'attendre à une insonorisation minime - l'impression de faire du camping dans un bâtiment de Numérobis, mais n'a pas été un gros problème pendant la nuit.

• Lucy (9/5): A beautiful old haveli in a quiet area's - This is a beautiful old haveli in a quiet neighbourhood of the old city. It has lovely furnishings and some wall paintings and antique furniture. I had my own terrace looking over to a Jain temple and other havelis which was really nice to take meals there or just relax. Lots of corners to sit or explore with interesting artworks and plenty of books. Food was tasty worth having half board there are not many restaurants nearby. The stairs are quite steep....

Sitting on the terrace, overlooking the rooftops and the temple, was brilliant. We had both upper-floor apartments. Ahmedabad was a pleasant surprise — so full recommendation!

• jean (3/5): Not a good value for entry level room - Old time charm but a bit overrated for us. One staff member (who spoke English) was friendly. Expensive for entry level price and room. Cover for comforter was dirty. Ac is right to bed so it is facing you when you sleep. Windows cannot shut well due to being old and not fixed therefore you hear everything. Bathroom exterior although indicated when booking (i did not see it). Bathroom faucet knob moves. Bathroom hard to lock. Other rooms may be better (some have patio but not all), though even more expensive.
• Sivakumar (7/5): A really different experience - The Haveli is an old traditional building in the heart of one of Ahmedabad's traditional `pols'. There are about 5 rooms and mine was on the 2nd floor with a direct view of the temple in front of the house. The room was small but clean and the area ( pol) was quite different from what i have eperienced in other cities. The neighbouring buildings are literally within touching distance of the haveli. The breakfast was fresh and appealing. No specific complaints but the fact that this is not a traditional hotel means that it comes with the expected advantages/disadvantages. Its not possible to get something to eat should you feel hungry after a delayed flight/middle of the night etc.The wi fi was a bit spotty. But, these were not dealbreakers for me,
• Stefan (8/5): Prachtige haveli op centrale locatie - Fijne centrale ligging in Ahmedabad. Het gebouw is prachtig en ademt historie. We hadden de suite en die was erg ruim, met zelfs een eigen terras. Het personeel is erg vriendelijk (al spreken ze niet altijd even goed Engels, dat is soms een uitdaging). We konden het gebouw makkelijk vinden en de taxi kon vlakbij parkeren (niet voor de deur, want de straten zijn daar ook erg smal). Het eten was te pittig voor ons, ook nadat we het aangaven. Dat was jammer, omdat er in de nabije omgeving niet echt restaurants te vinden zijn. Ook was de kamer niet zo schoon als we hoopten. Als je de bovenste kamer hebt, wees je dan ervan bewust dat de WiFi niet altijd even goed werkt.

• SUSHIL (2/5): I absolutely ran away from the property in 15 mins - The room offered was no where close to the photographs shown on booking website. The location is also not convenient. The old ancient time property. Room offered was on 2nd floor. No lift and staircase steps are very small and dangerous. Linen was not clean and of poor quality. No TV, No Hot Water Kettle, No Table and Chair in the room. The room layout is also inconvenient. No food service for last minute emergency. The numbers given on website are not reachable. Does not found the place safe, convenient and friendly. Uneducated and very less staff. Overall experience was very bad and left the property in hurry within 15 mins. from the check in.

The first floor rooms are accessed by something like a wooden ladder. The receptionist only speaks Hindi or the local language which is a problem.
• Jyoti (9/5): great though expensive with excellent location and care! - gorgeous! very well located in a quiet pol, across from a temple with wonderful energy. staff —bansi and deepak—were wonderful and took care of our every need from chai to arranging a car! the owner was also extremely accommodating over the phone. rooms are spacious and mine had a small terrace which was great. very charming property with an authentic feel in the old part of the city. steep stairs !! but i knew about that from other reviews. otherwise it was great! just quite expensive compared to everywhere else we stayed in india.
• Leonie (9/5): Hard to find but very much worth it ! Go stay here - Very cozy place with only a handful of rooms, nice inner courtyard. Convenient to get twin beds and balcony. Breakfast has a homely feel too. We had a great chat with fellow travelers who we got to know in the textile museum actually. Auto rickshaw readily available. Despite clear descriptions and directions, hard to locate as it's in the old town - autos cannot enter. But that's all the charm.

Kind and helpful staff, excellent bathroom facilities, clean bedroom, comfortable bed and complimentary breakfast was delicious. It is on the expensive side, on par with high star hotels. But then again, anywhere worth staying in Ahmedabad is overpriced. That being said, if I found myself in Ahmedabad again, I wouldn’t stay anywhere else

Breakfast is great and it’s fun to eat with other guests. For the price the amenities should be a little better. Maybe tea available, though I think if asked they would bring some. There was no toilet paper and little hot water. If it weren’t as expensive as it was those things would not have bothered me. They are trying hard. I appreciate that.

• Jennifer (9/5): A peaceful haven. - The staff were very accommodating and the location was excellent. We really loved staying in a heritage property and enjoyed being able to sit in the balcony. The simple breakfast provided was well cooked.If we were ever to return to the city we would definitely stay here again. There was a kettle in the room and so it would have been nice to have tea bags/coffee provided also.
• Ian (9/5): Superb - An oasis in the old city of Ahmedabad.. the stay was liked being in a family home in a village. Very little not to like, however bed linen could be improved.

• Melanie (10/5): Excellent. We have stayed twice this month! The haveli is beautiful and in a great location - The haveli has been beautifully restored and is in the historic old town. The staff are very welcoming.

Beautifully restored and decorated Haveli in the best location close to everything. - The Haveli is absolutely beautiful, our room was spacious, and we had a clean bathroom. They provide a good breakfast and dinner on request. It is situated in the historic area surrounded by beautifully decorated haveli and a stunning temple. The street has many lovely neighbours. We loved it so much we will be definitely staying again.

• Rasya (8/5): Very Good, will certainly recommend. - I felt French Haveli was a great place to get a feel of staying in a Pol (cluster of homes) - very well located at walking distance to popular attractions in the old city. Sensitively renovated and well maintained, the staff are willing to always help. Breakfast was simple great and freshly made which was perfect! Given it is a very old house that was renovated, the privacy, connection to bathrooms and steep steps is something not all people may like. But it didn't affect us since we knew this is how old houses worked.

Will nev - The property is quite old and nicely put up but can get noisy at times. The staff have no idea as there was no management. Foods the worse at the place as the staff doesnt have idea about cooking and theres no eatery nearby Staff arent helpful . There was dust everywhere needed better cleaning . Food served tastes horrible and quality isnt that great and mo eatery nearby .

• Sharmil (7/5): I think the staff and breakfast let it down. It could have a much nicer cosy staying in a Haveli vibe - The setting , the history , the area The breakfast was not good. The staff were not that helpful.
• Pedro (7/5): Good - Location. Very quiet neighbourhood. Heritage place with nice decoration. Workers are nice. Very nice bathroom VERY STEEP LADDERS to any of the rooms (so not best option for non very agile people). 1Breakfast ok but not great (bananas, apples, coffee/tea and omelette). Single bed quite small. NO ENGLISH SPOKEN No lunch or dinner available.
• Sara (9/5): Historic Haveli with clean rooms and tasty breakfast - The hotel is situated in a quiet area away from traffic so it is much nicer for wandering around than other cities we stayed in. Breakfast is at a communal table which is great for swapping top tips and arranging joint excursions with other travellers. The manager's English is OK but not great, you might need to resort to Google translate! Steps are very steep to upstairs bedrooms.

• Atul (10/5): The Heritage at French Haveli, marvellous! - French Haveli is my favourite place with peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. The local manager Bansi and his team always present themselves as helpful. I believe Banis is an asset to the premises. The owner of French Haveli Mr Paterl is extremely helpful everytime when I needed to talk.As it is within the old part of Ahmedabad, you will have a feel of heritage ambience. Ahmedabad is famous for street food as well as restaurant based eating place. Everything is good. However, at night time, returning to the property, sometimes, we encounter barking of street dogs. So its advisable to get an tuk tuk or uber as close as possible. I know this is nothing to do with the hotel itself. Just an observation for safety.
• Sourjya (9/5): Superb - Parmar is a nice host. Helpful in everything. All other staff were kind and responsive. Interiors are great and does give a haveli feeling in Old Ahmedabad. Bed was comfortable. Nice workspace or common space outside the room. Overall, enjoyable. Room could have been bigger, but they provide a good workspace so nothing to complain. I have enjoyed my stay here.
