Guest Reviews
- Patrick (7/5): So far okay for a short stay - Location A real table was not available, washing cups and plates in the bathroom
- Yip (1/5): -
- Shannon (8/5): - The area, so much wildlife just out the door. Beds very comfortable Very poor wifi when it worked. In fairness they did have storms recently. Bathroom sink clogged with hair.
- Christophe (9/5): Very nice stay. We saw some koalas and kangaroos. - The location on a very nice and wild island It would be nice to see someone at the reception. Hard to find our room in the darkness. The room was very cold when we arrived.
- O'B (9/5): Delightful - Beautiful location Everything was great
- Barry (8/5): -
- Deborah (5/5): Disappointing - Great location The room and bathroom were not very clean, there were multiple cobwebs and spiders in the main room and bugs on the ceiling of the bathroom, the ceiling fan was full of bugs.
The cutlery was dirty and we had to wash before using.
The shower sprayed water everywhere when you adjusted it.
The fridge was noisy in the night with it being right next to the bed.
- Elizabeth (8/5): Lovely place to get away and relax - Nice and relaxing place to stay right on the water.
Plenty of wildlife to see and walking/ bike tracks to explore. It needs to be updated a bit
- bert (7/5): - de locatie was erg mooi kamer keek uit opeen andere kamer, weinig plek om buiten te zitten
- Donald (5/5): Spot the koala đš - The wifi wasn't available
- Andreas (9/5): -
- Daniel (8/5): -
- robinski61 (8/5): -
- Tony (9/5): - location and facilities nothing
- McAllister (10/5): -
- Peter (7/5): - Bush sertting and wildlife, such as kangaroos encountered in the carpark Only three coffee sachets provided for a four-night stay. If a place is providing coffee/tea, and not restocking daily, they should multiply the daily supply by the length of the stay.
- Elizabeth (8/5): - Amazing location. Wonderful staff. Accommodation was clean and comfortable.
- Michael (9/5): -
- Citroen6268 (6/5): Fantastic location but not the most comfortable - Location is excellent! Parking was safe and easy. The mini fridge in our room was terribly noisy but I didn't want to unplug it because we had put some milk in it. So I slept badly. The bed was fine for me (I'm tiny) but my husband who isn't big either but heavier than me, felt all the bed springs. So he slept badly too.
- Nicole (5/5): Look at Abbey website to see all room types that you might be allocated and advertised facilities we - Location was good, the shower water pressure was good & the room was clean. The Wifi didn't work which also meant the streaming services on the TV didn't work.
The images of the cottage style room on booking.com didn't match the actual low budget motel room that we stayed in.
- Anna (10/5): - Fabulous location, comfortable, simple room. Koalas and kangaroos abound! Wonderful spot for nature lovers. Nothing.
- Weber (6/5): - Toller Standort, einfacher Check-In Rezeption nur 3 Stunden pro Tag geöffnet, tote Fliegen am Fenster, kein WLAN
- Carolyn (10/5): Relaxing in nature, quiet and convenient to all we needed or wanted - Location Nothing
- Lynne (8/5): - Location is superb.very restful
- Sam (6/5): - Cost, location Tv and wifi didn't work dispite
Informing staff
- Hiromi (10/5): I recommend there to stay. - It was second time to stay there.
I wanted to stay there because I was happy to stay there last time. The room is clean and I could relax. Also wildlife.

- Seng (10/5): -
- didier (9/5): Ă refaire - Calme lieu
- unitedworldof (7/5): Great spot to spend for a couple of nights. Close to the ferry, koalas, and water. - Good location, close to the water and koalas. Not kitchen facilities.
- Steven (10/5): - Excellent cabin for the family. Very welcoming and very spiritual. We absolutely loved it thank you cath
- Eline (8/5): - Locatie is top; overal koalaâs.
Huisje is erg netjes en schoon, wel enigszins gedateerd. Grote badkamer. -
- Alison (8/5): - Raymond Island was fantastic and we got to see koalas in the wild. The Abbey was basic but all we needed for 1 night stay.
- Paul (10/5): -
- Kristen (10/5): - We only stayed 1 night. Great value for money and spotlessly clean. 3 koalas in the tree over the road in the morning and 2 owls cozied up together in another tree. Great coffee and toasties at the caravan next to the ferry. Thanks
- Keith (8/5): - Great location for koala spotting
- Anna (10/5): - Nice place and old hotel
- Joyce (8/5): Very good -
- Peter (3/5): Tired and arun down - The place is really run down, the images on line dont match the reality of a tired and pretty ordinary place
- Simon (8/5): Basic but very rewarding. - The location was excellent. Welcomed by a large number of kangaroos. Quite, only guests on this site. Kaola walks and bushland walks beaut and age friendly, flat trails.
Wi-Fi and TV was very good.
Take insect repellent year round.
A small island with no shops, a bonus, but also a problem if ill-prepared. Rooms a bit tired. Very slippery floors on bathroom, no shower curtain so floor was awash. Small tea and coffee space with power cords pulled in and out depending on the appliance used.
Only cooking was the in-room microwave and a jug, tiny refrigerator.
- Lacy (9/5): A delightful place to stay. - The Abbey is a lovely place to stay - a little oasis in the busyness of life. We loved having access to a private beach, walking on Raymond Island and seeing the wildlife. The cottage provided good accommodation for our small family holiday. Having a kitchen meant that we could self-cater, and we enjoyed meals in the restaurants in Paynesville each evening.
- Sueda (10/5): Magical and peaceful accommodation: Wild koala & kangaroo with the host's hospitality - Spacious, sparkling clean and warm atmosphere. Friendly staff.
Great location. Easy to roam around and look up to find wild Koala.
Lovely church next to the water.
Short yet fun ferry travel to the island.
Value for money. Highly recommended.
- Roy (1/5): Health hazard, unhygienic - Location Wasn't clean, found mold within the bed liners. Old food crumbs in the drawers. Overall wasn't a nice stay and quite a health hazard, we had to check out early, couldn't stay there anymore longer
- Thirumalai (8/5): Very good -
- Mathew (6/5): Wildlife at your doorstep. - Great location on the koala trail and also on the beach. Quiet and pleasant. The unit was clean. Communication was excellent. Loved the wildlife right outside the doorstep. Needs a bit of TLC. The towels were bleach stained and almost threadbare. Curtains and guttering needing attention.
- Damien (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shaunee (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful location, great room size and the staff were very helpful with assisting us with everything we needed. Will be staying again and recommending to friends and family.
- Xerox (10/5): A beautiful place to stay, highly recommended! - We had a lovely stay despite rainy weather. Our young family of 4 stayed in a family room which was a really clean, thoughtful and comfortable space. The location was lovely and we saw kangaroos and rabbits. We did a longer walk to join the koala trail and walked along the pebbly shores of the lake which was also very beautiful. Not much to say here... Doing dishes in the bathroom sink was a little tricky? The trail around the Abbey was not well signposted?
- Shirish (9/5): Cozy cottage stay - Great get away, location was amazing, had it's own private little beach, had a little church and plenty of grounds for activities and kids to run amongst the wallabies. Property is a little old and dated, but generally good.
- Xu (5/5): Passable -
- Amarasinghe (6/5): overall good place, clean. But did not have hot water enough for 3 people to take a shower. - good for the price
clean we did not have hot water enough for 3 people to have shower.
- Andrea (8/5): Quiet and Quaint - Property is quaint as described. The Koala walk indeed does provide many chances to see them in the trees above. There are lots of birds on the island as well.
- Saviorina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ruth (10/5): Exceptional - Basic motel room but had everything i needed and was clean and comfortable. Staff where great super friendly and helpful. Amazing location, would happily stay again
- David (10/5): Exceptional - What an amazing location! Raymond Island is full of Koala and Kangaroo and a huge variety of birds. Superb place to visit.
- Jackie (7/5): Loved the location - Good location. Wonderful to stay on the island overnight to see the wildlife. Good sized accommodation with separate bathroom, kitchen and lounge. Outside lights were on all night and shone into bedroom đ
- Shane (8/5): Very good -
- Lili (7/5): I liked the place but you canât cook there - Koalas in the trees No barbecue to cook
- Peter (6/5): Pleasant - Pleasant bushland setting. Unfortunately, the rain prevented us from undertaking any outdoor activities. The bathrooms appear to have undergone a make-over and were very good. Some of the linen supplied wasn't of a very high standard.
- Rafael (10/5): - Nice place
- Julie (8/5): Very good -
- Bruce (7/5): Good -
- Amanda (10/5): Great time had - Room was clean and well stocked. Good location, only a 2 minute drive or 10 minutes walk from the ferry. Check in was efficient and easy.
- Colette (9/5): Clean, comfortable and friendly and efficient staff. - We paid $14 for a car and 2 adults to get to the Island. We parked our car at the Abbey and started to unload our bags. There was a Koala sitting in a tree above our car. Other sightings included kangaroos, echidna and many types of birds. There are no shops or restaurants on the island but you can catch the ferry back to Paynesville for free at anytime. Bed clothes will need updating to achieve a higher rating.
- gill (8/5): - The Koala were simply amazing. The Abbey was a great place to stay - we were right in the middle of it. Wonderful.
- Ignacio (7/5): Good -
- Kerry (7/5): Lovely spot to spend a few days. Staff were lovely! - We loved the location and the unit was clean. The bed was a bit uncomfortable. A plastic bowl, cloths and detergent to wash dishes would have been great.
- Geoffrey (8/5): - We enjoyed a quiet stay in an older property which had everything we needed. Appreciated being allowed to charge our EV at the laundry block. It was fun catching the ferry over to the island and there was nice a sense of community. The koala trail in the morning was fantastic and unexpected - there are lots and I've never seen them in the "wild" before.
- Sera-jane (8/5): Very good -
- Vinod (3/5): Poor - Room was not clean spider webs every where Room was not clean spider webs every where
- A (6/5): Pleasant -
- Scott (10/5): Exceptional - Serenity
- Alpesh (8/5): Very good -
- Pamela (9/5): Superb -
- Ann (8/5): - Very Clean unit.
Basic amenities for kitchen and bathroom. Have to bring own shampoo and body soap.
Lovely and quiet with nature all around.
- Nalin (8/5): - No BBQ area or access to a kitchen
- Md (9/5): Superb -
- Emran (8/5): Very good -
- Nina (8/5): Overall, a lovely comfortable stay at a very affordable price in an amazing location. - An amazing location near the waters edge and directly connected to the loop of the Koala Trail which was aan amazing experience to see koals in the wild. The room was very clean, bed comfortable with all the basics provided for self catering ( microwave, dishes cutlery & fridge). Rooms could replace towels as they were clean but thin and old. Rooms all have a nice aspect of the garden but are not private, as other guests walk past to reach their rooms and the large windows look directly over the bed although, they have a curtain it could do with an inner lining to let in light but provide privacy. Washing up dishes in the bathroom sink is also feels a little unhygenic.
- Marta (9/5): Superb -
- Justin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jeska (6/5): Pleasant - Nice quite location with lots of native wildlife Running the heater, my daughters allergies flared up, might pay to check the filters
- Sharyn (10/5): Exceptional - Convinience and value for money great place to stay
We come frequently to visit terminally ill mum who lives on island
- Ann (10/5): - Quiet, comfortable and reasonably priced.
- Lewis (8/5): Very good -
- Ruvindya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michelle (6/5): Pleasant -
- Dixit (7/5): Good -
- Vicki (8/5): Very good -
- David (7/5): Good -
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect location. We had some lovely walks. It was close to the water to go and watch the sunset. Had kangaroo visits in the afternoon. We would definitely stay here again. Nothing, it was exactly what we needed.
- Jackson (9/5): Superb -
- Linda (6/5): Pleasant - The environment and the chapel. Close to the water. Kangaroos and iris. The bed was really comfortable. Curtain falling off track. The bathroom was not all that clean - seemed hygienic but dirty in the corners. Open shower did not have door or curtain so water got onto floor. Water was nice and hot though. Dark when I arrived and the lighting was poor. Had to use my phone to find my room.
- Cathy (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect location - peaceful and quiet. Short drive/walk to ferry. So close to the koalas and kangaroos. Room was very clean. Definitely recommend.
- Vicki (9/5): Superb - The peace & quiet, comfortable beds and lovely location.
