Guest Reviews
- Dene-roots (6/5): Not my first choice - Rooms were small, including the towels. There is no one at the front, we had to go to the bar to request help with check-in as there was a sign telling us. The breakfast was ok, there is a bar in the same building. Our son had to stay in a separate room down the hall which didn’t make us feel good.
- Elizabeth (6/5): - Room was clean, simple. Utilitarian
- Ivan (6/5): - Hotel was easy to find. Access to reception is through a flight of stairs, have to carry your heavy luggage. The room that was given to us smelled bad and noticed the toilet had not been cleaned; I immediately notified the receptionist and right away placed us in a better room and handled the situation. I wish I could give a better review, even after the issue was resolved, but I did not feel comfortable for the remainder of my stay (use of bathroom, eating in the restaurant).
- Cathi (10/5): - Clean, quiet and the breakfast was great.
- clareandtrevor (8/5): Good location, friendly staff - We stayed here for 1 night during our ring road trip. The hotel reception area was nice and the staff were friendly, especially the barman. There was a pool table in the bare area which was good fun.
Dinner was very good, the baked cheese with pistachios and honey was amazing, we both also had burgers which were good too.
A 4 rating has been given for the dated bathroom, but apart from that, would recommend.
- Melissa (8/5): - Fantastic breakfast.
- Mariano (10/5): - Big windows to watch Aurora Borealis
- Verified traveler (4/5): No value for money - Hotel is below average meanwhile price is quite high, no value for money at all. Room was in a bad condition, it’s actually like a Motel or Hostel.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not recommended - This is a hotel with rooms that are very old and dated. Tiny tiny bathroom with only an overhead shower. No shower wand or shower cap so be prepared to get your hair wet. No tissues, hair conditioner or other amenities you would expect at this price point. Hair dryer provided is also ancient. Requires you to continuously squeeze the handle in order for air to flow. Then it practically overheats. No cool button. Ridiculous place. No staff around in the breakfast area. Most of the food was cold and picked over by 9 am. There are very few hotels and guesthouses in this area so they can do what they want and guests have to take it. If you can book elsewhere, I suggest doing so.
- DANA (10/5): - Was great location.
- Jim (10/5): Will stay here again - Pleasant hotel, great staff. Note that there is no elevator.
Restaurant has good choices, buffet breakfast has hot and cold selections.
Will stay again
- Stanislav (8/5): - Older, basic hotel. Not too many other options in area. Great restaurant with good pizza.
- Jiho (10/5): - Breakfast provided
- Gabriel (6/5): - Nice hotel, but with small and noise rooms. Nice restaurant and bar
- helgamariag2019 (10/5): Really lovely stay - Staff was very helpful and polite
Nice and clean room
Food was excellent
Great location
Totally worth it and I highly recommend
- Maria (8/5): - All you need for one night stay
- Willow (10/5): - Functional room, great breakfast, nice staff, wonderful.
- Tiffany (10/5): - The room was so clean and lovely! The beds absolutely comfortable, and the staff were so kind and genuine. I felt very safe here, and enjoyed the beautiful complimentary breakfast they offered! Would happily stay here again!
- Alfred pk (6/5): - I didn't like it as it's way too pricey for its quality.
- Carol (6/5): - An obliging receptionist arranged an early check in. Good buffet breakfast. The door lock was super difficult to use. Smart TV had no free channels.
- Maik (10/5): - Good Location, good Hotel
- Jonina (10/5): - Frábært starfsfólk, hreint, góð þjónusta, komum aftur👍
- Nico (4/5): - Old building. Small rooms which are definetely not soundproof. Curtains that do not darken the room in summer. Furnishing a bit old fashioned and not much space for luggage.
Very kind and very helpful staff.
- Randy (10/5): - We had a really great experience here and the best mattresses we've found by far. This is the 5th night in Iceland for us and the previous 4 hotels the mattresses were not good at all. This hotel was lovely in every respect. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The continental breakfast they offered was probably the nicest one I've ever had - anywhere. Good water, good tv, good location, nice hotel :-)
- Matttyrermusic (4/5): A convenient stop on our trip, memorable but not in a good way! - We are certainly still talking about this hotel - as when discussing high points and low points of our ring road drive this ranks as the low point.
But, to start positive, the rooms were small, but adequate for a single overnight stop (but very comparable to a Travelodge in the UK…). The bathrooms were dark and a bit cramped.
The attached restaurant was expensive (for what it was), with staff for whom we seemed to be an inconvenience with limited options for coeliac disease (in spite of emailing ahead of time) and the breakfast was poor.
Overall we cannot recommend this hotel as anything other than a pit stop, but if I were to plan this trip again, I would seek a different hotel in Egilsstaðir.
- 675da_ik (10/5): Beyond expectations - I stayed for two nights in a buisness trip. I was in a room for single person and it was clean and mostly comfortable. The staff was friendly, excelent breakfast and the location was great. Overall the hotel was beyond my expectations and I will probably choose it again later.
- Nikolas (10/5): - Fantastic hotel. Rooms were just what we needed. Great restaurant attached to the hotel. Very walkable surroundings. Would stay again.
- Robert (10/5): - Property was nice staff were great.
- Filippe (10/5): - Staff were excellent. Slightly dated feel but breakfast was great with many options and room was clean and functional.
- ram88doc (8/5): Nice Hotel - We stayed here with troll Expeditions. It has a 3-star rating. This is a nice hotel in town. The room did have a TV and good wifi. There were no night tables by the beds. There is radiator heat. The bathroom was small but it had a normal shower so no flooding the bathroom floor. There were two single beds. It was the most comfortable bed so far on the trip. The restaurant at the hotel had an excellent menu and the free buffet breakfast had a good selection as well.
- Edith (8/5): Gezellige barman - Heerlijke bedden. Fijne bar en een super uitgebreid ontbijt. Hoorde wel de tv van de buren maar wel zacht. Barkeeper is gezellig en er is een pooltafel
- Rebecca (8/5): - Had a nice stay. Breakfast was nice. Room was simple and clean, had everything we needed. Short walk into town for dining options (also had restaurant on site)
- d0rthyc (6/5): Almost a poor experience except for the nice breakfast! - We were with a tour group. Our room was located in the basement. The room had a double bed, two nightstands and a small desk. The room was exceptionally cramped and small. For privacy, we had to keep the drapes closed since we were at ground level. The bathroom was tiny and contained very outdated fixtures. I had to place a towel on the floor of the shower stall to keep from slipping. One good comment: the breakfast was varied and plentiful and served in an updated, well-decorated dining area!
- tara (6/5): - Did not realise that the bar attached to the property was also a night club, it was a little too loud for our tastes. But the staff were very friendly, the breakfast was delicious and the rooms were very clean.
- Ryan (10/5): - Great stay.
- Javier (10/5): - Un hotel muy agradable con un desayuno muy bueno
- AFTAB (2/5): - Reception—- staff not very helpful. Multiple steps with no ramp or elevator to get to the desk.. situated to the side of the hotel.
Room— multiple steps with no elevator or helpful way to get to the room.
Room— very cramped for 3 adults. In a lower level like half basement. Very spartan furnishing for the price charged ( 247 US$ ).
Bathroom — sink was very small & cracked, it was partly being shadowed by the small very old fashioned glass shelf. The water stank of sulphur. The bathroom measured less than 3 feet in diameter & about 8 ft or so in length.
No place to keep your toilet stuff.
Horrible for the price charged, at best it did not merit over 50 $.
Not over 2 star rating.
Restaurant —- very poor food. Over 25$ for a small cup of soup with very poor taste.
Breakfast — most items in bread section were clearly stale or day old or more.
Never stay there again.
- Ashlei (6/5): - The room itself was adequate. The shower is a little slippery for older folks. Beds were comfortable and the double pillows were an added bonus.
The main issue was the restaurant. It appeared that service in that restaurant differs depending on the color of one’s skin which was disappointing as it put a small damper on my mother’s dream trip.
- Yiu Wan (10/5): - Apartment is very nice.
- Paul (10/5): - Front staff were very nice and accommodating.
- Alejandra (10/5): - Great place to stay. Convenient self check in when arriving late, quick responses, great food!
- Lore24 (2/5): Shower head from hell !!! - We were given 3 twins room instead of the promised 2 doubles and 1 twin to start with and the receptionist told us that the Hotel was full and that was it, no apologies .
The rooms were in the basement and they looked more like a student accomodation. To get to the reception and the rooms there was no lift so not ideal for people with mobility problems or heavy luggage.
There were no bedside cabinets , the beds were positioned under the window with no headboards and the rooms were sparsely furnished . The shower head was rusty and mouldy in all of the rooms. I have never experienced something like this before.
We went upstair to complain about the shower and the receptionist gave us the key to another room that had the same problem, if not worse. She was not at all apologetic again.
I suggested to her that they will need to change the shower heads asap, for the money that they charge it is the least that they can do.
This was the worst Hotel in our Iceland trip.
- Candace (10/5): Great place!! - Loved the happy hour. Shot a game of pool. Comfy. Nice staff. Great dinner and free breakfast was fabulous. All around perfect!!
- Dhaval (6/5): - Not a very friendly front desk staff, their free WiFi sucks, doesn’t work in rooms, works only near front desk. We had booked two rooms for two couples and they provided single beds that too in different directions.
- Ingunn Maria (10/5): 9/10 - Wonderful hotel and the staff was amazing! We felt so welcome. The room we got was great but as summer nights in Iceland are very bright the curtains could be better. At least have roller blinds behind the blackout curtains.
The food at the restaurant was amazing as was the breakfast.
- Iwona (10/5): - Lovely
- Kiran (4/5): - The bathrooms were a little old and very tiny, and the water smelled bad and rotten.
Front desk and restaurant staff were pretty good.
- Dipanjan (6/5): - The rooms were very dingy. The bathroom was deplorable. No elevators and no one to help if you have to haul your luggage.
Breakfast was disappointing. Dinner was overpriced. Overall, it was a disappointing experience. I should have looked at the Google rating (which is around 3) and it is correctly so.
- Rafael (6/5): - .
- Verified traveler (8/5): A good place, but no ADA access. - First, you cannot phone the front desk, even when the system gives you the option of English, you cannot figure out a way to reach the hotel desk. And I needed to owing to a problem at the airport. Second, there is no ramp up to the lobby, so if you have heavy bags or ADA needs, this hotel is not for you. However, the breakfast is good, and loved the Smart TV. Room was nice and shower terrific.
- IreneT2215 (10/5): comfortable room, good breakfast - I stayed here for one night as part of an organized tour. The room was clean, the Wi-Fi was strong, and the bed was comfortable. I especially appreciated the two big, comfy pillows on each bed; most hotels I've been to only provide one flat pillow per person. The staff were friendly and multilingual, speaking Spanish and Chinese to my other tour mates. The hotel provided a good breakfast, including an English breakfast, which is not common in other hotels in Iceland. Overall, everything was great.
- Grace (10/5): Great stay in a little town. - Got caught here during a snow storm and they easily accommodated an extension. The rooms are big although we had to fully get everything out of the room so that they could clean. Breakfast was great. Decor was dated, but that would be my only minor complaint. Staff was really friendly and helpful. Small town, not much to do except for the baths and puffins (which we couldn’t see because the road was closed).
- John (10/5): - Nice updated property convenient restaurant delicious food
- Jennifer (10/5): - Staff was friendly, helpful, and accommodating
- tootsymoo (6/5): Very basic, needs some TLC and improvement - First impressions has zero kerb appeal. Stayed here for a stop over enroute to the North. It would be fine for a night just to sleep but we stayed for 2.
Lady on arrival was friendly and polite. Chap in the morning must have been having a bad day because he didn’t look up or speak until about 3pm.
It’s hard to distinguish staff from guests, they mingle into one. Example: breakfast we thought a group were guests but they got up shortly after finishing their food and started clearing tables and went into the Kitchen!
Rooms are very, very basic compared to others stops (6 hotels in total). Twin beds opposite sides of the room. Cleaning was basic, made the beds and changed the towels. There were still crumbs and pebbles on the floor from previous guests.
Shower was ok, water does smell strongly.
Decor is tired and run down;
- Front steps broken with missing tiles
- No plug in sink
- Carpets are filthy
The TV in the room has no signal.
Breakfast was basic - some cereal, short selection of hot food, bread etc. Not extensive.
Was going to eat there for dinner but was not too enticed by the smell - staff did not seem service orientated so we went somewhere else about 10mins walk and the food was great.
Cleaners attempted to get into room 8am. Way too early - there are no signs you can place on door. I was in the shower.
Would not stay again.
- parthiv (8/5): - Not great condition for price
- danny (10/5): - Very nice dinner, breakfast buffee and views!
- nextgirl (6/5): Comfortable room but staff could have been friendlier - We stayed here for one night as part of a tour around Iceland. The hotel is situated in the town. The room was average sized and the food was reasonable but the staff in the restaurant were not very pleasant. The waiter was sarcastic, inattentive and just generally not very helpful. We felt like we were an inconvenience to him.
I wouldn't stay here again
- Kristie (8/5): - Restaurant on site has great food, happy hour 🎉
Great complimentary breakfast. Rooms are older but still great and cleaned well. Very happy with our stay!
- CloudYeah (8/5): Comfortable hotel - Comfortable bed and pillows. Room size ok. Hairdryer and TV in the room. No iron/iron board/microwave/fridge in the room. Non-standard highlight in Iceland: water kettle in the room. NO LIFT. Very kind and helpful French-speaking reception staff. Eating facilities nearby: a pizza restaurant. 3 supermarkets close-by, one of which has a fast food corner (important information as on Sundays the restaurant is closed and this could be the only eating facility available).
- Ian (10/5): overnight - great overnight stop
- Holly (10/5): - Firstly I’d like to thank the wonderful staff at this hotel for the lovely birthday surprise for my Fiancé when we arrived, you went above and beyond! The lady that checked us in was lovely, helpful and we didn’t have to wait long. Room was on the smaller side but had everything we needed for 1 night on our road trip - clean and comfortable. Breakfast was basic (same as most in Iceland) but plenty to fill you up and constantly replenished. Good location, lovely pizzeria and brewery a short walk away. Ample walking. Would stay again, thank you!
- Nadine (10/5): - Simple hotel but exactly what we wanted. Very clean and friendly staff. Included breakfast was great!
- Willow (8/5): - Overall, the hotel was good. The breakfast was the best one during my trip to Iceland. The staff were friendly, and the room felt clean but had a strange smell in addition to the sulfur smell found in Iceland.
- Cynthia (10/5): - Nice place to stay. Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast.
- Igal (8/5): - Was reasonably good
- Jihong (10/5): - Facility is basic. Nothing special but very professional. A bit pricey. Breakfast is good.
- Sage (10/5): - The hotel room itself was very nice. It was the first room we have stayed at in Iceland with multiple pillows. The shower was inconsistent in its ability to stay hot, but wouldn’t go as far to say it got cold when it shouldn’t have been. Opening a window was a must, as it got a little stuffy and warm overnight. The room did not come with a mini fridge. The toilet was also not the strongest, as it required multiple flushes in some instances.
The onsite restaurant was nice. It was vegan friendly, but not an abundance of options. The menu was definitely on the pricier side, but had a wide array of options for someone with an unrestricted diet.
Very pretty views from rooms.
Breakfast was good. There was an assortment of fruits, vegetables, meats, breads, coffee, tea, cereal, and juices.
- JavaMama58 (6/5): No elevator - We were assigned a room on the 3rd floor, no elevator! Too many steps involved. Faded carpets, strange shower basin. Placement of a shelf
Over the small sinks doesn’t allow for easy manoeuvres.
Their restaurant was very good and was quite busy. People other than hotel guests were walking in for a meal. The breakfast spread was very good with quite a wide selection of warm and cold dishes. The restaurant was the best part of this hotel stay.
- Avi (8/5): Nice hotel - Very small room, good servies, good location and good breakfast.
- Vanessa (10/5): - We got storm in at the hotel and the staff was very nice, provide coffee and water throughout the day.
- letrips66 (8/5): The restaurant raised the rating -- otherwise average. - Like all non-Reykjavik hotels, the hotel isn't disability accessible. It was snowing when we arrived and the walk was slippery. It was still slippery the next day, so no one was keeping up with clearing it off. The room was typical for rural Iceland -- small room and tiny bathroom.
The next morning when we were supposed to leave, the roads were closed. Even though check out wasn't until 11, the staff tried to get us to leave our rooms beginning at 9 -- not exactly friendly for customers with no options to leave.
We did have dinner in the restaurant, and it was good, as was breakfast.
- Barry (10/5): - Friendly staff. Nice rooms.
- BERNARDO (10/5): - Great location, good food, and the best staff! They work with you to help solve your issues. The only complaint I would mention is that the rooms are kind of small.
- Brandon (10/5): - We liked this hotel, the staff was extremely helpful and told us where to go in the area. The room is small but was good enough for us. Best part was the amazing breakfast, best one we had in Iceland! Featured many delicious options.
- Vidzajs (6/5): Okay as a roof over your head and good breakfast. - Front of house staff were not too welcoming. There were issues in the room of a bed side lamp not working and also poor intermittent WIFI signal. When this was pointed out, the front of house staff didn’t seem to be helpful and said it was my device. It wasn’t. That said, it was an average stay and only for the one night. Perhaps we were just unlucky with the room that we had. On the plus, they served a very decent and comprehensive breakfast catering for all tastes with a wide variety.
- 934evelynes (6/5): bring your own jam - bring your own jam!
it is unbeleaveble they run out of ham! never seen that somewere bevore! rooms are clean. for hot water in the shower wait 5-7 minutes, then its warm. the restaurant is nice, but pizza is only on weedays avable. dont know why
- Tamara (8/5): - Clean. Comfortable beds.
- Bing (8/5): - quiet, clean and safe.
- Neli (10/5): - Great
- Noides76 (6/5): Hotel in need of improvements. - We stayed for 2 nights at this hotel.
The room was ok but the bathroom was really old looking and small.
The windows were in wood and let the wind enter, the carpets in the main halls need replacement.
The breakfast was nice and the staff friendly.
- Antoine (8/5): - There was a party the night we stayed there. Loud music until 2am… But the lady at front desk was helpful and accommodating and found us a room as far away as possible from the event.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Charming stay, comfortable bed - The bed was very very comfy and the buffet breakfast was nice. The hotel itself is a bit dated but we didn't have a problem with it. The room and bathroom were very clean. The tv only played radio stations and a couple of channels but since we only stayed for a night this wasn't an inconvenience. The staff was friendly and the location great, near restaurants and grocery stores.
- david (10/5): - staff very friendly
- Jeffrey (8/5): Comfortable Bed - Very big room with nice double bed - some odors from in-house restaurant but not bad
- Julie (10/5): - This is the second time we have stayed here. The staff is friendly and helpful . Had pizza for dinner. The breakfast is plentiful and well presented.
- Kerry (10/5): Egilsstadir Sojourn - Very nice hotel in Egilsstadir. Close by the trail through the forest on the eastern edge of town. Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent breakfast included.
- cqfp123 (6/5): Ok for one night. Tiny bathroom. - Stayed one night while on a tour. In the first room I got, the heating unit didn't work, so I was moved to a different room. Small, clean room next to the restaurant, quiet after 22:00. Reasonably comfortable bed and pillows. Room amenities included an electric kettle. Tiny bathroom with hardly any shelf space. Very small sink, too small to even fill the kettle. Very small shower, good water pressure.
Breakfast buffet with good selection.
Wifi worked well.
- Hjördís (10/5): Good hotel - Good location. Breakfast was very good, the rooms clean and the beds good.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Not having an elevator for the price charge is outrageous
Also entry looks old and carpet is fading
- Robert (8/5): - Nice but nothing special. Friendly helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The hotel was fine for staying one night just to eat and sleep and the food was good.
- Ramona (10/5): Our stay - Clean, friendly
- Verified traveler (4/5): - nothing. Staff was not accomodating or friendly. no phones in the rooms, the room set up was odd. i would not stay here again
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good location. Could use a little update. Excellent breakfast.
