- Andy (10/5): Nice lodge - Very helpful staff
- Yu-Cheng (10/5): -
- mia (10/5): -
- Helen (10/5): Real ski in ski out - Real ski in ski out!!!
Only 15 mins to get into town (20 on the way back walking up hill if the travelator has finished for the day)
Staff are so helpful with travel communication and dropping us / picking us up from the bus stop.
Rooms nice and warm Must pre book dinner not possible to pay on the day
- Andrew (9/5): Cozy on mountain Japanese hotel with wonderful staff and friendly intimate atmosphere - Very cozy Japanese hotel. Loved the woodburning fire in the lounge and the dinner was very good. Staff were excellent and friendly. Location was great for access to skiing The location was the best and worst aspect. If you want to be in town at night, then this is not the hotel for you.
- Jodi (10/5): A very local and wonderful place to be on the mountain - The location is the best. The owner and staff do everything to make you comfortable and welcome. The atmosphere is friendly and inviting. The food and style is very local to the area. Rooms are small, dorm style. We did not mind it, but that might not be for everyone.
- Miroslav (10/5): Very comfortable, on the slopes, with great food - This place was just we hoped for. Calm and on the slopes. Excelent cuisine.
- Samantha (10/5): -
- Isabela (9/5): -
- Bosco (9/5): Great accommodation - From the beginning:
-Pickup at the Nakao station N3 bus stop (Nozawa Liner bus) in their snow tractor car
-Location was amazing, literally ski in ski out
-Share toilet, bathroom/shower room and Onsen (hot tub/Onsen)
-breakfast and if you pay for dinner was different every day
-Lodge is family run
-very good facilities, we got the triple bed room, has a gas heater, tv.
Small area in dining section for children to play with their toys
-very friendly owner accommodating, we asked to have our breakfast and dinner first before they bought out the 3 Yr old's meal, which they did.
- Scott (3/5): Great being right to the slopes was great and the staff were really nice every else was bad. - The breakfast and staff were awesome which was a little bonus for this place. However there was not much else that was good. It was The beds were HORRIBLE. Basically just a spring mattress. The shared bathroom wasn’t great, but the shower being a public shower was unexpected. Walls were very thin and there were some other inconsiderate guests there chatting until late at night. Also it was far from town with only 2 options for dinner nearby.
- SHAOMING (10/5): - 年末年始に妻と一緒にスキーに行って大変お世話になりました。温かいおもてなしいただきすごく感動しました。
- Lachlan (9/5): A warm, welcoming stay in a perfect ski-in ski-out location - The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made us feel right at home. The daily homemade breakfasts were a real highlight and added so much to the overall experience. If you enjoy skiing or snowboarding, this place is perfect, with the slopes being easily accessible and right nearby and a storage for your equipment on site. The only downside is that it’s a bit of a trek to the main town. There is a walking escalator during the day, but it closes around 5 pm. If you’re planning to go out for dinner, the walk back from town can be a bit long, so it’s best to be prepared with food before the Yu Road access closes.

- wren (8/5): Very friendly staff and a nice ride to and from the bus stop. - It was ski in ski out . It was far from town. If you are looking for more nightlife I would recommend staying in town.
- Silvia (10/5): Gerne wieder - Lage an der Piste! Ski in/out war perfekt. Nettes, kleines Zimmer. Entzückende, aufmerksame Besitzer. Transfer vom und zum Busterminal zuverlässig und angenehm. Besuch der Ortschaft nach dem Skifahren etwas anstrengend, besonders nach Schneefall (Trampelpfad).
- Gemma (9/5): Great place for ski in-ski out. Super friendly family. Dinner is a must!! - Our room was extremely spacious. The family that run the lodge are really nice. The boys working in the restaurant were great. Amazing dinner!!

- Miranda (8/5): Nice stay during ski season - O was during shoulder season , everything was closed in the village and shuttlebussen were down, but o was there yo see if i would book next ski season. They are very kind people. It is next to ski lift.
- Carlijn (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (8/5): Lovely Owners, Great for Skiers on a Budget - Cheap and cheerful though functional. Had one Twin bed room for solo occupation. Very good price. No ensuite - shared facilities outside room/down corridor. Towels provided, need own toiletries. Small warm bathroom/mini onsen for single person use at a time. I used it twice - no queing issues. VERY close to ski slopes and ski back easily possible. Has own ski rental, slightly cheaper than main rental near lifts central ski base about 500m away. Ski/Kit storage area downstairs. Small place (about 8 rooms, I guess), but all I needed for a weekend/2 nights stay. A bit of a walk to the main town (15 mins in, longer back uphill). There are plenty of food options in town. Also visited reconmendwd Onsen, there are a number of options but some are alledgedly very hot and recommendd only for locals. Can get breakfast and dinner at hotel. Very helpful and friendly staff. Strongly recommend for ardent skiers who don't need fancy facilities.
- April (9/5): Superb - Breakfast was fabulous. We also had a few dinners there and they were delicious.
- James (9/5): Ski in Ski out. Old school hospitality in an excellent Lodge with family staff. - The Location at the top of the Town in the Snow, next to a river. Quiet at Night. Good communication and picked us up in Snow Cat. So Cool to be right in the snow in a proper old school lodge with a bar and fire. Ski in Ski out. Breakfast included. Dinner Meal to book if you like each night. The town is a busy village and a beautiful 10-minute walk through the snow after about 5pm when access to town via free conveyor belt stops each day is finished. Otherwise, it's easy access from central ski and ticket area via conveyor walkway to the top of a thermal onsen area of the town. Owners pick you up and drop off in a Snow cat at start and end of stay. They are very friendly, help with any questions and bar area is nice at any time sitting by the fire with a deck and view of slopes.
- Yu (10/5): Exceptional - Great travel experience! The homestay staff were very friendly, the breakfast was delicious, and they also provided transportation service.
- Alessia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Titikorn (10/5): Lovely place to stay for skiing - Ski-in, ski-out accommodation. Nice owners & staffs. Clean room. No private bathroom but it's ok.
- Charles (9/5): Superb -
- Arie (10/5): Wicked! - Brilliant location, lovely owners, delicious breakfast, comfy beds
- Victoria (8/5): Family feel lodge - Right on the slopes!
A family run lodge, way above the town with excellent views straight out onto the snow.
They only have few rooms and so it never felt busy.
They offer a shuttle run to pick you up/ drop off when you arrive/depart.
Onsite ski rental was a huge plus.
Triple room. Aside from the room, all other facilities are shared. Shower/bathroom was communal, so if you want guaranteed privacy, this isn't for you.
Dinner at the lodge has to be ordered a day in advance, and there are very limited alternatives as you're not near the town. If you're arrving after dark, pre-book dinner (here or the nearby Schneider hotel, are options).
- Matt (10/5): Would recommend staying! - Great location for a skier! Either you sacrifice the town or you sacrifice an easy start/end to the ski day. If you don’t stay near the mountain you would have to walk in boots through parts of town and take the moving walkway up. Food cooked by the host was great! Extremely good value for anyone looking to ski-in-ski-out
- Samantha (10/5): Japan Trip 2025 - Location, the staff, the accommodations, the breakfasts. There was nothing we did not like! Honestly an amazing experience.
- Chelsey (10/5): Such a great stay! The entire lodge is so well kept and so clean. Ski in and out! - Staff were absolutely amazing, so friendly and catered to our needs! Rooms were comfortable. Shared bathrooms, were kept very clean! Everything was great! A little bit of a walk down to the village if you need supper and didn’t plan ahead to book supper at the lodge.
- Timothy (10/5): Really loved out stay - Amazing location. Fantastic service. Absolutely gorgeous surroundings. By far, one of the best ski resorts I’ve been to. The hospitality of the owners and the staff are top notch! Nothing really. Maybe have bigger slippers for people with big feet.
- Wu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tong (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nadia (8/5): Very good -
- Susanne (8/5): Welcoming hosts make a great stay. - I stayed already the second time. Not during early / mid autumn so I had the entire hotel to myself.
The owner is very welcoming. On my first trip I hadn’t booked dinner and she drove me down to Nozawa onsen every night for dinner and picked me up again. On my last stay I booked dinner and breakfast and she is a very good cook too.
My bicycle also got a storage room which is great.
The room itself is simple but all I needed.
- Colin (8/5): Needed organisation, but enjoyable. Best if you are driving. - Out of town at ski slopes. Would be great in winter. Walk into town helped by long moving walkway, but it stops at 4:30, taxis stop soon after and there are no buses. Owners willing to help out in emergency. Nothing about hotel itself.
- Kenichi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nobuyuki (10/5): Exceptional -
- Caitlin (9/5): Superb - Amazing location on the ski slopes, great ski hire shop right next door. Friendly and cosy.
- Li (9/5): Absolutely lovey family-run Alpine style lodge - Highly recommend having dinner at the lodge. Most tasty miso soups I’ve had. Very warm staff, the owner picked me up /dropped me off at the bus stop, I had a nice stay. It’s located right next to the slope so the compromise is you won’t be in the heart of the village
- Tyler (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vincent (10/5): Exceptional - Great hospitality and breakfast. Dinner is awesome too! Nothing!
- Siu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cheryl (7/5): Great location for ski in / out but difficult if village atmosphere is preferred. - Great food, nice variety over the time that we stayed there. The walk to and from the village is difficult in snow if the Yu walkway isn’t operating. We found it was not worth the trek in the evenings so stayed in for dinners instead.
- Marcel (10/5): Exceptional - Great if you want to stay on the snow. Ski in ski out.
Just a little difficult to move around as you’re on the snow and need to walk through it to go anywhere.
- Isaac (9/5): Staff were amazing and lodge was great, very traditional Japanese feel!! - Staff were so friendly and helpful. We were able to rent skis at the lodge which made the whole trip easier!!
- Christian (10/5): Had a delightful stay at the lodge, staff speaks great English and was lovely and helpful. Ski in/ski out location m - Staff was very helpful, responsive and accommodating It’s a long climb to get back to the lodge from the village at night
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional - The lodge was located right next to the Hikage Gondola, multiple ski rentals and restaurants which was very convenient if you want to take advantage of the powdery snow and lift passes. Breakfast and dinner was delicious and all the staff were super friendly. It's difficult to get into town at night since the walking escalator to town closes around 4.30pm, which means you'll need to make sure you have dinner reservations or food planned beforehand.
- Peter (9/5): We enjoyed our stay and are hoping to return again in the future. - Great location, friendly staff and great meals. Room was perfect for our family of four.
- James (10/5): Exceptional - We had a wonderful stay at Hahnenkamm. The ski-in-ski-out location was brilliant and the staff were lovely. The staff were particularly helpful with logistics related to luggage and ski gear, and the over-snow transfers from the Nozawa Onsen Liner bus stop were seamless. The breakfast was very decent and the dinner was exceptional. A cheap ski wax service on site was a great perk.
- Leanne (10/5): Excellent stay in well set up lodge with traditional Japanese flavour, loved our stay! - Ski out and in was very handy and easy. The food at breakfast and dinner was superb, changed every day and Traditional Japanese which staff explained. Very helpful and friendly staff with good ski and boot hire on site. Excellent pick up and drop off service included from bus stop.
- Emily (10/5): Exceptional - We had a fantastic stay. Thank you to the lovely family who runs the lodge, plus Maya and Anna. We had such a great time skiing and Lodge Hahnenkamm was the perfect ski in ski out base. We can’t wait to come back :)
- Belinda (9/5): Great value for money in a good spot - I booked this for my 20 year old son and he really liked it . He said it was a good spot and breakfast included was great. The rooms were neat and tidy and everyone was friendly. Only downside was open communial showering but for the money in peak season it was great
- Philippa (7/5): Good -
- Philippa (7/5): Good -
- Prescott (9/5): Superb -
- Max (8/5): Very good - Brilliant location for ski in ski out, slightly harder for getting into town as bit of a walk on snow but not the end of the world - quite exciting. Staff were delightful and made the trip
- Maureen (8/5): Very good - The location was absolutely unbeatable relative to the slopes. You could actually ski right in and right out of the lodge. I've never stayed at a facility like this before, but will likely look at doing so again next season! It was wonderful that they allowed us to rent skis and gear from the lodge as well, so we could just arrive with our bags and personal items, and not have to worry about lugging large pieces of gear up and down the mountain.
The food was so wonderfully delicious- I highly recommend staying in for dinner!! We ordered the "special course" and were served way more than we expected- multiple courses and all so fresh and healthy.
The staff were so kind and courteous and the facilities were clean and well taken care of. It was SO COLD!!!!!!!!!! Our room was not well insulated so we needed to get straight into bed once we got home for the night and just huddle under our blankets.
Also, we were not aware that we would be picked up and dropped off at different bus stations, and did not love that we were dropped off farther away from town than when we arrived. We were hoping to have a cup of tea and a snack before heading back to Iiyama and ended up having to walk uphill about 15 minutes in the snow to get back to the center of town after being driven down the mountain on checkout.
- Vong (9/5): Superb - Close to ski lift and gondola. Quiet and peaceful environment. Beautiful view next to the slope. My kids can play with the snow in front of the lodge. No restaurants nearby at night. Need to reserve dinner in the lodge one day in advance. Buy some snacks in advance too.
- Sophia (10/5): So much fun and comfort! - Loved how it was on the mountain and staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again! N/A
- Daniela (10/5): Exceptional -
- ジョンボム (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sam (10/5): Exceptional - Great family that is super helpful and kind. We had a wonderful stay.
- Riana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tom (9/5): Loved it. Thanks! - Great location for the slopes. Lodge was really quiet and comfortable, perfect for a good sleep after a day snowboarding. Onsen was super hot. The location meant that I had to walk down and then back up a snow covered path at night to go and get dinner. The path leads back down the hill into town so it can be pretty slippery. I didn't find it too bad but it would be ideal to not have to do that and some people really wouldn't like it. The trade off is being up the hill already in the morning to go skiing/boarding. Walk up the slippery path at night took about 10-15mins. The whole walk overall took about 20-25mins.
- William (10/5): A winter paradise. - The lodge was incredible.
First the wonderful family who run the lodge contacted me to make sure they knew what time I was arriving in Nozawaonsen, they met me off the shuttle bus with their caterpillar car to drive me up to the lodge which is at the bottom of the slopes. Right to the door of the hotel.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming and spoke brilliant English , my Japanese is really bad so this was a great help.
They told me the safest ways down I to town and made sure I understood so I was safe.
Each morning a beautiful breakfast was supplied.
The views were breathtaking and the atmosphere was very homely. I got to know other guests very well. Which was lovely as I was traveling alone.
When my last day came they made sure they knew what bus I was getting back to Iiyama station and drove me and my bags down the mountain again to the bus stop.
Couldn’t have asked for a better stay.
I really want to go back next year!
Thank you so much for my lovely stay! I can’t remember anything I wasn’t satisfied with. Maybe bigger house slippers for guests with big feet:)?
- Camille (10/5): Best stay. Felt at home. - The location is perfect as you can leave the house with your skis on.
The family is so nice and accommodating. We came with 2 kids and they made everything so easy for us.
We absolute loved this place and hope to come back for next season. The location and the amazing staff
- Ebony (8/5): Great to wake up on the slopes and snowboard straight back in at the end of the day. - Great ski in and ski out. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. They let us keep our luggage at the lodge after check out so we could spend the day on the slopes. They then dropped us to our next accomodation on the other side of town when we were finished snow boarding. The dinner was delicious. Being on the slopes is awesome but it’s a bit of a walk to town for dinner. It is a beautiful walk though! Make sure you have some snow shoes
- John (10/5): Mountain lodge with great staff and location - Ski in and out right on the mountain. Friendly staff and quaint setting. Also, breakfast is delicious and looked forward to every morning! Walking to village in snow. After Yu Road closes, you have to hike it. But it is good walk from Ogama hot spring via back road.
- Carlos (3/5): Jaded, uncomfortable, isolated and not worth the hassle. - Ski-in ski-out location but steep treacherous 20 minute walk in the snow down to any decent restaurants in the village below, followed by the same 30 minute walk back up. Rock hard beds and pillows.
Worn and stained carpets and furnishings.
Paper thin walls, resulting in noise from fellow guests, banging doors, talking and snoring.
Noise from outside.
Poor breakfast by western standards.
Limited time allowed to use shared shower facilities.
Isolated location with only one decent "foreigner" friendly restaurant. Unless your Japanese, forget it!
Apart from the shuttle to and from the hotel, no attempt to offer transportation into the village.
No real attempt to make you feel welcome.
"Give me your money/Take it or leave it" attitude of owner.
Tension between the owner, booking.com and us as a third party resulted in the worst stay we have had in the last ten years of using booking.com
Caveat emptor.
- Courtney (9/5): Superb - the rooms and facilities were clean and comfortable. breakfast Provided each day. easy acess to the chair lifts. to walk into town at night was a little far if snowing
- Ian (7/5): excellent on-snow and reasonably priced lodge run by a charming local family. - On snow location, staff, mixing with other guests, wonderfully prepared Japanese food. beds were not very comfortable, worn and dates decor.
- Anna (8/5): Very good -
- Kyle (9/5): Superb -
- Adam (9/5): Superb -
- Winston (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful location as a ski-in-ski-out property. if there is an option for a room with private bath will be nice.
- Marccarre (8/5): Very good -
