Guest Reviews
- Haifeng (10/5): - centre of the town close to everything. nice cozy hotel with nice facility and friendly staff
- William (10/5): - Svalbard Hotell -The Vault was a perfect no-frills base for my six day visit to Svalbard, including each day an activity organised by Svalbard Adventures, with pick up and return from The Vault. The front door is open 24/7, with a usually young member of staff on reception. Access to the room is by code, with a comfortable bed, a very odd TV (which seemed to show the same programmes very day), and an excellent shower. My room did not have a desk, which was awkward. The black out blinds were effective. There was a full buffet breakfast every day in the breakfast room - which became a Sushi and Noodle restaurant in the evening. I tried it on my first evening, the huge menu was surptising given that all food is imported into Svalbard. Most days, except when on the excellent 6 hour glacier cruise, I had lunch in the popular Gruene Cafe, brilliant sandwiches, and interesting people (from 42 countries) to talk to. Evenings, except for the Wilderness Evening with Reindeer Soup, at the Stationen Restaurant opposite the Kronenbourg Pub, good hamburgers. Both a few minutes walk from The Vault.
- Benjamin (10/5): - Que esta bien ubicada
- Erik von (10/5): - Sehr freundliches Personal. Super Blick aus dem Eckzimmer.
- Andre (10/5): - Sauber ruhig und typisch Skandinavisch aufgeräumt.
- Maria (10/5): - I had a fantastic stay at The Vault! The hotel is spotless, comfortable, and in an excellent location. The breakfast room was pretty small and cosy, but I had no issues finding a space, and the food was delicious! The staff were super friendly and helpful. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, thank you for a wonderful trip!
- rami reddy (10/5): - Excellent clean rooms and hotel staff are very friendly, they fulfilled all my needs
- Madeleine (10/5): Rekommenderar detta hotell - Mycket bra hotell centralt i Longyearbyen. Med trevlig och hjälpsam personal. Rent och snyggt. Fin gemensam veranda.
- Carolin (8/5): - Bra, fräscht hotell med god och välsorterad frukost. Personalen var hjälpsamma och trevliga. Låg typ i centrum
- Catarina (8/5): - Bra rum och frukost och nära till allt.
- Ashley (8/5): - Convenient spot and a comfortable room. The only real issue is the total absence of anywhere in the room to put things, except for hooks. There are so many spaces for shelves, but no, no shelves, nowhere for toothbrushes, nowhere for underclothes. A tiny shelf next to the bed with about 2 square inches of space. And instead of giving you solid tables, they give you soft ottomans, so you can stack clothes but nothing that requires a level base. That said, it's a nice clean convenient place.
- Kelly (10/5): Amazing Time - Amazing place with clean areas. Quiet. But right in the centre of the town so easy access to everything
- Lance (8/5): - Great location. Friendly staff. Rooms comfortable. Breakfast buffet was acceptable. For you to know: they only promote excursions from one company since the hotel is apparently owned by the excursion company. Go to Visit Svalbard website or local office to review all available excursion opportunities.
- john Ola (6/5): - Minimalt med plass på rommet
- Janet (8/5): - The people were very friendly. The rooms were very comfortable and quiet. I did ask for a room clean after 3 days and only the bed was made and bathroom wiped down, no clean sheets.
It would have been helpful to understand there is a way around the bridge so we didn’t have to lug 50lb bags up and down 16 steps.
The breakfast was a food safety horror show. Cold eggs, bacon, sausage, a food inspector’s nightmare. If inspected, it would be shut down.
- Keiko (10/5): - I quite like The Vault’s relaxing casual style. Interior of the room is simple but modern twist. Once you used it, feel like home. I like reception area’s free tea and coffee self service. We went out then came back hotel and bit rest at ground floor sofa, then went back shopping again (shopping area is just opposite side of road). We requested same room as our last year’s stay. They gave us that room was very appreciated. The breakfast was reasonable spreads. Centre of Longyearbyen town, very handy for shopping and sightseeing.
- Ka Yin (10/5): - Comfortable room, Convenient location, supermarket just opposite
- Christine (10/5): - The hotel was perfect... clean and quiet, walkable to the main shopping and dining area, and we had a beautiful view of the mountains. Everyone was very nice.
- YI (8/5): - Staff are welcoming and the breakfast is great.
The hotel is in the town centre. But you need to walk a bit and go through a bridge between the airport shuttle bus stop to the hotel door. (Taxi can drive to the hotel door step. )
There is a grey dust spot on my quilt cover.
- Haris (10/5): - There is nothing at all i disliked for my stay here at the Vault. I enjoyed my quietness the most. Thank you for everything ❤️
- Mary (10/5): - I have never been to a hotel where you have to take your shoes off at the door. They do provide wool slippers in your room. The local custom dates back to when the coal miners were told to take their shoes off because they were so dirty. The staff was helpful. The breakfast was good. The room was fine. I would use this hotel again
- Lene (10/5): - Koselig hotell og hyggelig betjening- sentralt og lett tilgjengelig beliggenhet.
- Alexander (10/5): - Excellent location and friendly staff…. Lovely communal area and cozy rooms.
- Eric (10/5): - Excellent service, nice and clean, good breakfast, great staff.
- Eric (10/5): - Excellent service, nice and clean, good breakfast, great staff.
- Jessica (10/5): - We had an amazing time in Svalbard Polfareren! I’ll never forget the experience. Cozy hotel, great location, yummy breakfast and staffs were friendly and accommodating. Our room was big and had the Mountain View! Shout out to Ana for providing exceptional service! Thank you for helping us all the way! Once again, what a lovely place!
- sillybird (10/5): I will stay here again if I revisit Svalbard. - This is a late review. Visited Svalbard and stayed at Svalbard Hotel The Vault for 4 nights in March 2024. I went solo so my room was a good size for me; it is a bit tight if for two persons. Accommodations in Svalbard are very few so you need to snag your place the earliest you can as prices go up according to demand.
I like this hotel — it is cozy and has the best location in town: right across the big supermarket and perhaps the only department store there. Airport pickups and drop-offs are across the street. Tours also pickup directly from outside this hotel. The lobby and rooms are very clean. At minus 17 degrees C outside, inside the room it is quite warm and they have warm and strong showers too.
This hotel has slippers inside the door which you must change into as shoes and boots must be left at the shelf beside the door. This is a custom in Svalbard inherited from the mining days.
A breakfast buffet is served every 7am. It is limited in choice and is the same every day but still it is adequate to fill you up for a day’s activities.
- Norris (10/5): - Nice place
- xamz10x (10/5): First time to svalbard - This had been on our bucket list for over a year and we watched YouTube and then we realised we could get direct flights from Manchester to here. We was over the moon and decided to book flights then we found this hotel at a perfect price for our whole stay . This had been the final place of our travels for the year reaching the highest part of the north of the world was such an experience and achievement for us.
We did all norway and Scandinavia in the summer and here was our final holiday/journey of the year. We was over the moon with the kindness of everyone in norway again making sure we arrived at oslo safely for getting to the hotel. After 20 hours of travelling from uk we arrived we came outside to see two big buses. We was confused and didn't know how to get to our hotel, we was greeted by a wonderful local who had been here for 14 years he got us safely to the hotel.
We asked him so many questions being excited to be here no question was too silly and all was answered with no hesitation. The price for getting to hotel was not bad also.
We arrived at the hotel to find a wonderful smiling helpful young man waiting for us and two other groups. He said please leave boots at door we highly adored this culture as we do this st home and also in east Europe. All questions was answered and the hotel decor was beautiful and reinvented full .it was fresh, clean and very warm which was a blessing from the cold air at night .
We was told to wear bright protection vest at night to stay safe as there is alot of cars driving around we didn't mind as was free to borrow. We was ready to drop of our things and head out to explore our home for the next few days .
The room was absolutely stunning it was freshly cleaned ,very warm and the bathroom was all brand new and extremely clean with plenty of towels. The floors was heated which I found amazing with the wet room for shower the floor dried straight away. Nothing was a proplem at the desk if we had any questions or needed any help .from the moment we arrived to every single day all the different staff was 5 star with there service, smiles and kindness. There english was absolutely amazing and that's one thing we adored just communicating with no proplem.
The breakfast was something else it was a very special spread of everything you could imagine . We was blown away with how much was available our hotel price was amazing and to see all the full English breakfast, salmon ,fruit and fresh bread was out of this world . Everything was fresh, tasty and full of flavour. Every day we enjoyed all and was spot on with no problem at all.
All staff very clean and fast at emptying our tables when finished very friendly and smiling always.
We was able to book three different trips while our stay at the hotel through the reception which was a blessing in disguise. All 5 star service and all trips was perfect to make our stay the best of seeing all what was possible in the time committed.
We adore coming back at dinner or evenings to grab a quick coffee which was free to relax with in the chairs . Was an extremely safe area and everyone in the town was very friendly ,happy and enjoyed talking to you. All spoke perfect english.
We will surely return again next year as location was perfect for bars ,restaurants and all shops needed by 5 minute walk.
Even loved to know there was a Co op and wine shop 5 minute aways with absolutely everything you could think of . On top of the world and this whole community of over 2000 people made it very special and out of this world for us.
Svalbard really touched our hearts with the kindness, the shear beauty and the people.

- XUEBIAO (8/5): - Clean Nice hotel with helpful and pleasant staff
- John (8/5): - Great place, central location, staff were kind and courteous
- helenasH8432BX (10/5): Tidy & comfy - Very clean, modern and comfortable room with robust bed and amazing views! The bathroom was nice and super clean. A very minor glitch was that there's no place to put your own shampoo bottles etc. in the shower.
Breakfast was great although the breakfast room is quite small so it got a little crowded at times.
Great staff! Highly recommended.
- Carl (10/5): - Close to activities, friendly & helpful staff, very clean.
I will return to this hotel
- James (10/5): - The people working at The Vault were very easy to talk to. Tobias and Anna were exceptional. It is centrally located to all the food and shopping options.
- Lis Elin (10/5): - Veldig koselig lite hotell, nydelig frokost, og god beliggenhet midt i byen.
- 931magdalenan (10/5): Great hotel! - I love that hotel. The room is so cosy and warm. Very clean hotel, the service is at the highest level. Breakfast very good and tasty. In room there is a set for coffee and tea and also in the corridior available stuff for that. The bathroom clean and very nice. The stay there was great!
- Margrethe (8/5): Great location, nice staff - I would recommend this hotel. They have nice and service minded staff, good breakfast, location in the middle of everything. We had a great view from the corner room.
- Janice (8/5): Longyearbyen - Close to the town centre, shuttle from the airport drops you off. If you can't manage the stais walk around the road to the main entrance
- Verified traveler (10/5): Hyggelig hotell - Rent og pent hotell. Veldig hyggelig og hjelpsomt personale. Deilig frokost. Sentralt beliggende i Longyearbyen.
- Steven (10/5): - The Vault is a great option in Longyearbyen. Rooms are comfortable and clean and new. Breakfast is excellent. And, like everything in Longyearbyen, the Vault is walking distance to everything.
- Bjørn (10/5): - Veldig bra standard. Små rom og lite andre fasiliteter, men alt en trenger. Alt i alt veldig bra.
- PennyS959 (10/5): A great place to stay in Longyearbyen - A really great place to stay. The lodge from the outside hides a lovely relaxing and friendly place to stay. The decor is typically Scandinavian with a modern twist. We had 2 reindeer outside our bedroom windows for the duration of our stay … just wonderful. The breakfast was outstanding, just everything you could want . We ate in both the hotel bar and resturant, the food was really good . Would totally recommend this hotel for your stay.
- Greg (10/5): - Great hotel location and amenities. Would highly recommend for our stay in Longyearbyen. Easy access to everything in and around town.
- Olav (8/5): Super frokost, små rom. - Frokosten var flott, med et veldig rikt utvalg. Rommene var nesten av Tokoy størrelse, det vil si for små. Ikke noe skap til å henge klær i. Vennlig betjening.
- gregw426 (10/5): Perfect location/stay in Longyearbyen. - Wonderful location, great helpful staff and rooms. Breakfast was good with variety. Beds were comfortable and rooms very clean. Would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to others or stay again. A great pick when you’re in Longyearbyen.
- Susanne (8/5): Nice staff, very good breakfast, in the center - Sehr nettes Personal, sehr gutes Frühstück. Zimmer und Bad sauber, alles Nötige vorhanden, aber das Zimmer eher klein. Gute Lage im Zentrum, dennoch ruhig; alle Geschäfte und Restaurants / Cafés im Umkreis.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice hotel in Longyearbyen, with helpful staff. In particular very kind when we ended up stranded due to a plane delay.
- Oeivind (10/5): The Vault is good value for money. - Location of hotel The Vault is perfect. Breakfast is good, but very much the same every day. The staff gives good service! I have been a guest many times, and I will come back.
- Elisa (10/5): - the staff was superking and available 24/7.
the hotel is new/well maintained.
Warm clean and quiet.
A rich breakfast is available for several hours in the am and fresh coffee and tea available all day at the reception or in your room.
The location is optimal, bang in the centre but recessed frm the main road.
I would happily go back there again
- Stein Olav (10/5): - It is a goodplade to live, nearly the aktivitet
- aaccaa (10/5): Great hotel and staff - I had the best stay here!
Friendly and helpful staff, nice & rich buffet continental breakfast, and of course great location… not that Longyearbyen is that big!
Board games available in the hotel hall, with a refreshment stand with water & hot beverages.
The hotel restaurant is nice as well (sushi/asian cuisine), and not expensive.
Really nothing bad to say, I will for sure be back at this hotel when I will travel back to Svalbard.
Thanks for the amazing time.
- Hugh (10/5): Good place to land in Longyearbyen - All the hotels in Svalbard are a little pricey, but this one is in the center of town, close to UNIS (the university center) and the shop, and it has a very nice breakfast. Best of all is the helpful and pleasant front desk people. The Vault offers dinner but didn't say anything about it when I checked in and have no obvious signs for it. Because I learned about it only when I left, I cannot judge it, though I can report that it is some kind of Asian fusion restaurant. But many restaurants are a very short walk away.
- Yuko (10/5): - In front of the town center (although there are some steps from the street). Staff is very helpful, room is clean, coffee/water service at the lobby, breakfast was also good. Very recommended.
- Higgins (10/5): Great place to stay. - This hotel was centrally located in Longyearbyen. Clean and comfortable. Very eco responsible. Great breakfast too
- Chong Wai (8/5): - New and clean. All hotels in Svalbard are much the same and pretty small. Don't like the bench seating at the breakfast place though
- georgiau784 (8/5): Excellent stay - Great stay at the hotel. Staff were helpful and rooms were clean. Food at breakfast was delicious with lots of options and the Sushi restaurant was incredible. Very convenient for any excursions and right next to the main supermarket. Would recommend!
- Dorothy (10/5): - This hotel is located right in town near all the restaurants and stores, it’s the perfect walking distance to everything. The staff was very friendly and helped book a boat trip for me and they were all very knowledgeable. The room was a perfect size for two people and the beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was very good as well.
- wildlifetrackers (10/5): 10 nights exploring Svalbard - We spent 10 nights in this hotel while exploring Svalbard for the first time. We were pleased with the location, right in the heart of Longyearbyen. The hotel is part of the pick-up routine for any activity providers, meaning they will pick you up at the door, and it's also on the bus shuttle route to and from the airport. The staff is available 24/7 and is friendly and helpful. We opted for a breakfast included, which was generous and good (buffet). The room was very nice, and we enjoyed spending more than a week here. We would be happy to stay at the Vault again if visiting Svalbard another time.
Good to know, there is a Japonese restaurant in the hotel.
- Hideki (10/5): - 値段に値するサービスと施設。安心して過ごせる。
朝食もおいしい。
日本料理店が併設されている。
- Keiko (10/5): - This hotel situated very close walking distance for Longyearbyen’s shopping centre and restaurants. Inside the hotel tiny but very good Sushi restaurant there. I’m Japanese. I’ve never tasted good like this long time. Room itself was very comfortable and well equipped. Less clothes hangers but plenty of hooks and big shelves. There were 5 windows in our room. Bit struggled to close rolling blackout screens. TV control was little complicated but gradually found out how to operate. The room was very clean and room slippers were great.
- wingkateresaf (2/5): You need a VERY flexible plan and interesting customer service - We have booked our trip for April this year. However, due to the unforeseeable circumstances of the volcano eruption from Indonesia late last week, our flight was cancelled by the airline. And it was two days prior to our arrival. Therefore, we have no choice but to contact the hotel immediately and re-arrange our trip to Svalbard. Qatar airline was amazing! And they have successfully adjourned our booking to October this year (with minimal charges incurred only). However, we were a little disappointed with the Vault’s arrangement.
We have immediately contacted the vault when this happened via phone, and the gentleman was extremely helpful and say this is duly noted, however advised us to email the hotel inform the situation and hopefully, we might be able to make an arrangement and delay our booking in October.
So, we did so, we have sent numerous email to few email address, including the sales team person that we have contacted all these while.
And guess what, at first, they’ve said they have not received the email. (Which I have proof that we have tried our upmost effort to inform the hotel with the situation) And second, advise us to claim from the travel company and due to non-received of email, and the person we spoke to, do not work in the weekend? (Our booking originally was from Sunday to Wednesday) Basically, that’s our sole problem. Worse, if we would liked to book in October, we can pay the FULL package amount again.
Thank you the vault, but I do expect better than this.
- Cecilie (10/5): God service - Veldig god service og plassering! Tipp topp. Hyggelige og behjelpelige personell i resepsjonen
- Hans (10/5): - Everything was great except they ran out of some food items for breakfast a couple of mornings
- Maria (10/5): Lovely stay - We really enjoyed our stay. Comfy beds, central location, good views, and fantastic staff in the reception.
- Kari (10/5): Helt topp. - Helt topp! Kommer tilbake.
- Monika (10/5): - Such a great location. The restaurant in the hotel is also particularly good!
- Patrick (10/5): - The Vault is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. Cosy and warm, clean and fresh - I absolutely loved it. I will stay again no problem at all !
- Vacation32839802682 (10/5): Comfy hotel after long day of expeditions - Our room at the Vault was extremely clean and comfortable. The beds were a nice reprieve after a long day of expeditions in the the area. The main pedestrian area of Longyearbyen is at most a 5 minute walk away. The staff is friendly and helpful and the breakfast selections were decent.
- Siu Pang Raymond (10/5): Nice Location - The location are really good for get stuff if you need.
- luckynonine (8/5): Friendly staff and cozy rooms - Nice clean rooms and a cozy atmosphere. Location was excellent, because the supermarket and all other main attractions in the city were just around the corner. The staff was extremely helpful and nice! My room was warm and quiet. The only drawback for me was that the table in the room was too small and I had no place to put my stuff.
- Cynthia (10/5): - Excellent stay when visiting Svalbard. Directly across from main shopping and eating. Wonderful, friendly and helpful staff. Great breakfast and great option for dinner
- Carolyn (10/5): - Cute hotel with access to local sights. My flight out got canceled, and they were very accommodating. Had a great stay here.
- Marjorie (10/5): - Quiet, clean, great location
- Naomi (10/5): Ideal base & a reasonable price - Clean, comfortable, centre of town , delicious breakfast, reception staff very good, everything you need from a hotel & it also has an excellent Japanese restaurant in it - Nuga Sushi
- Susan (10/5): - The Vault is situated in a convenient part of Longyearbyen. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff were very helpful and courteous. We would definitely stay here again.
- Sven (8/5): - A nice and quiet hotel with the essential services. Like most other hotels in town The Vault is near the center. Staff is courteous and helpful. The hotel has a No-Shoes policy.
- Verified traveler (8/5): In town Svalbard - Centrally located and easy to enjoy all the sites in town and nearby.
- helenj505 (10/5): Beautiful - Great hotel!
Perfectly located for all the activity and landscape in Longyearbyen. Fabulous room with such a comfy bed, which was much needed after all the snow activities. Lovely staff, very helpful and kind. Beautiful view of the polar days from my bedroom window. What a sight to wake up to! Breakfast was lovely, good variety of food on offer and friendly atmosphere.
The only thing I found a struggle was crossing the little bridge with steps to the hotel - my suitcase was heavy and the snow was deep so it was tough.
I would stay again :)
- michel635 (10/5): Just wonderful - Very nice staff. A wonderful retreat with a good warm shower that is very relaxing after a day in the Arctic air. The hotel has a cozy breakfast room with fresh fruit, smoothies, and, I believe, fresh salmon. The hotel also sells souvenirs, which I thought were very nice.
- Robert (8/5): - Good place to stay for work for a couple of nights. Breakfast was good, not too far to walk into town for an evening meal.
- Kevin (10/5): - Great location, quiet, great breakfast
- Carol Ann (8/5): - I had a real problem with the lighting in the room. It was harsh and di
- Ramesh (10/5): - Good breakfast. Friendly staff.
- JJW1169 (10/5): The most welcoming hotel in Longyearbyen - My husband and I stayed at the Svalbard Hotell/The Vault for five nights. The Vault is conveniently located across the street from the supermarket, restaurants and shops. Our room was comfortable with a bed, two plush chairs and a small table. The breakfast buffet was in the hotel’s only restaurant which transforms into a sushi bar in the evening. The front desk staff was knowledgable and helpful regarding tours, restaurant recommendations and general information about Longyearbyen. It was our first visit to Svalbard, and we would like to thank the Vault staff, especially Isabella, Christina and Robin, for their hospitality.
- Bill (10/5): great place - great location and accomodations. Staff really makes this place special. Andrew (I hope I have that name right) is a treasure at the front desk.
- Dawn (10/5): - I’d expected to spend two days, but the SAS strike kept me in Longyearbyen for a week. The Vault employees were sympathetic and worked hard to accommodate my needs and suggest ways to better enjoy my Svalbard experience. And I did! Excellent hotel with helpful, friendly people.
- Kristjan (10/5): - Amazing spot with fantastic staff. Couldn’t be in a better area for access to shops and museums
- Haiyan (10/5): - It is very clean.staff are friendly, convenient location.breakfast is so good
- nathan (10/5): - Great front desk. Clean rooms. Amazing breakfast.
- nathan (10/5): - Awesome place to stay. Clean, great front desk, and outstanding breakfast.
- Pedro (10/5): - Friendly staff were very helpful, namely getting attraction and taxi bookings.
- Karen (8/5): - The hotel was comfortable and well located. However, there was no shelving to put your things in the room. I fly from Australia which is a very long flight and arrived at the hotel very tired. The room wasn't ready which is understandable and I had to wait 2.5hrs to get to my room. I asked the girl on reception if there was anywhere for guests to wait and were they coffee / tea facilities. She said no - we don't have any coffee for guests - it is on order. Later in my room I washed my hair and the hair dryer started billowing smoke and had a fire smell. I immediately unplugged it. I told reception - same girl - and it was removed the next day. I then asked if it could be replaced and told by the same girl on reception - Oh we don't have another one - we will have to order one!!!! I could not dry my hair for 3 days!!!! I ended up with a very bad cold. The accommodation was expensive so I think a hairdryer could have been sourced from somewhere - the supermarket had hairdryers!!!!!!!
- Manette (10/5): - A simple, elegant, distinctively Scandinavian vibe with the most convenient location imaginable, super-comfortable beds, very clean rooms and baths, and a fantastic and generous Norwegian breakfast!
- Peter (8/5): - I was upgraded to the Svalbard Hotell Polfareren so my review is for this hotel. The hotel staff were nice but i didn't feel the same warmth of the staff as what I experienced at the Mary-Ann's Polarrigg the previous four nights. That should be a surprise for any guest considering this hotel costs $150 USD more a night. I was given a room across the street in an older building. The Orbitz website says there was an elevator but there was only a service elevator which was a turn off due to the heavy luggage that i was carrying. The view from my room was outstanding. The breakfasts didn't have much of a variety compared to the Mary-Ann's Polarrigg (which was a surprise). When I return to Svalbard, I will not stay here again. it was an ok hotel or a 6/10 rating.
- Jon (10/5): Very good hotel in Svalbard - Great location in the middle of town. Helpful staff and very clean tidy rooms. Great breakfast too!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place to stay when visiting Longyearbyen - very central (walk to supermarket and restaurants in minutes), rooms well equipped, and live aurora forcast on room TVs....very handy indeed!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay within town centre - It was a very pleasant stay at the hotel. The staff are friendly and the location is accessible within the town centre. The breakfast spread is awesome too
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great room; Eco-friendly hotel; great breakfast; walkable to "downtown"
- Diana (8/5): - Very helpful front desk staff. Fabulous sushi restaurant on first floor.
Rooms are small/ tight on space. Clean and nicely decorated.
