Guest Reviews
- Stefan (10/5): Perfecte accomodatie vlakbij Winetram - Very clean and comfortable appartments. Pinky was very kind and wellcomed us very friendly. Very close to Winetram Franschoek Niets. Perfecte accomodatie
- Huggett (9/5): -
- Daphne (7/5): Fijne cottage! - Fijne locatie en alles wat we nodig hadden! Zwembad was wat klein maar ook te koud (ligt ook aan de tijd van het jaar!).
- Moira (9/5): An ideal holiday stay! - Great location and very comfortable cottage with all your needs cared for. Pinky and her team really look after the place very well. And you are right in the heart of the Franschhoek village. Absolutely ideal!
- Lauren (9/5): Good - Cosy and clean Nothing
- Ben (1/5): Rudest property owner I’ve ever encountered & a clearly substandard property. - I disliked everything about the experience. Unacceptable management and a property that is simply not as advertised.
We arrived to multiple issues, some openly acknowledged on arrival. As we walked in, we were told the fridge had been turned off because it was not working properly & was too loud to run if you actually wanted to sleep. The WiFi was effectively unusable (around 3 mbps), the shower did not drain correctly & there was visible mould in the bathroom. There were also exposed nails at head height from what had clearly been a previous incident, left unfixed and posing a real safety hazard. These are basic issues that should have been resolved long before any guest arrived.
We simply tried to resolve everything directly & reasonably with the property. The on-site staff member was polite but clearly limited in what she could do, and recommended we contact management. Their response was dismissive, effectively denying the issues despite some already being acknowledged.
The situation escalated when the owner, who had not been involved previously, accidentally sent us a message intended for Booking.com (with whom we'd made no complaint then). Rather than address the issues, it dismissed them, suggested we were acting in bad faith & included a completely baseless, highly inappropriate accusation about my behaviour. This was an unacceptable way to handle a legitimate complaint & appeared to be an attempt to discredit us rather than take any responsibility. This has since been formally raised with Booking.com, however the matter remains unresolved, with the owner failing/refusing to engage despite multiple attempts to resolve the situation.
At that point, any trust in the host was gone. This is not simply a case of a property needing maintenance, it reflects a broader failure in how it is managed. Legitimate concerns were denied, basic issues left unresolved & communication from the owner only made the situation worse.
- Tindall (9/5): -
- Ira (7/5): - The position right across the road from the tram stop was fantastic as was the close distance to all shops and restaurants We had the downstairs unit which was a bit dark as there was a big terrace above it. There was no privacy in the garden which was shared by all units.
- Eva (9/5): Great base for a family to explore the Franschoek area - Great location within easy walk to restaurants and shops. Parking on private drive. Our 2 bedroom apartment felt wonderfully spacious after a week of sharing hotel rooms with our teenage daughter, so that was a bonus!
We didn't use the outside pool area at all as the pool was situated right in front of another apartment so felt like we were in their space, but it didnt matter to us as we spent most of the day out exploring and it was a bit chilly at night to sit outside.
- Sulaiman (10/5): -
- L (8/5): Lot's of space in the center of Franschhoek - Located in the center of Franschhoek. We arrived early which was not a problem. I didn't really check what I booked just separate beds. Turns out there we 2 bed rooms, separate toilets, big kitchen and dinner / living room. No complaints
- Brian (8/5): -
- Leigh (7/5): -
- DonnaAbz72 (9/5): - Great location for the tram and for walking to restaurants etc.
Hosts very friendly Just a little dated
Pool needs updated and tidied. But still a pleasant addition
- Arnie (1/5): Very very bad - The pictures of the accommodation have nothing to do with the realty. It’s dirty, it’s outdated and a terrible place Paint is coming off, 2 fridges in a very outdated kitchenette, it looks like a cave. We asked the staff to at least remove the garbage bags and wash the outside cushions. There is zero privacy in cottage 2. And the pool is in front of your cottage. Do people that use the communal pool are swimming in front of your terras! It’s a big big disappointment
- Casey (9/5): Lovely friendly and comfortable - Lovely little property, very cosy has everything you need! Great location for the wine tram and supermarket within 100m walking distance
- Thea (9/5): Lovely Stay🌿 - The guesthouse is close to the wine Tram station!
- Lace (6/5): -
- Samantha (5/5): -
- Gwendoline (10/5): Fabulous location and beautiful residence. - Fabulous location and beautiful residence. Even with only one bathroom, it was fine with 4 adults as there are 2 toilets. Pinky the house keeper was very friendly. Only very small issues such as providing extra bin liners, another bath mat and as there is no dryer, providing some pegs to use on the clothes line.
- Lynn (7/5): Pleasant stay but needs an update. - Location, size of room, good air con and wifi. Great size balcony which gets the sun. Very comfortable large bed. Self catering but did not supply sweeping brush, mop and bucket, cleaning products. The room could do with an update. Outside needs jet washing. Trees need pruning. One over our balcony produced sap which left everywhere sticky.
- Timo (8/5): Hyvällä sijainnilla oleva pieni huoneisto - Toimiva pieni huoneisto. Hyvä sänky. Reilun kokoinen suihku. Sähköpistokkeet olivat erinomaiset ladattaville sähkölaitteille.
Joustava ystävällinen henkilökunta. Oma pieni ruokailupöytä ulkona.
Sijainti oli hyvä ja Pick and Pay pääkadun toisella puolella. Piha-alue on huonosti siivottu. Puutarhakasvit huonosti hoidettu. Asiakas puhdisti itse pienen uima-altaan. Nämä hyvin hoidettuna parantaisivat viihtyvyyttä pia-alueella.
- Steenkamp (8/5): It was excellent. - It was clean and everything was working. It was nice staying here. Nothing
- Pieter (9/5): -
- Charles (9/5): - Staff very helpful and welcoming.
Close to Franschhoek centre, attractions and restaurants.
Power backup was a big benefit as the nearby veld fires had taken out the power to the Franschhoek area.
- Michael (8/5): Very quiet and relaxing - Breakfast was not included The inverter was very noisy
- Isabella (8/5): Lovely stay, very central and so beautiful. I will be back - Very central and clean No iron for clothes
- susan (6/5): - They had the garbage bags under the stairs, terrible smell
- Agnieszka (9/5): Great value, comfortable stay - Great location, clean, safe and comfortable Only point to improve is lack of aircon in the smaller room
- Robert (9/5): - Central and a great option for a big family
- Sally (2/5): - The one plus point was the location - near to the wine tram and great cafés and restaurants. Very tired, cluttered and a jumble of furniture.
Outside facilities old, dirty and a pool area which was untidy and unpleasant.
Three old fridges in the room, one so noisy we had to turn it off, a plug in old stove and cupboards broken. No draining board and I could go on.
No welcome items which have been si welcome elsewhere: milk, shampoo etc
We would not recommend
- james (9/5): - Staff were very helpful. The venue was great. Shame that the outdoor pool was so cold. Everything worked well. Nothing
- Cloete (8/5): Will definitely come back here for next year's Bastille Festival - Friendly reception
Heater was already on
Great linen
Great shower
Full bouqet of DStv channels
Easy walking distance to town centre No bottled water
No dry rack for dishes
- Anthony (2/5): Over priced for old place! Never again - The location was good The property was dirty and dated
Was holes in sheets, broken bed and filthy towels with black marks and mould on
- Ross (10/5): Perfect location and the ideal cottage for a short or longer stay - Location was perfect for wine tasting. Less than a minute to walk to the tram terminal. Close to the local shops.
- Ohlson (8/5): Pleasurable and memorable stay! - Pinkie was an absolute joy as we were welcomed. Made us feel secure and that we made the right choice in choosing Laurel Cottage. It is well located 300m away from the tram or bus pick up as well as 2 minute walk to pick n pay. Booking.com said it was fully booked on the web, but we were the only couple on the premises. We would have loved our friends to stay with us!
- Sally (7/5): A nice stay for a couple of days - Located right by the wine tram and is easy walking distance from the shops along the high street The pool was tiny, very very cold and shared with other cottages. Whilst no one was there at the same time so it didnt matter to us i didnt think the listing made that clear that it was shared.
- Ema (4/5): Would not stay again. - Staff were very nice and helpful. Great location, easy to access town. Enough space. The bed were terribly uncomfortable. I actually slept on the couch instead of in the bed both nights. The bathrooms were lacking shampoo and conditioner and the kitchen seems a little sparse for utensils.
- Scharl (8/5): Very good -
- Clair (9/5): Great location, lovely hosts. - Great location, comfortable space. Pinky was lovely and really helpful sorting an early check in for us. Some elements of the property could do with an upgrade but it didn’t impact our stay.
- Leah (8/5): Right next to the wine tram! - Great location at the end of the Main Street and next to the wine tram. Comfortable room.
- Elizabeth (7/5): Good - Accommodation was well situated for access to the town and the wine tram. The near by main road was a little noisy. We felt the area around the shared plunge pool and the entrance to our accommodation a bit neglected.
We found here in the middle of the wine region it a little amazing that there wasn’t a corkscrew with the basic cutlery.
- Gabriella (6/5): Pleasant - Clean linen and comfy king sized bed with air conditioning in main bedroom makes for a nights good sleep. While the location is great and within walking distance from coffee shops and bars, it is very close to the main road with high traffic volume and noise.
Outside space is also shared with other units and not private.
- John (10/5): Clean, comfy and well located. - Clean, comfy and well located. Wonderful hosts. Would stay again. -
- Twan (7/5): Good - Good location Bit worn out here and there. No too worrying yet
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bridget (9/5): Very friendly staff, great location and nice outside area! - The property was very central to the town and the wine tram. It was clean and tidy!
- Ailidh (10/5): Great accommodation and location - Lovely accommodation, very clean and spacious. Great location, right across the street from the wine tram and 10 min walk from the main street in Franschoek with restaurants, cafes etc.
Only one note, it wasn't obvious (to us) from the description that the pool was shared. Not a complaint as I say we loved our stay but think that could have been more clear.
- Colin (5/5): Sorry, one property we won’t return to. - Near the wine tram. Friendly cleaning and reception staff. Dated apartment, only one fridge (2 fridges + a freezer) useable due to noise. Trees overgrown, windy nights bang on the roof above the bed window. Expensive considering condition and facilities.
- Andiswa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Claudine (10/5): Excellent location, value for money, fantastic staff making a stay to remember - Location and security was ideal for a group of ladies.
Staff taking care of us, specifically Norman who was so helpful transporting us promptly and safely around Franshoek was amazing. It has everything one needs for a stay. Pinky is just lovely Could not fault anything
- Paul (10/5): Our stay was great, we extended it to five from a three night booking. The hosts were exquisite, nicest people we’ve met - The location, and the comfort. I wouldn’t stay in shared outside space accommodation again. Shared plunge pool smack outside our room.
- Jo-ann (9/5): Wonderful - Perfect location and very comfortable! Nothing to dislike
- Refilwe (8/5): Value for money, convenient, spacious. - The host was very professional and helpful. She communicated with us before our stay.
The location was perfect. It was a walking distance to the shops, restaurants, and the Franschoek Tram.
The house had everything we needed and more, including a pool. Not much, the decor could do with an update.
I'd still recommend it.
- Damian (8/5): Very good -
- Chené (9/5): Superb -
- Terry (10/5): Perfect positioning for the wine tram, and a wonderful helpful host. - The owner was extemely helpful and understanding in all ways.
- Grant (9/5): Very pleasant - Absolutley stunning little place. Close to town and check was so easy with Norman and Pinky. The place in clean and has nice outdoor area and pool The only minor problem is the lock on the inside of the entry door to the property which other guests locked at night so we could not get back in, just needs to be taken away as the door has a lock in any event.
- Jonathan (9/5): Nothing to wine about at Laurel Cottage … see what I did there - Great location and it’s an easy walk up the road to get something to eat. Very
Comfortable bed and loads of space
In the room. There wasn’t anything we didn’t like.
- Louise (10/5): Pretty, comfortable cottage close to the essentials - The cottage is lovely. It’s clean, comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed. It’s close to good restaurants, supermarkets, a few wine farms and the Wine Tram. We were welcomed warmly by Pinky and Norman
- Romana (8/5): Pleasant studio with all you need and a pool as plus - Pool just in front of the apartment (amazing during hot day), spacious studio with all we needed (fridge, stove, kettle, table..). Great location just across the street from the Wine tram terminal and supermarket. Nothing major, just a bit dark as no direct light even from windows so we needed to turn on lights even during the day.
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
- Manisha (9/5): Superb -
- Daniela (8/5): Great stay for a night or two. Close to winetram and shops. Norman and Pinky were amazing hosts. Affordable for what you - Norman and Pinky are great! Very welcoming and helpful and made contact to ensure we arrived and were aware of times etc. The pool was a nice treat to have and there was lots of fridge space and functional spaces. There were guidebooks and all the information needed. The bed was comfortable and everything was clean and tidy. Very close to the wine tram and a supermarket. The inverter and electricity boxes were exposed and shon extremely bright green lights all night which we had to try cover up with towels and clothes so we could sleep. Ideally this should be hidden in a cupboard or box. The towel warmer in the bathroom was giving electric shocks and I am not sure how the inverter works but there was flickering of lights. Some electrical checks are probably needed. I few extra touches would be nice such as sponges to wash dishes, a small welcome milk bottle incase guests arrive late, welcome bottle of wine or card to welcome guests.
- Jan-erik (9/5): Great stay - We enjoyed our stay! Apartment with everything you need, clean, comfortable, large living room and kitchen, nice little patio in the back. Perfect location in Franschhoek. Contact was very nice and helpful. Interior is maybe a little outdated, but I guess that is personal opinion, and no problem.
- Luis (6/5): Pleasant -
- Sherry (9/5): Highly Recommended- but ask about upcoming repairs/maintenance in 2024. - A charming. comfortable, fully developed, apartment on a relatively quiet street, within just a few minutes walking to the center of the village. There is a large shared yard in the rear with a private table and even a braai for grilling. The fully equipped kitchen had a dish washer and clothes washing machine. There were clothes drying lines in the yard. A good shower and large (too hard) bed. There was scheduled maintenance to the electrical system that required our absence from the apartment for several hours. The work, however, helped with electricity during load shedding outages. That equipment, was noisy during the night though. It appeared that roof repairs will be upcoming soon. Hopefully, that work will be scheduled while the apartment is not occupied. There was no one readily available to welcome us, and we had to call the owner to arrange access. It was an expensive place to stay.
- Rosemary (8/5): Very good -
- Vivian (6/5): PLEASANT/HELPFUL STAFF/TOO FAR FROM CENTRE -
- Heynes (8/5): Great family werkend - Location great. Cleanliness great. Inverter noises not good. Very suitable for family trip Inverter noise
- M___h (9/5): Nice accommodation - A great option for accommodation in Franschhoek. The accommodation is in a great location, close to shops and the wine tramway station.
- Brian (8/5): Enjoyed our stay & would stay here again. - Very good location.
Room spacious & comfortable with good bed.
Good TV channels.
Nice balcony. Intermittent noise from electrical box.
Entrance door at bottom needs slight repairs & painting.
- Kathrin (9/5): Superb -
- Lucy (5/5): Great location but disappointing accommodation - Pinky and Tania were really helpful and friendly. We met Pinky who cleaned the room very well and offered to do some laundry for us. Great location for exploring Franschoek. The room in general is quite tired in appearance. There was a lot of food stains on the wall behind the hob. The walls had been repainted in areas not with the same or matching colours. Some kitchen drawers had food debris in them and not all utensils were clean. The bathroom smelt of mould as did the wardrobe (due to this we didn’t place clothing in it, would have been good to as we were there for 5 nights). The bathroom had mould / damp patches on the ceiling. No air conditioning but there is a large fan. Pool area / garden in general not the nicest area to sit out in, needs maintenance. Sadly we didn’t feel the pictures were representative of the room and garden area.
- Natasha (7/5): Good -
- Adriaan (7/5): Good -
- Carol (8/5): Very good -
- Monlee (7/5): Couple getaway - Walking distance from everything, the bed was comfy Pinky were very friendly 10/10 for her. The place overall 7/10 -There is no air conditioning, which is a problem especially during hot days, we stayed 3 nights buts the towels were not replaced. For the price per night you would want new towels in atleast a 3 night stay, Bathroom need a bit tlc, roof is mouldy and cracks on the walls, little milks would also be appreciate to drink with your coffee. Maybe just make sure the pool is always clean.
- Stiaan (7/5): Good - Location
- Craig (9/5): Would definitely book laurel cottage again, a gem in Franschhoek - Little pool was brilliant on hot days. We actually had 2 parts of the cottage which made the space huge which was great. Only issue is there was no air conditioning in the smaller part of the cottage or in the twin bedroom. However they do provide fans.
- Jaco (10/5): Value for money - - the location of the house is close to everything
- the bathroom and shower was amazing
- the room is good size, and the whole layout of the house is amazing None
- Melissa (9/5): Superb - Super location, Pinky, Norman & Natashja were wonderful hosts. We had the best time and had tips and advice which was a great help.
Will defo be back.
- Ian (8/5): Very good - Very convenient location
- Helen (9/5): Superb -
- Eugene (8/5): Despite these considerations, if these factors are not critical to your stay, Laurel Cottage in Franschhoek remains an a - Title: Charming Stay in Franschhoek with Minor Considerations
My recent stay at Laurel Cottage in Franschhoek was a charming experience. The proximity to local shops within walking distance enhanced the overall convenience. However, it's worth noting a few areas that could be improved. The kitchen lacked essential utensils and pots, making cooking a bit challenging. Additionally, the absence of a broom and vacuum cleaner made it difficult to keep the floors clean.
Moreover, the air conditioning in the living area struggled to cool the room effectively, and the second room lacked air conditioning altogether. Some maintenance both inside and outside the unit would further enhance the overall experience.
- Valerie (8/5): Very good -
- Nomakhaya (9/5): The place was superb - The place is very convinient.... It's in town you do not really need a car
- Robert (9/5): Superb -
- Michelle (10/5): Spectacular - It was extremely close to the wine tram and the main road
- Terri (7/5): Inexpensive, clean and in good location. Courteous attendance - Excellent location Quite old fashioned decor
- Noboza (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hayley (7/5): Good -
- Lillian (6/5): Pleasant -
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michelle (8/5): Very good -
- Peter (6/5): Pleasant - Great location and facilities Dated interior , poor wifi , shower had mould on the ceiling
- Philippa (7/5): nice spot , but very expensive for a place that is so unkept - it was a good location it seriously needs renovation , terrible mold, paint peeling etc
- Du (8/5): Very good -
- Svenja (3/5): Disappointing - Mould in the bathroom, grease stains on the kitchen walls, photos didn’t match reality
