Guest Reviews
- Ryan (4/5): - They weren't even aware I had a room booked, took 20min to get let in by another guest with no staff present
- Mark (2/5): - There was no internet
The door knob to my room never worked, let alone locked
I had to deal with another new guest pounding on the door at 2am ....
Anna did her job with breakfast but otherwise it was a disaster. Nice town but stay somewhere else!
- Kathy (4/5): - We ended up not staying at this property. Per written instructions, we couldn't check in before 4 PM. We arrived at 4:15 PM. While we could access the building via a door code, there was no one inside, but the kitchen light was on, and someone had definitely been there. It was creepy. There was no vehicle in the driveway. We checked all the upstairs bedroom doors. All were locked. I called the contact number & spoke to the woman who apparently owns the property. I explained the situation. She was unable to give me an answer, though she was willing to charge me. I explained we had a place we needed to be & couldn't wait for whoever was supposed to be there to unlock doors. We waited a few more minutes. No one came, so I left her a message that since we were unable to check in, we were not staying & I expected NOT to be charged.
The property was somewhat run down on the outside. There is no paved driveway. It's an old house on a busy street. What we could see of the inside had been painted & updated. While it looks like the picture on Expedia's website, it's a property that needs exterior work.
This is clearly a case where the property owner is using the place for an income stream, but she is likely not living locally. The contact number is a Connecticut phone #, but she may not be living in CT.
We were VERY disappointed with the property & the contact person. At this point it appears I have not been charged, which is what I expected! I would not recommend this B & B.
- Emil (2/5): - The property owner never returned my call to get the access code to the front door from 5 days prior to my visit and only after I got Expedia to call her did I get a text from her saying she told Expedia that her place was vandalized and was closed for the summer. When I texted her back WHY SHE NEVER RESPONDED TO MY CALL but instead left me hanging I got no text response back. And Expedia is to blame too if her listing REMAINS UP
- David (10/5): - This was a first for me, I had never stayed in a B&B before. The breakfast was great. I did like you had an option of the room with a bathroom and one without. I’m glad we picked the one with because on the second night someone was in the other room and they were noisy and dropping a lot of items on the floor and shutting the door loudly. I will not score this B&B low because it’s not their fault. This is a lovely place if you like B&B. Thanks for the experience.
- Andy (8/5): - Friendly owner
- Wendy (10/5): - Jeremy was a fantastic cook and very friendly. The inn is very cute and the view from the yard is beautiful.
- Meril (8/5): - It was a nice overnight stay
- Jeffrey (8/5): - As you can see, this is someone’s house so one must accept their decor and amenities. I was comfortable after adjusting and more- so after meeting the caretaker, Jay, who was friendly, pleasant, and informative. The structure has been there for some time and could use a good remodel but nothing was rickety and the staircase and railings were solid. The bathrooms were clean and stocked, one modern and one “classic.” There was good space in the fridge and some space in the freezer. It is not a “smooth” transition into someone else’s home but give it some time and you’ll adjust. Sorry I didn’t take photos but the ones I saw online were pretty accurate. My wife wanted to go to a motel/hotel but she stayed grudgingly. We are not yet accustomed to the B&B experience.
- Leon (10/5): Nice stay - Calais Crossing B&B is a nice little place to spend the night. We met a lovely woman from Boston at breakfast… And breakfast was very very nice. Comfortable bed and nice atmosphere. It is a little difficult to get ahold of people here… And that would be my only suggestion. I have somebody who can answer the phone… And answer questions more promptly. That said… We did get all the information we needed, and our stay was easy.
- Chris (10/5): - A great place for our stay as we worked our way through Calais. Very quiet and comfortable. Thanks for a great experience!
- Chris (2/5): - Place was sketchy
Didn’t end up staying there
- Betsy (10/5): - Delightful spot in downtown Calais; friendly owner and chef.
Bed was very comfy, bathroom was small but manageable.
Very cute garden and river view.
- Herbert (10/5): - It was a nice location for visit to Moosehorn NWR
We were therefor hours!
The house is in great condition and we were comfortable. Breakfast was delicious.
Travel advice was helpful.
- Christopher (10/5): - Very cute property and gracious and charming host. Breakfast was lovely.
- John (10/5): - Friendly, welcoming host. Rooms nicely appointed. Great breakfast.
- Marsha (8/5): - An old home but comfortable. The host was accommodating and friendly. Breakfast was very good. Road construction took away from ambiance. Easy walk to the downtown but not much going on
- Helen (10/5): - The property is charming and nicely updated
- Mary (4/5): - As much as I’d like to be more positive, this place was a disappointment. The bed was so saggy that both of us rolled to the middle. The place is musty and probably needs the carpets removed. And with basic things like a bedside table or an outlet anywhere near the bed, it’s just not an easy place to stay. Add to that a shared bathroom and I cannot believe that I paid $156.
- Herbert (10/5): - This is a quality B&B. The friendly innkeeper does a wonderful job. There was a mixup with the bill that probably was experians fault.
- Bernhard (6/5): - Despite other’s excellent ratings, I cannot fully agree. Recognizing that it is bed & breakfast, the room was furnished like an antiquities flea market. It also felt like being treated by a stern boarding school task master: strictly no food in the room, towels into the hamper, breakfast at 8 am sharp. And a small, free-standing bathtub will all-enveloping shower curtain: you had to watch out carefully not to lose balance when showering - nothing to hold on to 😅. Strange place from very yesteryear. The housekeeper was nice, though, and did her best with the breakfast.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Very convenient and practical for overnighting when crossing Canadian border
- Verified traveler (10/5): - All of our expectations were surpassed! The breakfasts were filling and delicious ! The bed was very comfortable!!
