- Josh (10/5): Very cozy and comfortable stay, we will be back! - Great location, great room, wonderful staff! No on-site parking
- Jon (9/5): Great hotel in the heart of downtown Rekkers!! - Location location location!! Very helpful staff. No breakfast but not a deal breaker given the amount of cafes around the area.
- Kitti (10/5): - Good location. Great staff. Clean and comfortable.
- Stacey (9/5): Loved it, would 100% stay again, would recommend this hotel - When I got there I had been upgraded which was lovely, the room was very spaceous with a lovely view of the Hallgrimskirkja and a lovely bath and shower. The shower was very modern, really hot and had a lot of power to it, in a lot of hotels. There is no breakfast on site, which others may not like, you have to go down the road and they work with a bakery where you get 10% off. I was out early each day so I wasnt bothered, I tried various bakeries which gave me more options. In the room there was a little fridge for me to keep milk in and some water so I didnt need anything else, long as I had my morning coffee while getting ready. The hotel isnt big, its a small reception area but you dont need anything else, The staff were very helpful and pleasant and accommodated every need I had and the hotel was in a great location. It was really clean and the bed was fantastic, after long excursions through the day it was so nice to come back and have a really nice bed to sleep in. I didnt find it noisy at all, right in the heart of it. I liked everything the only thing I would say was it was difficult to find as no sign to say Ion Hotel so I walked passed it at first. The name of the hotel was in the bottom of the window which was difficult to see. Once you knew where it was it wasnt a problem but to initially find it, it was difficult.

- Sera (8/5): Comfortable stay with a great location. - Excellent location. Lots of shelves and storage / clothes hangers for your stuff, which is needed when you’re bringing a lot of jumpers/coats etc for the winter weather! Staff were friendly and helpful. Really nice sheets and comfortable bed. Shower was great. Large safe. Hotel room was missing some basics we would have expected at this price point for example, no tissue box / shower cap, and toilet paper was very poor quality. A kettle and teapot was provided but no tea bags or milk, so we bought our own from the grocery store. These are small changes but could make the stay much better for guests.

- piovesana (6/5): It did the job - Location Very basic and small room
- Kyle (9/5): Nice, recommend! - Good location, good value for money. Nothing
- Magyari (10/5): Ha legközelebb mennék, akkor csak ide foglalok szobát - Minden rendben volt Nem volt ilyen
- Karen (8/5): Convenient and comfy stay on the Main Street - Location was central to everything you’d want to do in downtown Reykjavik. Staff offered complimentary sparkling wine upon arrival! Thanks, Virginia! Very comfortable bed and amazing shower to warm up in after cold days of travel and touring. There’s a limited free mini bar, but it only has beer and soda.Would love to have been able to buy a bottle of wine from the attached restaurant or get drinks to go back to our room. Maybe it’s an Iceland thing though, as we
learned that you can only buy wine at “wine shoppes”
and they all close early (like at 6pm)

- Kate (10/5): Super friendly and helpful receptionist, great location, rooms gorgeous and clean - The hotel was in a perfect location. Rooms amazing and the gorgeous Spanish receptionist was sooooo helpful. She was just brilliant. We couldn’t figure out the lights in the rooms….it was like a comedy sketch every time we tried to put them on!
- Virginia (5/5): - Ottima posizione, hotel carino. Un po’ trasandato, poco curato. Pulizia potrebbe essere meglio
- Pownall (9/5): - The staff were really friendly and helpful, the room was good, the window seat was amazing and the shower was a big rainfall one which I love. No complaints, the hotel was good.

- Ladina Melissa (10/5): Perfect - Everything. The bathrooms are beautiful and the rooms really big and modern! Loved that the minibar was complimentary as well. Breakfeast is at a café down the street so you havr to go out to get it...
- Clas (8/5): Except for the exceptional service by Virginia an acceptable stay. - The front desk receptionist Virginia was the only real reason to go back to this hotel. She was fantastic. Very happy and upbeat, fast to meet every request and seemed to sincerely enjoy her job. That is something that has become sadly rare in the hotel industry over the past few years. I would go back to this hotel solely based on her service. The hotel was simply functional.
- Cheng (10/5): - Great location, near all restaurants and shops
The room was superb and clean.
Parking wasn’t ideal at all, we had to park 5-10 mins away.
- Tammie (8/5): - City hotel, street noise, but no restaurant, room service or hotel bar or lounge. Interesting neighborhood and nice room.

- Matt (8/5): - Beautiful setting. Smell from power plant not great
- Heather (10/5): Enjoyed our overnight in Reykajavik at this hotel and the restaurant next door is excellent! - The location was perfect for walking and enjoying local sites and restaurants. We arrived prior to check in time, stored our luggage, and went out for the afternoon. They sent a text when the room was ready, which ended up being earlier than anticipated, which was great! If you don't know what you're looking for it can be easy to miss the front entrance.

- Ray (9/5): -
- Brandy (10/5): - Parking was a little confusing but after we figured out where the lobby was and how to get to it we were fine.
- Anthony (7/5): Great location on a road tour across Southern Iceland - Location was perfect Property was older and very basic
- Anthony (10/5): -
- Gary (8/5): - They need better street signage I wandered around for 15 minutes trying to find it while passing the hidden entry multiple times.
- Marilyn (6/5): - The staff was very nice. The location is good. The bed is not memory foam as Expedia claims. The chaise lounge is uncomfortable.
- Stephen (10/5): - Great hotel with a unique feature - balcony with a private sauna.
- Sweeney (10/5): -
- Yasemin (8/5): Excellent location and friendly staff - Excellent location Poor lighting throughout facility
No wash cloths or tissues
- Javier (4/5): - The hotel is located on a street where taxis are not allowed, so be prepared to walk with your luggage to get there. The lobby is very small, with no place to sit. There is always a strong smell of food—like from a kitchen—in the hallways and elevator areas. The rooms are small and dirty, with a stained and dirty sofa. I did not feel comfortable at all in this hotel.
- Joana (7/5): Functional hotel at the center, very friendly staff - Central, clean, functional hotel. Rooms was spacious and comfortable for a short stay. Quite expensive and does not really feel as 4 star; but all in all alignee with prices in Iceland.
- santiagogaleros (10/5): GREAT OPTION IN REYKJAVIK - The Ion City Hotel in Reykjavik is a beautiful, modern hotel with spacious, well-designed rooms. The service is quite good, and the location couldn't be better.
Located in downtown Reykjavik on Laugavegur Street, you can easily walk to Hallgrímskirkja Church, the Sun Voyager, or the Harpa Center.
I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
- David (7/5): Good -
- novymacb (10/5): Home Away From Home with the Best Staff - My husband and I had the most phenomenal stay at the Ion City Hotel! The location is convenient to amazing restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and nightlife. Although there is no parking onsite, there are several options within a block that are convenient and easy to use, even while carrying luggage. The accommodations were perfect and we had no complaints whatsoever about our room. You can see from the pictures how great this hotel looks, and I can confirm that the pictures reflect the truth (for the Jr Suite at least), but the main reason I wanted to write this review was for the remarkable staff members.
The maid service was so kind and helpful, but also impeccable in their service. Everything was cleaned extensively, and I felt like we were moving into a new apartment, not just a hotel room. I also have to give a special shout out to Javier and Virginia, 2 of the front desk receptionists. They went above and beyond over our weeklong stay to make us comfortable and treated us more like long-time friends rather than just customers. Each time we entered the lobby, they always had smiles on their faces and we had so much fun just relaxing and talking with them. My husband and I have travelled extensively, and I can honestly say that we have never before had such an amazing experience based on the remarkable staff alone. Thank you for all that you do and helping us have the best vacation yet! Until next time, cheers!
- Tiancheng (8/5): - Just had a 3-night stay at ION City. Staffs were all friendly and amazing. Location is in the core downtown tourism area of reykjavic so that could be pro or cons depending on what you like. It's a little bit loud outside especially if the room is towards the street, but window is reasonably sound-proof. One issue was that when I first arrived there were a few blood drops in the bath towels, but after I raised that issue the room service was all good for the rest of the stay. Overall 4/5.
- Joanna (9/5): Superb -
- Dyrason (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pétursdóttir (10/5): Staff are soooo nice - Small and cozy. Everything clean I loved it
- Marlene (10/5): MarleneNY - Comfortable clean and friendly
- Tiffanytravelholic (8/5): Amazing Location - This a small boutique hotel, comfortable rooms, wonderful front desk service. They helped me arrange transportation to and from the airport. A delight to talk to each day. The rooms are cozy but all you need for a stay in Iceland. We dined at the Lebanese restaurant next door and it was awesome. Location is unbeatable and it was fantastic to be able to walk everywhere. Wish they had a wake up call for the northern lights.
- Lykarockz (8/5): Very good - I love the fact that it's near all the places we needed to go to as well as bars & cafés. I also love the bathroom set-up; how the toilet is separated from the shower. Moreover, the size of the shower is amazing!!!! I am in love with the shower design, how it has 2 options of shower heads, there's a spot for our personal toiletries. This hotel shower / bathroom is my favorite setup out of all the hotels I've visited my whole life. I also love the sofa setup by the window and how we can easily open the window when it got too hot. I didn't like the fact that the room is a bit small and too hot. There's no control for the room temperature. The sofa by the window was dirty. I also didn't like how the hotel didn't have at least 1 US outlet.
- Katrín (10/5): Exceptional -
- nicolelU5881AQ (10/5): Beautiful hotel -- Virginia was incredibly helpful & kind! - I ended up in this hotel because I had an accident hiking and broke my ankle in multiple places. I came directly from the hospital here and was in bad shape. Everyone was nice but Virginia went above and beyond every single time I encountered her. She was warm, compassionate, highly competent, and very helpful. I truly appreciate Virginia's care and compassion that she showed me while I stayed in this hotel. (one thing to note: this hotel is on a pedestrian street so not an ideal choice if you have mobility issues as most cabs will not bring you to the door).
- Fallon (10/5): Everyone was super nice. I want to personally thank, Virginia, for making our stay so welcoming. - The location and the staff were amazing. Very centrally located and short walk to everything. nA
- Sze (7/5): Good -
- ChiTravl78 (10/5): Great Boutique Hotel - The hotel is in an amazing location beautifully designed and offers just exceptional experience.
Virginia at the reception stops the show for us and really was the highlight of our stay. She was fun helpful and easy to chat with.
Parking is a little tricky but with some help from Virginia we found a spot about 2 blocks away.
- Shaun2007 (2/5): Avoid. It is a hostel, not hotel - This is a hostel, not a 4 star hotel. The rooms are small and clean. The staff are unhelpful. The gym is 3 machines in a small room. You can’t even get a coffee at the property.
Location is good (but noisy) but it really is just a room. Don’t expect a hotel. I can’t stress how underwhelming this property is. I’m a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum member and this is the single worst Marriott property I’ve stayed in.
- Ana (10/5): Awesome!! - The location, fhe room & shower was amazing! The hallways needed to updated.
- Julie (9/5): Superb -
- Jay (10/5): Amazing - Location was amazing
Friendly staff
Clean rooms
- Brian (10/5): Front Desk Service - The front desk woman was excellent. She gave us so many great recommendations, and she was very accommodating to anything we needed.
- X7177BQericr (10/5): Hidden Gem in the Middle of the City - Loved this chic boutique hotel located on the main thoroughfare of Reykjavik. Walkable (15m) from the BSI Bus Terminal if your plane lands in the early morning hours. I was lucky enough that my room was available at 7am so I could leave my stuff. Very well appointed rooms and phenomenal water pressure in the showers (I would return for that alone!). Very comfortable beds too which is a big bonus if you've been traveling the day before. Incredibly helpful and kind front desk staff. Would recommend this hotel to anyone interested. Pro tip: If you're a Marriott Bonvoy member and want Bonvoy points, you have to make the reservation through the Marriott app and not through other websites (i.e. American Express Travel!)
- Tessa (8/5): Very good -
- Stuart (10/5): Excellent - Great central location
Lovely room
Friendly staff Nothing
- RichieN114 (10/5): Great Location, Great Service, Great Hotel - This was our first trip to Iceland and we decided to spend a few nights at Ion City due to its location to the main tourist strip. We spent 3 nights in this location and can't say enough good things about the hotel. We arrived slightly before the designated check-in time and our room was ready for us which was very good considering a long night/morning of flights. During our stay we tried each night to see the Northern Lights but each night the tour was cancelled due to weather. This was the point we realized how great the staff was. Virginia was great with empathy and a quick follow-up of different suggestions. She nailed it with her food suggestions! She was quick with checking the weather forecast for us each afternoon to give us a prognosis of her outlook for light viewing. I cannot say enough good things about her and how awesome she is!
The room itself was extremely comfy and clean. We upgraded to a room with a sauna and was able to enjoy some relaxation in the warmth, a must in my opinion after spending the day wandering the city in colder, rainier, windy weather. The bed was great, the lights... well, they took some getting used to how they function. The noise level was completely fine even though you're right on the main street and it was over a weekend visit. Don't get me wrong, you can hear music but it never seemed overly loud and disruptive.
We absolutely would return to spend more nights at Ion City Hotel. Great location, close to bus stops and close to everything you'd want to see! PS - Don't forget how great Virginia is!
- Kate (10/5): Exceptional - The reception team were wonderful
- Jake (10/5): Excellent stay! - The room design was modern and spacious and was kept spotlessly clean. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The location was perfect, right in the heart of Reykjavik.
- cubalovindave (6/5): Great location - This hotel has a great location and smaller rooms only 18 rooms…. They do not honour any Marriott benefits for platinum or above including late check! They do not have a restaurant or any services.
If you do book it make sure you have the address as it is difficult to find.
Virginia at check in was amazing she is definitely 👍🏽 five star ⭐️ in service and personality.
I would have booked the hotel higher if they recognized Marriott and not just used them as a reservation system
- liadhR (10/5): Favorite Place to Stay in Reykjavík! - We thoroughly enjoyed our most recent stay at Ion City Hotel! This was our 6th time staying here and they have never failed to impress us. The location can't be beat - it is mere steps away from all the restaurants, shops and bars the city has to offer. The rooms are clean, stylish and very cozy, boasting a stunning view of the mountains and bay. We even saw the Northern Lights from our balcony on this most recent stay. The beds are comfy and the shower has fantastic water pressure. Customer service is outstanding. Everyone is very warm, welcoming, friendly and happy to help. Special shout out to Virginia & Luciana who are amazing! We highly recommend Ion and look forward to our next stay!
- Maria (9/5): Superb -
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastic hotel! - The staff were really helpful and accommodating, especially Luciana. Thank you all so much!
- Büsra (4/5): Isn't worth the money. - The stuff was very friendly and helpful. The location is very central. The hotel is very disappointing for several reasons, especially when one consider the amount payed. We had to take a good look to the bed sheets because there were several long hairs we had to remove before going to bed. The bedding looked clean though. Overall the cleanness of the room was not good. There is a sofa with a fabric that keeps hair/dirt. And it looked not clean at all, since it had multiple stains. The walls had stains. Even if it's water stain, it didn't look nice. On the second day, after the room cleaning was done, we found a cut nail on the floor, which didn't belong neither of us. I assume, it came with the mop from another room? The quality of the furniture was not good. The coffee machine was dusty and there was no spoon for the coffee.
- Ronald (10/5): - The restaurants nearby were excellent. The hotel is on a pedestrian only street. Difficult to get to as it requires a 10 minute walk with suitcases bouncing on a cobblestone street.
- Anastasiia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gyana (8/5): - Beautiful and nice place. No parking, and VERY hard to find the place at night
- steveR285SR (2/5): Insomnia Central - Awful place. I dont care the room wasn’t cleaned and it had a youth hostel atmosphere. If you can’t sleep due to location and the noise of other guests partying, the hotel is not fit for purpose. We were offered a 30% discount on future bookings following our complaints. I wouldn’t stay if they paid me. If you like a sleep, avoid
- Tamara (10/5): - LOVED our stay here... the only thing we didn't like was the difficulty in finding a parking spot that wasn't too far away for toting our luggage. As it was, the closest we could get was a good 5-6 minutes walk dragging luggage behind us. Otherwise, it was a GREAT choice! Loved SUMAC - the attached restaurant. It was also wonderful being a couple does down from the SANDHOLT bakery.
- TXFlyer (8/5): Fine for a short stay - The Good: Location, modern, clean, well designed rooms.
Neutral: No restaurant in the hotel, but plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby.
The Bad: No temperature control in the room. It was very warm and never cooled off. You can open the window, which helps, but noise from the street is very loud. There is a bar nearby that blasts loud music until 11pm.
- Otávio (9/5): Great spot to stay without a car - Great location close to restaurants and bars. Comfortable room and great design. Friendly staff. No parking place - you will probably have to leave your car a few streets away as the hotel is on a street where you can’t drive or park.
- Michelle (8/5): - Good hotel in excellent location. Staff were nice and very helpful.
- Craig (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (10/5): - Location
Restaurant Sumac
- Layhong (7/5): Located at Main Street, clean and comfy bed. - New and clean. The lady receptionist when I checked in was really charming and made me feel welcome to the country. (In general, Icelanders in restaurants/shops/other hotel are professional with no smiles, that’s my experience. Very different from Asia where I came from, warm hospitality is priority to promote tourism.) A bit pricey and noisy at night (from the bar opposite)
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Impressive design
- Helen (10/5): - The helpfulness and friendliness of the staff contributed to making our 3 day stay enjoyable. They were kind and patient and came to our aid both day and night with information and attention.
- Jotum (8/5): Sleep in the heart of town - This hotel is right on a pedestrian only street conveniently in the middle of the old city. It is relatively small and besides sleeping rooms it has a main desk staffed with very friendly and helpful people. There is no restaurant, lounge, sitting room, pool, spa or other amenities. However it was all we needed for a couple day stay before getting on a cruise. It is associated with Marriott.
- erlendparisw (10/5): Warm an reliable: contrary to the Icelandic weather - All in all, very happy with our 5 nights stay at Ion:
The hotel is perfectly located in the city centre with everything within walking distance.
Our room was nice and clean, and surprisingly quiet, taken into the location of the hotel.
The staff was extremely friendly and service-minded: Luciana and Virginia, in particular, were very helpful during our stay.
Just be aware: If you prefer two separate beds rather than one king size, Ion is not for you (that is, if you’re not willing to upgrade to a suite). Also, don’t expect too much from the «gym»: It’s equipped with a threadmill, a bike erg, and a multifunctional strength machine. That’s it.
All in all: I will definitely consider Ion if we visit Iceland another time.
- Joel (10/5): - Situated right off of Laugavegur street (adjacent to the Sumac restaurant, the main entrance is tucked away to the side) this hotel was incredible. The staff was friendly, allowed us a late checkout without charge, and held our bags after checkout so we could explore Reykjavík a little more! We had just completed the Laugavegur Trail, so the junior suite with the private sauna on the balcony got a lot of use to soothe our muscles after 55 kilometers of hiking and sleeping in tents! The whiskey bar next door is really cool, and if you’re vegetarian/vegan, you’ll be stoked like us to find Monkeys and Mama’s for some amazing food and cocktails! The room was spacious, beautiful, had a comfortable bed, was thoughtfully appointed, and provided a beautiful view of the city and water from the huge window and spacious balcony. We slept well with the blackout curtains (sun never went down) and it was super quiet. Well worth the price!
- Edward (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shirley (10/5): ION City hotel is a trendy but comfortable boutique hotel in the heart of Reykjavik! - Rooms were clean, pretty spacious, with comfortable beds! Bathroom was outstanding! The hotel is trendy and very cool while at the same time very functional! Staff was very friendly and helpful! no breakfast
- Tyler (10/5): Exceptional - Virginia at the front desk was awesome. Location of the hotel was perfect. None
- Lindsay (10/5): - Excellent and walkable location to everything. Room had a private sauna and excellent view. Staff was helpful. Bed was comfortable.
