- Eve (6/5): - La cour extérieur avec la piscine est très belle et bien entretenue. La chambre lit double au 2e étage était "correct" (rénové avec une finition peu soigné). La proximité de la plage et endroit bien sécurisé. Vagues idéales pour le surf. Très écho au 2e étage, je dors avec des bouchons et malgré cela, je me réveillais souvent à cause du bruits. Surtout que 2 chiens jappaient sans arrêt dans une chambre voisine. D'ailleurs, ses 2 chiens ont jappés toute la journée sur le bord de la piscine sans aucune intervention du personnel. Plusieurs autres chiens étaient présents sans incommoder personne. De faire payer 2$ us pour traverser vers tamarindo via la plage est tant qu'à moi du vol.

- Deepika (8/5): Manglar was peaceful but our stay left some things desired. - Quiet, peaceful, grounds were well-maintained Our room was tucked away in the back (# 5) and we didn’t have WiFi for part of our stay. Not a terrible thing but wish it wasn’t the case. We also asked twice to have our room cleaned—even took a road trip for the day, only to come back to unfinished room. That was slightly disappointing. Also, the noise from the unit upstairs was too much every morning! We could hear every thud and stomp—it sounded like furniture being thrown around. No need for an alarm clock! We ran into a guest who stays every year and he said he and his wife specifically request NOT to stay in Room # 5. We will keep that in mind if we return.
- Heike (8/5): - Die Lage war toll und das Zimmer mit Terrasse im Hotel Canterana ebenfalls. Unser zweites Zimmer im Hotel El Manglar war deutlich einfacher und ohne Balkon oder Terrasse. Sauber waren beide Zimmer. Die Pools waren eher klein, aber schön angelegt. Am Strand Playa Grande gab es kaum Schatten durch Bäume oder Palmen, so dass man sich Sonnenschutz und Liegen entweder teuer mieten (30 USD für 3 Stunden) oder die kostenlosen Liegen am Pool nutzen musste.

- Katharina (9/5): - Superfreundliches Personal, tolle Lage mit ein paar Schritten zum Strand, sehr schöne geräumige Villa mit Küchenausstattung (die aber auch von ziemlich vielen Ameisen bevölkert war, aber das passiert in solchen Ländern eben mal). Toll fanden wir auch das System ohne Schlüssel, sondern mit Code, so kann man nichts verlieren :) Uns hat es hier sehr gut gefallen. Liegt in einer "gesicherten" Comunity und etwas abseits, es gibt ein paar Lokale und einen kleinen winzigen Supermarkt. Ein Auto ist schon empfehlenswert, Parken direkt vor dem Hotel möglich
- Alexander (6/5): Schöne Anlage mit Gemeinschaftsküche, aber dunkles kleines Zimmer. - Schöne Anlage, nah am Meer, Kühlschrank im Zimmer. Die Gemeinschaftsküche fanden wir super und haben sie auch genutzt. Die Sport Area war ebenfalls super und stand zur freien Verfügung. An unserem Anreisetag hat das WLAN nur an der Rezeption funktioniert, das wurde dann allerdings am 2. Tag repariert und hat seitdem überall gut funktioniert. Wir hatten ein Zimmer mit einem nur sehr kleinen Fenster, es war somit ziemlich dunkel und insgesamt eher ungemütlich. Wir hatten allerdings auch die günstigste Zimmerkategorie, vermutlich sind die Zimmer unten besser, aber auch teurer. Aus dem Badezimmer kam abends ein übler Gestank, vermutlich aus der Dusche. Insgesamt war das Bad eher beengt. Während unseres Aufenthalts fand ein Surf Retreat im Hotel statt, dadurch war man nachmittags am Pool quasi Teil der Nachbesprechungen. An Entspannung war damit nicht zu denken. Man sollte wissen, dass in dem kleinen Ort „Palm Beach Estates“ nicht viel ist und somit auch an Restaurants keine große Auswahl besteht. Das Hoteleigene Bistro haben wir nicht ausprobiert. Insgesamt haben wir uns eher unwohl gefühlt und würden das Hotel nicht weiterempfehlen.

- georg (10/5): Reizvoller Aufenthalt in Tamarindo - toller Sandstrand im Pazifik 5 min entfernt, sehr schöne gut ausgestattete Villa für drei Personen mit großer Terrasse, ruhig abseits vom Trubel gelegen, sehr toller Pool zum Erfrischen, Hotel hat sowohl die Mangroventour als auch eine Schildkrötentour am Abend organisiert, direkt nebenan im Cafe Azul kann man sehr lecker essen,

Starker Geruch aus dem Abfluss, der sich leider im gesamten Zimmer verteilt. Fenster klein und nicht zu öffnen. Keine Liegen am Strand, nur Klappstühle gegen hohe Gebühr. Trotz Nationalpark Baustelle genau gegenüber - sehr schade.

Dylan was fantastic and really helped us out when we needed to courier a package to the hotel. When we mentioned the lack of hot water, staff came right away to fix the issue. I wish we had a small coffee maker in our room.

- Hayden (9/5): A beautiful place for a quiet retreat - We wound up staying in a terrace room which included bedroom, bathroom, sitting area, kitchenette and patio. It was spacious and comfortable. The bed was comfortable and large and the large shower had plenty of hot water. The kitchenette included a two-burner propane stove, small fridge, toaster oven, microwave and coffee maker so we were able to make all our breakfasts, a couple of lunches and one supper. Cleaning was every two days and very efficient and thorough. There was a nice pool with clean clear water (more a place to cool off than swim) and a pleasant garden. Staff were polite and helpful. There were three restaurants in the area (though on three days mid-week only two were open at a time. A local store offered basics at a price; for more variety you needed to go to Tamarindo -- a long drive or a short walk/water taxi away. Lots of wildlife in the area and a great beach. The area is a bit out of the way, either a benefit (for me) or a problem (for others). The Wifi was very good when it worked but would occasionally cut out for 15 or 20 minutes. The sound of the leaf blower could be very loud in the morning. There was a problem with making the payment which took a while to resolve but it was fixed by the helpful staff.

- Lilly (6/5): - Das Personal ist sehr nett und die Anlage ist schön gemacht. Das zugehörige Bistro und Café sind eine Abzocke! Lieber in das Café weiter vorne Richtung Strand gehen. Das Hotel ist sehr weit Abgelegen von Tamarindo und es gibt vor Ort wenig Essensmöglichkeiten. Die Küche ist nicht so gut ausgestattet und die Sachen waren teilweise noch dreckig. Das mit dem privaten Strand Zugang klingt exklusiver als es ist 5 Meter weiter gibt es einen öffentlichen Strandzugang.

- Elise (10/5): Can't wait to come back to this little peaceful hotel! - We really wanted to stay at this property because it looked so lovely online and it did look lovely in real life as well! We were unable to book for the three consecutive nights that we were staying in the area, so we booked one night in Cantarana and 2 nights in the Hotel Manglar. Andrea and Dylan were there to check us in and get us situated both times as we checked in. This review is for Cantarana as we stayed their first. We had booked the king room last minute and it was lovely space. You have access to both spaces no matter what hotel you stay at. The room had a hammock and the pool was very relaxing. The beach was steps away and we spent the whole day there. I am not sure why the beach was so empty, but we didn't mind! It was great for us. The restaurant had a nice happy hour and the food was pretty tasty when we ate there. The little coffee shop was act perfect for what we needed. Andrea pointed out all the other restaurants nearby since they all take their turn with days off. She also pointed us to the crafts markets in town as well. Our stay at Cantarana was perfect. We were only disappointed with ourselves that we had to switch to a different room for the next two nights because we are lazy and didn't want to move!
- Elise (10/5): I would come back to this place anytime! - This was part two of our stay with the hotel. We stayed one night at the Hotel Cantarana and then moved over to the Hotel Manglar. We dropped our bags off with Andrea in the morning and when we came back from the beach she had had them brought up to our new room! This hotel has more rooms that the other and this room was a little smaller with the queen bed, but we enjoyed it just as much! The pool area was super relaxing and we enjoyed being even closer to the beach at this hotel! I think the only thing that was 100% was the fact that there were no hooks for towels in that whole room. It is a bit challenging especially for a beach hotel when you have 2 sets of towels. It looks like a hook might have fallen from the wall and not been replaced, but we just used the outside railing for our towels.

- Lorenza (5/5): - Schöne Lage direkt am Playa Grande Das Zimmer war sehr dunkel und wenig gemütlich. Auch die Dusche funktionierte während des Aufenthalts nicht richtig, was den Komfort weiter eingeschränkt hat. Am ersten Tag erhielt ich an der Rezeption ein Strandhandtuch. Allerdings wurde ich nicht darüber informiert, dass dieses am letzten Tag wieder persönlich zurückgegeben werden muss. Ich habe es – wie in vielen Hotels üblich – nach Gebrauch am Pool abgelegt, damit es vom Personal eingesammelt wird. Bei der Abreise wurde mir dann überraschend eine Gebühr von 30 Dollar berechnet. Das fand ich äußerst unangemessen und ärgerlich. Insgesamt leider kein zufriedenstellender Service.

Matresses very comfortable. Nice bathroom. Expensive! Would like small microwave and coffee maker in room. We had problems with infestation of ants and red winged bugs in our room. Andrea immediately responded and sprayed the outside of sliding doors with poison. However, ants were a problem through out our stay.

La habitación en el tercer piso era demasiado pequeña e incomoda para 2 adultos y 1 niño. El baño tenia un olor terrible. Una cama estaba demasiado dura, como vieja. Nos "arreglaron" esto con un soft top pero no sirvió de mucho. Nos cambiaron de habitación y estuvo mejor. Tuvimos problemas para usar la TV y el WiFi no funcionó bien. Había demasiadas construcciones al rededor asi que había mucho ruido molesto

The location is also excellent with private beach access to playa grande, you can also access tamarindo by walking and taking the ferry across the estuary outflow. Our room on the third floor smelt like the inside of a porta-potty, the management explained there was a problem with a treatment plant beside us. They told us it was fixed after the first night, but the smell was still there even after leaving the taps running to flush it out.

Es gab keinen Fön und auch keine Steckdose im Bad. Außerdem keinen Wasserkocher oder Kaffeemaschine in den einfachen Zimmern. Wir sind dann am 2. Tag in ein Zimmer mit Küche umgezogen. Es war besser ausgestattet ( Möglichkeit um Kaffee zu kochen und Steckdosen im Bad). Leider gab es auch hier keinen Fön.

Kostenloses Zimmerupgrade:) Das WLAN funktioniert nicht auf unserem Zimmer, nur am Pool. Bettwäsche hatte Flecken. Im Bad gab es nur einen offenen Mülleimer, was etwas unhygienisch ist (Klopapier darf nicht ins Klo!).

- Jürgen (9/5): Schöne Unterkunft in Strandnäh - Schöne Unterkunft mit nettem Personal und fussläufigen tollen Strand an dem man super Spaziergänge unternehmen kann! Schöner Pool. Unsere große Villa war sehr schön. Da das Restaurant schon zu hatte sind wir ins nette Cafe Mar Azul neben an, absolut empfehlenswert!

Atención eficiente con personal muy amable - Camas muy cómodas, jardín lleno de árboles, zona de estar privada externa en la villa perfecta para tomar el desayuno. Tiene todo lo necesario para cocinar o preparar algo rápido. Tranquilidad total por temporada baja Playa a una corta caminata por hermoso sendero El baño no tienen ventana y el extractor de aire del baño no funcionó, se colaban olores de aguas grises, probablemente por falta de sifón colocado correctamente en lavatorio... El dormitorio principal arriba no tiene baño.

- Sandra (3/5): Experiencia regular, por muchos aspectos que mejorar - Atención del personal El hotel no está realmente frente a la playa como se indica en la aplicación; hay que caminar unos metros para llegar. La habitación es bastante pequeña y la cama resultó incómoda para dos personas, ya que apenas cabíamos. Además, había bastantes insectos, especialmente hormigas grandes. El ambiente tenía un olor desagradable. La cocina compartida, ubicada cerca de la piscina, necesita mantenimiento: el horno no funcionaba, no había microondas, un mueble de cocina que estaba bien picado y por la noche salían cucarachas que se pasaban entre los trastes. La pequeña refrigeradora de la habitación estaba en mal estado, oxidada y debería ser reemplazada, en la habitación no habia ninguna botellita de agua como normalmente hay en otros hoteles y la cafetera se miraba sucia. El acceso también es complicado. La calle está en muy mal estado; viajé en un carro bajo y casi se me queda el bumper en las cunetas. Además, el mapa indica una ruta incorrecta y no se nos advirtió con anticipación. Durante la temporada baja es difícil encontrar restaurantes abiertos cerca. Por el mal estado de la calle, se tarda entre 25 y 30 minutos en llegar a un lugar donde se pueda comer.

- ALISON (6/5): Nice find, met our needs - We really enjoyed the private beach access and the quiet, beautiful setting within a national park. The bed was very comfortable, the pool was clean, and the whole area felt incredibly safe, even at night. The staff were wonderful and made us feel welcome. The two biggest drawbacks were the constant presence of workers on the property (even on Sunday, sometimes with radios playing), and the location being harder to access than expected due to a 10-minute unpaved road full of potholes each way. Also, the area has very limited options nearby in low season, aside from a cafe just outside Palm Beach Estates, the nearest supermarket is about a 15-minute drive away. Other than that, the place itself was nice, though a few small details could be improved, such as adding a warning sign for the extremely hot water in the villa kitchen faucet.

- Kelly (10/5): - Hotel El Manglar is maybe my most favorite hotel EVER! The grounds are beautiful!! The staff is so kind and helpful. Dylan and Georgia at the front desk were just incredible! The beach is stunning and the private path to the beach is magical! Our villa was comfortable and very clean. It had a king size bed, large shower, nice little kitchen and sitting area. Both the sitting area and kitchen had French doors that opened to the porch. We enjoyed our Costa Rican coffee and banana bread each morning on the porch. We had everything we needed! We loved the hammock on our private porch too! We surfed every day and I conveniently rented my surfboard from the hotel. We also enjoyed swimming in the lovely pool after a surf session. The owners of this hotel have created a paradise environment in Playa Grande. Dylan even arranged a tour of the estuary where we saw all kinds of wildlife including iguanas, crocodiles, the mangrove hawk and a family of Howler Monkeys. The food at the hotel's restaurant (a short walk from the hotel grounds) was delicious and fresh with great service (Luis). There is also another restaurant next door that serves great food and the homemade banana bread. I can't wait to go back!!! Hotel El Manglar is dreamy!!!
