The sketchy “housekeeping” is another issue. Bathrooms weren’t cleaned on a daily basis and I didn’t notice any staff vacuuming or sanitizing common areas. YUCK.

Not worth the risk in safety - This hostel has self check in system where your information and key is left on a counter unattended for anyone to open see take. The front door is unlocked. I came in at 10:30 at night without a key. The day of check in I sent an email to the staff at 6:30 pm because there was someone in my bed. I tried to call but the phone rang not even a voicemail. I also texted. No response. So when I came back at 10:30 that night I asked the person to move which was a problem. Had the staff responded in a timely manner there would not have been a situation. To their credit they did move me to a large room after blaming me for the situation. Believe me I was dealing with a Goldilocks bully in my bed. I wish the staff would have been more responsive with my communication and handled it before I got there. N!n3+y d011@rs for a dorm room expected much better. The rooms are dated and dirty and poorly kept. The large room had stains on the carpet. Carpet had not been vacuumed. Freshly cleaned room still had spilled wine on the table. There are a large bathroom and a small bathroom for each gender. The large bathroom was clean the small one was gross. At 1:00 a.m. random people were on the couch. Unlikely they had a room. Was afraid for my safety. The beds were clean and comfortable. I just wish there was at least a responsive staff, a little bit more attention to detail, and security measures to protect our privacy and safety.

- Judith (10/5): Clean, functional, well managed hostel - This is an exceptional hostel -- clean, well organized and managed, and very comfortable. It is a hostel, not a hotel, so rooms do not have private baths and you're likely to meet other guests. I stayed in a dormitory room for one night and had everything I could want. Totally recommended; I would stay again.

- Autumn (2/5): - Two hours before my group was meant to check in we get a call saying “oops! We goofed and now we have no room for you tonight. Sorry!” At this point we were already on the island. All the ferries were at capacity for the rest of the day and all the hotels were full or several hundred dollars. So we had to sleep in our car, effectively trapped on the island for the night with nowhere to stay. I get it that scheduling conflicts happen, but we were owed at least 24 hours notice of this issue so that we could have prepared and not have been forced into this situation.

- Thomas (6/5): - The room was for at least 6 people and much larger than necessary for the two of us. The most of the beds were mainly for one person. The double bed we slept in had a ladder going to an upper bed that I kept banging my foot on! The cost, $177/night(two nights) would have been very fair for a group of four people, but it was at least $77 more than any hotel that we stayed in during our trip.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Basic Functional Hostel. - Basic functional well kept hostel. Located a minute walk into center of town. Only negative is the dirty public hallway carpet leading into each room.

- Samantha (2/5): - The staff was incredibly unfriendly and also residents of the hostel. The bathrooms did not have toilet paper for two days. The bathrooms kitchen and common area were extremely dirty. This hostel doubles as a homeless shelter. Our taxi driver informed us that the state pays for homeless to live there.

- Verified traveler (6/5): - OK place to stay. Good price for the location. Our room was fine, and the bathrooms were good. The minuses: the carpet looked as if it had never been cleaned; the kitchen floor was always sticky; what was supposed to be a full-service kitchen had no forks or spoons, only 2 bowls, and minimal cookware; and there was never anyone at the front desk.

The room was clean and the beds were surprisingly comfortable. Sparse but again, nothing unexpected. Great for a budget option when on the islands. The location was awesome.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Convenient location - Quite quiet, convenient location. Living room and dining area is kind of old, but tidy and organized. Wish there were a few more dining tables cos I can imagine if the hostel is fully occupied the tables won't be sufficient. Books and pool table to keep one occupied in the living room. Front desk staff is usually away so one may have security concerns, but there is always a staff somewhere else around the premise upstairs or so. We stayed in a private room without windows (there is a window but it looks out to an internal corridor) so it can get a little stuffy and there is no individual control of thermal comfort, but overall we had a good rest.

- J (8/5): - I liked the price of this place most of all. It's a good location, within walking distance of almost all the places in Friday Harbor. It is a Hostel so you are sharing a bath room and hearing people walk around through the night. There was nobody at the desk when we tried to check in, but someone did show up a few minutes later. Overall I was pleased for the price of the stay.

Minus the lady staying in the room next to us taking up the nearest bathroom for over an hour & having to mind the noise curfew (which we can understand is overall for everyone’s benefit) we enjoyed our stay and would stay again. Surprisingly there was shampoo and conditioner and a blow dryer set up in the very clean bathroom for all to feel welcome to use. And it was fun to watch everyone building community in the common areas yet we weren’t around much as we came to the island to kayak and hike and search for whales and eat seafood!

- Verified traveler (8/5): Surprisingly good - This hostel is a few blocks from the ferry terminal. It has typical hostel things. It also has accommodations for people who are not yet ready for full hostel, such as a few private rooms, down the hall single occupancy toilet sink shower room (1 for men and 1 for women). The place is clean and quiet. Large common area kitchen, pantry, living room. The room was a little warm when we arrived, there was a large rather quiet electric fan which helped cool the room to sleep. I would stay again when on Friday Harbor.

- VICTORIA (8/5): Good place to crash, as expected - The hostel was perfect for what we needed, a place to stay before a camping trip. Check-in was easy, checkout was easy. It wasn’t the cleanest or most up to date place, but it seemed fine for a hostel. It was nice that they had some single bathrooms as well as dorm bathrooms, we lucked out and no one was up as early as us so we had the bathroom to ourselves. I’d stay there again for one night.

- Brett (8/5): Great for a Hostel - Given that there are few accommodations on San Juan island, this is a good option. BUT it's still a hostle. As far as hostles go, I found it to be quite nice. It is a former office building and has been remodeled to include a common area with a full kitchen, couches and pool table, one large bathroom (one men's, one womens) with 2 shower stalls and several toilet stalls. On the 3rd floor there is a mens and womens single bathroom with a toilet, small sink and shower. We were out boating all day so only spent time from 10 pm to 8 am. During those hours it was totally quiet and I rarely saw another person.
- sally (8/5): Stay at San Juan hostel - Due to a mix up our first night was in a shared coed room with 2 men (I was traveling with my niece). We booked a different room for the next night, so that was fine. Our one night male roommates were very respectful & quiet. The kitchen area was a bit over used, but guests mostly seemed to obey the rules & clean up after themselves. Quiet time started at 10pm & that time was honored. There is a manager on site 24/7. Bathrooms has smoke toilet paper & shampoo/cond/soap. Two shared bathrooms & 1 private. We did not have an issue with wait times for bathroom. Clean towels available daily.

The noise was mostly music being played loudly during the day and evening hours. The staff was outstanding - very friendly and accommodating.
